This reboot/remake of the popular 80's franchise burner Freddy Krueger is sort of a mess when it comes to total coherency and execuation and...well, most things. However, our hosts Cameron Scott and  Eric Phillips try to make sense of it all for their discussion on this muddled but interesting attempt at reinventing a horror franchise.   "Did you know that after the heart stops beating, the brain can function for well over seven minutes?"

Following the development of the “Friday the 13th” remake, Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes production company announced plans to take on another franchise with a remake of the 1984 classic “A Nightmare on Elm Street.” The idea behind the remake was taking the “Nightmare” franchise back to its roots as a much scarier film rather than the version that had been duplicated in recent years where antagonist Freddy Krueger was defined by “cracking jokes” and making one-liners before killing his victims. Music video director Samuel Bayer was hired to direct and the vision for the film shifted from a remake to a reimagining with plans to use elements from the original movie but not necessarily copy what Wes Craven had created. Episode 182: The Crew's discussing Freddy vs. Jason and the 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. Freddy vs. Jason was the highest grossing installment of both the Nightmare and Friday franchises. Robert Englund returns to the Freddy role, but New Line Cinema hired a new actor for Jason, leaving Kane Hodder fans disappointed. Fans were happy with the results regardless, and Hollywood started making the vs. films (Alien vs Predator came out the next year). The 2010 Nightmare remake again was a box office hit (highest grossing Nightmare film Worldwide), but the critical and audience reaction was horrible, and a sequel never happened. The film looks great, and Jackie Earle Haley makes the Freddy role his own. He's so good, but the story never feels fresh and questioning whether Freddy is a villain or not is a waste of screen time. (ATTENTION SPOILERS)Déjà vendu aux Etats-Unis comme un petit phénomène horrifique, le nouveau film de John Krasinski laisse pourtant un peu sur sa faim. L’intrigue se déroule en 2020 où l’humanité a quasiment été rayée de la carte par de mystérieuses créatures dont la particularité est de tuer tout ce qui fait du bruit. Le film part sur les traces des Abbott, une famille qui a survécu grâce à sa maîtrise de la langue des signes et qui va courir de très gros risques lors de la grossesse de la mère, interprétée par Emily Blunt. Si les intentions du films sont plutôt nobles, qu’il en ressort de jolies idées et qu’on ressent vraisemblablement l’amour de Krasinski pour son sujet, le film donne pourtant l’impression de ne pas être complètement terminé. Le scénario n’est pas très abouti et les évolutions des personnages sont un peu vite expédiées.
