Life has many struggles, but with a champion, someone who will walk and talk, we have someone who reminds us of our progress and gives us hope. I was recently talking with someone about the struggles in their life. We had walked many a mile together over the years. As we talked, I asked if they remembered how they were five years ago. We actually rated some of their feelings. Five years ago, it was a 9 out of 10 struggle, but now it was 2 out of 10. They looked up with a sense of realization. Things had actually changed. Some of the issues they faced back then hadn't changed that much, but many of them had. From this, they took a great deal of encouragement, and I did too. For them, the deepest parts of their journey had not been seen by many. They didn't want others to know. But there were a few special people, such as myself, that they had let into their private dark hole. In my eyes, they were a superhero. Very few went where they went. Now they were strong in ways unimaginable a few years ago. Noticing the progress Have you ever been to a forest, and all you see are the trees, the obstacles, and maybe a faint path to follow? Your attention gets consumed by what is all around you. You forget about how far you've come. Sure, you might feel it in your body. Aches and pains, but all you know is the depth and darkness of the forest. That is until you climb a hill, or there is a break in the trees, and you can look back and see how far you've come. You're amazed at the progress from placing one foot in front of another—one millimeter at a time. There is a saying, ‘You can't see the forest for the trees. ‘ I would also say you can't see the progress for the trees. The depth of the present struggle is so all-consuming that there is no pause to take in the wonder of where you've come from. A champion walking alongside us invites us to take a break, have a sip of water and celebrate the progress. I think it's so important to have people in our lives that in various ways, can lift us out of the daily battle with the trees, the brush, and the weeds. They point out how far we have come and offer us a perspective about where we are going. Then it's back to the millimeter by millimeter bush-bashing through the shrubbery of weeds and wilderness. There can be loneliness to this journey. One of the features of many people's journey is loneliness. You feel that no one is there with you. Possibly you might have friends and family, but there you are with your happy mask because you don't want anyone else to know the deep struggle you're going through. So you're alone. You may have reached out, been dismissed, felt overlooked, and disregarded. No one gets you. You wonder why you're so self-focused. Isnt that selfishness? Surely others have it worse off than you.  Maybe they do, but actually, you don't know. Your journey is your journey. You trudge on seeing the trees, the weeds, the struggle. The champion in your family There is an interesting little verse in the Psalms. God places the lonely in families Psalm 68:6 This is not so much a family of mum, dad, and the kids. More so, it is a nest of relationships where we can call home. I have a champion in my family nest. Actually, I might have more than one. This is not someone who has a big shiny winners cup but more so someone who desires to champion me. A champion is someone who supports or defends a person or cause. Think of these champions Martin Luther King and the civil rights movement Nelson Mandela and the Anti-apartheid movement Kate Shepherd and the women's suffrage movement Bill Sinclair and his support of John Bishop Mary Smith and her commitment to her friend Jenny Bertland You probably don't know the last two champion names on the list. I don't know them either. They are fictitious. I made them up. But you probably do know people like them. People who walk alongside someone and encourage them when they can't see the forest for the trees. They can't see the progress for the weeds. We all need a Mental health champion. I recently had a champion share some very kind words with me. It filled my heart like a breathe of fresh air fills the lungs. I sucked it in and let it seep in deep. They weren't trite words. Instead, they were words crafted out of a known awareness of being in a battle themselves. They knew the walk and so could talk the walk. I needed that. Into the pool room – my encouragement journal – went their words.   I believe we all need people who will regularly come alongside and pour words of life into the dry and parched areas of the soul. People who have taken the time to watch and listen. Friends who will champion us as a person of great worth and value. Let's walk and talk We need more Bills and Marys to walk and talk with Johns and Jennys. Champions. We have a mental health crisis, and I believe much of it could be addressed by people learning how to walk and talk. Sharing some wisdom, crying together, laughing. Reflecting on progress made in life because there were simple conversations and words of encouragement. I wonder what would happen if all of us would say to one other person, I want to walk and talk with you and be your champion? Why Midlife Belly Fat is Common and What to Do About It – Listener Q & A

The Flipping 50 Show

Play Episode Listen Later May 7, 2021 29:09

This episode: Why midlife belly fat is common, and it’s a common question for me to answer. I’ll comment on that below. First, it’s a sign, a symptom, not a sentence. What you’re doing isn’t working. More of that is not going to work. What causes it, is hormonal changes. A loss of estrogen and increase of cortisol. Insulin resistance A lower level of testosterone and growth hormone (sleep disruption) But beyond that, we’re responsible, or will be when we’re informed. You can do something about it. We often resist the changes that are suggested until we pay for change. I’m giving you the answer right here! Changing Habits is Hard And, change is hard. So if you need support… the 10-day Hot, Not Bothered Challenge is open for enrollment. We start June 1st, but you can start right away. I’ll give you some exercises and some content to listen to so that you get the best possible experience when we do start. The exercise will be more comfortable and you’ll mentally be more ready. The link flippingfifty.com/hnb-challenge will be in the show notes. The Answer And the very thing we say, “I’m doing the same thing I’ve always done and it’s not working” is the clue. Your hormones have changed. Your exercise and nutrition and lifestyle health habits also need to change. In many cases lifestyle health habits have changed. How? Women who gain weight naturally try to eat less and exercise more. You increase your stress level, your blood sugar levels are up and down, and your insulin and cortisol will together increase fat storage at the midsection. You’re drinking more wine than you did 10 years ago. You’re enjoying more coffee or caffeine in other ways than years ago. Starbucks and Bulletproof, and mushroom coffee all became sexy. You’ve got more to do than ever before so you’re not prioritizing sleep or if you are, there’s so much on your mind you’re not actually sleeping. Add hormone symptoms to that like night sweats and insomnia and ouch, right? Proof Why Midlife Belly Fat is Common but NOT Absolute Some of those things explain perfectly why, when 100 Million women in a study (ACOG 2019) proved there was NO correlation between menopause and weight/fat gain, we do, you did. We’re causing them. It’s not all your fault if: you’ve been in the dark about this you struggle with the habit gravity that is real Decades of conditioning about how to get fit, lose weight, tone up… won’t disappear for you overnight. But you can still do it. So how can you support yourself best? First…. Please watch my TEDx talk if you haven’t. It will explain a few things. Next Use This Checklist: Caffeine is limited to 2 cups and done by 10am You eat a high protein meal in the morning You do not exercise fasted (high intensity exercise) You skip the wine until you have improved your belly fat You do far more strength training than cardio You lose endurance cardio completely (no more hour long+ sessions) You do more movement (walking, nature, golfing, SUP) You fuel your body for exercise so you increase what you burn Low intensity exercise fuels best with protein and or fat High intensity exercise fuels best with a bit more carb plus protein Post workouts you get at least 30-40 grams of protein You prioritize relaxation and sleep What Not to Do about Why Midlife Belly Fat Struck You! Why would you expect the same exercise to work when you no longer have the same hormones, body composition, and metabolism as you did when you were younger? Why would you expect doing more of the same thing that ISN’T even giving you a hint of good results would help more? One more reason why midlife belly fat is common … Trainers are still giving exercise prescriptions that are “functional” They’re still focused on “corrective” exercise They’re still using research based on young male subjects to design your program They’re often either: pushing you – to injury or coddling you – to no progress at all You do need intensity. You just need it based on hormone balancing exercise. You need it based on research that is inclusive of your hormones, your kinesiology, your physiology, and your psychology along with your time restrictions and preferences. It's kinda vulnerable to admit that you struggle with anger. I did that today. Because it's been a struggle for me. And I believe that as a community when we share areas of our own weakness we can encourage and exhort others to pursue more Christlikeness together. So I admitted that I've struggled with anger this past year.A friend once told me that anger is a secondary response. When we are offended, betrayed, hurt, or sad that's the initial feeling and then it goes to anger. It's been going there pretty quick lately. I'm not proud of that. Here’s what angers gets us, it damages trust. It causes anxiety, it leads to loneliness and it damages self-esteem. You won't have to look far in the book of Proverbs to find so many examples of instruction what to do with our anger. But it was the encouragement of Ecclesiastes 7:9 today that gave me a challenge and rebuke: Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools.I don't want to be a fool. I certainly don't want to be an angry fool. Anger isn't just a momentary second response. I believe that we leave it unchecked, not submitted it to the Spirit, it does reside with us, it becomes easier and easier to respond with anger. So today my prayer is simple.Father God, you have given us the perfect example ".. you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness." help me to be more like you. Amen.

Hey my friends! I’m Hayley Hobson and I’m so glad you’re here!  Welcome to the Whole You Podcast where I share tips to help women like you implement healthy hacks and habits so you can eat smarter… rest better, and get it ALL done.  Today we’re gonna talk about how crazy the internet is… And I don’t think this is really gonna be an unpopular opinion but… the online world is a noisy place these days.  It’s not enough just to be online anymore, you have to actually be FOUND by your clients and customers, right?  But being found? It’s no easy task.  Here, let me drop some stats on ya... just to paint a picture. On any given day…Google does 63,000 searches per second. PER. SECOND. Ok maybe that doesn’t sound so bad… but here’s what it translates to. 3.8 million... searches per MINUTE... That’s 5.6 BILLION... searches per day. Yup, with a B. Which means… at least 2 TRILLION searches per year. And I bet you've never thought about HOW Google serves up the results to you in a fraction of a freaking section, have you? You’re more concerned that it does it FAST, am I right? LOL So here’s another little fun fact… there are over 200 factors that play into what shows up the instant you hit ENTER. That’s some complicated coding going on in the background… And you know what? Getting on Page 1 of those results is important…  ...because 95% of web traffic comes from the first page of the search results...  Which means just 5 freaking percent comes from anything on page 2 or later. AND -- check this out -- the majority of people don’t even bother to get past the FIRST FIVE RESULTS ON PAGE 1.  I know, I know… I just threw a lot of numbers at you and your head is probably spinning… but the point is… if you wanna get found super quickly and easily on the internet? You wanna be highly ranked in Google. So -- if you could somehow hack that algorithm to show up at the top of page 1…  To soak up all that secret sauce? Well, that’d be worth a pretty penny, don’t you think? And here’s the deal. You can. The place to start is 3 little letters: S - E - O.  There are entire companies dedicated entirely to SEO… It’s literally that important. So knowing all this… it can be a little overwhelming. I GET IT. That’s why I’m so excited to be chatting with my guest today, John Vuong, an SEO expert who knows how to refine, clarify and AMPLIFY your brand and get it found online. He’s the Founder and President of Local Seo Search, a boutique agency entirely focused on the SEO game. He’s here to break down SIMPLE ways you can start improving your own SEO… without dropping bucket loads of cash on it. He’ll share some of the secrets big brands know… so you can get all the insider info that they spent years and tons of money into figuring out. Because entrepreneurs? It’s important that we understand SEO… and how it plays into getting super clear on who are are… who we serve… and what we offer. Because I promise you. If you stay super high level… and you think you’re for everyone… SEO is gonna be tough for you. So we’re gonna dig into how entrepreneurs can use SEO techniques so we get found… and make more MONEY. That sounds awesome, right? John’s gonna help us get there… working with business owners like you and me is HIS JAM. So let’s get started! Welcome, John... Hey John, welcome. I’m so excited to be chatting with you today! Could you introduce yourself briefly to our listeners and give some insight into your background, how you got here, and what you do? Okay now let’s dig on into some biz tips. For those who aren’t as familiar, can you tell us briefly what SEO is and then I’d love to know what advice you have for how biz owners can take advantage of it to get their businesses FOUND online? What is the most common mistake you see brands making when it comes to getting their businesses found online? How do small businesses and entrepreneurs can get found on google when they're up against major competitors with a ton of money to put toward SEO? In the Wild Wild West that is the internet, how do we go about differentiating our brand from everything else that’s out there? What does that process look like? Do you have any other closing tips for amplifying our brand, maybe in the areas of sales and relationship-building as I know you consult with companies on that? John, how can people connect more with you? Do you have a website or social account you’d like to share? Well, my friends, I hope you all learned as much from John as I did.  Do you feel a little smarter about your biz now? I know I do. SEO is crazy important, right? I’m super pumped after chatting with John! Let’s get your businesses out of the DARK back pages of the internet, lol!  I’d love to hear from you on Instagram, TikTok, or Clubhouse - share with me some of your biggest takeaways from today. My DMs are open, lol. And as important as SEO is… it’s kinda hard to land yourself on the top 5 results of page 1 after listening to just one podcast episode. I WISH it were that easy… There’s a lot that goes into it… Like John shared, getting crystal clear on your brand foundations is a major part of the SEO puzzle… And it’s just one step in the process of smashing your success goals. So if you’ve struggled a bit in your biz… or your head is now spinning from all the knowledge dropped on ya today… I’ve got the cure. First… take a deep breath. Right now. You got this. Second… you’re gonna want to go step by step. Baby steps even. Bite-sized chunks is the only way you’re gonna actually make it happen. Unless you’ve got a gazillion dollars to drop on a huge team of experts. I’m gonna assume that ISN’T you. (But I wish it were!) So the first baby step is to come up with a plan. You need a roadmap to know where you’re going, right? You’ll find one inside Your Whole Biz… This is a course I recently decided to reopen because I saw so many people struggling with getting found online -- or heck, even GETTING online. Your Whole Biz gives you everything you need to know about stepping up your game by going online… Whether you’re brand new to the idea or if you’ve got a biz with a bit of an online presence. You’ll get value from it. The course is basically all of my learnings from the past, oh I don’t know, decade, of experience condensed in one place for you. I used a specific set of online marketing strategies to take my passion for health and wellness and turn it into a multi-million dollar division of my existing business.  I'll teach you how to do the same thing with your business. You know, the other day I was hanging out in the private Your Whole Biz community group and Danielle popped in to say that she learned more from this course than she did a 6-month mastermind… And you KNOW those are pricey… What’s funny is I was putting this episode together… which is obviously all about search and Google… and she said that Your Whole Biz offers clear instructions and  resources -- so you don’t have to Google anything. It’s all right there in the course. Because as we just learned… Google is a JUNGLE. There’s a whole lotta information out there, so it takes a ton of time to find everything you’re looking for. Especially if you want to learn how to grow your biz online. And like Danielle says… with Your Whole Biz -- you don’t need to Google.  Everything you need to know is right there in the course… and it’s super clear, easy to follow, and with all the resources you need to get started NOW. But here’s the thing: You need to register for this course right now though because we won’t be doing an open registration for a while.  The place to go is https://www.hayleyhobson.com/yourwholebiz. Don’t worry about catching that right now… I’m dropping the link in the Show Notes and this week’s newsletter.  Registration is only open until April 13th so do your future self (and your biz) a favor and get in there. I hope to see you inside! Okay friends, I’ll see you online.

Welcome to the Green Mountain State, lovely, liberal . . . haunted!!Our guest is to ghost-stories what Ben and Jerry are to ice cream – Vermont’s resident ghost-writer-in-chief, Jennifer McMahon. Her new novel, The Drowning Kind takes us back to the small towns, local stores and eerie histories typical of her fiction, but with an added turning of the screw – it’s not the house that’s haunted, it’s the pool out back. If that sounds cheesy, it ISN’T. The Drowning Kind is an alternative type of ghost story – how alternative, and whether what lurks in the pool is even a ghost – are both subjects we dive into. Jen tells me about why she finds such darkness in Vermont’s pleasant green hills, and I get very excited to talk to someone about the state’s folklore! Oh, and there are index cards. Many, many index cards. For the technique-geek, or the aspiring novelist, this is some serious insight into the creative process of a master plotter. As promised in the show, here is some further detail on her system. Enjoy! The Drowning Kind is out from Gallery Books on April 6th. Other books we discussed include: The Invited (2019), by Jennifer McMahonThe House Next Door (1978), by Anne River SiddonsThe Haunting of Hill House (1959), by Shirley JacksonWe Have Always Lived in the Castle (1962), by Shirley Jackson“The Monkey’s Paw” (1902), by W. I think we would all secretly love to have the moment where we make a historic speech that everyone remembers, but on second thought, it's may not always be the best thing.Danny Gokey, one of artists here at KCBI, shared this idea: "Speak when you're angry and you'll give the greatest speech you'll ever regret." When we speak while we're angry, we have the opportunity to etch a moment in time on someone's heart: our kids, our friends, even a stranger. But the great thing is God believed this was an important lesson because the Bible has so much to say on how to navigate these moments."A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." - Proverbs 15:1"Do you see someone who speaks in haste? There is more hope for a fool than for them." - Proverbs 29:20Bottom line: Be slow to speak and quick to think. There's wisdom in that.

Professor Kenneth Stanley is currently a research science manager at OpenAI in San Fransisco. We've Been dreaming about getting Kenneth on the show since the very begininning of Machine Learning Street Talk. Some of you might recall that our first ever show was on the enhanced POET paper, of course Kenneth had his hands all over it. He's been cited over 16000 times, his most popular paper with over 3K citations was the NEAT algorithm. His interests are neuroevolution, open-endedness, NNs, artificial life, and AI. He invented the concept of novelty search with no clearly defined objective. His key idea is that there is a tyranny of objectives prevailing in every aspect of our lives, society and indeed our algorithms. Crucially, these objectives produce convergent behaviour and thinking and distract us from discovering stepping stones which will lead to greatness. He thinks that this monotonic objective obsession, this idea that we need to continue to improve benchmarks every year is dangerous. He wrote about this in detail in his recent book "greatness can not be planned" which will be the main topic of discussion in the show. We also cover his ideas on open endedness in machine learning. 00:00:00 Intro to Kenneth 00:01:16 Show structure disclaimer 00:04:16 Passionate discussion 00:06:26 WHy greatness cant be planned and the tyranny of objectives 00:14:40 Chinese Finger Trap 00:16:28 Perverse Incentives and feedback loops 00:18:17 Deception 00:23:29 Maze example 00:24:44 How can we define curiosity or interestingness 00:26:59 Open endedness 00:33:01 ICML 2019 and Yannic, POET, first MSLST 00:36:17 evolutionary algorithms++ 00:43:18 POET, the first MLST 00:45:39 A lesson to GOFAI people 00:48:46 Machine Learning -- the great stagnation 00:54:34 Actual scientific successes are usually luck, and against the odds -- Biontech 00:56:21 Picbreeder and NEAT 01:10:47 How Tim applies these ideas to his life and why he runs MLST 01:14:58 Keith Skit about UCF 01:15:13 Main show kick off 01:18:02 Why does Kenneth value serindipitous exploration so much 01:24:10 Scientific support for Keneths ideas in normal life 01:27:12 We should drop objectives to achieve them. As the world collectively holds its breath right now, let's talk about 3 things: deciphering truth from fiction, operating underground, and resiliency. Listen to the podcast episode by pressing the play button on the black bar above. All episodes are linked under the podcast tab that you can find way at the top of this post in my menu bar.  You can also listen and subscribe to my Farmish Kind of Life podcast at all popular podcast players.    1 . The ability to decipher truth from fiction: Back in October 2020, my messenger suddenly blew up one day with people asking if we were going to sell our Harley because they saw some picture posted on social media that showed Harley-Davidson was endorsing Biden/Harris for presidency. Okay. You guys. First off, people had no idea who I was voting for, or if I even planned to vote at all. Secondly, the image was photoshopped. I wrote more about this in But First, Read This. But I get it. Sort of. It’s hard to decipher truth from fiction. The internet and more news channels and forums and chats were supposed to make us more informed. What it’s really done is, is made it harder to find actual information. In the past couple weeks, especially, people have emailed me with "facts" and "evidence" and "information" about their version what’s happening in the world. I’ve started saving all these, screen-shotting lists, taking notes on articles so in four months I can look back and see what things people were spreading around before the inauguration—on all sides. I won’t even say “both sides” anymore because there are plenty of things coming from outliers who don’t agree with the two party system. We see something online that fits with our agenda so we share it out of the need to "educate people with the truth". We see something online totally against our agenda and we share it out of frustration. Most of us don’t even click on the link to read the article. We share headlines—and it just so happens there are articles attached to them. We didn’t read them and the people we’re sharing it with aren’t going to read them. It's. not. helping. We see something the other side has shared and we think “how in the world can they believe something like that, it’s totally not true” when in all reality, you’re probably doing the same thing. The crazy thing is that we think the other side does it and we don’t. And we've all done it. I like sharing this meme on social media when things get a little dicey out there, and people start dividing based on assumptions or "fact": (Please contact me if you know who originally posted this and I will credit them.)   Assess all information. Consider all options. But take the time to consider that marketing is everywhere and it’s possible to spin any story to fit the purposes you want it to fit. And the bigger the topic is, the more people will do it—without even realizing it. Evil is a loaded word. What you think is right and just and the way things work is oftentimes what someone else would describe as wrong and immoral and unjust. Having pointed out that caveat, I’m not saying permit evil. I’m not saying ignore evil. I’m just saying make sure you know what you’re looking at and where it came from. 2. Operate underground Here’s what I mean by that: I’m visual and it’s easy to look outside at the world and see a giant mushroom cloud. Ooo! Shock! Awe! Big explosion! And that giant mushroom cloud is clouding the view of everything else. It’s destroying our ability to see anything else. And a mushroom cloud probably isn't the best example to use, because if we’re talking a mushroom cloud from a big ol bomb, there probably ISN’T anything else going on because it HAS decimated everything else. But work with me here. What I’d like you to consider is there are a lot of regular ol' people going about their lives outside of that giant mushroom cloud doing really great, productive, wonderfully kind things.

It's something a lot of us say to each other and to ourselves these days, but quite honestly, it's not very helpful and it may shock your system to hear this. It's not especially helpful, it's marginally helpful, when we say during tough times, "The Lord is still on the throne" or "The Lord is still in control." Now I'm not saying it's not true. It's definitely true and can be helpful as we try to deal with these macro-level, worldwide issues to give a sense of peace. But if I'm hurting on personal level and dealing with a tragedy, the most comforting thing to be told may not be "The Lord is in control." This isn't because God isn't in control, but because there's an even deeper truth about who God is. It may be a little helpful to know that he's in control, but it's even more powerful to realize that he personally knows that suffering as he was on that cross. There is no suffering that we go through that God can't identify with. There was cosmic grief on the cross when he was literally separated from his father God for the first and only time in the history of his continued existence. So know that you are not alone because the God that sits on throne is same the God that hung on that cross and knew suffering so that we could know true freedom.

Without knowing your name, where you live, or what your story is, we probably have something in common: We probably both have jobs, which means you can relate to this topic. These days, we're probably a lot more grateful for our jobs than we've been in the past but no matter how grateful we are, those jobs can still be a grind. When we are having tough days, why we are doing the work becomes really significant and because of that, we have a story. There we're 3 laborers who all did the same job but each we're asked what they did. When the 1st laborer was asked, he said "I'm making a living." That's all he said. When the 2nd laborer was asked, he said "Well, I drag heavy stones for a living." But when the 3rd laborer was asked what he did, he said "I'm building a cathedral." You see, they all have the same job, but when asked what they do, each had a different response with a different purpose. The meaning of our work is a whole lot less about what we do and more about why we do it and who we're doing it for. If you're a Christian, no matter what you're doing, you're doing it for him and you're literally building a cathedral.

WOMEN SIPPING ON LIFE (with doctor shannon) | Stop Drowning | Start Sipping | Daily Inspiration | Hope | Certainty | Abundanc

First, are you believing something that ISN’T true? We all have a S.O.L. STORY (although it may not be so sacred), of someone who’s wronged us, told us a lie, wasn’t honest or truthful. Disappointing, right? It can be devastating to a relationship. But what if that relationship is between your own heart and soul? Are you telling yourself, and believing, the truth? I’m sold out on truth (popular or not) for the following reason... It’s the only thing that I’ve been able to stand on in the most devastating times, greatest loss, hardest, and most painful experiences. Truth and the knowledge of it have allowed me to live, stand, grow, and heal in freedom. I desire this for everyone I know and love, including you. My desire is that you know the truth. That you know what you believe, and why you believe it. To be able to ask questions, expose the truth and the lies. In all of my years as a Chiropractor, Healing Life Coach, and working with people, I’ve found that the ones who get the greatest breakthroughs are the ones that are willing to know the truth, and make decisions based on that truth. If not, it’s like standing on a slippery rock, and trying not to fall. Even though truth isn’t popular. It’s the only thing that’ll allow you to stand and live in freedom. When you have truth you can put your trust in something that’s solid. In my SIX SACRED S.O.L. DATE SECRETS or AGREEMENTS, I’ve shared this TRUTH about truth… If it can’t be interpreted at least two different ways, it’s probably not true. How you see it matters. However, no matter how you look at a mountain, it’s still a mountain. If your truth isn’t allowing you to get what you desire, live the life you desire, and create the life you long for…then it’s time to look at that “mountain” in a different way. Do you see possibility? Where there’s truth, there’s possibility. It gives you the opportunity to start making decisions. What are you going to choose? The truth or not? A lie will always disempower you. It’s a one-way ticket to disaster. Are you willing to start looking at all the beliefs you have in your life, and asking what’s true for you? Expand. Grow. Live. In freedom. Find the TRUTH, and you’ll become unstoppable. Please grab your SACRED S.O.L. D.A.T.E. JOURNAL (Daily Action To Engage yourself.) TODAY’S SACRED S.O.L. STEP: Be honest. Is there any area of your life that you feel as though you’re not empowered? Is there a story in your mind and heart that says you’re a victim, you can’t, or “POOR ME”? Expose it. Write it down. Lee LeFever is todays guest joining us on the inspired Join Up Dots business podcast. He has a belief similar to us at Join Up Dots, whereby he believes that more often than not big enough is good enough when it comes to online business. He's inspiring entrepreneurs to rethink business success and design businesses to be intentionally small, scalable, and focused on a healthy quality of life. As he says "I'm fortunate that doing something I love has become my career. In 2003, I founded Common Craft, which is recognized worldwide as starting the “explainer movie” movement, and it has employed me as a media maker ever since. More than anything, I am a writer. Sometimes my words become scripts for Common Craft videos, chapters in a book or issues of a newsletter. Other times, they're used for mediocre attempts at humor in text messages. I wield my words with great care and benefit from having my wife, Sachi, as my editor.   How The Dots Joined Up For Lee Most people consider me personable and easy-going. I smile a lot, maybe too much. My natural setting is optimistic and generally happy, with a side of anxiety. If we met in person, I would ask you a lot of questions. I try to live my life with great intention and a focus on quality. To me, this means remaining in control of my time and being willing to take risks and accept trade-offs in order to craft the life I want. Isnt that what everyone wants in life and in business. Have you taken your temperature lately? Most of us think a normal temperature is 98.6 degrees. However, if you were to take your temperature now – it probably ISN’T 98.6. This episode begins with an explanation of why that is. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2020/10/201028171432.htm Could it be you are not as smart as you think you are? Apparently so according to David McRaney author of the book You Are Not So Smart (https://amzn.to/2tGvPTq). David explains some of the interesting quirks and flaws of the human brain that make us think the way we do – that also makes our perception quite inaccurate a lot of the time. I bet you’ve wondered if it helps to pay your credit card bill early. Well, if you carry a balance it does. I will explain a simplified version of the math to show you how. You may not get rich from doing it but it certainly worth knowing and can save a fair amount of money over time. https://www.bankrate.com/finance/credit-cards/pay-credit-card-bill-early-and-save/ How long will you live? It’s important to grasp this because there are ramifications to the question for you, your parents and your children. Longevity continues to rise and with that comes the good and the bad. Dr. Laura Carstensen, professor of psychology and public policy at Stanford University is founding director of the Stanford Center on Longevity and author of the book, A Long Bright Future (https://amzn.to/2KqrvPe) offers up so fascinating insight into how wonderful it is to be living so much longer than our ancestors – and why perhaps the best is yet to come.
