Music, blue comedy, and hotel beds: The boys discuss the trials and tribulations of being on the road together again, this time in Hobart, Indiana with none other than Umphrey's McGee's own, Brendan Bayliss! He and Andy (and Nick too) are on the road together and just finished a 3-show run of their "No Refunds" Tour. Listen in to hear about how it all went down. And on the Interview Hour we welcome 60's era vintage-tinted brit rockers, The Heavy Heavy! Andy picks their brains the way these long-haired, peace loving rockers pick their guitars. This week on the show, host Sara J chats with Lotus drummer Michael Greenfield fresh off his recent four night run with Umphrey's McGee, where he filled in for their drummer, Kris Myers. Mike tells Sara more about when his passion for drumming started, sharing a little about his musical history prior to joining Lotus in 2009.Mike reveals what it was like getting that text from Umphrey's McGee keyboardist, Joel Cummins asking him to play some shows, why his initial reaction was to almost say "no" and how an Omega Moos show at Holidaze in 2021 helped show Bayliss that he was a good choice to fill in while Kris was away. We get a peek inside Mike's month long preparation process for what he calls "one of the top 5 musical highlights of my life, which UM original he wanted to take on, which one he wasn't ready for yet & more.Where you can find this week's guest:https://lotusvibes.comhttps://instagram.com/mbgreenfieldSupport DATC Media Company on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/DatcmediacompanyEpisode 234: https://droppedamongthiscrowdpod.simplecast.com/episodes/a-conversation-with-leslie-hannah-from-goose-chicks-podcast"We've Come So Far" (datcmediacompany.com)DATC Media Company: https://datcmediacompany.comDATC Media YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXM4rMP_2fWvjcVP4UH0G1QEmail: droppedamongthiscrowdpod@gmail.comShow Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/droppedamongthiscrowdpodcast/Show Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/droppedamongthiscrowd/Twitter: https://twitter.com/amongthiscrowdBook a conversation on "Dropped among this Crowd":https://datcmediacompany.com/contact/ola/services/be-on-dropped-among-this-crowd-podcastUmphrey's McGee Tour Dates:https://www.umphreys.com/tour/Shop the Umphrey's McGee Official Store (umphreys.com)Umphrey's McGee UMXXV Digital Collectibles: umphreys.xyzThe Umphreys "WOW" Show: https://the-umphreys-wow-show-with-rob-turner-jimmy-knowledge.simplecast.com/Contact the Umphreys "WOW" show: umwowshow@gmail.comJimmy Knowledge: https://twitter.com/UMfactsWall of "WOW": https://datcmediacompany.com/wall-of-%22wow%22-wednesdays"Stew on This": https://stew-on-this.simplecast.com/Tales from Scamp with Joel Cummins & Sara J: https://tales-from-scamp-with-joel-cummins.simplecast.com/Start you Nugs.net Free Trial: https://www.pntrac.com/t/8-12682-307857-247638The Much Obliged Podcast, A Yellow Balloon Experience: https://the-much-obliged-podcast-a-yellow-balloon-experience.simplecast.com/episodesFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/muchobligedInstagram: @JahJunkie"Asking for a Friend" App: https://youtu.be/-Pa-zVNa1_8South Bend Scene Presents: Willie Waldman Project featuring Jake Cinninger (and Special Guests) October 28th 2023: https://jake-cinninger.ticketleap.com/willie-waldman-project/An evening with Brendan Bayliss at The Livery: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/an-evening-with-brendan-bayliss-of-umphreys-mcgee-at-the-livery-tickets-701008975717?aff=oddtdtcreator

Joel Cummins on his upcoming duo show with Brendan Bayliss "Come on down to The Deck and enjoy live music on the beach! Brendan Bayliss and Joel Cummins, the dynamic duo of jam rock, have joined forces for a show that will make you laugh, cry, and wonder what the heck just happened. With Brendan's guitar shredding and Joel's keyboard wizardry, they're like two mad scientists creating funky, psychedelic concoctions that will leave you saying "wow, that was weird, but I loved it." Ryan “Pony” Stasik shares the unique ways his successful 25-year-old band, Umphrey's McGee, creates an intimate connection with the audience– from the type of music performed to “first-class opportunities” to catch a private concert backstage or letting the fans give input for controlling the experience live. Ryan also explains why the band chose to have their own record label and other strategies for business success, including dealing with the challenges of Covid that was “a huge asterisk for the music industry.” Topics include: How John a “football jock” and Ryan “a very smart student” met at Notre Dame and how their paths crossed years later, both successful in their unique ways from following their passions. Ryan's part in the Chicago-based jam band, Umphrey's McGee, which started with a homegrown audience built from music presented in innovative ways. In 2022, the latest album, Asking For A Friend, continued to surprise fans: https://dcmusicreview.com/asking-for-a-friend-talking-about-umphreys-mcgees-new-album-with-joel-cummins/ The impact of words, which can be a driving force. Ryan has been playing with Brendan Bayliss (who was told by his music teacher in college that he had little chance of making it in the music industry) for more than 30 years. The fork in the road, when Ryan knew he was going to make it after a rough few years. He shares, too, how he was the opening act for Dave Matthews Band (and how down-to-earth Dave Matthews is). A “weekend warrior” approach of priorities as a husband with two kids, the strategy for hitting the financial numbers, and the special ways the band members communicate. Some bands, like The Rolling Stones, make more money on merchandise than performing. About Ryan Stasik Ryan Stasik, November 13th, 1976, came into this world bleeding black & gold. His Pittsburgh roots run deep despite moving to Kalamazoo, Michigan at the tender age 12, as Appetite for Destruction, the debut studio album by American hard rock band Guns N' Roses, hit the shelves. Ryan began playing piano at 5, and learned guitar shortly thereafter. After meeting Brendan Bayliss, an American musician and the founder, a lead guitarist, and primary vocalist for progressive rock band Umphrey's McGee. Ryan offered to switch to bass since the band had no one holding down the bottom end. Even from the beginning, he was a team player. Against all odds, this plan worked out. Equal parts trained pianist and self-taught rocker, Ryan Stasik the bassist, is a confluence of musical forces. As a student at the University of Notre Dame, he co-founded Umphrey's McGee, known as much for their irreverent stage presence as their complex musicality. Ryan is truly a musician knowing no boundaries. As the toe-tapping backbeat of Umphrey's legendary live shows, Stasik pulls inspiration from anybody and anything that gets hips ‘a swaying. Though devoted to studying the likes of Dan Kurtz, Nick Blasky, and Mike Bendy, Ryan leaves plenty of room for Hall & Oates, Iron Maiden, and Sade. In the end, if it takes to a Budweiser and a good laugh, it's welcome in the web of rhythm Ryan calls his repertoire. Welcome back to Talking Circles - a production of Osiris Media and Umphrey's McGee. This is a podcast about the making of Asking For A Friend with the members of Umphrey's McGee. In Episode Eleven we focus on the quiet ballad, buried deep in the second half of Asking For A Friend, “How About Now.” A simple acoustic song recorded in a single take, it showcases Brendan Bayliss's lyrical brilliance, and the simple approach the band took on their latest album. Highlighting his own sense of doubt around his songwriting as well as the immediate reception of the song by his bandmates and producers, this is a perfect encapsulation of what makes Bayliss such a constant in the world of Umphrey's McGee.Talking Circles is a production of Osiris Media and Umphrey's McGee. Welcome back to Talking Circles - a production of Osiris Media and Umphrey's McGee. This is a podcast about the making of Asking For A Friend with the members of Umphrey's McGee. In Episode Five we talk with Brendan Bayliss and Jake Cinninger about the song “New Wings.” Written by Cinninger and then sent to Bayliss for lyrical additions, it represents the “three chords and the truth” approach that defines much of Asking For a Friend. Focusing on the brilliant hook within the song, and the band's eagerness to play these songs live, we focus this episode on how Cinninger and Bayliss work together why a simpler approach to songwriting defined the best parts of Asking For a Friend.Talking Circles is a production of Osiris Media and Umphrey's McGee. Welcome back to Talking Circles - a production of Osiris Media & Umphrey's McGee. This is a podcast about the making of Asking For A Friend with the members of Umphrey's McGee. In Episode Three we talk with Brendan Bayliss about the song “So Much.” Written in the late-aughts as a way to make up for two weeks of procrastination, the song is a three-chords-and-the-truth rarity in the UM catalog. Having been auditioned for a number of previous albums, it finally found its home in the Asking For A Friend sessions as its themes spoke clearly to the entire band during 2020. We discuss the origins of the song, its improvisational evolution, the freedom with which the band approached its recording session, and where Bayliss sees the song evolving going forward. This week I am pleased to welcome my guest, pedal steel player, Umphrey's McGee collaborator and ringleader of many bands, Mike Racky. Mike and I talk about a whole bunch of topics like: * His family and how the records that he listened to as a kid were so big in cultivating his interested in the pedal steel. *The bands that he's in, The Tractor Kings, The Morning Sides, Steel Your Face, Fate Nite, Handsome Man's Gentlemen's Club, what they've been up to during the pandemic, what they have coming up and their (in my opinion world record breaking) handsome across America NY 2020 celebration where they played each NYE/ midnight celebration for each time zone. * What musicians inspire him * What he never leaves home for tour without * His recent appearance on the Jambase “ClusterFlies” compilation which featured the Phish track “Twist” reimagined by Brendan Bayliss (available now on all music streaming platforms) * How he became friends with Bayliss and shares a crazy “Hard Days Night” type story * The first time he played on stage with the band and the first time he played on stage with them at Summer Camp Music Festival back in 2008. * 2020 as a whole for his as a musician * Wine Not * The Brendan and Jake aka Shitty Limo Christmas show – and whole bunch more!Email: droppedamongthiscrowdpod@gmail.comShow Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/droppedamongthiscrowdpodcast/Show Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/droppedamongthiscrowd/Website: https://droppedamongthiscrowdpod.weebly.com/Dropped Among This Crowd on YouTube: https://tinyurl.com/y7zqveo5Where you can also watch video interviews on IGTV: https://www.instagram.com/droppedamongthiscrowdpodcast/channel/Twitter: https://twitter.com/amongthiscrowdBook a conversation on "Dropped among this Crowd":https://calendly.com/droppedamongthiscrowdpod"Dropped Among This Crowd" Official Etsy store: https://www.etsy.com/shop/AmongthisCrowdWhere to find everything Conduit Magazine: https://linktr.ee/conduitmagazineDropped Among This Crowd Media Company:Website: Dropped Among This Crowd Media Company (datcmediacompany.com)Instagram: DATC Media Company (@datcmediacompany) • Instagram photos and videosTwitter: DATCMediaCompany (@DatcMedia) / TwitterUmphrey's McGee Tour Dates: Tour Dates | Music | Concert Tour Dates | Umphrey's McGee (umphreys.com)YOU WALKED UP SHAKING IN YOUR BOOTS BUT YOU STOOD TALL AND LEFT A RAGING BULL - Umphrey's McGee (umphreys.com)Episode 155: https://droppedamongthiscrowdpod.simplecast.com/episodes/crofoot-festival-grounds-pontiac-mi-may-28th-may-29thMike Racky (@mikeracky) • Instagram photos and videosHandsome Man's Gentlemen's Club: Social: (1) Handsome Man's Gentlemen's Club | FacebookYouTube: Handsome Man's Gentleman's Club - YouTube Handsome Across America: https://tinyurl.com/zfafv46bFate Nite: Social: Fate Nite (@fatenitechi) • Instagram photos and videos(1) Fate Nite | FacebookClusterflies: Cluster Flies - Reimagining Phish's Farmhouse AlbumVideo of "Push + Pull" from 8/10/19 featuring Mike Racky: https://tinyurl.com/unapr6rnSummer Camp 2019 Recap Podcast Episode: https://droppedamongthiscrowdpod.simplecast.com/episodes/summer-camp-2019-re-cap

Thanks for tuning in! Happy Barton Hall day! No Simple Road with ….. Me! I was honored to be interviewed for one of our longtime podcasts, No Simple Road. I finally got to hang with the crew, and it was a lot of fun. We talked about how I discovered music including Phish and The Grateful Dead, what possessed me to think of starting a podcast network, and some plans for Osiris's future. Was it the best show of May 1977? Did it really happen, or was it part of a CIA mind control program? A widely circulated conspiracy theory, which you can read about here, says it never happened. Awesome show, whether it happened or not. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

12 Songs of Christmas Part II
InsideOut wTnS debuts on the Osiris Podcast Network (www.osirispod.com) with an "Awards-show" style 50th episode. Hosts Rob Turner and Seth Weiner play and discuss four categories of clips. After a "Best Reveal" start, the hosts in typical fashion choose to poke fun at themselves with the remaining categories - "Worst Interruption," "Worst Question," and "Worst Reveal." Amidst these categories are four "Best" performances from previous episodes which feature exclusive live songs from Sam Bush, Randall Bramblett and Kevn Kinney as well as an episode-closing one from Geoff Achison. The other categories feature portions of previous episodes featuring Col. Bruce Hampton, Jon Fishman, Brendan Bayliss, John Bell, Simon Allen, Marcus King, Jennifer Hartswick, Joel Cummins, Marc Brownstein, Al Schnier and others See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
This week on Episode 43, Rob and Seth release their interview with Marcus King in advance of his band's first-ever "Family Reunion" festival, which will happen at the Pisgah Brewing Company on October 6 & 7.” Marcus covers a bevy of topics, including his early days guesting in his father's Christian blues band, growing up in South Carolina and how current stalwarts in the music scene (Jimmy Herring, Brendan Bayliss, Jake Cinninger and Snarky Puppy) inspired him to explore a variety of tones and to go home and practice his guitar more. The young phenom also speaks on creating new music and why he shares publishing with his band mates, some of his, perhaps surprising influences, his approach to performing as a guest musician and even demonstrates a knowledge of the long-lost legendary guitarist Danny Gatton. wTnS is Produced by Rob Turner and Engineered by Josh Thane of Wonder Dog Sounds Studio. www.joshthaneproductions.com www.wonderdogsounds.com Inside Out w/ Turner and Seth: insideoutwtns.com Twitter: @InsideoutWTNS Instagram: www.instagram.com/insideoutwtns Facebook: www.facebook.com/insideoutwTnS See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Seth calls in to brief all of us on Jam Cruise. Then the Brendan Bayliss interview continues and we hear his memories of Umphrey's landmark Bonnaroo performance, his early experiences with eventual peers like moe. and The Disco Biscuits and his feelings on criticism of his work. He also tells some stories about playing The Jammys with Sinead O'Connor, Mavis Staples, Huey Lewis and Jeff Coffin. Brendan explains the band's hand-signals, and how Joshua Redman first thought they were kidding about them, but ended up finding them helpful when improvising with UM. Brendan talks about how fan feedback impacts the band with regard to the venues at which they play. Then he speaks of how his new release "Zonkey" may signal the end of the band's annual mashup-themed Halloween shows, about failing to sit on the John-John while recording at Abbey Road, and about the brand new material the band is working on now. Rob and Seth announce the new co-branding with Live For Live Music and welcome their new listeners. They make an appeal for an interactive relationship - particularly with regard to the coming episode on webcasting. Then they interview Brendan Bayliss, founding member of Umphrey's McGee. We learn about how at a young age he moved from being an avid sports fan to a guitar enthusiast. His father's brilliant tennis career is discussed, as it found Brendan moving to and from Massachusetts, on to Indiana, and ultimately attending Norte Dame. We are taken through the late 90s South Bend music scene, including the UM-historical significance of Ali Baba's Tahini. Brendan tells of how he went from playing in a band with eventual Umphrey's McGee bassist Ryan "Pony" Stasik, to forming Umphrey's McGee. He explains his thinking behind the pivotal and selfless choice to extract Jake Cinninger from the charred ruins of Ali Baba's Tahini and bring him into the Umphold. We also hear the story of how Vince Iwinski became the band's manager, and how former front of house engineer Kevin Browning's shift to management has greatly benefitted the band. Brendan also elaborates on the beauty of gradual growth, and the not-so-beautiful way Steve Miller behaved like an asshole at Christmas Jam a few years back. Episode also includes multiple mentions of Marc Maron's interview with Derek Trucks. Why? Because it was superb. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
In this second episode with Ryan Stasik (bassist for the band Umphrey’s McGee), we tap into a lot of things left untapped from our 1st episode. We start off with his time in school at Notre Dame, his hard work at school, if nothing else, to put together a band.We spent a good deal of time talking about sports: both actual real life sports and the very addicting life of fantasy sports. He lays out what the guys in the band (and some of the crew) are into, regarding sports and teams. We break down how we feel about the Wild Card situation in the MLB. We go through our own (possibly outlandish) ideas for how to “Make Baseball Fun Again”.Before we circled back to the world of sports, we spent a good deal discussing his musical background and what he grew up listening to. He tells a story about how he decided he needed to get into playing guitar instead of piano in the early 90’s. We get to hear about his transition to the bass guitar and some key decisions that took place between Brendan Bayliss and himself. We share stories about the Grateful Dead, Phish and the communities of fans that surround both bands.Ryan credits Jake Cinninger with bringing a huge variance of music to the bandmates to expand the things they’ve been musically marinated with. Ryan goes into a little of what he is listening to these days, what bands or kinds of music speak to him. After some of his wild predictions about Pittsburgh teams, we finish up with talking about some of the dangers in sports and fights in hockey.A great time was had talking with Ryan and I hope you enjoy the listen as much as I enjoyed the chat.Daddy Unscripted can also be found at:iTunes | Stitcher Radio | Google PlayTwitter: @DaddyUnscriptedFacebook: Daddy Unscriptedwww.daddyunscripted.comAll music proudly provided with a partnership by Umphrey’s McGee.You can send questions and suggestions for future guests to our podcast/blog website at www.daddyunscripted.com Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/daddyunscripted.
