What is it about working class Linda Marolla, whom Arthur first encounters in the process of shoplifting a tie for her father's birthday, that helps Arthur grow up? Wes & Erin discuss Steve Gordon's 1981 romantic comedy “Arthur,” and why, if you want to learn to become independent, sometimes the best that you can do is to fall in love.
There were a few raised eyebrows as the All Blacks' pre-match haka was drowned out at Johannesburg's Ellis Park. The team's rendition of Kapa O Pango was interrupted by chanting - and music, pyrotechnics and a flyover from an Emirates Airlines A380 jet. Former All Black Steve Gordon says this felt disrespectful to the All Blacks. "I think they really overstepped the mark. Rugby's built on tradition and the culture - the game's bigger than any team or individual. I think they overstepped it there." LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
It's awful being alone, according to millionaire playboy Arthur Bach, and nobody should be alone. And so he forestalls this feeling by getting drunk, picking up prostitutes, and laughing at his own jokes. Yet love in its true form can be a lonely business, as his servant Hobson reminds him, because it involves growing up, getting serious, and taking care of someone other than oneself … only to lose them—in one way or another—to the inevitable advance of time. What is it about working class Linda Marolla, whom Arthur first encounters in the process of shoplifting a tie for her father's birthday, that gets him beyond this impasse? Wes & Erin discuss Steve Gordon's 1981 romantic comedy “Arthur,” and why, if you want to learn to become independent, sometimes the best that you can do is to fall in love.
“When I'm mindfully moving through nature my senses are alive to color, pattern, shapes, movement, flow, and contrasts. Being in nature while fully present to the experience is a spiritual and life giving experience for me. I feel more deeply connected to myself and to God….My style of painting could be described as a painterly realism. more

All of our February podcasts will be about romantic/passionate films with one-word titles...and we begin "Love In A Word Month" with a chat about Arthur. Steve Gordon's blockbuster comedy was the rare laughy performance that won an Oscar. John Gielgud took it home for what is the funniest role in the movie. Dudley Moore, on the other hand, cackles at every joke he makes when he's drunk, although at least he's actually sweet when he's not playing it blitzed. Liza Minnelli brings a lot of sass to this male-dominated yuckfest as Moore's love interest. She has chemistry with the other 2 guys. It's just that we wish we'd laughed a lot more often and---while the violent climax at the wedding is amusing---the last 5 minutes of the movie are dreadfully unearned. It was a bad ending to what was already a flawed story. So alert the media that our 567th tall glass of Have You Ever Seen is rather critical of Arthur. This week on Flightless Bird, David Farrier attempts to get over the trauma of his last trip to the DMV, where Monica Padman's dirty Prius ruined everything. Will David finally get his license or are he and Monica doomed to fail for all eternity? To help him on his quest, Farrier talks to the head of the California DMV, Steve Gordon. Gordon was brought in four years ago by the governor of LA, Gavin Newsom, to sort out a DMV plagued by issues - and Farrier figures he might have some tips. Or, at the very least, clear up why LA driving licenses list your height and weight… and whether driving instructors want you to pass or fail.

In this episode, Steve Fretzin and Steve Gordon discuss:Why you should write a book (and how it can help your law firm grow). Changing your introduction and cementing your place as the expert. What it takes to write a book today. Using your book to get the right kind of clients. Key Takeaways:You can build your network and get referrals by sharing information. Writing a book allows you to disseminate that information more widely and effectively.Be a part of an organization that works to lift one another, not just lift yourself. The perceived hardest part of writing a book is actually the easiest part of it - writing it. There is a pattern and a structure that works well to reach audiences. You know your content and you are the expert. Your client doesn't want a textbook, they want a transformation. Show them the transformation and the process. That makes a great lead-generating book. In today's episode, I am super excited to bring you an interview about the healing power of music. Music and sound, as we talked about on the podcast with Ashana, can be so healing, especially bringing in the sounds of Mother Earth. I know for myself, being surrounded by the earth and water, and then the birds and the wind are so healing, but we can't always be out in nature. So I wanted to bring this interview to you with Steve Gordon from David and Steve Gordon. Steve Gordon along with his brother, David Gordon, are considered to be innovators. Over the course of their 30-year career, they have consistently pushed the boundaries of musical styles, and their albums have been pivotal in shaping the changing landscape of ambient music, world music, and chill-out electronica . Both David and Steve are award-winning producers, as well as composers, classically trained instrumentalists, and the founders of Sequoia Records, which they have molded into a world-class record label since its inception 26 years ago. Inspired by the tranquility of Sequoia National Park, David, and Steve became a pioneering force in new-age music by using nature sounds as a part of a musical composition to create nature music - a novel approach that had not been accomplished prior. David and Steve's drum music albums, with their juxtaposition of earthy Native American rhythms and modern elements like guitar, keyboards, and chill-out electronica have defined world music and continually taken the concept to new heights. Their album Sacred Earth Drums features an organic fusion of modern and ancient sensibilities and was a #1 best-selling title for over two years following its release. Successive releases have continued to receive accolades, including Sacred Spirit Drums, about which NAPRA Review commented, "This follow-up to Sacred Earth Drums is sure to be just as big... the drumming is joyous," and Drum Medicine, which won prestigious COVR awards for "Album of the Year" and "Best World Album." The Gordon's collaborated with Richard Merrill, research director of Songrest, one of the leading experts in the field of brainwave research. They teamed up to create the most advanced and effective binaural beats music possible. Their new series of Binaural Beats music also includes Isochronic tones in a new way which makes the use of headphones optional. For the first time, you can enjoy the powerful life-changing effect of the binaural beats without the need for headphones. This new breakthrough in brainwave music is only available in this new series from David & Steve Gordon's Binaural Beats Research. In this interview, we talk about music, sacred instruments, global shamanic culture, binaural beats, intention, and the healing power of music. Yes, you can go through your day or fall off to sleep without it but having a way to connect to your Spirit is so powerful. Music makes it so much easier to unwind the nervous system! Allow their music to reach into the depth of your soul. Soothe the stress and return the energy of peace and serenity to you. Find their music on all your favorite music streaming services just by googling David and Steve. And if you are searching for a way to begin your spiritual practice, reach out and schedule a complimentary Spiritual Makeover call with me. Thanks again for listening. As someone who's been thinking a lot lately about writing a book myself, Steve was able to dispel some tired myths for me. Writing books is hard. He's interviewed over 185 world-class entrepreneurs on “The Unstoppable CEO Podcast.” Steve and his team help smart entrepreneurs go from being the best-kept-secret in their industry to being "The Person Who Wrote the Book" in 30 Days. Books have long been associated with authority and thought leadership. "He wrote the book on it", "She wrote the book on it" - that's how we describe a true expert in a field. "Consultant, author and speaker" is the byline for many thought leaders, and even the word "author" is the major part of authority. But writing a good, valuable, and useful book is a difficult, time-consuming process. Or is it? In this episode, Steve Gordon and Alastair McDermott discuss why a book is the gold standard of authority building, why outlines are so crucial, and how to write your book in 30 days. They also discuss the mistakes most authors make when writing, how to use a book as a referral tool, and how a podcast can help create strategic relationships. “I had to write several more books to figure out what I was doing that allowed me to write them so fast. We started refining that process, and now our clients are getting them done in about 90 days. That's about 30 days of dedicated writing, 30 days of getting it ready to publish and publishing it, and 30 days of promotion and launch.” -- Steve Gordon on The Recognized Authority podcast “As an expert who does really complicated and intangible things for your clients, a book is a great way to let them sample ahead of time. They experience what it would be like to work with you, because they're interacting with your thinking.” -- Steve Gordon on The Recognized Authority podcast
