Released on YouTube earlier this year, Shocks & Struts finds Kyle Kinane in top form. The comedian may have intentionally slowed down his breakneck touring schedule, but he remains one of the consistently funny standups in the business. In addition to touring, Kinane also co-hosts the podcasts, The Boogie Monster amd No Accounting for Taste. He joins us to talk about not talking about politics and competing with Fast & Furious films. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

On this week's episode: Chicago comedy hero Kyle Kinane stops by to shoot the shit. In more ways than one. Having booked himself to appear on our podcast the same night he had to -um- “prepare” for a colonoscopy scheduled the next morning (it happens) — this is an episode with an air of suspense that's worthy of Hitchcock. Kyle grins, bears it, and tries to sit still for Scott's probing …questions. How do you get a guy who's a C-hair away from shitting himself to honor his non-“binding” commitment to this silly podcast, you ask? Well, it might help that Kyle is a bit of a fan of Gabe's deadpan style of comic cluelesness (although, in typical Gabe fashion, that didn't stop Gabe from ramming in an oblivious insult or two). It also helps that Kyle has maintained a non-pretentious working class attitude about his career that's allowed him to keep his head, not buy into the show-biz bullshit, and protect the part of his job that he loves the most: Telling jokes and making people laugh. We couldn't be happier to have Kyle on as our first comedian — and before he had to run off to the bathroom, we managed to get him to talk about his new comedy special (“Shocks & Struts”), shutting down his long running podcast “The Boogie Monster”, honing a stand-up style in the eye of the Chicago music scene, how to shit in a box (again), Chipotle (also again), the meaning of success, “Casino” Rickles vs. “Natural Born Killers” Rodney, the Katt Williams effect, Loverboy adjacent stories, Kyle's first run-in with Scott, always galloping on a desert island, and dropping wavs in folders. Back to basics, baby!
Well look at that, #100! After 99 episodes, Katie and Dave finally dial-in the format a little (with help from a timer) and focus on a specific talking point...this week it's the topic of "narcissism". They also discuss the recent hiatus of The Boogie Monster, Dave's new comedy special, and Katie's enthusiasm for the new Beetlejuice reboot.
Today's guest is the one and only Kyle Kinane! We rehash the last time we all saw each other (and Kyle was insanely high). We share stories of skipping school and car accidents, plus we plot how we'd flee the country after being framed for a crime. GROLLO is de enige (en daarmee ook de beste) Cuby + Blizzards-tributeband van Nederland. De leden komen uit Tricklebolt, The Grand East, Money and the Man en Boogie Monster.

Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner, and I both happily and gratefully welcome you to this episode of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, whose number is 306. Could I have picked a clunkier way to say that? … Perhaps so. It's hard to say. It is, however, VERY easy to say "thank you for listening" so I'll do that now. Thank you for listening, if you've made it this far into the intro I think we will get along just fine. I share hosting duties of this podcast roughly every other week with Marc Hershon who created this show 11 years ago to showcase other folks' podcasts in a "Whitman's Sampler"-style format, and last week in Epi305 Mr. Hershon did just that with an episode called "Clips on a Whim" that featured a quartet of clips from the soundcasts Entry Level, Last Things First, Parks and Recollection and Timesuck!. It's a fun episode and I encourage you to listen to it at your earliest convenience via services like Apple and Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Audible, Amazon Music, Soundcloud, Podchaser.com, Podbay, YouTube, and on our own homesite, SuccotashShow.com This week I've got clips for you from the soundcasts The JV Club with Janet Varney, The Writers Panel and The Boogie Monster. I've also got an ad from our longtime fake sponsor Henderson's Pants and their Wake Island Abbreviated Trouser kicking around somewhere so that should round out the episode nicely. CLIPS The JV Club with Janet Varney From the show's official description: "Remember what it was like to be an awkward teenager? And remember how some things haven't really changed that much for you since then? Join proud dork Janet Varney as she explores the highs and lows of the bygone years with some of her favorite women as they talk their way through the terrible teens into adult-lescence." Although the episode I'm clipping dropped on May 28th, 2020 with guests Kaitlin Huwe & Stephanie Erb, I'd be remiss to mention this soundcast published what looks to be their 500th episode in late April…which is a pretty tremendous milestone, so I would like to extend a belated "Congratulations!" to them. Janet is an old friend of Succotash, with her show being first clipped way back in Episode 23, and then again in Episode 115. In addition, she chatted with my co-host Marc Hershon in between those appearances, in Epi97 during his visit to one of the Los Angeles Podcast Festivals. In this installment, Janet welcomes both Kaitlin and Stephanie (Therapy With Pami) for a chat about growing up in one place vs. moving all over, and all the things that come with both. Top hats! Frizzles! Bread, bread, bread! The Writers PanelThe definitive insider's guide to our current golden age of television, Ben Blacker's The Writers Panel is an ever expanding anthology of live convention panels and intimate in-studio interviews with the writers, producers, and show runners responsible for all the shows you can't stop watching. I clipped a sample from the October 6th, 2020 show, featuring a panel interview with Mary Laws (Monsterland), Brannon Braga (Books of Blood), & Matt Morgan (Helstrom), with Mr. Blacker serving as the host. (Ben was the co-creator of the long-running Thrilling Adventure Hour, and was a special guest back in the Dawn of Succotash for Episode 37.) The Boogie MonsterOur final clip of the episode is The Boogie Monster, hosted by comedians Kyle Kinane and Dave Stone, mainly talking about ghosts and barbecue and maybe interviewing people and maybe having had a few drinks before they started recording. (While these gents are not exactly old friends of the show, we have featured clips from The Boogie Monster twice previously, in Episodes 181 and 225.) This clip is from their May 10th, 2022 show, "Live from Humboldt County". Kyle and Dave are live from Savage Henry Comedy Club in beautiful Humboldt County, California. They get into some Squatch talk with local wizard, Dr. Foxmeat, and Robert Leiterman and Rowdy Kelly of The Bluff Creek Project. And that brings us neatly to the end portion of this program. I do hope you find something to enjoy while listening. Soundcasting has become such a huge part of the world of entertainment in the last 11 years since "Succotash" began… it's really fascinating to me, right now, in this moment. It's a legitimate cultural phenomenon that shows no signs of ceasing to be a thing…and why would it? I wonder what- if any - long-term societal effects of this format will be on the generations of listeners and content providers? Will the world survive long enough to look back on this period of time with any sort of nostalgic fondness? … Well, I suppose that remains to be seen. If you enjoyed this program, won't you take a moment to rate and/or review us wherever that applies? There's a whole archive of episodes going back to 2011 with some pretty quality content, much of which is, if nothing else, historical audio documents of the time in which they were made… more or less. Until next time, Thank you for listening, Be Decent to Each Other, go to www.tysonsaner.com to find other stuff I've been working on over the years including gaming videos, music and a whole other soundcast called Anti Social Show that I co-host with Hunter Block, and if you happen to be asked if you have heard anything interesting lately, and we come to mind, won't you please pass the Succotash? — Tyson Saner
Mex answers listeners' questions. Your Huckleberry then gets all weird about: The trial of the century, his scrap with Maverick, and atheists in foxholes.
We're back with another awesome interview! On this week's episode, we chat with the voice of Comedy Central himself, Kyle Kinane. He was nice enough to come on in between shows to talk about his roots in punk, the time he was in a jet ski gang, how punk houses are the real start of gentrification, and a whole lot more. Its another long one but definitely worth the listen. Enjoy!

Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner, your host for this week's installment of Succotash Shut-In: The Soundcast Stimulus Package. Last week was Episode 225 and host Marc Hershon brought you a pentalogy of soundcast spookiness to hit the Halloween theme in a big way. The soundcasts in question were Ghoul Intentions, Spoop Hour, The Boogie Monster, The Paranormal Life, and a clip uploaded to us of a soundcast called Dead Waves. (That show is, of course, still available to listen to at Apple and Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, the Laughable app, and many other places that you might find soundcasts…including our homesite, http://SuccotashShow.com.) This episode is going to be SOMEWHAT Halloween-themed… I'll try to explain how as we go. I've got clips from Candy Dinner with Matt and Ify because that's what you do immediately after trick or treating…you have a candy dinner…in my dreams where I never have a tummy ache, Blood and Black Rum Podcast - A Cult Film / Horror Podcast that is its entire title… I think that choice is self-explanatory, and Spanish Aqui Presents…because Hispanic Heritage Month was Tuesday, September 15th, to Thursday, October 15th, this 2020th year….and Dios De Los Muertos happens before my next episode of "Succotash Shut-In"…so I thought it might be nice to touch on that. I've also made an early-November-appropriate selection for this episode's contribution from our longtime fake sponsor Henderson's Pants and their oh-so-approapriate Foggy Bottom Britches. I will also be reading something from TrumPoetry.com our newer, 100% Fake Sponsor with the 100% real website that anyone with a computer, or has a friend with a computer, can visit. It's an amazing archive and I encourage you to seek it out and enjoy the quality of it's wit and topicality…if that's a thing…I just "Googled" it, it is… Let's get this underway, shall we? Thank you for listening. THE CLIPS Candy Dinner with Matt and IfyAnother comedy podcast with two comedian friends, Ify Nwadiwe and Matt Apodaca, rambling. Our clip is from February 10th, 2020, Epi78 "Talkin' Movies". Matt is back and he's fired up about the Oscars! In this clip, the duo discuss ice cream parlors, Rick and Morty fandom, and a little bit about the food at a party Matt recently attended… Spanish Aquí PresentsFrom Earwolf, Raiza, Oscar, Tony, and Carlos bring you the best of the best of lo mejor of Latinx comedy. Join them as they ask, ¿Que te pica? (What's itching you?), chat with their special guests, and wrap up the show with an improv set that's muy fuego. Guests are Gloria Calderon Kellett & Tanya Saracho in an episode clipped from the first day of Autumn of this year. In this clip, the group discussed whether or not incorporating COVID-19 into future media projects is appropriate…and how tragedy inspires and has inspired pop culture. Blood and Black Rum Podcast - A Cult Film / Horror Podcast This is a biweekly podcast from Ryne at Cultsploitation.com and his friend Chris Martin. From their website: "We're talking everything from niche horror genre fare to classic films to video games and comic books. We're an eclectic duo - and that's probably due to the drinking we do while recording. We take breaks along the way to talk about the best beer and liquor we've had that week." Our featured clip comes from March 13th of this year, Episode 163: The St. Patty's Day Special AKA "Leprachaun 5: Leprechaun in the Hood". Side Note: They are drinking Goose Island's Lost Palate IPA this episode. And there's your last episode before "Super Tuesday". Tuesdays are the show's release date so there will be one dropping on that day and it will be hosted and assembled by Marc Hershon. I'd just like to wrap by urging you to vote like your life depends on it, because it might. Vote safely by mail if you can, or in person if you must. Avoid the maskless like the plague and report anything that looks like voter suppression or intimidation to the F.B.I. We will get thru this together, one way or another. Well, that's enough out of me for now. Please share the show with others if you enjoyed it or found it helpful in any way. Sharing is also caring and it is what we mean when we gently urge you to Please… Pass The Succotash. — Tyson Saner
I am Marc Hershon, creator, executive producer, and co-host of Succotash Shut-In, The Soundcast Stimulus Package, designed to up your weekly dosage of comedy soundcast intake by several clips each episode. Last week in Episode 224 my esteemed co-host and soundcast practitioner Tyson Saner, prescribed a three-clip flight of comedy shows, including Rough Giraffe, Still Loading, and The Dark Weeb. You can still get that script filled at Apple and Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, the Laughable app, and our homesite, SuccotashShow.com. This here, however, is Epi225, which I’m calling “Scarin’ Up Some Spooky Clips”. That’s because I’ve pulled deeply out of the comedy horror genre for the snippets provided for you this week, from Ghoul Intentions, Spoop Hour, The Boogie Monster, and The Paranormal Life. In addition, we have a clip uploaded to us from a fellow comedy soundcaster, Amanda Welzein, producer and host of Dead Waves, which falls squarely into the theme this week just by chance. Or, once we got her submission, I moved the theme I was going to do, which was “Podcast Bloopers”, to a later show. You decide which came first. This episode is brought to you by Henderson’s Pants, makers of the Pet Pantz, as well as by Trumpoetry.com. THE CLIPS Dead Waves Since our soundcaster-submitted clip from Dead Waves actually DID give me the idea for our “Scarin’ Up Spooky clips” theme, we kick it off with that one. Here’s the note that was sent in with the snippet, “Good afternoon, Marc, I hope this isn't too forward, but I've been trying to submit a clip of my podcast to you using Hightail, and it just stalls out after a couple of minutes. Our friends over at Jock Doc Podcast told us about your show, and I think it's really cool how inclusive you are of all types of comedy podcasts. With all of the podcasts out there it's easy to get lost in the shuffle, so for you to carve out a space to mention some of us hidden gems is super appreciated. Thank you for your time. Stay healthy, stay safe. Amanda Welzein - Producer, Host, 100% That Witch, Dead Waves: An Improvised Paranormal Podcast” Well, that darned nice of the Jock Doc folks to say such nice things. Amanda didn’t include any set up for this clip, although I see it is from their Epi236, it’s entitled “Anything for ‘Loaf”, and it features Amanda, her co-host Ryan Fuhst and guest Tanja Rowland. The Boogie Monster Our next clip is from The Boogie Monster, hosted by comedians Kyle Kinane and Dave Stone. I am a bit ashamed, in that I had never heard of this show before. I definitely know who Kyle and Dave are, but the fact is that there have been 206 episodes of The Bookie Monster! This clip is from the most recent show, in which the hosts tackle – for the first time in all those ‘sodes, werewolves! Ghoul Intentions That brings us to our next clip from another spooktacular show, called Ghoul Intentions. This one is a pretty unique offering. It’s hosted by a couple of voiceover talent folks. Jamie Marchi. who is the voice of Ellie in the Borderlands II video game, as well as bunch of other work, and J. Michael Tatum, another Borderlands II alum – he did the voice of Sir Hammerlock. If the episode I clipped this from is any indication, each show opens with a spooky tale voiced by one or the other, or both of the hosts. And then they go into a chat mode where they share creepy things from the news, culture, and the world. Our featured snippet is from Epi102, entitled “A Bag of Bones”, and the hosts talk about stuff made from skin and bones. That is human skin and human bones. Michael is talking about ossuaries, places that are made to house piles and piles of bones… Spoop Hour The logline for this next show on Apple Podcasts reads, “Spoop Hour is a paranormal comedy podcast hosted by two Halloweenies, Courtney and Sasha. Each week, we take a look at a different creepy topic like ghosts, cryptids, or anything that goes bump in the night. Get spooped!” I guess “spoop” is a portmanteau for “spook” and “poop”, and the hosts definitely like to laugh and cram a lot of stuff into their shows. Our clip is from the episode entitled, “What Happened to Fritz?” that dropped on October 13th – just last week – and concerns the haunting of Alma Fielding. This Paranormal Life Our last clip for this episode is from a show out of London, England, called, This Paranormal Life. Once again, the blurb from their homesite – which seems to be SoundCloud – really says it all.: “From punching Bigfoot to hunting Ancient Aliens - Every Tuesday, Rory Powers and Kit Grier investigate a different paranormal case and find the truth inside the mystery.” For this clip, I went back to August 25th of this year, mainly because the title caught my eye: “The Hooded Figures of Ballyboley Forest.” And this clip actually teases a bit of the story of those very hooded figures. So those are some early Halloween treats to put in your bag. Or ears. I wanted to get them out now because, looking at the old calendar on the wall, Tyson Saner’s next episode, Succotash Shut-In #226 covers Halloween and I won’t be back until just after. If you ARE a comedy soundcaster and would like us to feature a 3-5 minute MP3 clip of YOUR show on OUR show, listen to details from our announcer, Bill Heywatt, on where you can find our direct upload link in his closing comments. And I hope it works for you, unlike Amanda Welzein, who ended up having to mail us her clip. Which you can do, too. Our address is marc@SuccotashShow.com or Tyson@SuccotashShow.com. That’s me for now, hoping that you enjoy the show and that you’re going to be able to get your Halloween on in some way, shape, or form, regardless of spooky, spooky COVID. If you don’t like the show, I’m frankly surprised you made it this far. And if you DO like the show, won’t you please take a moment to rate and review Succotash Shut-in on Apple or Google Podcasts or wherever you grab our feed from? And please, if you’re thinking about it when you’re hanging out with your friends on Zoom, Houseparty, or a Prodigy Usenet, remember to pass the Succotash! — Marc Hershon

On this episode of HDTGB Zane & Jake discuss some content they consumed. Also Jake goes on a very long monologue that got cut out of the episode for a very good reason. This episode feels like a Boogie Monster episode but Zane Riley only says the name of a recipe but never gives the instructions or lists the ingredients. But the boys finally pull it together to put on a pretty good episode of How Did This Get Booked. As always for corrections tweet at Jake @manscoutmanning or email him at Jake@SSLShow.com. Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner, your host for this seasonally appropriate episode of Succotash, The Comedy Soundcast Soundcast — Hallowanksgiving addition! Yes, it's that special time situated perineum-esquely between Halloween and Thanksgiving. The mid-terms have come and gone and hoo boy, ghosts and turkeys everywhere! Comedy and conversations become essential, people have those conversations, record them and release them as comedy soundcasts... How do you find comedy soundcasts? You turn right at Greenland...But seriously folks, it wouldn't be a Hallowanksgiving episode without a turkey of a joke...or two. Also, the punchline of that joke is from "A Hard Day's Night" which I AM NOT plagiarizing...I'm merely pointing out that the punchline is arguably funnier in context...and of course, that's completely subjective. And, as I am fond of saying...so is Comedy. I'm calling that joke a turkey because I wanted to mention Turkey again. I'm hungry, ok? I'd have turkey off the bone 20 times a year if it were convenient to do so. I already use ground turkey for taco meat and I'll — more occasionally than I would like, mind you — enjoy strips of turkey bacon flaked into a nice pea soup instead of ham. Pea soup is awesome, and fiber is even more important than a sense of humor. Believe me, kids. SO, How do you find comedy soundcasts? I find them by going to places like Stitcher, iTunes, Soundcloud, Podbay and Laughable. Laughable actually recommends soundcasts to me based on comedians I'm looking for and has featured comedians that are suggested when I am browsing the app. At least one of the soundcasts featured in this episode was recommended to me by the app and because of the sheer amount of listening to comedy soundcasts I do I really appreciate the suggestions that the app gives me. I also find soundcasts by listening to soundcasts and the commercials for other soundcasts that might be heard before, mid, and after the main content of soundcasts from certain networks. That's one of the reasons you'll hear soundcasts from the Earwolf network, Starburns Audio, and All Things Comedy so often. I also try to feature shows that feature people whose names I had not read or heard of before my searching for potential clip material brought their existence to my attention. So again...how do YOU find comedy soundcasts? No rush to respond, just think about it for a bit and get back to me. In the meantime, we've got clips from: Screams and Moans Returns, Get Up On This, The Aggy Fox and Dana Podcast, Never Seen It, Fat Pig, and The Boogie Monster... We've also loaded the show with two timely Bursts O' Durst with political comedian and social commentator Will Durst. We playback a call that came into the Succotash Hotline this week. (THAT number, BTW, is 1 (818) 921-7212) And we have some selected readings from TrumPoetry.com So let's dig in... CLIPS Screams And Moans ReturnsScreams and Moans Returns and, as Megan M (aka @PodcastWhore) eases back into her hosting seat, she's joined by the lovely Melissa Maples. They discuss Halloween III: Season of the Witch, and she have more than a few questions for Melissa during the second half. Our clip features talk of fear of technology, clowns and how Knitting fits into various horror films... Side Note: The movie featured in this episode, Halloween III: Season of the Witch was filmed very close to where I grew up and currently reside. There's a lovely cheese factory in Loleta, the town that stood in for the town called Santa Mira. — TS Side side note: The intermission skit, "The Nutritionist," was performed by a number of individuals including Succotash Executive Producer Marc Hershon. Fat Pig Have you ever eaten frosting out of the can? Hidden empty pizza boxes under your bed? Fat Pig is fall-off-the-bone funny comedians Jessica Kirson and Frank Liotti, talking about food addiction, closet eating, bingeing, diets, shame, fat camp, and cake. Sometimes touching, often bizarre, always hilarious, Fat Pig is a wild ride from start to finish, diving in and pigging out on Americaís biggest addiction, food. The episode description we took this clip from simply reads: Maya Angelou, mayonnaise, and Betty White's tits, and it's from the "Fart Porn" episode from March 14th, 2018. Get Up On ThisFinal episode alert! Jensen Karp and co-host Matthew Robinson have sat with a different guest each week to get you up on (or up OFF) new stuff. They' introduced you to musicians, TV shows, apps and many more things, knowing you just didn't have the time to sift through that shitt. In this epi, Jensen and Matthew present "The Last Episode of Get Up On This!" They address the future of the podcast, look back ond favorite moments from the show, and hit you with their Top 10 Get Up Ons of All Time. Never Seen It Famous movies and TV shows are rewritten by people who have NEVER seen them, then their versions are then cast and read in studio. Grab your Red Vines and settle in for pop culture talk, ridiculous movie-themed-games and recurring segments with host Kyle Ayers' dad. In the episode I clipped from just a few weeks ago, Steve Agee, who has never seen An American Werewolf in London, rewrites it and they read his script. The Aggy Fox and Dana Podcast Join the hosts of this brand new soundcast as hosts Aggy Fox and Dana Lucas explore the great and godawful of the world and play One Third of an Hour with a different guest each episode. This clip Is from the very first episode from October 19th, 2018, midway thru a segment called "The Great and the Godawful" in which host Dana Lucas is halfway into recounting an unpleasant experience for her contribution to the "Godawful" portion of the segment. The Boogie Monster In this simple premised soundcast, hosts Kyle Kinane and Dave Stone talk about ghosts, barbeque, and maybe interview people and maybe have had a few drinks before they started recording. OUr snippet hails from right back around the corner at the end of October. The Waverly Hills discussion starting point is at approximately the 42 minute mark. This is from a portion of the conversation regarding the sanatorium's so-called "Death Chute". Also, the Waverly Hills Sanatorium is thought to be Haunted. So there's disease AND ghost talk in this episode of this soundcast! Well...that's about that. As I record this, the mid-terms have passed and I would not be surprised if there's AT LEAST 2 more years of conflict between The Government AND The People...Honestly it's not a new thing. People have been criticizing politics and politicians for a long time, not always constructively...But it is their right to do so and that's, I guess, the point. It's the violence and hatred that gets to me. That's why comedy is important to me...it's a break from the drama...and if not always a break it is at least a release of tension to be able to laugh at something. Listening to soundcasts reminds me that people are still getting along, having conversations AND laughing about the strangeness that is the human condition...at least that's what it seems like to me. So, for Marc Hershon, Bill Heywatt, Joe Paulino, Scott Carvey, and Succotash The Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, I wish you a continued Happy Hallowanksgiving ...on into Thanksgiving Proper...or whatever else you might celebrate this November as long as you aren't hurting anyone. AND, if you would consider sharing this program with people who might enjoy it I'd be forever grateful, for that is what we are hoping to accomplish when we say "Please, Pass The Succotash"! — Tyson Saner
