Many of the songs on this album had been performed live in the previous decade and some of them had even been recorded in a studio, but the duo was not convinced the versions were good enough. The album was released to positive reviews, with a number of reviewers noting that it was a welcome return by the duo. But what will the boys think of the album? Mikal Telle har over 30 års erfaring i musikkbransjen. Videre fulgte en egen platebutikk som 19-åring og plateselskapet hvor artister som Annie, Röyksopp, Kings Of Convenience og Ralph Myerz fikk eksportert ut musikk sin. I dag jobber han fulltid med blant annet Hothothot-festivalen, House of Telle og MADE. "Riot On An Empty Street" é o segundo álbum da dupla norueguesa Kings Of Convenience, que na época retornava depois de três anos sem lançamentos. Erlend Øye e Eirik Glambek Bøe se aventuram num segundo registro mais robusto e grandioso, ainda que continuem a soar intimistas e confessionais. Para esta obra, o grupo aposta também numa ironia ainda maior, bastante cínica em alguns momentos - e reside aí a beleza deste disco, que toca em assuntos profundos, mas sempre com uma leveza ímpar. Island in Berlin, gestern spielte Sóley in der Stadt und heute gibt die Band Árstíðir ein Konzert im Frannz. Ihre warmen, elektronischen Tracks ergänzen Árstíðir mit akustischen Instrumenten und mehrstimmigen Gesang, was manchmal wie ein Mix aus Sigur Rós und den Kings Of Convenience klingt. Bei ihrem Konzert heute Abend werden Árstíðir nicht nur ihr aktuelles Album "Nivalis" vorstellen, sondern passend zur Weihnachtszeit isländische und nordische Weihnachtslieder zum Besten geben.
Sein Künstlername kommt aus dem Griechischen und bedeutet (Kreativität) und genau darum geht es dem schwedischen Songwriter mit griechischen Wurzeln. Plàsis Songs stehen in der Tradition von Künstlern wie Sufjan Stevens, José González oder den Kings Of Convenience. Es sind die leisen Töne, die seine akustischen Songs so anrührend machen. Im September erschien sein neues Minialbum "Mystery" und das wird Plàsi heute Abend im Auster Club vorstellen.

We recorded an episode on Kings of Convenience's first studio album, "Quiet Is The New Loud" around a year ago and ended up airing an entirely different episode on their second full length, "Riot On An Empty Street" for episode 7. Tell us about your influences. A: I am from a small city in West-Germany and without internet back then I had to rely on our local DJ. Luckily we had Andreas Schneider, who was way ahead of every other DJ in our area back then and played House music already in 1987. So I sneaked out from home to go to his parties and the following week I spend my savings to buy some of the records he played. When I got my first scooter I chekced out clubs in other cities like Königsburg in Krefeld, Ratinger Hof and Relax in Düsseldorf or Plastique in Duisburg. When turning 18 I travelled every school holidays to Paris to go to Le Boys and later Rex Club, where DJ Deep and Laurent Garnier were two of the resident DJs. Q: You´re a pioneer of the early days as a DJ and producer for about 20 years now. What has been the greatest achievement for you? A: I could probably write a book about all things happened in the past 20/30 years. Sometimes I feel I am responsible for the downfall of what people call Deep House these days. I produced and played all kinds of House music since the beginning from Disco to technoish and Minimal House, but somehow my vocal productions seem to caught the most attention. Probably having a unique vocalist like Erlend Oye (Kings Of Convenience / Whitest Boy Alive) on my first album and producing his DJ Kicks for Studio !K7 left a mark and this was helping to win multiple DJ awards as Best Deep House Artist at Beatport and Ibiza DJ Awards in 2008 and 2010 while my idols Charles Webster, Francois K or Jimpster left empty handed. I always felt that they would have deserved it way more, but what I didnt know is that the face of Deep House should change more and more over the following years and al of a sudden people consider Robin Schulz as a deep house artist. But anyways I am pretty proud of tracks like "For The Time Being" or "Vincent Price" but also of some of my mixes. When you are listening to my mix for this How I Met The Bass series you will hopefully recognize how much effort I put in mixes and I am glad there are enough people out there appreciating this. Those people are also the reason for my biggest achievment: still being around in this business for more than 20 years now. Q: What are you currently working on and which future Phonique projects are on the way? A: I am always working on some new club tracks and remixes, but I am also mentoring a young dj/producer talent from Odessa by the name Belkina. On top of that I have the crazy idea of transforming my best vocal tracks into accoustic songs (into a Kings Of Convenience style) for an album format. Looking for a music director for this project at the moment.

Jahrhunderts gilt zweifellos Steve Reich, dessen Werke den Kern des Festivals ausmachen und der in der Sendung auch zu Wort kommt. In gewisser Weise minimalistisch, was die Instrumentierung angeht, gehen auch Kings Of Convenience zu Werke. Die Norweger, die als Vorreiter der Quiet-Is-The-New-Loud-Bewegung gelten, zelebrieren am 8. Mai die Kunst der leisen Töne im Großen Saal der Elbphilharmonie. Ob das Duo, dessen letztes Album „Declaration Of Dependence“ 2009 erschienen ist, auch neues Material spielt, verrät Sänger Erlend Øye möglicherweise im Gespräch mit unserer Moderatorin Eva Garthe?! Ebenfalls Thema wird der Auftritt von Jonas Kaufmann sein. Zusammen mit dem Pianisten Helmut Deutsch wird der Star-Tenor am 24. Mai in einen Dialog treten und das Format des klassischen Liederabends im Großen Saal neu interpretieren. Bereits gern gesehener Gast in der Elbphilharmonie ist Pianist Brad Mehldau. Der US-Amerikaner, der während des Eröffnungsfestivals erstmals jazzige Töne im Großen Saal erklingen ließ, spannt im Mai zusammen mit Larry Grenadier am Bass und Jeff Ballard am Schlagzeug lyrische Motive in intensiven Improvisationen zu weiten erzählerischen Bögen und lotet damit abermals die Grenzen des zeitgenössischen Jazzpianos aus. In der losen Reihe „Around The World“ wird das Hamburger Konzerthaus regelmäßig zum Ort spannender Entdeckungsreisen - und das über alle stilistischen, ethnischen oder politischen Grenzen hinweg. Im Mai sorgen zum Beispiel die britische Sitarspielerin Anoushka Shankar mit spirituellen Klangeskapaden und der andalusische Flamenco-Nuevo-Pionier José Fernándes Torres alias Tomatito für inspirierende transkulturelle Begegnungen.
