Small businesses will thrive by partnering with micro-influencers, while big brands will focus on creating customer connection through experiences like giveaways and exclusive trips. AI will shift from optional to essential, transforming how businesses operate. Branding will embrace personality as Gen Alpha steps into the spotlight, with their preferences shaping the market. Transparency will be non-negotiable—consumers will demand clear information, especially about ingredients and sourcing. Ever thought about turning your passion into something more? In this episode of The Happy Hustle Podcast, I had the pleasure of chatting with Jeff Ditsworth—a guy who not only tackled this dream but absolutely nailed it. Jeff's journey is packed with insights for anyone looking to turn a passion into a profitable side hustle while still rocking a full-time career. As an executive in financial risk management, Jeff could've easily stuck to the typical path, but instead, he built Pescador on the Fly, an eight-year-strong business offering high-quality, packable fly fishing gear. Let's face it—building a side hustle while juggling a demanding job isn't for the faint of heart. Jeff didn't start big; he built Pescador on the Fly piece by piece, staying focused on his mission. During our conversation, he shared some key principles that helped him keep everything balanced: effective time management, problem-solving, and, most importantly, the power of relationships. Jeff shares the importance of identifying and solving problems in business—something every entrepreneur needs to master. The fly fishing world didn't have packable, premium gear options that wouldn't break the bank, so he set out to fill that gap. That's what all successful businesses do—identify a need, then solve it. But Jeff doesn't sugarcoat it; building an e-commerce business brings its own unique challenges, from managing supply chains to keeping up with customer expectations. With a full-time career and a side hustle, Jeff has learned a thing or two about time management. He shares the power of building strong relationships and having a solid network—people who support you in both career and personal life. Jeff also stresses the importance of involving family in business. Not only does it keep things fun, but it also builds a strong support system that helps you stay balanced. We also tackled a topic that's close to my heart: maintaining well-being while hustling hard. Jeff emphasized that you don't have to burn yourself out to succeed. Instead, consume good information, stay disciplined, and above all, pursue what lights you up. For Jeff, that's building a brand that gives anglers what they truly need. For you? It might be something entirely different, but the principles remain the same. So, if you're ready to balance ambition and well-being, this episode is for you!In this episode, we cover: 04:46 The Journey of Pescador on the Fly10:12 The Importance of Problem-Solving in Business14:59 Navigating E-commerce Challenges19:57 Building a Strong Network for Success25:01 Balancing a Side Hustle with a Full-Time Job30:16 Innovating the Fishing Rod: El Rey36:19 Navigating the Challenges of Entrepreneurship43:38 Family Involvement in Business51:13 Final Thoughts on Entrepreneurship and Happy HustlingConnect with Jeffhttps://www.facebook.com/pescadoronthefly/https:// https://www.instagram.com/pescadoronthefly/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHCBlUYXVrx227W-szYmJ8Ahttps://www.twitter.com/PescadoronflyFind Jeff on this website: https://pescadoronthefly.com/Connect with Cary!https://www.instagram.com/caryjack/https://www.facebook.com/SirCaryJackhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/cary-jack-kendzior/https://twitter.com/thehappyhustlehttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFDNsD59tLxv2JfEuSsNMOQ/featuredGet a free copy of his new book, The Happy Hustle, 10 Alignments to Avoid Burnout & Achieve Blissful Balance https://www.thehappyhustle.com/bookSign up for The Journey: 10 Days To Become a Happy Hustler Online Course https://thehappyhustle.com/thejourney/Apply to the Montana Mastermind Epic Camping Adventure https://thehappyhustle.com/mastermind/“It's time to Happy Hustle, a blissfully balanced life you love, full of passion, purpose, and positive impact!”Episode Sponsor: Magnesium Breakthrough from BiOptimizers https://bioptimizers.com/happyIf you've been on a restricted diet lately or maybe even taken some meds to shed those pounds for the summer, I gotta warn ya—be careful! Episode #511: Chelsea Piers Leadership: Greta Wagner on Culture and Customer Connection

HALO Talks

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 23, 2024 31:33 Transcription Available

Greta Wagner is a seasoned fitness industry veteran with over four decades of experience in the HALO (Health, Active Lifestyle, Outdoor) space. A current Board Member of the Health & Fitness Assocation (formerly IHRSA), and Executive Director of Chelsea Piers, her journey began at the age of 16, when she started teaching what used to be called "aerobic dance." After a decade-long hiatus in the golf industry, her return to fitness was marked by a pivotal realization: The sector had seen little growth and was still grappling with engaging the same 80% of people who do not participate in regular exercise or attend fitness clubs. Her career reflects both her adaptability and enduring passion for promoting a healthier lifestyle.  Greta shares her invaluable perspectives on fostering inclusivity, broadening communication, and the significance of a positive work culture that transcends beyond just having state-of-the-art facilities. Also discussed are the pressures of athleticism on young kids, branding excellence of Chelsea Piers, and innovative ideas for advocacy in the health and fitness sector. We'll hear about the challenges of maintaining client attention, and the evolving landscape of video and streaming technology. Finally, we'll look at leveraging competition and technology to drive member engagement and success. This episode is packed with valuable insights from an industry veteran on leadership, resilience, and the collective effort required to drive meaningful change in our space.  On workplace culture, Wagner states, "I can't dictate what company culture is gonna be. I can hope what our culture is gonna be. We can say 'this is what our strategic plan is to make our culture,' but it's our actions, and it's how we live our lives in every moment while we're working together, playing together, socializing together, and our principles and core values. If you stay true to those and you hire the people who believe in those core values and can live it . . . that will resonate. In my opinion, that is everything."  Key themes discussed IHRSA (and the industry's) challenges during the pandemic. 10-year summer camp experience, impact of sports. Workplace culture, branding, employee focus, values. Private, non-institutional company, unique KPIs. Monitoring retention and valuing employee contributions. The evolving role of the Health & Fitness Association.  A few key takeaways:  1. Greta emphasizes that a positive and inclusive work culture is crucial for any business's success, especially in the HALO space. She illustrates this by highlighting Chelsea Piers' commitment to their core values and how it translates into meaningful connections with customers and a happy, long time, dedicated workforce. 2. She emphasizes the importance of open conversations, organization, and effective messaging to address societal and political divisions. Enhancing communication and education within the club environment can foster unity and collective growth. 3. Both Moore and Wagner stress the significance of offering a variety of sports to children, rather than early specialization. This approach helps in reducing pressure and optimizing overall athletic development, allowing kids to explore various interests and skills. 4. Pete asks about leveraging the large membership base of clubs collectively for advocacy efforts. Collecting a small contribution per member per year, as Pete suggests, could significantly bolster financial capabilities for important advocacy initiatives at local, state, and federal levels. 5. Greta discusses the resilience of Chelsea Piers during natural disasters, highlighting the collaborative effort of employees and members to rebuild the property. This underscores the solid and caring culture of the company, which is pivotal in navigating crises like the COVID-19 pandemic. Her Gypsy years allowed for crazy adventures and unique jobs giving her the skills and confidence to work in any setting and relate to a multitude of personalities and professionals. She spent 13 years traveling the world as a backpacker, sailboat captain, and dive instructor. In 2006 Leah began work in the new home sales industry managing leads, setting appointments, and assisting with new home sales for a large local builder in Virginia Beach. It was here that she developed her first online sales program with metrics reaching to 32% of the overall sales for that builder, at a time when the industry standard was 20-25%. She often joked that her non-existent Customer Relationship Management software (CRM) was put together with bubble gum and duct tape. The Gypsy naturally thrived in this role and was intrigued with the relationship building that is necessary to be successful in online sales.  Her writing skills played a key role in her travels as she worked freelance for magazines and newspapers and these skills continue as an important part of her duties in writing custom campaigns, website copy, and relevant blogs.Realizing that falling for a military man meant her wayward gypsy wanderings would continue, only now dictated by the whims of the Army, Leah then went on to start Blue Gypsy Inc. in 2010 working with builders, developers, and real estate related businesses as she developed a proven Online Sales System along with her very own Online Sales Process.Since 2014 the Blue Gypsy has focused on Online Sales Training for builders across the country to help them improve their sales and the way they handle digital leads. What is Echo Salesmanship? Sales Legend Ben Gay III Explains on The Closers Inner Circle Podcast Today we are opening up The Closers, PT 2, Page 135 to 'The Grand Canyon Response'. An echo salesmanship response involves mirroring or repeating keywords or phrases that the potential customer has used during a sales conversation. It's a technique aimed at building rapport and making the customer feel heard and understood. By echoing their words, you show that you are actively listening and that you comprehend their needs and concerns. For example, if a customer says, "I'm looking for a reliable and efficient solution," an echo salesmanship response could be, "So, you're really focused on finding a solution that's not only reliable but also highly efficient. Is that correct?" This repetition helps in reinforcing the customer's priorities and can create a more engaging and personalized interaction. The key is to use this technique naturally and not make it seem forced or robotic. It's about demonstrating empathy and building a connection by reflecting the customer's language and sentiments. And according to Ben, mastering this sales technique can be daunting, but is very helpful during the sales process for you AND the customer/prospect.  Find us on the web: Denise Griffitts | Denise Griffitts LinkedIn | Ben Gay III LinkedIn | The Closers Books | Your Partner In Success Radio
