Gedraaid deze uitzending: Charlie Barnett - Danger in the Dark Danny Elfman / Hildergard von Blingin' - Sally's Song Pierre Henry - Dracula Rosemary Brown - Grubelei Tristan Murail - Vampyr Ravel - Le Gibet Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells
We chat about this classic, 1985 horror comedy- that does both well! Charlie thinks that a vampire has moved in next door and no one will believe him- not even a public access actor who plays a vampire hunter on TV! Can he and his friend, Evil Ed and girlfriend Amy defend the neighborhood from this dandy new arrival? And most importantly, would you fall for a vampire named Jerry?
Things are gonna get SPOOKY!!!!!!
Halloween Horror Nights wasn't always a $575M-per-park juggernaut. When Universal launched Fright Nights in 1991 with just three experimental nights and $12 tickets, they stumbled onto something bigger than a haunted house…they uncovered retail's thirteenth month of revenue. Down to Watch lines up an evening of scares with 2011's Fright Night! Dan and Raul are squaring a spooky circle they started last year with the 1985 original by checking out the second go-round with Colin Farrell, Toni Collette, Imogen Poots and Anton Yelchin in the main roles (we still get an Ed but lose a Billy). This retry at a horror version of Rear Window has the advantage of 20+ years of horror history to draw inspiration and experience from in order to turn this send up of b-movies that ended up as one itself by addressing the mistakes of the first and bringing these characters into the 2010s, an ideal position for a cast and crew to tackle the dreaded remake. Do these modern filmmakers make good on the promise of a clever premise and talented cast or is this an uninspired rehash of the first foray into fang territory? Vegas odds are good!

It's that time of year again on The Film ‘89 Podcast as we bring you our 2025 Halloween Horror Special. Joining Skye are two returning co-hosts, Stephen Simpson and John Arminio, and the horror film they've picked as the focus of this episode is Tom Holland's 1985 cult classic, Fright Night, starring Chris Sarandon, William Ragsdale, Amanda Bearse and Roddy McDowell. Based on an original script by Holland, Fright Night blends elements of Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window with Hammer horror and vampire lore as it tells the tale of teenager, Charley Brewster, who suspects that his new next door neighbour, Jerry Dandridge, may be a vampire. With outstanding practical makeup effects and assured direction from first time director Holland, Fright Night would go on to become a beloved cult classic and one of the very best horror films of the 1980s.
A remake of the cult 1985 film, Fright Night received decent reviews and a lukewarm box office draw. Jason Stein of Dads from the Crypt and Derick talk about why the film should be given a second chance, the late Anton Yelchin, and the unique Las Vegas horror setting. Every autumn, as the leaves turn and the air grows crisp in Virginia's Shenandoah County, a unique transformation takes place inside a cavernous warehouse usually reserved for the nation's grandest parade floats. This is the home of American Fright Night, a one-of-a-kind haunted house experience that draws thrill-seekers and families alike. In this episode of “Tourism Tuesday,” host Janet Michael, joined by co-host Kary Haun, sat down with Ashley Proctor, Director of Events and Marketing for Shenandoah Caverns, and Bo Wills, the creative and maintenance director behind Fright Night, to pull back the curtain on this beloved local tradition. The conversation opens with a sense of excitement and nostalgia, as Kary recalls the annual anticipation for Fright Night and the unmistakable signs of fall in Shenandoah County—pumpkin spice, local potato chips, and the buzz of community events. But it's the transformation of the American Celebration on Parade building that truly captures the imagination. Bo and Ashley share how the idea for Fright Night was born from a desire to do something special with the space, which houses massive parade floats from the Rose Bowl and Thanksgiving Day parades. When the opportunity finally arose, the team leapt into action, designing a haunted house that is as creative as it is immersive. Building Fright Night is no small feat. The team has just a month to construct elaborate sets, design new scares, and coordinate a growing cast of volunteer actors—many of them local students eager to unleash their inner ghouls. Bo describes the joy of seeing volunteers, often quiet in everyday life, come alive in costume, delighting in the freedom to scare and entertain. The event is constantly evolving, with new scenes and layouts each year to keep even returning guests on their toes. Accessibility is a point of pride for the organizers. With 40,000 square feet to work with, the team ensures that 90% of the haunt is wheelchair accessible, a rarity among haunted attractions. Special “scare-free” nights and family-friendly events like trunk-or-treat make Fright Night welcoming for all ages and comfort levels. Ashley details the logistics of ticketing, group sizes, and the careful pacing that allows each group to enjoy the experience at their own speed—whether they're sprinting through in terror or savoring every detail. Beyond Fright Night, the conversation highlights the rich tapestry of events and attractions that make Shenandoah County a destination in its own right. From the historic caverns and the whimsical parade float museum to wine festivals, farm-to-table dinners, and live theater, there truly is something for everyone. Kary reflects on the county's unique blend of rural charm and vibrant community spirit, encouraging listeners to explore all that the region has to offer. As the episode draws to a close, the sense of community and creativity that fuels American Fright Night is unmistakable. It's more than just a haunted house—it's a celebration of local talent, tradition, and the joy of coming together to create something unforgettable. Whether you're a fan of jump scares or prefer your autumn festivities a little tamer, Shenandoah County's Fright Night promises a memorable experience for all.

Lets get spooky!
This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana welcome Shamus back on the show as they discuss the 1985 horror film Fright Night. In this one, Herman (from Herman's Head. Remember that one?) and Marcy D'arcy work with Cornelius the Ape as they try to thwart Vampire Humperdinck from killing more area hookers. This one also stars Evil Ed, who's career went in a somewhat different direction, but only Jason recognized him for his work in that (Google Sam Ritter, but make sure you turn your browser histroy off). Enjoy the podcast.Jason, Andy and Dana will discuss a 1985 movie weekly, breaking down all the nonsense there within. The 3 hosts all work together and everyone else around them was getting really annoyed at all the movie talk, so they decided to annoy the world in podcast form.Check out previous seasons to hear them discuss 1982, 1983 & 1984 movies, as well as a full season of Love Boat episodes (if that is your thing). Plus one-off specials and a weekly mini "what are we watching" podcast.#jezoo74 #aegonzo1 #danacapoferri #exciting_new

THE SWIMMER (1968) We dive deep in to The Swimmer and discuss and analyze, maybe just a little bit the glorious film directed by Frank Perry, based on a screenplay by Eleanor Perry, from the 12 page short story by John Cheever. "Well-off ad man Ned Merrill (Burt Lancaster) is visiting a friend when he notices the abundance of backyard pools that populate their upscale suburb. Ned suddenly decides that he'd like to travel the eight miles back to his own home by simply swimming across every pool in town."If you're reading this I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support.
