Five years away from the 2030 deadline, none of the global gender equality targets are on track. From poverty to conflict, the setbacks are staggering.According to a new UN report launched on Monday, extreme poverty rates for women and girls have hardly moved in the last five years.Data shows that by the year 2030, there will be 351 million women and girls who live in the very worst forms of poverty around the world.But the report also points to real solutions, and what's possible when countries invest in women and girls.UN News's Ana Carmo sat down with Sarah Hendriks, Director of the Policy Division at UN Women, to discuss the main findings of the 2025 SDG Gender Snapshot report. 

After recovering from her battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in the late 1990's Shannon Hartey had a number of late effects that bothered her until 2020. By that time Shannon was in her early 30's  and these late effects got so bad, that Shannon was unable to know from day to day whether the intense  pain level that she was receiving in her head for a variety of reasons  combined with other cognitive issues that can happen to her at any time , will allow her to have even a normal day. The alternative, which happens regularly, takes her to a health level that is so difficult, it can make her life totally miserable on many levels. What Shannon has been diagnosed with, all because of her treatment for ALL which she received after this form of Pediatric Blood Cancer was discovered when she was 6 years old in 1994, is known as SMART SYNDROME. These late effects are almost totally unheard of, and have been very difficult for some of the best oncologists and doctors to have an answer for.

Well, y'all, this was a BIG week. Right after our last Cup of Justice episode was published, Eric's law firm Bland Richter announced they will be representing Sandy Smith in her mission to finally get answers about Stephen's death. Within a day of announcing this partnership, SLED chief Mark Keel called Eric and told him that his agency believes that Stephen was NOT hit by a car but rather was murdered and that SLED is devoting more resources to finding out who killed Stephen. I cannot express how emotional and bittersweet it has been this past week. I'm so happy for Sandy, Stephanie, the Smith family and everyone who knew and loved Stephen in that they finally have a fighting chance at getting some answers.  But this took FAR TOO LONG. No family should have to work this hard to get law enforcement to acknowledge the truth about how their loved one died.  Now that we're here, though, we're ready to see some much-deserved JUSTICE for Stephen Smith. Haley's story highlights this so potently… Story Time: Sarah and Hayley talk about the pattern of some (usually unknown) event being a catalyst for her then boyfriend to either just up and ghost her, or criticize and blame her, and then ghost her.  After a period of time, he would reappear in her life, and justify his ghosting with some victim-y story, typically combined with a non-apology apology, and THEN he would love-bomb her to draw her back in.  They talked about the self-gaslighting and self-abandonment this eventually happened for Haley, and, how she found peace. Deconstruction Zone: The pattern of behaviors from Haley's ex, and how they “hooked” her: Ignoring reality – not answering texts, not letting Haley know what was bothering him, etc. WHICH IS A POWER PLAY. Whenever it pleased him, he would come back and exaggerate his wounds, painting himself as a victim. AND THEN… the love-bombing to lure Haley back in/forgive.  WASH AND REPEAT. Inconsistency + coercion = Haley suffering from mind games. Haley's desire to keep the relationship going + desire to fix things/make them come out well = losing connection to her knowing/perception. Combined with her ex's gaslighting, this led to self-gaslighting in the form of questioning/blaming herself, as well as something we call “false hope”.  Set Your Alarm: Look for inconsistency: 1) When a person's word, actions, and energy don't line up.  2) When they say one thing one day, and something completely opposite on another day.  Now – people are allowed to change their minds… we're talking about when people change what they're saying in such a way that you can NEVER do it right.
