Jimbo's joined by Julien Laurens, Pol Ballús and Seb Stafford-Bloor for a deep-dive into domestic and European matters across the continent. Last week's Champions League first legs left some results more conclusive than others… we're looking at you, PSV 1-7 Arsenal! But there's still plenty of intrigue with the ties between Liverpool and PSG, Real and Atleti and Barca and Benfica finely poised. In La Liga, Real warmed up for their trip across the capital with a 2-1 win over Rayo Vallecano, while Atleti were on the wrong end of that scoreline in a dramatic late defeat at Girona. Meanwhile Barcelona's game with Osasuna was postponed just 20 minutes before kick-off following the sudden death of first team doctor Carles Miñarro Garcia. In Ligue 1, PSG's B-team made light work of Rennes to move 16 points clear at the top of the table - while Paulo Fonseca began his nine month (!) touchline ban as he watched his side beat Nice 2-0 from the stands to put themselves right in the mix for European football next season. Max Callegari - host of Pressing on Canale 5 - joins us to run the rule over all the Serie A action, which included humiliation for Juve, a first win in six for Napoli and spookily similar comebacks for Milan and Inter. And in the Bundesliga, there was history as for the first time in nearly 20 years Bayern, Leverkusen and Dortmund all lost on the same matchday. Produced by Lucy Oliva. RUNNING ORDER: • PART 1: Moments of the weekend and Champions League teases (00.40) • PART 2: La Liga review - Mixed fortunes for Madrid sides as tragedy hits Barca (09.40) • PART 3: Ligue 1 review - PSG flying high as Fonseca begins his touchline ban (19.35) • PART 4: Serie A review - Juve out of the title race as Milan sides stage 3-2 comebacks (33.30) • PART 5: Bundesliga review - big boys all beaten as Bayer, Bayern and Dortmund lose (45.30) Learn more about your ad choices.

Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse. Atlanta United will try to right the ship after a disappointing loss in Charlotte on Saturday. Maybe most disappointing because they didn't allow Charlotte to create very much, created quite a bit themselves, but didn't get anything to show for it. Red Bulls await on Saturday night at the Benz.Plenty to chew on after week 2 in MLS. Columbus has proven me, and many others, wrong as they won their second match of the season. San Jose and Vancouver have been two of the big surprises with two straight wins. Tai Baribo has 5 goals in 2 games for Philly, leading the Union to a perfect start. LAFC have completed their transformation into a defensive brickhouse with back-to-back 1-0 wins.Miami went to Houston without Lionel Messi and demolished the Dynamo 4-1. The story after was a red card after the final whistle to Ian Fray from referee Joe Dickerson. Miami manager Javier Mascherano was very frustrated afterwards, and I agree with him. The match was not managed well down the stretch, leading to many issues, and Fray did nothing to deserve a red card. The referee who did not give a straight red to Milwall goalkeeper Liam Roberts might need to be disciplined, it was one of the worst challenges you'll ever see. Jean-Phillippe Mateta needed 25 stitches to close the wound it created.Paulo Fonseca, who just started at Lyon, might be suspended for a while after making contact with a referee in Lyon's 2-1 win over Brest. He was, rightfully as it was proven later as it was overturned by the VAR, arguing a late penalty decision that would have given Brest an opportunity to level the match. However, making contact with the referee, even if it is on the minor side like this one, will result in a suspension. The takeover in Scotland of Rangers by a group including the San Francisco 49ers is in the closing stages. It will be very interesting to see their plans for making over the club.Tigres fired manager Veljko Paunovic with the team in 3rd place in Liga MX and gave the job to now-retired Guido Pizarro, who played in their win over Necaxa on Saturday. Yeah, it's confusing. Pizarro will be on the touchline for their next match, tomorrow night in Cincinnati in ConcaChampions.IFAB announced that starting with this summer's Club World Cup, goalkeepers who hold the ball for more than eight seconds will concede a corner kick. This is a changed from the rarely enforced (sorry Canada in 2012) six-second rule that saw an indirect kick given inside the 18 yard box.
Hello Rank Squad! It's time for Champions League Takeaway, your midnight feast of Champions League content - after one of the wildest weeks we have seen in the competition in recent times. We start for a change, with Tuesday's games, opening with Sporting's huge 4-1 win over Manchester City - a parting gift from Ruben Amorim to the Jose Alvalade as City were cut open in transition again. Was it as bad as it looked? Maybe not, but the blue half of Manchester have some valid concerns, whilst the red half are ready to welcome their new manager with open arms. Then it's on to Anfield, where Liverpool maintained their perfect record in the competition with a 4-0 win over Xabi Alonso and Bayer Leverkusen thanks to a Luis Diaz hat trick, and some more excellent half-time tweaks from Arne Slot, who got it right yet again. Real Madrid were stunned at home by Milan, where Paulo Fonseca's use of Rafael Leão was next to perfect, and the questions about how Kylian Mbappé has unbalanced this team remain burning bright. Can Carlo Ancelotti turn this around or are the obvious holes in the defensive line too big to fill with superstars alone? We round up the rest too: Celtic re-announced themselves in the competition with a big win at home to Leipzig, BVB dug out another win in their mini-resurgence, Malik Tillman starred as PSV beat Girona 4-0, Lille and Juventus shared the spoils in France, Monaco stayed hot with a late win in Bologna, and Dinamo Zagreb smashed four past competition whipping boys Slovan Bratislava. Then in Part Two, we're onto Wednesday's action, which begins with Inter's narrow win over Arsenal that cemented them as genuine favourites and continued to pile the questions on Mikel Arteta about how to get the best out of this (admittedly depleted) Gunners side. Also up for discussion is PSG's devastating late loss to Atletico Madrid and how the Parisiens just seem to lack confidence the moment anything goes against them, despite a bright start here; and Aston Villa's fatigued 1-0 loss to Club Brugge that will be headlined by a weird penalty call, but in reality was a pretty reasonable result - Villa were outplayed in Belgium. We finish with a roundup of the rest of the Tuesday games - Barcelona hitting five in Belgrade against Crvena Zvezda as their front three continues to shine; Bayern's hard-fought but well-deserved win over Benfica; another clean sheet for Atalanta as they won 2-0 in Stuttgart; a first win for RB Salzburg as they shocked Feyenoord at De Kuip; Brest's third win from four as the Pirates set sail for Prague and plundered more points against Sparta; and Shakhtar Donetsk's Sudakov-inspired victory over Young Boys. It's Ranks! And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?
From Gian Piero Gasperini tactical masterclass and Ademola Lookman show for Atalanta, Antonio Conte outclassed tactically as Napoli come crashing down to earth, Inter Milan win again without impressing just like captain and match winner Lautaro Martinez, to Khephren Thuram and Nicolo Savona shine for Juventus in comfortable win over Udinese, AC Milan lucky in win over Monza, Rafael Leao vs Paulo Fonseca war heats up, Roma in complete crisis and preview of all midweek Champions League matches involving the Italian teams including Inter vs Arsenal and Real Madrid vs Milan, as well as Baggio, Premface and Serie Ass of the week, plus much, much more when Nima and Carlo break down all the main talking points from Match Day 11 of the 2024/2025 Serie A season.Every Monday episode of The Italian Football Podcast is free for all.To NEVER miss an episode of The Italian Football Podcast (and support the show), go to Patreon.com/TIFP or Spotify to become a Patron for only $2.99 USD per month (excluding VAT).Follow us: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube

Hello Rank Squad! It's tough out there as a manager. You can be winning trophies and be the designated Chosen One one minute, and then on the verge of losing your job the next. It's brutal, but it's the way football works, so we wanted to revisit an old staple and take a look at some of the managers under the cosh this season, and what the future holds for them.We start with the big discussion point in the Premier League - the future of Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, but more under the microscope of who United could legitimately bring in right now as an instant improvement, before getting into things properly. Dean picks three in the Premier League - Julen Lopetegui at West Ham United, Gary O'Neil at Wolves and Russell Martin at Southampton - as we assess their situations and give our verdicts. Then we head Continental, as Jack takes a look at who's under it in Europe - visiting Paulo Fonseca at AC Milan, Gerardo Seoane at Borussia Mönchengladbach, Ivan Juric (!) at AS Roma, and Ruben Baraja at Valencia CF, to see what their situations look like in this international break. It's Ranks! And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?
