The Author of The World in A Wineglass is here! Food & Wine executive wine editor and Travel + Leisure wine editor Ray Isle has been writing about wine and other adult beverages for over 20 years. You've also seen his byline in many publications, including The Washington Post, Time and Wine & Spirits. Ray has also collected all sorts of awards and accolades for his work, including three James Beard nominations for beverage writing. He makes the world of wine understandable and attractive. Ray is also the author of a beautiful new book called The World in a Wineglass. His first book is It is part love letter, part encyclopedia or wine Wikipedia, and part delightful guide to wine around the globe. But Ray is not your typical wine writer. In fact, he might be better known for his wine and potato chip pairings: barbecue chips and Zinfandel or spicy AF jalapeño or sriracha chips with a super acidic chilled white wine like Riesling or Grüner Veltliner. So, Ray is the perfect guide through this world of wine. In The World in a Wine Glass, he explains the difference between corporate-owned, mass-produced wines and the wine producers who grow their own grapes and make wines that reflect the place and vintage variations for a unique sip. He does this by comparing them to the difference between a Taco Bell taco and a taco made from scratch from your local taqueria. The wines that Ray chose for his book offers something more, stories, soul and a few surprises. Yet the world of wine and wine journalism is changing and from his vantage point, Ray has seen it all. So pop the cork, pour a glass and settle in for some great wine stories.

This episode is pretty special. Jason Gunn is one of New Zealand's most loved entertainers - and is the best storyteller we've had on the podcast. We talk about the incredible rise of the Son of a Gunn Show, what people get wrong about Thingee, life in the public eye, McDonalds Young entertainers, Dancing with the Stars, sideline Jase and the art of storytelling. And in the second half we talk about his heart attack, thoughts on mortality, family and the recent loss of his mum - and there are some incredibly special, emotional moments of connection. Jase is one of a kind. When he walks into a room - he makes it a better place. His energy is contagious. For Seamus and I, we grew up watching him everyday after school - and so to share his life story with so much depth was a really cool experience for both of us. This is Julian Hermano, co-creator of previous audio verse award winning series The Realm Tree: A story of how fairies get their wings. Last year, our series was among the winners in the categories of “Best New Story-based Production”, and “Best Storyteller” for our primary narrator, Madi Tozier. The second half of our series, episodes 17-30, were released during the eligibility period for this year's awards. Our audio series features actors from Avatar the Last Airbender, Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, Genshin Impact, and more. Our now completed 30 episode first season is available on podcasting platforms, start to finish. The tale takes place in Al'Idria, a fairy world consisting of six Realms surrounding the Realm Tree; a tree that stretches up to the sky. At the age of sixteen, fairies ascend through the trunk to earn their wings. Those who fail to reach the canopy remain wingless for life. For some, the stakes could not be higher. Our story follows the scrappy and determined Night Fairy Talia Wick, the only fairy in history that was born without magic in her body. By the second half of our series, Talia has become friends with an ancient beast spirit, and is learning to use her borrowed dark magic to lead her friends in reaching the top of the Realm Tree to finally earn their wings. It has been a rigorous struggle of near death experiences, and fairies hunting their own. And there is still so much more to learn about the secrets of the Fairy world… This is Episode 20: Daybreak. After a close encounter with a violent beast spirit and the mysterious fairies nicknamed “The Jewel Hunters”, Talia and her friends have less than a day left to reach the Tree's apex. They'll meet a new friend, and face one more obstacle which will change the tone of this fantasy adventure for good. Our audio show uses both dialogue and narration to bring this tale to life, including narrated and intense combat scenes with sound effects and original music. We believe this is a good episode to showcase how far our series has come since we submitted Episode 2 last year. We hope you enjoy. And as always, thank you for listening. Gawky: Tales of an Extra Long Awkward Phase (Seal Press) Some tall girls grow up to have perfect posture and are later seen gracing the pages of magazines. Some are natural athletes with toned legs that mask their overlarge feet. Then there are "other" tall girls: the ones who are always tripping over themselves; who never look normal in any size of clothing; who literally don't fit in. Comedian Margot Leitman was one of these awkward giants, and "Gawky" is the painfully funny chronicle of her experiences growing up tall. Reaching five feet six inches in fourth grade--and approaching six feet in high school--Leitman realized early on that she'd always stand out from the crowd. To cope, she developed a thick skin and a sharp sense of humor, and instead of forever trying to blend in, she decided to embrace her center-of-attention status. Leitman wears funky, Ziggy Stardust-era jumpsuits (in the 90s); takes up any cause she can find (whether saving the public beaches or protesting prom); and generally makes as much use of her big presence as humanly possible. Leitman's memoir is a hilarious celebration of growing up gangly. Endearing and encouraging, "Gawky" is a cathartic release of everything awkward girls endure--and a tribute to a youth larger than life. "If Judy Blume and Chelsea Handler had a baby, and that baby was a book, it would be "Gawky.""--Rachel Dratch Margot Leitman's humorous, autobiographical writing has been published in Playgirl Magazine and The NY Press, as well as online at LifetimeTV.com, theFrisky.com, CollegeHumor.com, and 236.com (the comedy division of the Huffington Post). Her former monthly column, “From Behind the Bar,” was a reminiscence of bartending at the Upright Citizen's Brigade Theatre and was featured multiple times on Comedy Central Insider, BrooklynVegan.com, and Gawker. She is a regular monologist at Assscat (UCB Theatre's long running improv show hosted by Amy Poehler), Heeb Magazine's Storytelling, Moonwork, Jill Soloway's Sit N Spin, and Comedy Central's Crash Mansion, among others. In 2012, Margot was nominated for an ECNY Award (Excellence in Comedy, NY) for “Best Storyteller.” Margot Leitman lives in Los Angeles. Visit her online at MargotLeitman.com.
