In this inspiring episode, Jo Bradshaw reflects on the power of kindness, both to others and to oneself, and how it shapes our personal and professional lives. Jo shares her journey from feeling disconnected in school to becoming a guide who empowers others to climb their own “Everests.” She emphasizes the importance of making conscious choices, building habits, and giving people the agency to succeed. Key Themes: Kindness as a Choice Jo talks about kindness as a deliberate action, extending to interactions with both people and animals. She highlights how empathy and connection are central to this practice. A student's reflection on attitude and choice reaffirmed her belief that kindness is a habit—one that requires regular practice, like any other. Kindness in Leadership In her work with students and as an expedition guide, Jo underscores the significance of kindness in leadership. Her aim is not to be remembered for getting clients to the summit, but for empowering them to reach their goals independently, with her support providing them with the tools and agency to succeed. Overcoming Past Challenges Jo reflects on her past experiences of bullying and how she overcame defensive, reactive behaviours. She encourages listeners not to let their past define them, urging them to surround themselves with positive influences and to move forward as victors, not victims. Self-Kindness and Self-Talk Jo discusses her journey towards self-kindness, focusing on reframing her inner dialogue. Just as she encourages and supports others, she realised the importance of offering herself that same level of compassion. She believes that self-kindness is foundational; without it, it's difficult to fully extend kindness to others. The Power of Champions Jo highlights the crucial role a “champion” played in her life—someone who believed in her and motivated her to stop making excuses. Now, she strives to be that champion for others, inspiring them to take the first step towards achieving their ambitions, whether in mountaineering or life. Resources: Website -

I seriously COULD NOT put this book down...not only does she reveal some harrowing details of the mountains she has summited, but also her struggle to figure out just WHY she is here in this world (a struggle I assume most of us are familiar with!) The book is funny, charming and absolutely worth the read...and I do NOT say that about every book! Please click on the link above to read more about this delightful human being! As well, Dr. Erica shares her struggles after her education in Germany, her travails at Antioch College and that one MIRACLE when her life was spared after her oven blew up (I will let Erica tell that one). Suffice it to say, there is an absolute reason the world needs Dr. Erica, and you'll understand why, after you listen! (It might have to do with her sense of humor, her smarts, and her indefatigable spirit, but what do I know?) To read more about her, click on her website here! “When you stop using the word can't and start using the word can, you'll soon realise that the person you thought you were is no match for the one that you really are.” In this episode of Tales to Inspire, Steve Hill shares his incredible journey from teaching to tackling some of the world's toughest challenges. Born and raised in Oldham, Steve has spent 28 years teaching, believing it to be the greatest privilege to inspire young minds. Steve's path changed after an unsatisfying stint as a quantity surveyor. His mother's advice to take action led him to try teaching, where he discovered his passion for guiding students through growth and teamwork. A moment of introspection 15 years ago led Steve to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, showing his students that he lived by the inspirational quotes in his classroom. This adventure was the first of many, including Mount Blanc, the Sahara Desert, the Arctic, and the Amazon jungle ultra-marathon. Each year, his students followed his journeys, learning about resilience and determination. Steve's challenges also supported various charities, nominated by his students. A memorable experience in Uganda, where a young boy shared his ice cream with Steve during a marathon, inspired him to establish the Team Hill Charitable Trust. The charity supports schools and clinics in Uganda and children and families in northwest England. During the lockdown, Steve wrote a book about his adventures, which captivated his students and further solidified his role as an inspirational figure. As he transitions from teaching, Steve aims to inspire thousands more through his charity, showing children that with hard work and big dreams, they can overcome any obstacle. Tune in to hear Steve Hill's journey, filled with adventure and the belief that when you start using the word “can,” you'll discover a new version of yourself. Stealth: A Transmasculine Podcast

Jesse was born and raised - and still lives - in the Virginia hills known as the Appalachians. The when and where of Jesse's trans coming of age story, was not an environment that supported gender fluidity or genderqueerness. Most of the Appalachian people still see things in binaries. Black White. Male Female, or at the very least Butch Femme. Jesse was featured in the YouTube series “Climbing Mountains” by Trans ilient featuring Trans Appalachians' stories. Jesse identifies as male, but also relates to the genderqueer, non binary and feels that maybe if he was born twenty years later his path would have been different, but he is happy with his own path and journey.

James Robson from the Atlanta law firm of Glass Robson joins this weeks podcast in another great episode. James and his partner, Robert Glass, met in Law School and 10 years ago started their own personal injury firm. James has a diverse background working for one of the largest defense firms in the state and also two of the most successful Plaintiffs lawyers in the state. James talks about how these prior experiences shaped the lawyer he is, the law firm he has created and the way he approaches his case. By way of an example, James recently secured a $4M+ jury verdict. We talk all about this car wreck case and get into the weeds of the trial. James talks about his preparation, strategy and the arguments that resonated with the jury. We talk about what makes a case go to trial and how to prepare clients for the experience. We talk about the appeal process and what it means when a case “is appealed” after a big verdict. Outside of the office James is an adventurous guy. Always looking for his next challenge, James has completed 4 marathons and has now turned his attention to mountain climbing. And not the “hiking” version but the mountaineering version with handholds, footholds and all the things. James just returned from the Grand Tetons and he tells us the itinerary and the process to reach the summit up 13,000 feet. How does a 400-pound cripple living in constant pain become an avid mountain climber and a triathlete? Here to tell his story and inspire everyone that change is possible is Tim Kaufman. Tim was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) in his early twenties and lived in chronic pain most of his life. By the time he was 37, he was addicted to Fentanyl, alcohol, and fast food. Weighing over 400 pounds, Tim could not perform simple daily tasks and was almost immobile. He had lost his interest in life and had almost given up. Losing two people close to their hearts to deadly diseases, Tim's wife feared that he would be the next. That was the turning point for Tim.  He started a journey to regain his health, changing one small thing at a time. As a result, Tim is now an athlete who thrives on a plant-based whole food lifestyle and leads a healthy, happy, and active life free of all medications he was once on. He now helps others find health and happiness with the firm belief that “change is out there for anyone.”    Tim also wrote the following books: Fat Man's Essential 40 Plant-Based Recipes: Quick and Easy Plant-Based Food (Fat Man's Recipes Book 1) Fat Man's Not So Fancy 40 Plant-Based Recipes: Quick and Easy Plant-Based Food (Fat Man's Food Book 2)  Triathlon Training Journal: 90 Days of Journaling   Tune in to hear Tim's powerful and transformative journey in today's episode.   What we discuss in this episode:  Tim shares his condition as a child and how it led him to live a life of physical and emotional pain. What impact would the same diagnosis have on a person excited to live life? Short answer - it would be like a death sentence. What was the turning point for Tim? Tim remembers his experience with the “juice fast” - the first 3 days felt terrible! When did Tim's reliance on drugs end, and what were the challenges in quitting fast food consumption? The destructive effects of dairy, the strangest thing about dairy farming, and Tim's relationship with animals before and after becoming vegan. What attracted Tim to climb mountains?
