In this episode of Find Your Finish Line, I'm joined by Paul Kaye, a longtime broadcaster whose career spans radio, live events, and announcing at IRONMAN races around the world. Paul shares how commitment has been a steady force throughout his life and career, and why endurance sports have a way of bringing clarity during periods of change. We talk about setting goals, revisiting them over time, and how endurance challenges can help create focus, discipline, and forward momentum. We also discuss how endurance sports often become more than just training or racing. For Paul, they became a framework for staying grounded, building resilience, and reconnecting with what matters most. His experience highlights how powerful a clear “why” can be when pursuing long-term goals. The conversation also touches on Paul's work as an IRONMAN announcer, the importance of honoring athletes' stories, and how he manages the balance between travel, performance, and personal well-being. This episode is about consistency, perspective, and using endurance sports as a tool for growth both on and off the course. John Schoen, Senior Clinical Manager of Evidence-Based Medicine and Drug Information in Vizient's Center for Pharmacy Practice Excellence and Vizient's vaccine subject matter expert, joins host Stacy Lauderdale to discuss key updates to the CDC's childhood Immunization schedule and what they mean for practice. Guest speaker: John Schoen, PharmD, BCPS Senior Clinical Manager of Evidence-Based Medicine and Drug Information Vizient Center for Pharmacy Practice Excellence Host: Stacy Lauderdale, PharmD, BCPS Associate Vice President Vizient Center for Pharmacy Practice Excellence Verified Rx Host 00:00 — Introduction Announcer welcomes listeners to Verified Rx, produced by the Vizient Center for Pharmacy Practice Excellence. 00:14 — Episode Overview Host Stacy Lauderdale introduces the topic: updates to the CDC's U.S. Childhood Immunization Schedule, revised January 20, 2026. Goal of the episode: explain what changed, what didn't, and what it means in practice for providers, pharmacists, and families. Guest: John Schoen, Senior Clinical Manager of Evidence-Based Medicine and Drug Information at Vizient and vaccine subject matter expert. 01:16 — What Changed in the CDC Immunization Schedule CDC reorganized the schedule into three recommendation categories. Vaccines were reclassified, not removed. Number of diseases covered under “routine” recommendations decreased from 17 to 11 due to recategorization. 01:50 — Stated Rationale Behind the Changes Rationale provided in executive summary of scientific assessment. The supporting scientific assessment is available online and referenced for transparency (link in resources below). 03:19 — Were Any Vaccines Removed? No vaccines were removed from the CDC schedule. Some vaccines were shifted into different recommendation categories. 03:40 — Category 1: Routine Childhood Vaccinations Vaccines still routinely recommended for all children include: MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) Polio Tdap / DTaP Hib (Haemophilus influenzae type B) Pneumococcal HPV Varicella (chickenpox) 04:27 — Category 2: Vaccines for High-Risk Populations Vaccines recommended for children who meet specific high-risk criteria: RSV monoclonal antibodies (mAb) Hepatitis A Hepatitis B Quadrivalent meningococcal Meningococcal group B Dengue 05:19 — What Changed vs. Stayed the Same Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and quadrivalent meningococcal moved from routine to high-risk RSV mAb recommendations are effectively unchanged, as high-risk infants are defined as those born to mothers who did not receive the maternal RSV vaccine. Dengue remains risk-based. Meningococcal group B remains a mix of risk-based and shared clinical decision-making. 06:31 — Category 3: Shared Clinical Decision Making (SCDM) Defined by ACIP as an individualized decision made jointly by provider and parent/guardian. Allows vaccination when risk-based criteria are not met but benefit is still considered. 06:52 — Vaccines Under SCDM Vaccines now include: Influenza COVID-19 Rotavirus Hepatitis A Hepatitis B Quadrivalent meningococcal Meningococcal group B 08:05 — What's New in SCDM Influenza and rotavirus moved from routine to SCDM. Hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and quadrivalent meningococcal also shifted. COVID-19 moved to SCDM in September 2025 for individuals ≥6 months. 08:28 — Insurance Coverage Implications No expected changes in coverage. Vaccines recommended by CDC as of December 31, 2025 remain: Covered without cost-sharing under Affordable Care Act (ACA) plans. Covered by Medicaid, Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and Vaccines for Children (VFC) program. 09:14 — Impact on Pharmacy Vaccine Access Pharmacists are considered healthcare providers under CDC SCDM definitions. Authority to administer vaccines primarily determined by state laws. Standing orders, protocols, and collaborative practice agreements may need to be updated, as applicable, to address language related to ‘routine' immunizations for children. 10:27 — Recommendations for Providers & Organizations For providers: Become familiar with schedule changes. Be prepared for patient and parent education. Recognize differences between CDC and other professional guidelines. For organizations: Review EHR documentation and order sets. Consult local state regulations to ensure compliance with vaccine administration practices. Review standing orders/protocols and collaborative practice agreements to determine if revisions are needed. Monitor vaccine utilization and adjust inventory accordingly. 11:24 — Resources & Closing Additional CDC and Vizient resources will be linked in the show notes. Announcer closes with subscription and feedback reminder. Ellen Adair and Eric Gilde discuss the 1992 film "Mr. Baseball." They introduce the film (1:07), with an overview of the story, the cast, and filmmakers, and review the 20-80 baseball scouting grades for rating the film, with a new metaphor (5:31). Amount of Baseball (14:02) has a good variety, and they contrast the unnecessary Yankee stadium with the real Japanese baseball stadiums, plus the Frank Thomas appearance and a player comp. Baseball Accuracy (19:52) is strong, although the MLB and NPB do not trade, and you shouldn't bring your top hand over. A dive into the shuuto pitch (Yu Darvish, Aaron Nola, Shohei Ohtani) and Ricky Davis's debut (Frank Thomas, JP Arencibia). There are timeline issues with MLB/NPB seasons and the Dodgers series, there are problems with Doc the Agent, the nightmare as a hitter's nightmare, and some poor scouting practices. But there are fun references to the hotfoot tradition (Roger McDowell?) and John Kruk. A brief history of the Chunichi Dragons franchise and their most famous player Michio Nishizawa, plus Larry Doby, Don Newcombe and Matt Stairs. NPB home run records include discussion of Sadaharu Oh, Randy Bass, Tuffy Rhodes, Alex Cabrera and Wladimir Balentien. Cultural differences between Japanese baseball and American baseball, including facial hair (Bob Horner, Eric Thames), the "Gaijin strikezone," extra innings, and the cap-tipping tradition (Osamu Higashio, Dick Davis). Also the Brett Myers/Kyle Kendrick prank, Don Mattingly comparisons, and Tom Selleck's athleticism. Storytelling (50:30) discusses how a formula is good for reversals but bad for long scenes, the bunting trope in baseball movies, the film's cultural in/sensitivities, Cleveland/Nagoya comparisons, the bath scene, and problems with the Lame Romantic Subplot. The Score Tool (1:15:37) discusses this 1992 timepiece from Jerry Goldsmith, which slightly divides our scouts. Acting (1:19:18) considers the performances of Tom Selleck, Ken Takakura, Toshi Shioya, Aya Takanashi, and the baseball team ensemble. Neither Delightfulness of Catcher (1:26:08) or Delightfulness of Announcer (1:27:18) offer much. In Lack of Misogyny (1:27:56), they consider the believability of the Lame Romantic Subplot, Hiroko's own issues, and the repairing of the father/daughter relationship. But why does Hiroko like Jack? No spoilers on the following segments: Yes or No (1:40:23), Six Degrees of Baseball (1:44:12), Favorite Moment (1:45:26) Least Favorite Moment (1:47:44), Scene We Would Have Liked to See (1:49:42), Dreamiest Player (1:51:03), Favorite Performance (1:51:27), and Next Time (1:53:15). In this week's episode, Jess and Karli begin with a conversation about the Beckham family, using recent headlines as a lens to discuss how family dynamics, especially during the holidays, are often oversimplified and sensationalized when they play out publicly. They then address the Nikki Bella and Cooper DeJean dating rumor and examine why we feel entitled to explanations, fascinated by age gaps, and committed to speed over accuracy when it comes to celebrity news. Lastly, they break down a viral Flyers announcer hot-mic moment, looking beyond the shock value of what was said to talk about intent, accountability, and embarrassment.

Ellen Adair and Eric Gilde discuss the 2001 film "61*." They introduce the film (1:10), with an overview of the story, the cast, and filmmakers, and review the 20-80 baseball scouting grades for rating the film, with a new metaphor (5:51). In Amount of Baseball (14:41), they discuss the use of actual Mark McGwire footage, the strength of this tool throughout, and the impact of the authenticity. There is a player comp. Baseball Accuracy (20:39) starts off with discussion of Billy Crystal as Mantle's friend and "Rain Man" on set, and then delves into the history, talking about Ford Frick, Fay Vincent, and the asterisk itself, Roger Maris and Babe Ruth plate appearances, Maris and Mantle's relationship with the press, Pascual or Ramos, the imbalanced AL/NL in 1961, Babe Ruth breaking Ned Williamson's record, Maris trade rumors, Mantle running to first in three seconds, Joe DiMaggio Jerk-o-meter, Moose Skowron, Elston Howard, Billy Martin escapades, Maris signing an X on a ball, Rogers Hornsby, Casey Stengel and Mantle, the slick nickname, Mantle's arm injury, Hoyt Wilhelm and Tom Candiotti. Storytelling (54:16) considers everything added by the inclusion of the McGwire framing device, the function of Claire Ruth and Pat Maris in the story, the opening day scene, and the handling of exposition. There are a few small instances of Shakespearing. The scouts discuss the nuanced depiction of male friendship, the character of the media, the character of Bob Cerv, and the cinematography and lighting. The Score Tool (1:24:53) discusses the main theme, the volume of the score, and songs by The Ventures, Bobby Darin, and the Shirelles. Why TF is there a Lyle Lovett song? Acting (1:31:20) pretty much worships Barry Pepper, Thomas Jane, Bruce McGill, Michael Nouri, Richard Masur, Peter Jacobson, Seymour Cassel, Chris Bauer, Anthony Michael Hall, Christopher McDonald and Joe Grifasi, plus the rest of the ensemble. Delightfulness of Catcher (1:51:17) considers 17% of Yogi Berra and not enough Elston Howard. Delightfulness of Announcer (1:52:44) revels in both the accuracy and the high delight of the depictions of Phil Rizzuto, with all of his Rizzuto catchphrases and digressions, and Mel Allen trying to reign him in. Ellen has a (Rizzuto-esque?) digression into a comparison with "Eight Men Out." In Lack of Misogyny (1:59:51), they discuss Mantle's womanizing, and how it's tempered with Maris's point of view, consideration of Pat's perspective, and the existence of female fans. No spoilers on the following segments: Yes or No (2:04:31), Six Degrees of Baseball (2:07:28), Favorite Moment (2:08:09) Least Favorite Moment (2:11:04), Scene We Would Have Liked to See (2:12:52), Dreamiest Player (2:15:49), Favorite Performance (2:16:30), and Next Time (2:19:05). He opens up about the moment his life flipped, the grind that nearly broke him, and the fight world politics he had to survive to become one of the most recognisable voices in combat sports. Rob Ashton returns to unpack what AI is really doing to our writing and our brains. We explore why so much communication advice still rests on shaky pseudoscience, how AI can help us write better, and where it quietly makes us worse.Rob explains why human connection still matters more than ever, even as tools get smarter, and why “more information” often means less understanding. We also push into some uncomfortable territory: Is AI making us more productive, or simply flooding the world with text nobody reads?Along the way, we touch on the analog writing movement, why radical competency matters in the age of automation, and how to use AI creatively without letting it steal your thinking. If you care about writing, communication, or how technology shapes what we believe, this one's worth your time.Connect with RobRobAshton.comEmphasisLinkedInTwitter/XSubstackMentionedObsidianMeditations for Mortals: Four Weeks to Embrace Your Limitations and Make Time for What Counts Previous AppearancesNavigating the New Age of Generative Tech with Rob AshtonThe Invisible Medium with Rob Ashton
