It's a positive that e-tron sales improved from September, but they didn't increase by much. I’ve been driving an EV since 2015, and friends, family and colleagues are always asking questions. My brother, my Dad and my boss have all made the switch, and many more people I know are considering it. They all have questions and want to chat about it.   JON KNODEL My biggest surprise of owing a EV is that it came very natural and felt more “normal” then a combustion vehicle. All the worry of getting use to it faded away almost as instantaneously as my EVs torque. One thing that made the transition so much more seamless is having strong car company and dealership support. Just like with you and the Zoe with the great dealership experience. Tesla, Rivian and Polestars business model’s are just as needed as real non-compliance EVs. The car companies and dealerships that are open to transform their business model along with EV’s have the highest chance of survival. So long story short my biggest surprise is how natural it feels.   RICHARD CHAPMAN but my two biggest surprises after buying my EV that I didn't expect were: 1) The realisation of how much I subconsciously hated going to petrol stations! 2) Becoming super-sensitive to the smell of fossil fuel exhausts, especially diesel.   Chris from Ann arbor Michigan here.  The biggest surprise I got when I switched to a full EV instead of a gas powered or plug-in electric what's that I became more sensitized to how dirty and how smelly average cars are.    JERRY LEVY - I can sleep in my Tesla with climate control I miss the smell of gasoline (petrol) when refueling my gas car. - If you drive uphill and then downhill, you use almost no electricity thanks to the regen.   MALCOLM CONNAH I think it has to be the lack of servicing required, and over the longer term the reliability. My 5 year old 50,000 mile Leaf has only required a number plate bulb. I hope my new model 3 is the same. Selling the golf, now all electric after over 3 years of planning and saving!   DUNCAN What surprised me, when I first started EV driving, was the corruption that surrounded the charge-points issue. Early charge-point companies were just taking from their buddy politicians the £1,000 for installation of each point, and then had no interest in the point working - in fact, their business model relied on most of their points not giving electricity.   JOHN FRUHWIRTH My biggest surprise owning an EV are a couple of persistent feelings it leaves with me. These are serenity and bliss. The serenity comes from my lowered stress level while driving my EV The bliss comes from the excellent ride and tech my EV gives me.     QUESTION OF THE WEEK The MYEV.com Question Of The Week…   What do you prefer, the carrot or the stick? Production - 5000 for Europe   TESLA WILL STOP SELLING MODEL S AND X CARS WITH 75KWH BATTERIES The Model S and X just got a whole lot more expensive, said the headlines today. Which might be if you look it a certain way. "Elon Musk has announced that his company will stop taking orders for the 75kWh versions of the Model S and Model X after January 13th. He didn't directly explain the move, but said "yes" when a Twitter user asked if Tesla was moving away from its longstanding use of battery capacity numbers to denote variants." reports Engadget: "If the starter Model S and X models disappeared with no rough equivalent in place, that would raise the starter prices by $15,000 or more, to $84,750 (from $66,750) and $87,950 (from $72,950) respectively." But why do that? Could it be they just weren't selling many of them? Would they prefer a base S & X buyer to buy a top spec'd Model 3 because they make more margin? Tesla are unquestionably better at making cars now. com say they have a possible answer: "The most logical reasoning for the discontinuation is that Tesla is taking down its 75 kWh pack line to upgrade to a cheaper/more efficient architecture that can handle the V3 Supercharger. Since the 100D’s are Tesla’s highest margin vehicles, Tesla will be able to decrease their cost substantially because Tesla no longer has to cover the lower margin 75D’s in its sales mix." writes Dan Zorilla. My thought: they need to update the S& X, both inside and out, plus under the skin. Carry on making 100kWh packs for now, and change some 18650 production at Giga to 2170. Then introduce a Standard Range and a Long Range S & X. The lines will be more efficient, Tesla will make a better margin, the cells will charge quicker and the largest pack size could go to something like 120 or 125kWh. So it's 2019 now and time for race 2, in Africa and Marrakesh. At the first race there was rain in Saudi Arabia and confusion over how to race by the new rules, so it confused the pack a bit. This weekend we'll see who is real out ahead. We'll see the debut of former F1 star Pascal Wehrlein too.   It's 8am Pacific, 11am Eastern and 4pm UK on Saturday.   FORD SAYS FORMULA E AN OPTION FOR THE FUTURE Mark Rushbrook, global head of Ford Performance Motorsports, told Motorsport.com that FE was "still on the sheet of paper we are looking at" as it considers an entry into what he called "electrified motorsport". His comments come a year after Ford was engaged in high-level talks with FE and appeared close to signing up for the series. Rushbrook insisted that there is "still room" for Ford on the FE grid even though it will hit its 12-team, 24-car capacity with the arrival of Porsche in season six in 2019/20.
