With high temperatures moving through the US, multiple regions are preparing for gas and power price volatility. Gas supply constraints or cooling demand could result in power demand spikes. Data centers have been increasing power and gas requirements in some areas, power generators have been competing for gas supplies with LNG terminals along the Gulf Coast, and high gas storage levels in Southern California could lower gas and power prices from past summers. Americas gas editorial lead J Robinson and senior power editor Jared Anderson discuss these factors in the natural gas and power market outlook for summer 2024. How can you overcome resistance to change? Overcoming resistance is often a key factor in achieving greatness, whether that means excelling in your career, creating a work of art, or achieving a personal goal. Resistance can take many forms, such as self-doubt, fear of failure, or a lack of motivation. However, by recognizing and overcoming these obstacles, you can tap into your full potential and create something truly great. One of the keys to overcoming resistance is to develop a growth mindset. This means embracing challenges and setbacks as opportunities for learning and growth, rather than as indications of failure. It also means focusing on the process of creating, rather than solely on the outcome. By shifting your perspective in this way, you can take on challenges with greater resilience and creativity, and view obstacles as opportunities to learn and improve. Today, I am flying solo to talk about my experience joining the J Robinson Intensive Wrestling Camps and how that experience made me learn the importance of overcoming resistance. In this episode, I will take a look back at the moment I heard true resistance for the very first time and how I learned the benefits of quieting our monkey minds. Topics include: What I experienced joining the J Robinson Intensive Wrestling Camps The first time I heard true resistance What I learned from J Robinson about resistance Quieting the monkey mind to overcome resistance And other topics… Resources mentioned: The War of Art by Steven Pressfield: https://stevenpressfield.com/books/the-war-of-art/ Connect with Darius: Website: https://therealdarius.com/ Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dariusmirshahzadeh/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imthedarius/ YouTube: https://therealdarius.com/youtube Book: The Core Value Equation https://www.amazon.com/Core-Value-Equation-Framework-Limitless/dp/1544506708 Learn more about your ad choices. Have you ever tasted something so good, so fresh that you can never go back to your old ways of eating? That's how I feel about olive oil. And today, I'm excited to share this culinary revelation with you for just $1. But let me take you back to where it all began. The first time I went to Italy, I experienced fresh olive oil for the first time. It wasn't that I had never tasted olive oil before in the States, but the difference was profound. I was savoring olive oil made fresh from olives grown on the property we were staying at, in Ravello, off the Amalfi coast. It was an unforgettable experience, and I knew I couldn't go back to store-bought olive oil, so I ended up shipping six bottles of it home. The same thing happened to T. J. Robinson, also known as the Olive Oil Hunter. He also had a transformative encounter with olive oil in Italy. He discovered that olive oil packs the most flavor and health benefits when it's fresh from the farm. That's the issue with typical supermarket olive oils—they lack freshness, sitting on shelves for months and growing stale. Known for his “platinum palate,” T. J. is one of the few Americans invited to serve as a judge in prestigious Italian olive oil tasting competitions and he knew he was the one to solve this problem. And so he did! That's when Fresh-Pressed Olive Oil Club was born. And now you and I get to experience our plive oil from small, award-winning farms, thanks to T. J., our guest on today's Food Heals podcast. When I tasted T. J.'s farm-fresh oils, I fell in love with their vibrant, grassy flavors. They elevate salads, veggies, pasta, and make exquisite salad dressings. Today, T. J. is dedicated to importing rare fresh-pressed olive oil, the most flavorful and healthiest extra virgin olive oil available. Until now, obtaining such quality year-round in the U.S. has been nearly impossible. Rest assured, all of T. J.'s oils are independently lab-tested and certified for 100% purity. The freshness, flavor, and health benefits of this just-pressed oil will astonish you ... it will utterly blow away any olive oil you can find in the U.S. And that's for one simple reason: This is fresh-pressed supreme extra virgin olive oil—raced here by jet straight from the olive harvest and it's independently certified to be 100% pure extra virgin. As an introduction to his Fresh-Pressed Olive Oil Club, T. J. offers a remarkable opportunity. For just $1, you can receive a full-size $39 bottle of one of the world's finest artisanal olive oils—fresh from the new harvest. This offer isn't tied to any commitment to purchase anything, now or ever. Ready to taste the difference freshness makes? Morgan J. Robinson argues that the portability of Standard Swahili has contributed to its wide use not only across the African continent but also around the globe. A Language for the World: The Standardization of Swahili (Ohio UP, 2022) pivots on the question of whether standardized versions of African languages have empowered or oppressed. It is inevitable that the selection and promotion of one version of a language as standard--a move typically associated with missionaries and colonial regimes--negatively affected those whose language was suddenly deemed nonstandard. Before reconciling the consequences of codification, however, Robinson argues that one must seek to understand the process itself. The history of Standard Swahili demonstrates how events, people, and ideas move rapidly and sometimes surprisingly between linguistic, political, social, or temporal categories. Robinson conducted her research in Zanzibar, mainland Tanzania, and the United Kingdom. Organized around periods of conversation, translation, and codification from 1864 to 1964, the book focuses on the intellectual history of Swahili's standardization. The story begins in mid-nineteenth-century Zanzibar, home of missionaries, formerly enslaved students, and a printing press, and concludes on the mainland in the mid-twentieth century, as nationalist movements added Standard Swahili to their anticolonial and nation-building toolkits. This outcome was not predetermined, however, and Robinson offers a new context for the strong emotions that the language continues to evoke in East Africa. The history of Standard Swahili is not one story, but rather the connected stories of multiple communities contributing to the production of knowledge. The book reflects this multiplicity by including the narratives of colonial officials and anticolonial nationalists; East African clerks, students, newspaper editors, editorialists, and their readers; and library patrons, academic linguists, formerly enslaved children, and missionary preachers. The book reconstructs these stories on their own terms and reintegrates them into a new composite that demonstrates the central place of language in the history of East Africa and beyond. A leader is the one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way. It has been said that the best way to secure a bright future for the next generation is to share our stories, wisdom, and experiences so that they can learn and grow from them. Hence, our responsibility is to pave the way for success and illuminate the path for others and provide them with the resources they require to forge their paths. Therefore, we must seek to make a difference in our fields of expertise and strive to bring less of ourselves and more of our calling. However, to do such things, we have to grasp our ultimate passion and purpose. For instance, doctors can make a significant impact in medicine and healthcare by addressing health disparities. Physicians can close the gap and ensure that everyone, regardless of socioeconomic status or cultural background, receives the care and support they require to achieve the best possible health outcomes. Hence, it can be done by providing culturally competent care and promoting health equity. Consequently, it often requires us to acknowledge and close existing gaps in our service and make room for improvement to serve our communities better. Making it our goal to reach and bring hope and care, most importantly, to our community's vulnerable populations. Our guest speaker says, "We have to ensure everyone has a fair opportunity to be as healthy as possible." Dr. Derek J. Robinson is a husband, father, board-certified physician in Emergency Medicine, and author of the new book Improbable MD: From the Bayou to the Board Room. He is vice president and chief medical officer at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, a Health Care Service Corporation division – the nation's largest non-investor-owned health insurance company. From an early age, Dr. Robinson has been driven to make the world a better place for others, especially for the marginalized. He attributes his career success and ability to overcome life's obstacles to the support provided to him by others along his journey. As a physician executive, Dr. Robinson has been a champion for weaving equity into business priorities to advance financial returns and health outcomes. Over the years, he has brought together diverse stakeholders to align a focus on health equity, develop business incentives to catalyze action and share best practices across organizations for durable change. In this special episode with Dr. Derek Robinson, we will discover the humbling story of an inspiring man who deeply cherishes the privilege and responsibility of being a physician and having the opportunity to be part of somebody's healing. He has a thirst to engage with individuals and inspire others to be their best in whatever path they seek. Be enthralled by the essential lessons he learned that helped him surmount the pressures, hesitations, obstacles, and limitations he encountered and get him to where he is today. "You need to have the energy, fire, ability, and willingness to be a good leader to go forward. But you also need to ensure that your experience is less about you and more about what you've been called to do." – Dr. Derek Robinson Topics Covered: (00:00:00) Introduction + Episode Snippet (00:00:41) Introducing our special guest, Dr. Derek Robinson. It's being empathetic, having a vision for the future, and building a level of trust with other individuals such as they will follow you forward even when the path ahead has some uncertainty embedded in it." – Dr. Derek Robinson "I immensely cherish being a physician and caring for patients. It's a responsibility and opportunity like none other." – Dr. Derek Robinson "There were some things that were beyond the reach of the hands of medicine and health care that needed to be addressed. Those things would require work in the space of advocacy and policy and the like." – Dr. Derek Robinson "There are some ways that we can contribute uniquely outside of direct clinical care, and that's not to diminish direct clinical care. We certainly need to have individuals providing great care to our patients." – Dr. Derek Robinson "We are ensuring that everyone has a fair opportunity to be as healthy as possible."– Dr. Derek Robinson "When you're in a position where you can make a difference, you want to be prepared to make that difference and do the right thing that's going to help improve health outcome." – Dr. Derek Robinson "The pandemic demonstrated to us how fragile the state of health for our community was." – Dr. Derek Robinson "We have to be humble enough to appreciate that our system of care does not deliver services to patients in a uniformly fair fashion." – Dr. Derek Robinson "There are some challenges that bump up right against the health care delivery system that create some unfair barriers to patients." – Dr. Derek Robinson "We're not infallible; we are humans. Thus, we bring to our workplace our lived experiences, and those can come with positive and negative biases that can impact the health of our patients and the care that we deliver." – Dr. Derek Robinson "If we approach it from the assumption that there is no gap, then we don't provide ourselves with an opportunity to ensure that the work that we're doing collectively as a health care team is advancing equity for the patients and the communities that we serve." – Dr. Derek Robinson "We have to be concerned about the health of everyone, not just globally but also locally in our community." – Dr. Derek Robinson "I've always taken those opportunities to be engaged in outreach and support in the community because I gained so much from the generosity of others along my journey as well." – Dr. Derek Robinson "There was a thirst to engage with individuals at scale and to help share my story as a way of helping others be their best." – Dr. Derek Robinson "If we're going to ensure that people who are coming behind us have the tools and resources that they need to be successful, we've got to figure out how do we tell that story in a way that allows them to relate to it and learn from the lessons that we've experienced along the way." – Dr. Derek Robinson "Individuals will share with you their successes and their challenges and their failures if you ask them." – Dr. Derek Robinson "It's best to learn lessons from the mistakes of other people than having to learn those lessons the hard way on your own." – Dr. Derek Robinson "There are some lessons you can't afford to learn the hard way because when you learn them, the implications are irreparable to your career. David Martin Davies continues the story of East Texas voting rights advocate Frank J. Robinson who died in 1976 under mysterious circumstances.
Frank J. Robinson's wife, Dorothy Robinson, remembers the moment she saw Frank's ghost and learned the important message he brought from the grave. Also, Robinson's courtroom ally Dave Richards, Gov. Ann Richards' former husband, explains how Robinson ended anti-Black gerrymandering and how the public inquest over Robinson's death was a farce.
When East Texas voting rights advocate Frank J. Robinson died under mysterious circumstances in 1976, his death was first called a murder. However, then officials said it was a suicide. This is a true crime story that deals with voting rights, violent racism and jusitce.
Gary J. Robinson is a legend in the British Drum & Bass scene. Today he's the mastermind behind the inventive project "THE DEATH BEATS" merging styles like D&B, Folk and Synthwave. In earlier stages of his career Gary was involved in very renowned projects such as "RareForm", "PoisonFlow" and some others. He worked for Goldie's "MetalheadZ" label and founded a couple of influential record labels. Today - besides his work as an artist, label owner and playlist curator - Gary is also an expert in Sync licensing and other aspects of publishing which are sometimes neglected by artists. In the interview with him we're talking about his exciting biography in the Drum & Bass scene which started on a Commodore Amiga home computer, but we're also covering some interesting aspects in regard to distribution, licensing and playlist submission services. This makes this episode very rewarding to listen to for every active electronic music producer and/or self-publisher but of course most of all for dedicated fans of "THE DEATH BEATS" Music played in the episode: RareForm: Spinechilla https://open.spotify.com/track/4qw1qetuHZbPeb0SO8r0NY?si=3c439f7a057f48bc PoisonFlow: Fear of Mind Giving Way https://open.spotify.com/track/617NM9GWNcC7hltRqPdPzn?si=91a286e5615946b9 The Death Beats (feat. Do you struggle with depression? Do you have dark days or maybe someone in your family does and this is a reality that you live with? This week on the podcast, Sarah J. Robinson and I discuss her book, *I Love Jesus, But I Want To Die. I think sometimes we think that if we have faith, we will not struggle with depression. But that is not true. I am so thankful to Sarah for vulnerably sharing her struggle with depression and suicidal thoughts as well as offering hope to those walking through their darkest days. I believe her story will also give hope to those who have a loved one who struggles with depression. It is National Suicide Prevention Week and I think this is a great time to bring voice to this important subject that is not always talked about much. We talk about finding a therapist and overcoming shame in this episode. Honestly, my favorite part is the loving words a couple spoke to Sarah in her greatest time of need. We can all learn so much for the wisdom and truth shared. Also, I am so excited for someone to win a copy of Sarah's book, *I Love Jesus, But I Want To Die. All the details of the book giveaway are on my website at jodirosser.com or you can click this direct link: https://jodirosser.com/giveaways/i-love-jesus-but-i-want-to-die-book-giveaway/ Therapist Finder: Psychologytoday.com The American Association of Christian Counselors Last year during National Suicide Week, I spoke with Kayla about her book, *Fear Gone Wild: A Story of Mental Illness, Suicide, and Hope Through Loss. Robinson once believed her lifelong battle with depression made her a bad Christian. Now she's an author and speaker who helps others discover that mental illness doesn't disqualify them from living rich, beautiful lives in Christ. Drawing from a decade of ministry experience and the mental health field, Sarah helps readers fight for wholeness and cultivate joy. She lives in Nashville with her husband. In this debut book, Sarah offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. She shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in your deepest anguish. *Note: If you are interested in purchasing this book or the books recommended, I would love for you to use the Amazon Affiliate link above to help support the podcast. Episode 2 of the Guillotine Grapevine heads to the Bierman Athletic Building on the campus of the University of Minnesota as we talk with Minnesota head wrestling coach J Robinson and assistant coach Brandon Eggum. Robinson briefly talks about his contract extension that will keep him coaching the Gophers at least through the 2019 season. There's also a short debate on who's mustache actually rules Minnesota -- Robinson's or the one worn by two-time World medalist Andy Bisek. Eggum and Robinson talk a little bit about the schedule and events coming to the Sports Pavilion this winter and what to expect from the Gopher starting lineup this year.
