Suj and James review another dramatic weekend of football in the Premier League that included a brilliant encounter at St James's Park as Chelsea earned a hard earned point from two down, Liverpool just about getting over the line against 9 man Tottenham, Arsenal staying top for Christmas after victory at Everton, Leeds scoring four against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa maintained their outstanding winning run against Manchester United. A Manchester United for whom Bruno Fernandes was replaced at half time with a hamstring problem, and for owners that's a headache they weren't preparing for. Many owners and non owners will now likely chase the in-demand Hugo Ekitike who scored again, and now looks secure for minutes following a serious looking injury to Alexander Isak. He may even be worth trusting with the armband this week But there's plenty of other assets in demand too, with discussion featuring the likes of Matheus Cunha, Declan Rice and Jarrod Bowen. And there's others who are not, such as Igor Thiago who hasn't registered a shot in Brentford's last two outings against Leeds and hapless Wolves. Plus, coverage of defensive options, enablers, and Suj has been on tilt in FPL, Tottenham just have James fully tilted. Ben Haines, Luke Edwards and Clinton Morrison discuss the weekend's Premier League action. After Morgan Rogers scored another brace for Aston Villa in their 2-1 win over Manchester United, is he one of the most in-form players in the league right now? And how fearful should Manchester United fans be after Bruno Fernandes left the field at half time due to injury? In the weekend's other matches, they discuss whether Arsenal's lack of convincing wins should be concerning, and one of the games of the season – Newcastle v Chelsea. Should there have been a penalty? Plus, what does Alexander Isak's injury mean for Liverpool, and how concerning is Tottenham's discipline? And at the bottom of the table, is there any way back for Rob Edwards' Wolves?TIME CODES:02:25 – Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers 10:55 – Manchester United 17:05 – Arsenal 28:20 – Newcastle v Chelsea 40:30 – Tottenham v Liverpool 48:50 – Manchester City and Erling Haaland 52:00 – Relegation Picture
#950 | Ed and Wayne dissect Manchester United's defeat away at Aston Villa, a match that briefly suggested progress before unraveling in depressingly familiar fashion. A strong first half gave way to defensive errors, mounting absences, and an untimely injury to Bruno Fernandes, leaving Ruben Amorim staring at another damaging afternoon. They assess what United did well, where the team failed, and how much responsibility sits with execution versus selection. The discussion turns to injuries and squad depth, the ongoing reliance on youth, and whether Amorim's decision-making shows conviction or caution. With a difficult run of fixtures ahead, the key question hangs over the episode: does Amorim respond by doubling down on control and safety, or does he finally take the risks this squad appears to demand? 00:00 Introduction and welcome 01:19 Positives and negatives from Villa 02:06 Breaking down the performance 03:58 Injuries and their wider impact 09:06 Youth players and selection calls 15:40 Managerial scrutiny and short-term outlook 29:38 Historical parallels and risk appetite 33:32 Amorim's growing list of challenges 35:24 Tactical tweaks and in-game responses 38:40 The fixtures ahead and what they demand 53:03 Nepo babies in football 59:40 Final thoughts If you are interested in supporting the show and accessing a weekly exclusive bonus episode, check out our Patreon page or subscribe on Apple Podcasts. Dharmesh Sheth is joined by Martin Samuel, Dominic King and Julien Laurens to reflect on the weekend's sporting action. We start with The Ashes, as Australia defeat England in the third Test in Adelaide to seal the series. Martin labels it a “crushing disappointment” for England, while Julien points out this wasn't even Australia at full strength. Adam Collins joins the show to praise a dominant Australian performance and predicts a 5–0 whitewash. We then move to Liverpool's dramatic 2–1 win over nine-man Spurs. Dominic questions Isak's underwhelming spell after another injury, while Julien points to lingering defensive problems. Next, we ask where Spurs are heading, as Julien argues it's hard to see what Thomas Frank is trying to do.Also, Manchester United's chaos continues after a 4–4 draw with Bournemouth, prompting debate over whether Amorim has got it wrong on Kobbie Mainoo and his role in the team. Finally, we turn to the title race: is the pressure mounting on Arsenal? Top of the league but unconvincing, and with Gyökeres' form in doubt, we as who should lead the line when fully fit? And after a 3–0 win over West Ham, Man City look dominant in the title chase. Dom says, in a head-to-head, you'd pick Guardiola over Arteta every time.Sunday Supplement is a Sky Sports podcast. Aston Villa arrive at Christmas in form, winning ugly, and climbing quietly. The league table looks healthy. The mood should be festive. And yet Manchester United turn up again, dragging decades of baggage with them.On this week's My Old Man Said, we ask the only question that matters. Is this finally an Emery Christmas, or are Villa about to be visited once more by the ghosts of United past?We strip away the noise around title talk, dig into why Villa still cannot relax against United, and question whether this run of one-goal wins signals control or simply survival. There is Europa League progress, Basel reflections, United's injuries and absences, and the uncomfortable truth that history keeps intruding no matter how poor they look on paper. No hype. No festive false comfort. Just a clear-eyed look at where Villa really are and what beating United now would actually mean. Also, we hear the first track on the Lovers Walk Unlimited Christmas EPListen here to A Holte End Christmas EP UTVGET AD-FREE SHOWS and JOIN MATCH CLUBGet ad-free shows and extra shows, and join My Old Man Said's 24/7 Villa community, Match Club. For more details and to become a member, click here: Become a MOMS MemberJoin the show's listener facebook group The Mad Few.Credits:David Michael - @myoldmansaid Chris Budd - @BUDD_musicPhillip Shaw - @prsgameMy Old Man Said - https://www.myoldmansaid.comThis Podcast has been created and uploaded by My Old Man Said.

Bournemouth have a clear policy of signing young talent, giving them Premier League experience, and profiting from their departure. Whilst this formula is admirable, it leads to high personnel turnover, an ever-changing and uncertain squad dynamic, the constant need to retrain new recruits, and it puts pressure on recruitment to get the right players in. With Marcos Senesi being the latest player to signal his intent to move, we ponder whether Bournemouth's transfer approach potentially needs more balance, which in turn would create a greater amount of stability amid a perceived player "exodus". Rio heads to Carrington for an unmissable sit-down with Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes — his most honest interview yet.For the first time, Bruno lifts the lid on the truth behind his Manchester United loyalty, revealing two genuine chances he had to leave, why he stayed, and how modern players' loyalty is judged differently compared to legends like Francesco Totti, Ryan Giggs and Paolo Maldini.Bruno also breaks down the big tactical shift in his game this season — how playing deeper has changed his decision-making, the challenges for him and Kobbie Mainoo who play in that role what the manager demands from him in the No.8 position, and how Italian football influenced his game.He gives rare insight into United's dressing room dynamics, analysing his teammates and explaining the incredible level of detail he computes on the pitch to ensure he delivers the perfect pass depending on which forward he's feeding.Bruno also addresses Roy Keane's criticism and how he really feels about it, the private conversations referees have had with him about body languag and discussions with managers Ruben Amorim and Erik Ten Hag about the level of pressure he puts on himself and how it sometimes negatively affects the team's structure. And in classic Rio Meets style, Bruno opens up about the personalities behind the scenes — the biggest jokers in the squad, what really happens when someone steps out of line, and how he handles moments as captain that fans never get to see.
