March 5th, 1993. A day that will live in infamy. On that date, Sir Nicolas Cage, Lord Samuel L. Jackson and director/activist E. Max Frye... solved... racism. Yes indeed. They did it with the help of a little film called Amos & Andrew (not Andy). You might doubt these claims, you might find them dubious... but need I remind you of the power of film. Indeed, Sir Mix-a-Lot said it best in the film's title theme when he declared "I may not look like Beaver but you don't either." Next week: Good God, we've been threatening this one for a while. Send us a textHONKYTONK MAN TGTPTU continues to play its old hits with Episode 5 of Season 14, its redux series season celebrating five years and don't you worry about us, hoss, we'll get through this pairing of Eastwood flicks starting with HONKYTONK MAN (1982).  Originally discussed toward the end of the epic run covering all of Clint Eastwood's filmography (Season 3, Episode 12), founding cohosts Ken and Jack invite the show's newer hosts Ryan and Thomas in to session with fresh ears and silver tongues on this adaptation of the Dust Bowl era, vaguely veiled retelling of the final years of country wester legend Jimmie Rodgers novel by Clancy Carlile adapted by him and Eastwood into a semi-comedic bildungsroman road trip movie.  Two years prior to the creation of the PG-13 rating by the MPA (né MPAA), this Eastwood-directed and starring flick brings in Eastwood's own son Kyle, roughly 14 years of age at the time, to play the nephew of a singer/songwriter who gets into all kinds of trouble with his honkytonk uncle man, from underage driving to poultry theft to jailbreaking and whoring (procured, not proffered) and contact marijuana highs and hit song composing between f-bombs and s-words and statutory rape.  Original ep guest Patrick drops in with some words of encouragement before the gents figure out on mic that this movie was Ryan's other rewatch flick pick and the show gets on the road with recently promoted host Ryan having things to say about the music scoring; Thomas checking facts like a hockey enforcer checks bodies on the ice; Ken having a spell during which he actively hallucinates Eastwood wearing his hat backwards and suppresses coughs; and Jack, staying mostly awake for this retirement home movie that borders on a “lead paint flick” designation, brings the low energy by the bushel. Also of interest, pod fav Tracey Walter appears “right chair” in the movie and “black pill” is the word of the day.  Find out what these four have to say now that the dust has settled and chickens come home to roost and learn why this Depression Era coming-of-age and one final hurrah adult-teen road trip movie with musical act interludes might be one of the least watched of Clint Eastwood's films.   CONTENT WARNING: The hosts say the titular “h word” a lot. THEME SONG BY: WEIRD A.I.Email: thegoodthepodandtheugly@gmail.comFacebook: https://m.facebook.com/TGTPTUInstagram: https://instagram.com/thegoodthepodandtheugly?igshid=um92md09kjg0Bluesky: @goodpodugly.bsky.socialYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6mI2plrgJu-TB95bbJCW-gBuzzsprout: https://thegoodthepodandtheugly.buzzsprout.com/Letterboxd (follow us!): Podcast: goodpoduglyKen: Ken KoralRyan: Ryan Tobias

Send us a Text Message. On this 85th episode of Fabulous Film and Friends we are going to connect the dots between three seminal cautionary tales from the 80's: 1984's Repo Man directed by Alex Cox and starring Emelio Estevez, Harry Dean Stanton, Olivia Barash, Jennifer Balgobin, Dick Rude, Tracey Walter, Sy Richardson, Vonetta McGee, Richard Foronjy, Tom Finnegan, Eddie Velez, Del Zamora, Zander Schloss, Fox Harris and Jimmy Buffet. Then 1987's River's Edge directed by Tim Hunter starring Keanu Reeves, Crispin Clover, Ione Skye, Daniel Roebuck, Joshua John Miller, Josh Richman, Roxana Zal, Jim Metzler, Tom Bower and Dennis Hopper and topped off with Robocop, also from 1987 and starring Peter Weller, Nancy Allen, Kurtwood Smith, Miguel Ferrer, Paul McCrane, Ray Wise, Jesse D. Goins, Felton Perry, Del Zamora, Dan O'Herlihy and the inimitable Ronny Cox.  I'm Gino Caputi and returning to the program to break down all this cynicism and disaffected young adulthood are my sister Roseanne, the lit major, Joe Field, the author/hypnotist and back again after a long fitful stint in suspended animation, the photobug and funny man Gordon Alex Robertson!Okay before we suit up and start taking names, the synopses: In Repo Man, Otto, an LA punk, gets fired from his job as a grocery clerk but finds his true calling when a tough-talking stranger named Bud convinces Otto to join his team of auto repossession agents. Bud, Otto and the entire network of the repo men run into an existential crisis when a mysterious car that has a reward of 20k is believed to have an alien in its trunk.  River's Edge is loosely based on true events and catalogues a turmoil of emotions or lack thereof that a group of teens encounter when they discover one of their friends, John aka Samson, has murdered his girlfriend while another friend, Layne, swears them all to secrecy.  Robocop looks into the future where the Detroit police are privately owned by a corporation called Omni Consumer Product. After Alex Murphy a brave but naive officer is killed in the line of duty by a ruthless crime lord named Clarence Boddiker, Murphy's body is given to OCP for a pilot program that transforms Murphy into a cyborg called Robocop. The program seems to work and Robocop starts cleaning the streets until he realizes all is not right in his programming and there are sinister forces that led to his creation, including a pact between OCP VP Dick Jones and Boddiker's gang.    Follow the FFF Facebook page!https://www.facebook.com/groups/fabulousfilmandfriends Watch the episode on Youtube:https://youtu.be/l7IVqxqb1hw

The Top 100 Project

We begin the 9th Annual Month Of Bev by chatting about a cult classic that features punks, Reaganomics and odd automobiles. Repo Man was Alex Cox's debut (Sid And Nancy came 2 years later) and it was also very early in Emilio Estevez's film career. The man who would basically stop acting in motion pictures about 15 years later is just okay here. He's joined in this sci-fi/comedy by veteran character actors like Tracey Walter and Harry Dean Stanton. The movie still touches Bev's Gen-X heart, despite a clunky middle section and an unsatisfying ending. This is a weird flick, but you have to admire that everyone involved embraces the weirdness. Well, maybe not Stanton. So drive your Chevy Malibu across the country---no matter what danger the trunk contains---and follow the code as our 560th pieces through Repo Man. To Be Clear...: Gary Oldman's co-star in Sid & Nancy is Chloe Webb (playing Nancy Spungen). Also, Sy Richardson WAS indeed one of the writers of Mario Van Peebles' Posse. Since repo men spend so much of  of their day waiting in cars, they could use Sparkplug Coffee. You can snag some of that with a onetime 20% discount. With Arnold Schwarzenegger's star rising in the early 80s, the Austrian bodybuilder filmed his first sequel, a follow-up to his 1982 role in the John Millius sword-and-sorcery epic Conan the Barbarian. Based on the works of Robert E. Howard, the Raffaella De Laurentiis production brought back Mako from the first film and introduced Grace Jones, Wilt Chamberlain, Tracey Walter, and Olivia d'Abo to the Hyborian Age. Written by two Marvel Comics authors, with less gore and more humor than the original, director Richard Fliescher stepping in for Millius, and creature effects by Carlo Rambaldi, the film was less financially successful than the first, perhaps overshadowed by Schwarzenegger's true breakout role in another film released the same year: The Terminator. Between the time when the oceans drank Atlantis and the rise of the sons of Aryas, there was an age undreamed of. The franchise was done in two, and hither came Conan… the Destoyer!    For more geeky podcasts visit GonnaGeek.com   You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. Bill manipulated us pretty effectively back in Episode 7 (https://quaidinfull.fireside.fm/16) of this season; how well did the sequel do? Power-hungry Queen Tamaris of Shadizar (Sarah Douglas), who offers Conan (Arnold Schwarzenegger) a bargain. Taramis will resurrect his dead lover Valeria upon completion of a special mission. He is to assist with the protection of her niece, a young virgin princess named Jehnna (Olivia d'Abo). Jehnna travels with her bodyguard Bombaata (Wilt Chamberlain), to venture into the mystical castle to retrieve a key in the form of a magic jewel called the Heart of Ahriman that, by prophecy, only someone who bears the distinctive mark like Jehnna can touch. This key will unlock a fabled horn that promises to bring the dormant 'dreamer god' Dagoth to the mortal realm.  The twist is that, at the end of the quest, Jehnna is a sacrificial offering to Dagoth, and Conan and his friends shall die as well.  These friends include the great wizard Akiro (Mako), the agile warrior Zula (Grace Jones), and Conan's comical sidekick, Malak, the thief (Tracey Walter). Richard Fleischer directs.

"Repo Man" is everything a cult film should be. It's set in an offbeat subculture (1980s Los Angeles punk), it focuses on a bizarre cast of characters (sleazy repo men), is driven by a memorable soundtrack (the aforementioned 1980s L.A. punk) and is full of quotable lines (including a monologue that makes the most of the words "plate," "shrimp" and "plate of shrimp."

It’s our 69th episode and we’re celebrating the milestone with “erotic horror comedy” OUT OF THE DARK!!! This slasher follows the phone fantasy operators of ‘Suite Nothings’ as they’re stalked and murdered by Bobo the clown. Out of the Dark was written by Zane W. Levitt & J. Gregory De Felice, directed by Michael Schroeder and stars Lynn Danielson-Rosenthal, the legendary Karen Black, Starr Andreeff & Cameron Dye. It has a wild cast of amazing supporting characters like Divine, Tracey Walter, Geoffrey Lewis, Karen Witter, Lainie Kazan, Tab Hunter, Marcie Leeds, Bud Cort and Paul Bartel! We freakin’ loved this movie.

May 2019 brings in a long-needed theme; Mint in Box. In other words, Corey (@coreyrstarr) and Jonathan (@berkreviews) decided to watch movies that they owned but had never seen before. In fact, it's this very issue that started the two to begin this podcast all those years ago. They own a bunch of movies, and while they've seen many of them. There are plenty of movies that were purchased with the intent to watch that still sit unopened. As far as the podcast goes, each episode features an in-depth review of the movie for the week. They begin with a spoiler-free review before diving in completely after the needed spoiler warning. However, before getting into the review of the week, Jonathan and Corey discuss what other movies they've seen since the last episode as well as anything else they feel like discussing. To help them decide which of the many films to watch each month they started creating themes for them all. Week 2 - Repo Man (1984) Week 2 Corey selected the 1984 Sci-fi, Crime, Comedy Repo Man. Jonathan added it to his collection recently after finding it at a flea market. The film stars Harry Dean Stanton, Emilio Estevez, and Tracey Walter and was written and directed by Alex Cox. The plot summary is "Young punk Otto becomes a repo man after helping to steal a car, and stumbles into a world of wackiness as a result." --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/berkreviewscom-moviecasts/support

Otto (Emilio Estevez) a young punk music fan falls into the tense life a car repossessor. When a mysterious 1964 Chevy Malibu comes up with a large reward, Otto is drawn into a world full of conspiracies, men in black, aliens and an array of crazy characters. Repo Man is glorious chaos captured on film. It co-stars Harry Dean Stanton, Tracey Walter, Olivia Barash and Sy Richardson. Listener favorite Arden returns with more kung fu! He joins Chris and their fellow movie buff Geraldine on a special episode recorded during the summer break. While Paul slumbered in his hyperbaric chamber, the 3 intrepid friends attempted to sit through a Chuck Norris film, The Octagon. Arden gives a shoutout to star & martial artist Ernie Reyes Jr. who joined our chat room in a previous episode. Should we watch The Big Brawl some time? Chris & Geraldine recently went Turkey Shoot to watch Snakes on a Plane. A very bad film featuring Farrah Fawcett and disgustingly old Kirk Douglas as lovers in space? Ew, just ew, Saturn 3. The Octagon also came out the same year as Xanadu. What’s exactly going on in this film? Arden wonders if we’re watching Naked Lunch. Geraldine is pretty sure that Chuck Norris wrote the Wikipedia page for The Octagon. Master of picking up ladies, the character A.J. is played by Canadian actor Art Hindle. Chuck’s fighting style lacks, style. “I hit you. You fall down now.” Chris is missing Jet Li. Oh hey! Look it’s The Master, Lee Van Cleef! And there’s a very brief Ernie Hudson. It’s Seikura, not Shakira, Chris. What a great character actor, Tracey Walter. Seikura’s main bro is like an imperial royal guard from Star Wars. Ninja ranking in the film seems to be based on flair? By this rationale, Liberace is a grand master. It’s like an episode of America’s Funniest Home Videos, all Chuck does is hit people in the privates. Look out! Shakira has Kusarigama! Arden wants to watch Caveman. Chris watched Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films and wants to see Invasion U.S.A.. Arden recommends The Delta Force and Geraldine says listeners should check out Barbarella. It was a lot of fun to get together in the same room, watch the film and record the show. Though, we missed Paul’s trademark hilarity! Be sure to check out one of Arden’s projects, Prairie Noodle Shop. When the restaurant is complete it will be worth the trip to Edmonton. Trust us!
