DIC return to the podcast this week with another of their Saturday morning cartoons based on a videogame. This time around it's Captain N: The Game Master, a giant Nintendo commercial featuring appearances from all of the iconic Nintendo characters such as Mega Man, Kid Icarus, Simon Belmont and Super Ma-...oh, wait, what's that? Mario isn't in this? They didn't even get Luigi? Oh. What are we doing here then? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The Castlevania series is rich with lore and history, offering a vast timeline of events and a diverse cast of characters, both human and supernatural. Here's an expanded overview I used for this podcast: Early Beginnings: The earliest known events in the Castlevania timeline date back to ancient times, where the origins of Dracula, the primary antagonist, are often explored. Depending on the continuity, Dracula may have been a human who turned to dark magic, a fallen angel, or even Vlad the Impaler himself, infused with dark powers. The Belmont Legacy: The Belmont family stands as the primary force against Dracula and his minions throughout the series. Originating with Leon Belmont in the 11th century, the family's lineage includes formidable vampire hunters like Trevor Belmont, Christopher Belmont, Simon Belmont, and many others. Each generation brings forth a new hero to combat the forces of darkness. Rise of Dracula: Dracula's return is a recurring theme in Castlevania lore. Typically, his resurrection is triggered by various means, including cultists performing dark rituals, misguided scientists experimenting with forbidden knowledge, or simply the passage of time weakening the seals that bind him. Allies and Adversaries: Alongside the Belmonts, numerous other characters play significant roles in the struggle against Dracula. These include allies like the magician Sypha Belnades, the half-vampire Alucard (Dracula's son), and the pirate Grant Danasty. Conversely, Dracula's inner circle often consists of powerful minions, such as Death, Carmilla, and Shaft, who aid him in his quest for dominion over humanity. The Eternal Conflict: The battle between Dracula and the forces of good is not limited to the physical realm. Themes of redemption, sacrifice, and the nature of humanity versus monstrosity are prevalent throughout the series. Characters often grapple with their own inner demons as they confront the external threat posed by Dracula and his ilk. Adaptations and Expanded Universe: The Castlevania series has expanded beyond video games into other media, including animated series, novels, and comics. These adaptations often explore different aspects of the lore, providing additional depth to the characters and setting. By delving into these aspects, I provide my listeners with a comprehensive overview of the rich tapestry that is the Castlevania timeline and the history of vampire hunters within it. https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=803973507752007&set=a.277878573694839 https://open.spotify.com/playlist/09olq4cpNbc6CRgDe5GzkA?si=2d3c1b8c2c4d4ec8 --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/willie-jackerson/message

Mike and Neil have covered 555 GameCube games and this week they are adding to that number by covering five exclusive Japanese GameCube games. Nintendo Puzzle Collection - a colourful set of Yoshi's Cookie, Dr. Mario and Panel De Pon games, Kukurin Smash - a sequel to the GBA game that's currently on Switch Online services, Robocop - That's right, a Robocop game that is made by the same developers as Superman 64 so take that as you will, DreamMix World Fighters - an insane crossover featuring characters like Optimus Prime, Bomberman, and Simon Belmont, and finally Homeland - a online RPG game resembling a mix of Animal Crossing Cubivore and Doshin the Giant. The boys are joined by Marcelo from the fantastic YouTube channel @gamecubegalaxy to discuss these games in depth and lament why we never were able to get North American ports of them.

Join me as we take a journey back to the time of King Arthur and his Knights of Justice. On this exciting interview I am talking with actor Andrew Kavadas the man behind the voice of Arthur King from King Arthur and the Knights of Justice. This was by far one of my absolute favorite animated shows growing up as it dealt with Arthurian Legend, King Arthur. History has always been one of my favorite subjects and that combined with an amazing voice cast, dealing with King Arthur and his Knights in a unique and mythical way was mind blowing as a kid. If you haven't seen this series I highly recommend King Arthur and the Knights of Justice to anyone and everyone. I have always thought the concept of this show would make an excellent live action movie. Anyway, not only did Andrew voice King Arthur aka Arthur King. He also voiced Simon Belmont on Captain N: The Game Master. I hope you enjoy todays episode. What, you wanna listen to Axe of the Blood God's very special Shin Megami Tensei 5 episode, guest starring Game Informer's Kim Wallace? Hmmm... gimme one life stone. I'll also take 300 macca and a shitload of your health! Just kidding -- your friendship is more than enough to get access to our SMT V review. How does it play? What are its strengths? Its weakness? Is it a good entry point for SMT V virgins? Kat, Nadia, Eric, and Kim will fill you in on all the haunting deets. Also in this episode: We're trying out a brand-new format that (hopefully) makes the show easier to listen to and enjoy! Come for Kat's Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl critique, stay for Nadia's disjointed rant about Simon Belmont from Captain N. Something about a bomber jacket?
In this premiere of CAPTAIN N: THE GAME MASTER your Saturday Morning preservationist, Christopher Jay, takes a look at the origin of the show. We take a look at the talent behind the scenes, a rundown of the pilot, “Kevin in Videoland”, and a look at the legacy of CAPTAIN N: THE GAME MASTER after all these years. It's not just a look at CAPTAIN N: THE GAME MASTER but also how the video game show came to be. Explore the life and times of Matt Hill, Venus Terzo, and the rest of the cast. As a bonus, come back to the 19th Century to the very beginning of Nintendo, and their rise to become a gaming giant. Come along with Kevin, Princess Lana, and the worthless Simon Belmont all the way back to September 9, 1989. Take a trip back to the 80s, and explore life in a video game! And ponder questions like: Why is Donkey Kong wearing a shower cap? Why couldn't I have been zapped into Video Land? Are Mother Brain and Audrey II related? And, what's up with Nintendo's Love Hotel? Thanks for ‘tooning in. Castlevania, released in 1986 in Japan and 1987 in the US, was a major turning point for Konami's home efforts, transitioning them from merely porting their arcade experiences to creating games with the home market in mind. The story of Simon Belmont battling Dracula in the latter's castle has been retold in five different games, each one with the same underpinnings but still very different based on what platform it appeared on. James and Krissi crack the whip on this landmark series for the first of many, many times to come.

Mailen mag ook nog steeds naar castard[at]geekster.be.

Jeremy got that vaccine fever (horny for vaccines) for a few days, so we decided to take a week off, in fear that an extra loopy episode could turn our upcoming Part 3 into a 4-Parter. Woof. So here's an oldie from the Captain N days! Pat from Castle Super Beast joins the podcast to talk about how goddamn fucked up Captain N: The Game Master is! Simon Belmont shoots himself in the ass with a love arrow, accidentally forcing him to fall in love with Mother Brain. Meanwhile, Mega Man and Kid Icarus meet another deeply fucked up cow. But most importantly, the gang fights, for about 5 seconds, Mr. Bones — a cool 80s skeleton man wearing a skeleton shirt. Mr. Bones fuckin rules, you guys. You're gonna love Mr. Bones.

We have gushed about Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on nearly every episode. We played that magical game back in episode 11 and we can’t seem to shake it’s spell. We loved it so much that we felt shame having never played the original and it was high time we changed that. In this episode, we head back into Dracula’s castle and guide Simon Belmont through Castlevania, the game that started it all and helped pioneer the beloved Metroidvania genre. The game is brief and very challenging. Many aspects of the game felt immediately familiar to Symphony, from the memorable enemies to the atmospheric setting, but it’s much more linear than the open-ended exploration found in later games in the series. The graphics are fantastic, the music is killer, and we no longer feel shame. We hope you enjoy the show and make sure to send us your questions and comments. Arin from Game Grumps joins the podcast this week to watch the most perverted and disgusting Captain N episode yet. What could have been a very innocent tale of Simon Belmont bonking his head whilst skateboarding and forgetting who he was becomes a twisted tale of severed body parts, giant bugs, asses that refuse to quit, and more than a little interspecies intimacy. Also it's full of chiseled butts.
Bones.
Captain N and company are in Dragon's Den, trying to reunite a baby dragon with its dragon mother, in this week's episode set in the world of Dragon Quest, AKA Dragon Warrior. It is honestly mostly dragons this week. King Hippo and Eggplant Wizard drop in long enough to ride a few of those babies and Simon Belmont stops by to milk a cow in one of the more awful ways imaginable. As always, Mark and Jeremy reference and alter the Wiki page, which helps key the boys into one of this (or any) series' most glaring continuity errors.
Anth0z and Mattbrush discuss turning animated characters and Nintendo characters into live action characters. They cast Megaman, Simon Belmont, Samus Aran and more ! Also , they go over the game Dwarf Fortress in all of it's glory. Mattbrush recently discovered the Dwavren adventure game and saw how complicated it's ASCII graphics were. Intrigued, he started up a new dwarven world with it's rich history. After watching the NoClip documentary on Tarn Adams, Mattbrush had to bring this up ! Gweetings, Paisanos! On this week's Captain N, Mother Brain hatches a plan to make, rig, and win a fake video game olympics in Videoland so that she can steal some treasure or something. This episode features Mega Man learning how to throw a shot put, Donkey Kong and Eggplant Wizard forming a tag team, Dracula and Simon Belmont having a ski race, and it's only part one of a cliffhanger! To the wadar woom!
Comedian, actor, and Ace Watkins body double PHIL JAMESSON joins the podcast to discuss this episode in which Kevin has to fight a robot version of his high school bully! We learn Simon Belmont's biggest fear (Dracula) and Kevin's dog's biggest fear (being chased by many cats). But most importantly, we are introduced to Wombatman, this show's parody of Batman who is a literal wombat and has sex with a human woman but SAYS EXPLICITLY that he does not love her.
* Hur i helvete ser Simon Belmont ut i serien Captain Nintendo? Speltips: Blood Stained, Kid Dracula Film och serietips: What we do in the shadows God lyssning! Puss och kram ät en banan!

Simon Belmont is finally making his first appearance on Remember The Game? The fact that it took 101 episodes to happen is unforgivable, but we're gonna right some wrongs in the next hundred episodes. Plus, Super Castlevania IV steamrolled the competition and took down last month's Patreon Poll, so here you go. This game kicks some serious ass. I've always liked and respected the Castlevania games, but I never really put any time into finishing one until now. Thanks to my handy SNES Classic, I can say that I've beaten a Castlevania game, and damned if it doesn't make me want to add more to my resume. (Looking at you, Symphony of the Night...) Co-host of The Movie Epidemic podcast Bradley McCue was kind enough to give me a call and talk Super Castlevania IV, and if you like fast talking blowhards rambling on about kick ass video games from 30 years ago, get comfy. If that's all you're here for, skip to 18:00. Or eat all your dinner and listen to the entire show. We roll out a brand new segment this week! Which involves your reaction to the Playstation 5 reveal. I have a few thoughts about it myself, including the odd design of the system and the games that looked the most interesting to me. I also talk about the gaming blackhole I'm wallowing in while I wait for The Last of Us Part II. Just another day at Remember The Game? Industries. Enjoy the podcast!

WELCOME TO SEASON TWO OF THE PODCAST, PAISANOS! Mark and Jeremy embark on a quest to watch and discuss every episode of 1989's Captain N: The Game Master, a cartoon about a boy named Kevin who gets pulled into an NES with his dog. There, Kevin befriends Simon Belmont, Megaman, and Kid Icarus — none of which seem even remotely related to their video game counterparts. Meanwhile in the live action, nothing happens. This show's all cartoon, sewer simps!

Pat and James go back in time further than they’ve ever been before and play the original Castlevania! First released in 1986, it was the beginning of a legacy that has seen metroidvanias, 3d brawlers and most recently a hit anime series. You play as Simon Belmont, equipped with his iconic whip, as he battles through horror movie monsters to reach the top of Count Dracula’s castle and slay him like the vampire scum he is. It was a hit on release and fans loved its hard as nails gameplay and cheesy horror themes. But how fun is Castlevania to play today? Platformers have seen more than 30 years of careful refinement. Boss fights are far more sophisticated And the NES is hardly the high point of graphical fidelity. Is Castlevania still an enjoyable experience all these years later, or was it simply a good game at the time of its release? On this episode, we discuss:How important is smooth movement in a 2D platformer? Castlevania has very restricted jumping, with no air control or height/length variance. Is this intrinsically flawed, or has the game been designed around these restrictions?Castlevania requires a good amount of memorisation to get through it's dangerous levels. Does this reliance on memorisation versus reaction based systems lead to an equally fun experience? Is Castlevania too hard, or are Pat and James filthy casuals? And will Pat ever shut up about that one boss fight? We answer these questions and many more on the 37th episode of the Retro Spectives Podcast!
