This week's Open Mic guest is Errico Auricchio, chairman of the Consortium of Common Food Names. The European Union has been successful in negotiating trade agreements that prevent producers of certain foods from selling in those markets unless they're produced by EU member countries. Auricchio brought his family's tradition of producing fine cheeses to the United States in the late 1970's. Now, Wisconsin-based BelGioioso cheese, vineyards and other food companies are seeing limited access to global markets because of the EU's GI claims. Auricchio and other members of the CCFN are urging Washington to step up efforts to maintain global opportunities for American food companies.

Episode 12: Where is the Land in Landscape? “Where is the Land in Landscape?” investigates the histories of landscape painting in the canon of Western Art and assesses a few contemporary works of art that counter European modes of thinking about land, territory, nature and the environment. In the first part of the episode we cover historical painters working in Dutch, French, British and American landscape traditions. In the second part we at contemporary art including Cherokee artist Kay WalkingStick's paintings of place and space, the protest performance art piece Mirror Shield Project: Water Serpent Action at the Oceti Sakowin initiated by Cannupa Hanska Luger and Rory Wakemup, and Rebecca Belmore's Ayum-ee-aawach Oomama-mowan: Speaking to Their Mother. Can an act of defiance help to cultivate courage? My guest thinks so. An attorney by trade, Vince Auricchio is used to having the odds stacked against him, but this was personal. His daughter was about to undergo brain surgery and the reality of losing her was more than his heart could bare. But in a moment of defiance, Vince, a Christ follower, found the courage to win the fight of his life by relying on his faith and surrendering to the outcome. In this heart-felt episode, Vince gives us a behind the scenes look at what it’s like to balance being an attorney and taking care of his family emotionally, through his personal relationship with Christ. With unwavering integrity, both personally and professionally, his faith has made him a better man, husband, dad and friend, and given him an incredible capacity for listening and accepting others who have different points of view. © 2019 Mo Vear Visit: HumorMeWithMo.com Email: humormewithmo@gmail.com Facebook page HumorMeWithMo @BiteOfCourage on Twitter Mo on LinkedIn Bite of Courage on Instagram Trio Productions. Laura Auricchio of the New School in New York City wants us to take a new look at the Marquis de Lafayette -- you know, that French guy who helped George Washington kick some serious British booty? It seems that, while Lafayette's still quite a hero over here, he's not so well respected Over There. We'll tell you why.
July 21, 2015 at the Boston Athenæum. The Marquis: Lafayette Reconsidered is an "absorbing" (The Wall Street Journal), "sharp and moving" (Kirkus, starred review) biography of the Marquis de Lafayette, French hero of the American Revolution. Laura Auricchio looks past the storybook hero who cast aside family and fortune to advance the transcendent aims of liberty and justice commemorated in America’s towns, streets, and parks that bear his name. Auricchio gives us a rich portrait of the man, from birth to death a man driven by dreams of glory and felled by tragic, human weaknesses.
