Follow Big Sky Astrology on IG, Twitter, and FB @BigSkyAstrology Read a full transcript of this episode. Episode links: 00:30 – Lady April and her pal Jen wish you all a Happy Beltane season! . 03:15 – **MOONWATCH ** This week’s dramatic Full Moon is at 7°06’ Scorpio (April 26/27) on the Sabian symbol “The Moon shining across a lake.” The Sun is in Taurus on “A sleigh without snow.” There is a gimungous T-square in this chart (Sun/Uranus/Venus/Mercury opposed Full Moon) which could be exciting, stressful, or both; all four will square Saturn. This Full Moon is connected to a New Moon from Oct 27, 2019; what story was happening for you then? This is the point in the cycle where more is revealed. (Of course, this is also connected to the New Moon in Aries from two weeks ago: Episode 76, Aries New Moon: An 8-Track Mind.) . 08:36 – The T-square from this Full Moon finds its release point in Leo. If you feel “off” or uncentered during this tense and unpredictable time, look for healthy ways to express yourself: paint, listen to music, write, have fun with friends, spend time with pets, or do something creative! Plus, look! Up in the sky! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? It’s Supermoon! . 12:31 – Pluto is unaspected and therefore prominent in the Full Moon chart, and turns retrograde at 26°48’ Capricorn (April 27) on the much-talked about symbol, “A mountain pilgrimage.” (Review Episode 76, Aries New Moon: An 8-Track Mind for more on that one!) How do you deal with downturns and reversals, after you’ve worked very hard to build something up? (We previously discussed Pluto retrograde on Episode 22, Taurus New Moon and Venus Gone Wild. And to review unaspected planets, listen to one of our most popular episodes, Episode 53, Our Taurus Full Moon Halloween Spooktacular!) . 16:16 – Mercury, at 22°21 Taurus, sextiles Neptune in Pisces (April 29/30). Venus, at 22°26 Taurus, then follows suit (May 2). The planets in the sign of the bull are on the symbol “A jewelry shop” while Neptune, in the sign of interconnectedness, is on “Spiritist phenomena.” These aspects speak to opportunities for our strongest talents and skills (Mercury) and our most valuable and attractive resources (Venus/Taurus) to be used in the service of others (Neptune). . 18:21 – The Sun conjuncts Uranus 10°40’ Taurus (April 30) on the Sabian symbol, “A woman sprinkling flowers.” This can be a good time for creative and unusual breakthroughs! Do take care though, dear listeners, as the symbol indicates use of water, and Uranus can be electric – wear your rubber gloves and avoid shocks, if at all possible! . 20:06 – Mercury trines Pluto (May 2) on the Sabian symbol for 27 Taurus, “An Indian woman selling beads.” Pluto sits on 27 Capricorn, “A mountain pilgrimage” (of course!!). Perhaps, if you’re doing your work with diligence and integrity, you will be connected to helpful and powerful people. . 23:52 – Do you love the BSA podcast? Please support the show (it’s free!) by giving us lots of stars, subscribing or following, and/or leaving a happy review – here’s how! This episode is made possible by donors CHRISTINE MARSDEN, HENRIETTA WINSTON, and JAMES BROPHY! Thank you, Christine, Henrietta, and James, for contributing to our Podathon! Play Episode Listen Later Apr 12, 2021 36:39

April and Jen plunge themselves into a full week, with creative activities getting a boost from the Sun, Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter – as long as Pluto decides our efforts are sincere. Venus enters Taurus, a reminder to stop and smell the roses (but keep an eye out for a few Saturn/Uranus thorns). This week’s lack of a major lunar phase to sing about makes room for a mini-lesson on the Crescent Moon! And finally, Jupiter rewards at least some of our Mars-in-Gemini projects. Plus: Are we counting the weeks until we can start talking about specific 80s songs? Why yes, yes we are! Three to go! Wondering how to find meaning in the patterns of your life? Book a reading with April! Sign up for April's mailing list for updates, a free monthly lunar workbook, AND an email tutorial on the Lunar Phases! To read April & Jen’s essays, or to join the podcast conversation and leave a comment, go to www.BigSkyAstroPod.com. Read more about this week’s astrology at the Big Sky Astrology website! Follow Big Sky Astrology on IG, Twitter, and FB @BigSkyAstrology Read a full transcript of this episode. Episode links: 00:30 – Want to learn some more astrology? Do check out April’s fantastic book The Essential Guide to Practical Astrology! (Psst! Oprah likes it, too!) And don’t forget to forage through our podcast archives – plenty of learning opportunities in each and every episode! . 03:15 – The Sun, at 24.14 Aries, sextiles Mars in Gemini (April 13). The Sun represents selfhood and heart, and Mars is how we get things done. In this case, the heart is made visible through our work. (Review Episode 16, Let's Talk about Sextiles for more on this aspect.) . 05:00 – Then the Sun sextiles Jupiter at 25.56 Aquarius (April 15). The Sun is on the Sabian symbol, “A man possessed of more gifts than he can hold.” Jupiter sits on, “A hydrometer.” Are you doing too much? Just because you can do everything doesn’t mean you have to! . 06:03 – The Sun continues on and squares Pluto at 26.46 Capricorn (April 16). While the Sun is about self, Pluto is about the communal experience and what serves the greater good. We might find ourselves pushing to believe in ourselves this week. (Hint: Often, the best way to regain confidence is to confront a difficult challenge.) Pluto is on the symbol, “A mountain pilgrimage” (which we discuss in last week’s Episode 76, Aries New Moon: An 8-Track Mind). . 08:39 – Remember, squares and oppositions (hard aspects) often force us to take action (whether we want to or not). We may or may not notice trines and sextiles (soft aspects), and we often have a choice about responding (or not). . 10:40 – Venus enters Taurus (April 14 - May 8)! Venus represents what we want, our values, and our relationships. In Taurus, we may feel more patient for what we want, and we may find ourselves enjoying the pleasures of the good life. . 12:27 – Head’s up! Venus will make a conjunction with Uranus and square to Saturn next week, so this Venus in Taurus may bring unexpected financial/relationship developments. (And let’s not forget that Saturn and Uranus are in a square all year! Here’s a great one to listen to: Episode 69, Saturn and Uranus: That Escalated Quickly!) And, if you have planets between 9°-12° of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, or Aquarius… you’re probably feeling the squeeze, podpals. . 16:28 – Mars, at 26.12 Gemini, trines Jupiter in Aquarius (April 16). While Mars has been in the sign of the twins, the drive to learn more and explore different options has been at the forefront. It’s possible that now we will see some rewards! Yay! . 19:13 – This week’s Moonwatch segment is brought to you by our newest non-imaginary sponsor: Victoria Pendragon! Check out her personal natal chart paintings! (Note: V's new site is all set up!) . 22:37 – **MOONWATCH ** This week we welcome the Crescent Moon at 11.28 Gemini (Apr. 15, 10:57 pm – Apr. 19, 11:59 pm PDT)! The Crescent Moon begins when the Moon makes a semisquare aspect (45°) to the Sun; in this case, the Sun is at 26.28 Aries. This is the moment in the lunar cycle when something often captures our interest. The Moon sits on the Sabian symbol, “A slave girl demands her rights of her mistress,” which speaks to standing up for yourself, or appreciating someone who does. (Check out Episode 74, Libra Full Moon: Go Fly a Kite! for more on that symbol, or learn more about the lunar phases in Episode 34, The 8 Lunar Phases: Have Them with a Salad!) Don’t forget to sign up for April's mailing list to get her free Moon tutorial! . 27:13 – Mercury is busy on the 17th!! The planet of communication is at 27° Aries, and first sextiles Jupiter in Aquarius (9:00 am PDT), then sextiles Mars in Gemini (12:09 pm PDT), and finally squares Pluto in Capricorn (2:49 pm PDT). The sextiles represent opportunities being presented to us, but we are likely to feel the square the most because we may be presented with a problem we are forced to untangle. . 29:56 – Cazimi! Mercury joins up with the Sun at 29.14 Aries (April 18) on the symbol, “A duck pond and its brood.” Time to get your ducks in a row! (And here are some NASA skywatching tips.) . 31:04 – Here’s your refresher on what it means when a planet is at the last degree (29°) of a sign! We also covered planets at 0 and 29 degrees in Episode 15, Venus + Pie: 0-29 Degrees of Separation. . 34:37 – Hi, friends! (Bueller, Bueller?) Listen to them with your pets on April 11! . 03:41 – Opportunities abound: Venus, at 19.43 Aries, sextiles Mars in Gemini (April 6). The planet of relationships is on the Sabian symbol, “A young girl feeding birds in winter” while the planet of action is on, “A cafeteria.” These represent the idea of being fed vs. feeding oneself. Sometimes it’s okay to accept help from others! And sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. . 07:28 – Mars squares Neptune at 21.43 Pisces (Apr. 9). This is the opening square of a cycle that began in June 2020. Do you feel called to take action to promote your sense of spiritual truth? (Review Episode 29, Neptune Washing Over All, and the US Pluto Return, which is when this cycle started.) . 11:04 – Saturn, at 12.01 Aquarius, trines the North Node in Gemini (Apr. 9/10). This is a moment when your intense hard work and self-discipline puts you in a position to demonstrate your skills and shine while doing something you love! Saturn is on the symbol, “A barometer” while the North Node is on, “A great musician at his piano.” Time to improvise with something you’ve been practicing. You’ve got this! . 14:35 – Mercury in Aries sextiles Saturn and then the North Node, about an hour apart (April 10). Head’s up for an opportunity to build new skills and make something lasting out of what you know! (Lots of sextiles this week – lend your ears to Episode 16, Let's Talk about Sextiles for more on this aspect!) . 15:33 – Venus sextiles Jupiter (April 10) on the Sabian symbol for 26 Aries, “A man possessed of more gifts than he can hold.” The planet of abundance sits on 26 Aquarius, “A hydrometer.” This week might bring a great opportunity that you can’t say no to, even though you know you can’t easily handle what it requires. Ask yourself: Is it substantial enough to say yes? The benefit seems to come later on, so decide whether it’s worth it in the present. . 18:12 – **MOONWATCH ** The New Moon is at 22.24 Aries (Apr 11/12). About an hour later, Venus in Aries squares Pluto at 26.44 Capricorn; this creates a driven quality to the New Moon – are you feeling a little obsessive about something you want? Is it for the good of all? . 20:42 – The Sabian symbol for the New Moon is, “A woman in pastel colors carrying a heavy and valuable but veiled load.” This lends a sense of quiet determination and knowing your value but not letting it be widely seen. What is worth measuring to you? . 22:53 – The symbols for Venus and Pluto at this New Moon are 27 Aries, “A lost opportunity regained in the imagination,” and 27 Capricorn, “A mountain pilgrimage.” Have you been visualizing and/or training for something? It’s possible this could be a time when faced with obstacles to achieving it. But if you’ve been preparing for this, and it’s for the good of all, you can push through if you want to! . 24:12 – Look for the house of your birth chart with 22.24 and 26.44 Aries in it. This is where you’re hatching something new that will unfold over the next 2.5 years. The house where 26.44 Capricorn lies is where you have to ignore the self-doubts that could hold you back. And 13 Aquarius (Saturn) is where you’ve been preparing! (Not sure how to find these degrees in your chart? Check out April’s handy video: Where does the transit fall in my chart?) . 24:53 – PSA: Pluto will be on “A mountain pilgrimage” for a while, since he turns retrograde on this point later this month! (You’re welcome!) . 25:22 – All New Moons begin a 28-day cycle, but they also initiate a 2.5-year cycle. This New Moon initiates a new Lunar Phase Family. April and Jen take advantage of a slow astroweek to deliver a mini-lesson on the angular houses, for your enjoyment and edification! We welcome a gentle Pisces New Moon and the Sun and Venus sharing a dream with Neptune: “Please help and care for one another.” And Venus nudges us out of a South Node rut and toward North Node curiosity and inspiration. Plus: cats in aprons, a salute to Switzerland, and… it always comes back to pie, doesn’t it? The equinox is almost here, which means our bonus episode is almost here!! Become a podpal for $5 or more and support the show! We’re at the mid-point between eclipse seasons, so order a personalized Followed by a Moonshadow eclipse report if it suits your fancy! Wondering what this year’s big transits mean for you? Book a reading with April! Follow Big Sky Astrology on IG, Twitter, and FB @BigSkyAstrology Read a full transcript of this episode. Episode links: 00:30 – Pi Day is coming on March 14, (3.14)! What kind of pie will you enjoy? And a round of applause for our friends in Switzerland, who put the BSA podcast on the charts there. Hooray! . 03:20 – Settle in for a mini-lesson on the houses of initiative and leadership, AKA the angular houses (the 1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th). These houses fix us in place on the map of time and correspond to the Sun’s location just before sunrise and sunset, and just before midnight and midday. (Interested in a tutoring session with April? Yes, please!) . 04:36 – The 1st house: your personality, physical body, and personal defense. . 06:53 – Think of the houses as polarities, not simply one unit. Opposite the 1st house is the 7th – they go together like pie and ice cream! The 1st house corresponds with sunrise, and the 7th with sunset. The 7th house is also about joining forces with others, and how we compete (which includes your rivals and “open enemies”). . 09:13 – The 4th house corresponds with midnight and is located at the bottom of the chart (the IC). The 10th house corresponds with noon and is located at the top of the chart (the MC). Here’s a handy cheatsheet to give you a visual! . 10:05 – The 4th house is where you are rooted in the world: your family, security, and nourishment, as well as the defense of these things. . 10:25 – The 10th house: your social status, pursuing your calling or career, defending your reputation. . 11:25 – Do you have planets in the angular houses? Do most people have a planet in an angular house? What if your angular houses are empty? Here’s what all that means! . 13:18 – April’s book The Essential Guide to Practical Astrology has a whole chapter (Chapter 9: Celestial Navigation) on angular houses! Pick up a copy if you don’t have one, won’t you? Oprah recommends it! . 13:43 – Venus, at 15.11 Pisces, squares the Lunar Nodes on the Sabian symbol, “The flow of inspiration” (March 9). The North Node in Gemini is on, “A woman suffragist orating.” And the South Node is on, “Seagulls watching a ship.” Perhaps the path forward is in speaking out – especially as it relates to relationships, money, and values. . 16:14 – A two-fer: The Sun joins up with Neptune on March 10, and a few days later Venus does the same on March 13. All of this action happens on the same Sabian symbol: 21 Pisces, “A little white lamb, a child, and a Chinese servant.” April sees this symbol as one that highlights relationships based on caring and oversight; it’s a reset for creative and relationship cycles to attune to the oneness of all things. Jen wonders if the Sun will pass along a dreamy message – perhaps something about imagination, compassion, healing, or spirituality. Neptune then whispers to Venus, “Here’s the dream: Care for each other, help each other! And oh hey, maybe save the taxes ‘til next week!” (Review Episode 23, Talkin’ Taurus and the Void (Of Course!) Moon to hear our first conversation about this symbol.) . 21:53 – Speaking of angular houses… this week’s Moonwatch segment is brought to you by our non-imaginary sponsor: Tenth House Creative! You can also find them on IG: @tenthhousecreative . 24:45 – **MOONWATCH ** This week brings a New Moon at 23.03 Pisces (March 13) on the Sabian symbol, “An inhabited island,” which speaks to the ways in which we are both together and apart from others. Pisces, in general, is a sign that needs time away; it soaks up all the surrounding vibes and then needs a rest. Maybe watch the movie Cast Away while you are on your retreat? . 26:30 – New Moons are a good time to plant something fresh: They start new 28-day,6-month, and 2.5-year cycles. This New Moon also features four planets – the Sun, Moon, Venus, and Neptune - close together in Pisces, all making a helpful sextile to Pluto, lending some spine and grounding. The four-planet pile-up is also square the Nodes, because we are at the midpoint of eclipse season! (April’s eclipse report, “Followed by a Moonshadow,” will help you get ready!) . 28:36 – The green light we’ve been waiting for: This New Moon also features Mars in Gemini trine Saturn in Aquarius, a get-it-done aspect. This aspect will lend the capacity to come up with a plan, map it out, take the individual needed steps, and get started. Perhaps it’s a good time to make a move regarding those big Sun-conjunct-Neptune dreams! . 31:59 – Thanks for listening, podpals! If you’d like to support the show at no cost to you, please kindly give us a 5-star rating, subscribe or follow wherever you listen, and/or leave a happy review – here’s how! (Perhaps it’s time to catch April’s guest appearance on the Dr. Pat Show!) . 03:55 – This week’s Moonwatch segment is brought to you by our lovely non-imaginary sponsor, Faunabelle Tarot!! We’re pleased to promote these gorgeous cards – do check out their Kickstarter Preview which launched on Dec. 19th! Let’s help make this wonderful dream a reality! . 07:37 – ** MOONWATCH! ** The last Full Moon of 2020 occurs Dec. 29 at 8.53 Cancer, bringing to mind what was started 2 weeks ago (at the monthly New Moon), 6 months ago (at the Cancer New Moon), and July 2019 (at the Cancer Solar Eclipse that began this lunar phase family). Is there a thread connecting all of these points in time? This Full Moon asks us to remember: What are your roots? Who do you call family? What are the things that really matter to you? And, how can you balance all of that with Capricorn’s worldly ambition? . 11:59 – This Full Moon’s last aspect in its sign is a contentious square to Mars. So the energy of this Full Moon chart is already headed toward eventual fisticuffs, as we struggle to determine: How strongly secured are we to our emotional foundations? . 14:39 – Venus joins up with the South Node in Sagittarius (Dec. 31), offering us an opportunity to let go of the things that don’t matter, so that we can travel more lightly and more freely. . 16:01 – Venus, at 18.26 Sagittarius, squares Neptune in Pisces (Dec. 30) on the Sabian symbol, “Pelicans changing their habitat.” Neptune is on, “A master instructing his pupil.” Are you looking at your relationships, money, and values realistically? Or are you wanting to “change habitat” because you’re with someone who thinks it’s their job to “instruct you”? (Review Episode 59, A Volcanic Virgo Last Quarter Moon & Mercury Runs Amok, when the Sun and Mercury both squared Neptune.) . 19:53 – We checked the ephemeris and noticed that Neptune has been (and continues to be) on the Sabian symbol, “A master instructing his pupil” for over 3 months (Oct. 3, 2020 – Jan. 23, 2021)! Is there somebody in your life teaching you something important about compassion, or reality, or giving you a new sense of spiritual purpose? And, what can you believe in when things seem difficult? (We first talked about this symbol in Episode 51, Libra New Moon: Symmetry Schmemmetry! Or give Episode 57, Learning from Neptune, Giving Thanks, & Our One-Year Podiversary! a try.) . 23:58 – Mercury rings in the New Year at 18.28 Capricorn and sextiles Neptune (Jan 1) on the symbol, “A child of about five with a huge shopping bag.” And Neptune continues to instruct us. Sure, we have our plans and tasks and resolutions… but aren’t we also learning how to go with the flow? (Jupiter was also on this point in Episode 51, Libra New Moon: Symmetry Schmemmetry! if you’d like to hear more about that.) . 28:06 – Many thanks for a great podcasting year, dear listeners! We so appreciate you! If you enjoy the show and listen on Apple, would you please do us a favor and write us a happy review for BSA on Apple Podcasts? And who else likes noodling around? . 02:42 – ** MOONWATCH! ** It’s eclipse season! This week we welcome the last Lunar Eclipse of 2020, which is also a Full Moon at 8°38’ Gemini (Nov. 30). Lunar eclipses are often about changes in relationship – have you taken a particular path as far as it can go? The Gemini/Sag axis is about information, learning, and ideas. It is generally more impactful if you have planets/points between 4°38’ and 12°38’ of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, or Pisces. (Do check out where on Earth this eclipse is happening; perhaps you can see it from your city! And, to find the house where the eclipse falls in your birth chart, here's April's helpful post!) . 08:23 – Other eclipses near 8 Gemini occurred on: May 30 1984 (Solar), Nov. 29 1993 (Lunar), May 31 2003 (Solar), June 1 2011 (Solar), and Nov. 28 2012 (Lunar). What themes have been playing out for you? Also, go back to June 3 2019, because that’s when this lunar phase family began. (Don’t forget to read April’s book, The Essential Guide to Practical Astrology!) . 12:26 – Mercury is the ruler of this eclipse; does this eclipse have a Scorpio flavor? (Review Episode 5, Unboxing Eclipses to hear more about eclipses! And make sure to order your copy of April’s personalized Followed by a Moonshadow eclipse report!) Podcast listeners can use this code at checkout to get $5 off: BSASBS. . 15:08 – Paving the way: Mercury sextiles Saturn at 28°23’ Scorpio/Capricorn (Nov. 30). Saturn is packing his bags to head into Aquarius soon, and this handshake happens at the anaretic degree. There has been a lot of earth energy throughout 2020… air is incoming in a few weeks! Mercury in Scorpio is a magical placement; your request might be granted, but first you must ask… and always remember the three essential prayers! . 20:10 – Mercury bounds into Sagittarius (Dec. 1), communicating in a more frank, open, cheerful, and opinionated way. Beware thinking you know everything! . 23:13 – Venus, at 18°10’ Scorpio, trines Neptune in Pisces (Dec. 5/6). This is a symbiotic relationship: Venus brings Neptune back from La-La Land, while Neptune offers Venus some hope and gentleness. (April’s Saints & Suckers: Neptune in Relationship class is available for rent or for purchase if you’d like to learn more.) . 27:24 – Many thanks, dear listeners! Episode links: 00:30 – April’s former astrology teacher, Diane Ronngren, passed away over the weekend. Sending out love into the world in her memory – a shout-out to all the teachers! . 04:29 – Meditate on the message! The Sun trines Neptune in Pisces (Nov. 9/10) on the Sabian symbol for 19 Scorpio, "A parrot listening then speaking.” Neptune is on the symbol, “A master instructing his pupil.” Taken together, these represent the fine line between receiving instruction and simply parroting what we’ve been told. This connection is often about ego and letting go of the individual sense of self and relinquishing our own identity to some degree. (Refer to Episode 15, Venus + Pie: 0-29 Degrees of Separation to hear about the conjunction from March 8.) . 07:37 – Mercury enters Scorpio once again (Nov. 10)! This is the perfect time to search for the truth, look deep, have meaningful conversations, do some editing, go to therapy, or get an astrology reading! (Review Episode 48, The Libra Equinox & Mercury Goes Sleuthing for more details on the communication planet in the sign of the scorpion.) . 10:44 – What’s a conjunction? Jupiter meets up with Pluto for the third and final time (Nov. 12). The action is at 22°52’ Capricorn, and this is one of the big themes that has been playing out all year; it takes place at the same point where Saturn and Pluto met up in January. What structures are being torn down in your life? What are you building and expanding? Dana Gerhardt’s article on the history of pandemics and their connection to Jupiter and Pluto is fascinating. . 13:51 – Third time’s the charm! Jen pitches a question about how and why we have three of the same planetary meet-ups in one year. April hits it out of the park. The first two conjunctions were April 4 (Episode 19, Jupiter Meets Pluto: Two Thumbs…Up?) and June 29/30 (Episode 32, Capricorn Lunar Eclipse: A Minnesota Goodbye). . 17:10 – Get your motor running: Mars turns direct at 15°14 Aries on Friday the 13th! (Hear all about how that day came to be infamous in Episode 3, Gemini Full Moon: Alexa, Play "Love the One You're With".) The planet of action prefers forward momentum, so this will be helpful! The joyful Sabian symbol is, “Brownies dancing in the setting sun.” We’ll take it! (Hear more about this topic in Episode 31, Mars in Aries and the Swivel Chair of Doom.) . 21:52 – ** MOONWATCH! ** This week we have a New Moon at 23°18’ Scorpio (Nov. 14/15). This is a Supermoon  (it’s at its closest orbit to Earth). Does “Scorpio New Moon” seem contradictory? A New Moon, in general, is about fresh starts; Scorpio tends to be about endings. This Moon speaks to fresh resolve we find when death or other difficulty has touched our lives. The intriguing symbol is, “Crowds coming down the mountain to listen to one man.” As we write these show notes, Joe Biden has just become the president-elect of the US. Might this indicate the official conclusion of the vote-counting? . 25:00 – This New Moon makes lovely sextile aspects to Jupiter and Pluto, which can often be about wealth. And in this chart, Venus squares Jupiter and Pluto (exact on Nov. 15). Venus is related to relationships, money, wealth, ethics, and personal self-worth. This can indicate a turning point in close relationships. . 29:10 – And there was much rejoicing, for you, our listeners! If you’re so moved, please give us a 5-star rating, subscribe wherever you listen, and/or give us a kind review. This episode is brought to you by Podathon donor CHRIS WILLIAMS! Thank you, Chris, for contributing to our Podathon! And if any other dear listeners haven’t had the chance to donate, please kick in $5 or more and we’ll send you an invitation to a year’s worth of solstice/equinox episodes – this will include our hotly anticipated upcoming solstice episode next month! April & Jen bring you the biggest news of the week: Mars squaring off with Pluto, which seems ominous… yet the symbolism might support deeper, positive work. A Last Quarter Moon in Taurus prompts a discussion of the larger picture surrounding this lunar phase, which includes Uranus turning retrograde for a five-month nap and the Sun kissing Mars. Also: marshmallows, grandparents, and 25,000 ways to say thank you. Although, really… it always comes back to pie, doesn’t it? Sign up for April's mailing list for updates, a free monthly lunar workbook, AND an email tutorial on the Lunar Phases! Follow Big Sky Astrology on IG, Twitter, and FB @BigSkyAstrology Read a full transcript of this episode. Episode links: 00:35 – Yep, we’re extending the birthday celebration, because why not? To hear the solar return mini-lesson and infamous birthday song and spousal cameo, go to Episode 37, Full Moon in Aquarius & Many Happy (Solar) Returns. Give a listen while you’re eating s’mores and lemon meringue pie! . 05:18 – Leonine Mercury squares bullish Uranus at 10°40’ (Aug. 10). The planet of communication is on the Sabian symbol “Children in a swing in a huge oak tree.” The planet of disruption is on “A woman sprinkling long rows of flowers.” (Review Episode 23, Talkin’ Taurus and the Void (Of Course!) Moon for more on these symbols.) Look for flashes of inspiration, an awakening of ideas, bolts out of the blue, or surprising news – and cultivate some beauty, like some lavender fields or a tulip farm. And take note: This aspect may feel somewhat like a Mercury retrograde! This is the continuation of a story that began around April 30. (And to hear Jen’s parents’ cameo, go to Episode 23, Talkin’ Taurus and the Void (Of Course!) Moon.) . 09:16 – ** Moonwatch! ** This week there is a Last Quarter Moon (LQM) at 19°28’ Taurus (Aug. 11). This reflective point in the lunar cycle always supports contemplation and thinking about “How am I doing to achieve my long-term goals?” So it’s linked to this particular 3-week period, of course, as is the case every month... but also to life in general. . 10:49 – Jen pitches a question: Why do some astrologers associate the lunar cycle with a 28-day cycle, a 6-month-cycle, and 2.5-year cycle? April hits it out of the ballpark. . 12:14 – This LQM is on the Sabian symbol “Wind, clouds, and haste,” but the sign of the bull doesn’t usually move too quickly… perhaps conditions exist in which things are moving rapidly. The Sun is on the symbol “Zuni sun worshippers” which indicates the importance of ritual, being intentional, and revering nature and the natural rhythms and cycles of life. . 14:59 – Mars in Aries squares Pluto in Capricorn at 23°05’ (Aug. 13) for the first of three times between now and the end of the year, continuing a story that began on March 22. Mars wants to move forward at warp speed, but Pluto points out the limits of our personal efficacy and power. The Sabian symbols are lovely, though: Mars is on “An open window and a net curtain blowing into a cornucopia.” And Pluto: “A woman entering a convent.” There might be an opportunity here for you, if you will pause and let yourself retreat and reflect: If change is coming, in what positive direction can you help move it? . 21:07 – Uranus sits down to reverse course (Aug. 15) at 10°41’ Taurus on the symbol “A woman sprinkling long rows of flowers.” Sound familiar? As the planet of the unexpected pauses in the sky, it becomes more internalized and can sometimes act the opposite of what we associate it with. The sideways planet will turn direct in January 2021 at 6° Taurus. (Learn how to find this point in your birth chart here.) .23:43 – The Sun and Mercury in Leo both trine Mars in Aries (Aug. 16). This is a warm, encouraging aspect, so act with heart on your loving, creative impulses. Sun/Mercury are on the symbols for 25 Leo “A large camel crossing the desert.” Mars is on “A double promise.” Both speak of duality and seem future-focused. These might be messages of: What direction are you headed? And, do you have a plan? With the focus on two, it might be wise to have a backup plan too! . 27:40 – Thanks for listening 25,000 times, podpals! We’d love it if you could please take a sec and make sure to subscribe and give us a 5-star rating, or write us a happy review! And, do you like the show? Yay! (And for more on rulerships, visit the episode with one of our favorite titles - Episode 14, Retrograde Minds, Cazimi Hearts, Can’t Lose.) . 4:20 – Mercury joins Venus in the out-of-bounds club (May 16)! (Review Episode 22, Taurus New Moon & Venus Gone Wild to hear about out-of-bounds planets.) . 06:35 – Mercury squares Mars on his way out of Taurus (May 11), gasses up his fast car, and speeds into the house of the Twins. . 07:14 – Mars, the warrior planet, jumps in a meandering Pisces canoe (May 12 – June 27). With Pisces’s connection to infectious disease and viruses, Mars is definitely wearing his face mask while on deck! . 12:01 – First Pluto, then Saturn… and now Venus turns retrograde at 22 degrees Gemini! REevaluate RElationships, REegotiate, REvisit, REdo... words that begin with the letters “RE” are favored during REtrograde times! And, it’s a perfect time for Jen to RE-lobby April to move to Minneapolis… the home of the Twins, no less! How perfect is that for Gemini season? . 14:56 – The Sabian symbol where Venus turns retrograde is, “A barn dance.” This speaks of retracing your steps and an awareness of what it’s like to be in another person’s shoes. And hey, while Venus is moving backwards, standard astro-wisdom holds that you might want to avoid major decisions related to money, relationships, and your appearance. Just sayin’. . 20:11 – ** Moonwatch**! The Last Quarter Moon is at 24°13’ Aquarius (May 14) on the Sabian symbol, “A butterfly with the right wing more perfectly formed.” This speaks of minor imperfections and imbalance… but that right wing is really exquisite. The Sun is on, “A large well-kept public park.” (This Sabian symbol was last seen when Pluto stationed to go retrograde – REvisit Episode 22, Taurus New Moon & Venus Gone Wild.) And put on your leisure suit while you’re at it – these are lovely, pretty, slow symbols, with open space for R&R. . 24:57 – The retrograde parade marches on! Jupiter reverses direction this week as well (May 14 – Sept 12). When the outer planets turn around, we usually notice it a couple of days before and after. This is a good retrograde for self-awareness, inner growth, and self-guided studies. . 29:10 – FYI: April’s book, Astrological Transits, is listed as unavailable on Amazon.com through July … but it’s not being revised!
