A groundbreaking piece of legislation, the School Lunch Integrity Act of 2024, has been introduced by US Senators Mike Rounds and Jon Tester. In this episode of the Xtalks Food Podcast, Sydney talks about this proposed bill, which specifically aims to exclude lab-grown meat from the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program, thereby preserving traditional meal options for students. Rounds emphasized the importance of relying on high-quality, local beef to nourish students rather than resorting to synthetic alternatives. The introduction of this act sparks a wider discussion on the role of technology in our food systems. As lab-grown meat becomes more commercially viable, its potential advantages come into conflict with safety concerns, cultural acceptance issues and the potential impact on traditional farming practices. The team posits that this bill was introduced far too early and does not consider lab-grown meat's FDA and USDA approvals. Also in this episode, Sydney talks about Smartfood Popcorn's new limited-edition Chocolate Glazed Donut popcorn. This flavor adds to the brand's collection of limited-time offerings, marking the second donut-flavored popcorn to be introduced following the Krispy Kreme Glazed Donut Popcorn in 2021. More recently, Smartfood introduced a limited-edition Marshmallow Hot Cocoa Flavored popcorn for the 2023 holiday season. Since its inception in 1985, Smartfood Popcorn has provided high-quality, ready-to-eat (RTE) popcorn that doesn't compromise on flavor. But Smartfood is not without its competitors. Brands like Skinny Pop, Boomchickapop and Lesser Evil continue to make their mark in the RTE popcorn space, which was worth an estimated $3.5 billion in 2022. Smartfood distinguishes itself through a commitment to quality and innovative flavor combinations. The team wonders how Smartfood got its name and discuss the brand strategy behind limited-edition offerings. Show notes: 0:35: B-Ball Brad. Mainstreaming Ultra. Who's Gonna Drink That? Controversial Kratom. – Mike's quick break from his soccer-themed brunch inspired us to learn more about Brad's lifetime Celtics' fandom. Labeling food as “good” and “bad” sets us up to judge ourselves as good and bad when we eat those foods. And if you're tired of feeling like food has power over you, letting go of these food judgments is one of the most helpful things you can do. It's a tall order though, because we live in a world that constantly sends us messages about how certain foods are “healthy” and other foods are “unhealthy.” It's even built into the marketing of food products. We've got Halo Top ice cream, which is supposed to be seen as a holier-than-thou alternative to regular ice cream, and Skinny Pop popcorn which is marketed as healthier than regular popcorn because it's lower in calories. It can feel impossible to escape this stuff. Don't worry though, because by the end of this episode you're going to understand how to neutralize your food judgments so that you can truly have peace and freedom with food. Different foods have different nutrients - and that's a wonderful thing, not something to be afraid of! So if you're ready to stop battling food, and stop feeling guilty when you eat a piece of pizza or cake, then hit play and let's dive in! Today's Wellness Woo is EFT tapping for weight loss. On today's episode, Barb Monson talks about getting unstuck and working through fears that are holding women who, like herself, were focused on all the “shoulds” in life that do not bring personal satisfaction. This episode is based on one of my most popular, recent blog posts. In it, I explain the problem that arises in the nine figures if founders built a well-timed business primarily using sales and trade techniques. Getting to $100M is getting easier and easier on the back of paced distribution and superbly timed product design, in part because inflation means you don't have to sell to a lot of repeat consumers to generate that kind of money. • So there was a book, I don't even know if it's still... I guess I would still be around. It was a cook book, it was called 5 ingredients, 15 minutes, and it was a cookbook on how all you needed was five ingredients in 15 minutes to cook healthy meals for your family. I thought this was fabulous, I loved it, I pretty much cooked almost everything in there. One of the things that I absolutely love in that book that I still cook today or make today, I guess I should say, is a chili recipe. It's five ingredients, 15 minutes. And so I thought, Wow, this is mind blowing, here I am thinking that it was going to be so expensive and take so much time and energy cooking healthy meals, and it only calls for five ingredients and 15 minutes. (4:11)• Okay, remember what I said before about the 80-20 rule? It doesn't have to be all or nothing, but maybe find a healthy eating plan that works for you, healthy exercise plan that works for you, and it's going to change your life. When you feel better, everything else in your life is going to respond to you differently. So it's so, so important, and the way I like to do things, I'm not saying you should do this, but I'm just saying me. I like to eat more, less refined carbohydrates, lower sugar, more clean, eating more protein, vegetables, fruits without high sugar, and then I like to do some fasting, so after I'm done eating my dinner, sometimes I have my Skinny Pop. (9:11)• Maybe it's a different dessert or a snack that you're having that you're thinking, Oh, maybe if I just cut this out or maybe it's not going to the fast food, and maybe you're doing that every day. Could you cut that out twice a week and just go the other days? You can cut down gradually, just like the manifesting process, just like thinking differently and creating new habits is a process. It's just taking it step by step by step by step. It doesn't have to be a whole 180. You start small, you might start with 30 minutes of exercise and then start loving it and start going, Wow, now I want to do an hour a day. The healthy eating, you might start taking a couple of things away that aren't serving you or not making you feel at your optimal best, and then you might start saying, Wow, I really enjoy eating like this. (11:20)• Think about something that you could start maybe taking away that isn't serving you, and then you'll be intentional with your eating. Then we just change a few things in your eating process or maybe, Hey, you're ready to go, you know what Kristi had been waiting for a sign. I've been waiting for an opportunity to just really, really change on my eating rituals and I'm ready. I'm going all in. That's totally fine too. So however you want to start, but I really want to encourage you to do that. And then I would love for you to come over to MindsetChickGroup.com. Come share with us how you're doing with the self-care challenge. Let us support you, and if you have any new manifestations that have come about, come over and share, and I can't wait to celebrate with you and just hear all of the amazing things that are happening through this self-care challenge.
