The episode, recorded live at the We Work Well spa event at Chateau Elan, offers a dual perspective on the future of wellness. James discusses how Equinox is evolving its spa offerings across over 90 properties with a focus on performance, biohacking, and accessibility. Greg shares his journey from the supplier side of the industry to launching a cutting-edge wellness facility based on intention, technology, and personal reinvention. This episode reveals how two leaders are shaping wellness spaces that respond to modern health demands, staffing limitations, and shifting consumer expectations. Why It Matters: As wellness merges with fitness and personal optimization, both guests demonstrate how vision, adaptability, and innovation are crucial to staying ahead in a rapidly evolving industry. 14 August 2022. Yielding Wild Grapes When I was in seminary, I was introduced to Chateau Elan Winery & Resort. This place well above my pay grade Spanning 3,500 acres of rolling hills and wooded forests, Chateau Elan reigns as North Georgia's premier destination resort. A favorite for weekend getaways, corporate retreats, and everything in between, this sprawling property features stunning indoor and outdoor event spaces, multiple restaurants fine dining, professionally staffed golf and tennis clubs, a world-class spa, and more. Oh, it is really nice visiting this place is like going to another country and being wrapped in luxury. When You set in the retirants' they put the napkin in your lap and bring a little bowel to the table to wash your hands before you eat. And oh, how beautiful the grounds and the gardens and vineyards are all around the small villas you sleep in. But who would pay $400 to $800 a night if the wine vineyards were run down and the building were moldy and trash was all over the place. I was watching the local news this week and they were showing this sister that went to the Myrtle beach for a girls retreat and the hotel room they were staying in was run down and she tweeted a video of the walls with the green mildew all over they place, she was so upset she would even take the video down to get her money back. What is, is what should be: in other words what you claim to be is what you should be. Vineyards are aesthetically beautiful places. They have beautiful greenery, well-manicured lawns, and rows of grapevines. They are exquisite and breathtaking. The rolling hills are marvelous to see. In biblical days, a vineyard was a prized possession. They were well taken care of. It took a great deal to take care of them. There was always the nurturing of the grapes or whatever fruit was featured. This tending to the vineyard was all orchestrated for one thing: grapes—fresh, whole, round, perfect grapes. Workers in the vineyard were meticulous and detailed in their care. However, God speaks of grapes gone wild. There is no excuse for wild grapes. They've been watered, given good shade to not be parched by the sun. They've been given the best environment for growth. So, it's not adding up. Why has God's vineyard, a beautiful masterpiece, somehow led to the production of wild grapes? These grapes in this song of Isaiah were not sufficient, healthy, or wholesome for their intended use. This would not be the last time God was disappointed by fruit. You'll recall Jesus while on a journey walked up to a fig tree that looked like it was ready for the picking, but it was not. Jesus was seemingly angry at the tree for false advertising. The tree was presenting an appearance that didn't match its reality. This too was a lesson. Today, our vineyards are buildings gardens, and sometimes even fields. For some of Us churches in some cases are Vineyards. Big Churches with Sanctuaries that have major lighting and technology packages and cafés and eateries to enjoy one's sojourn there. The visuals can be breathtaking, and clearly the buildings are well-cared for. These type of major ministries should have fruit that changes folk's lives, these major vineyards of churches should have children's ministries, senior ministries, houseless ministries, poverty ministries, health care ministries, and even Job growth development ministries. But A lot of the time what we find is wild grapes. Many of times what the community finds in our modern day vineyards of Methodism is garbage Grapes. Let's look at these Wild Grapes. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rev-hooker/support

Sarah Tucker takes a trip down under to Sydney’s winter and the annual drama that is the Vivid Festival. Sydney becomes a living firework for three weeks during the Vivid Festival www.vividsydney.com (https://www.vividsydney.com/) . due to celebrate its 12th anniversary in 2020. Known for the best New Year fireworks in the world over Sydney bridge, the festival makes the most of its iconic Opera House and harbour to shower the skies and waters with light and music during the Autumn months of May and June, which is still usually brighter, warmer and dryer than the English early summer. The opera house ‘sails’ are lit by Andrew Thomas Huang and ‘choreographed’ the wonderfully named Toogie Barcelo, where images and colours merge into others, trees become dragons, stars become street dancers all set on a large scale with the backdrop of the bridge on one side and tropical gardens on the other. The overall effect is like looking at something out of Bladerunner. Concerts boast performances as diverse as Herbie Hancock and The Cure to Underworld and Hayden James. (sydneyoperahouse.com) Spend a week or two around the city centre and interesting suburbs of Redfern and Chippendale, made infamous by the indigenous demonstrations against marginalisation in 2018 where ‘gentrification’ of the area marginalised the indigenous people who lived there. The demonstrations have gone but there is still ill feeling towards a government that continues to ignore the rights of the people who were there before the English arrived. Its not banker country yet, but the students and creatives (the artists, poets, authors) have moved in, and with them brought colour and gentle renovation to the area. I took a trip with culture tours guide Greg (http://www.culturescouts.com.au), who is a colourful artist living in the area and walked round the streets, walls covered with dramatic and beautiful murals, intriguing internationally recognised art galleries and funky restaurants housed in buildings which were abattoirs, breweries and gangsters. It has a San Francisco edge about it, with its incredible architecture and heritage buildings, a far cry from the sand and surfing Sydney. Neighbouring Chippendale has recently undergone urban transformation, with sky scrapers with the largest walled gardens in the world, and areas which look as though they’ve been there for decades only to be told it’s a few years. Art Deco hotels which wouldn’t look out of place in Miami, and a china town which looks as established as our own but is only a few years old, make this tour a must do for anyone wanting an alternative Sydney. It may not have the culture and street symmetry of Melbourne, but it's Melbourne that has a chip on its shoulder about Sydney – not the other way round. Vivid is not just about fireworks, light shows and music. There are plenty of bright sparks in human form giving talks during the festival. Vivid Ideas offers future facing talks, hands on workshops and industry shaping forums. The year I was there I watched game changers Spike Lee and Ester Perel speak to hundreds challenging the assumptions on race and relationships. I listened to Dr Stefan Hajkowicz, an internationally talk about the dark net and digital future. And another group of five women talking how science has shaped their life as marine archeologists (why the Titanic will never rise), forensic scientists in zoos (wildlife crime is the fasting growing global crime), and astro physicists showing how and why the stars above our heads at night ‘fall in love’. Fascinating and important stuff. If you want a break from the city, head out two hour drive to wine region of Hunter Valley and stay at the Chateau Elan (http://www.chateauelan.com.au). Visit the nearby vineyards of Brokenwood (brokenwood.com.au), Tulloch (tullochwines.com) and my personal favourite Usher Tinkler wines (http://www.ushertinklerwines.com) - small but perfectly formed and with a pub buzz and playing Home Cooking by DJ Yoda while you taste the tipple. Ask for Luke Mulligan to talk you through the wines. An epic experience. Stay sober enough for an early morning (five am) rise to balloon flight 800 kilometres at 2800 feet above the vineyards and kangaroos (www.balloonaloft.com). Watch the mist rise and colours scorch the sky, and then head to the Peterson House restaurant for full English (vege option) with local bubbles. It is the most haunting, mesmeric experience, and the Hunter Valley morning sky shows just how nature creates the best fireworks of its own should we choose to get up early enough. Ask for Sam to be your guide and the purple and green balloon (they have a pink one too). If you prefer to have your fun down on the ground, visit Port Stephens and the largest moving coastal sandmass in the Southern Hemisphere. Take a camel ride at dusk (Oakfield Ranch Camel Rides.com, or quad bikes (sandduneadventures.com.au) over the dunes. Take a glance at the ocean along the beach, where you’ll see dolphins, whales and in season, lots of Great Whites (a tourist was eaten there last Christmas). Vivid is designed to make you smile and dance, to make you think deeper and more creatively open your eyes with its light and music but it’s the landscape and seascape which is the real cool of the vivid experience. Sarah stayed at the Four Seasons (http://www.fourseasons.com/Sydney) hotel and Ovolo (http://www.ovolohotels.com.au/ovolowoolloomooloo/) , both a boomerang away from the Opera House and Botanical Gardens. This is my long overdue update on what's happening in my running. Ran a trail race at Chateau Elan and injured myself. Therefore my Half Marathon on December 17th is now in jeopardy. Actually it is more out of the question now. I am going to see if I can switch to the Virtual option of the race, which will give me more time to recover hopefully. I went out to Stone Mountain to see if I could even run since I haven't been able to run since Nov. 18th. I managed to get in a 35 minute run/walk and felt encouraged but realized that the Half is really not doable in December. I Have to get into some serious rehab for my leg. "The most entertaining weight loss and fitness show on radio." Please click on the POD button to listen to the latest Dr. Fitness and the Fat Guy radio show. On tonight's show, Doctor Fitness and the Fat Guy get the skinny about the only weight loss board game from Vicki Sorenson creator of The Fitness Challenge. We also spoke with Fran Powell with the Painmaster Patch who shared how his product can help treat a wide range of injuries and painful conditions. Then we spoke with Michelle Ufer-Herold the Spa Director at Chateau Elan, Atlanta's best kept spa and resort secret. Everyone knows that losing weight is difficult because it is so tough to stick with your exercise program for any length of time. That's where The Fitness Challenge comes in. This game is for any age or fitness level. Players compete against each other during their 8 week game. Exercise 3 times in a week and you get a bunch of stars. The player with the most stars wins a prize. And this is where the fun comes in, the loser has to pay up. That could mean washing the winner's car, cleaning their house or babysitting their kid. This game is a great way to keep compliant. Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy are about to go head to head and give it a try. Check out Vicki's website www.fitnesschallenge.com for more information and all the places you can get the game. Vicki lost 60 pounds on it! When Dr Fitness took his girlfriend to the Chateau Elan for a romantic getaway he was blown away by the great food, the relaxing atmosphere and the superb service. He and his girlfriend left relaxed, recharged and refreshed. Michelle Ufer-Herold, the Spa Director shared some of the services and events that the doctor missed. For instance, each year you can stomp the grapes at the award winning vineyard that is on site. They also have a heated indoor pool, golf, tennis and horses for your pleasure. There is so much more to see and do, please check out their website www.chateauelan.com and see for yourself. They are having Valentine's Day specials so be sure to think of that if you want to be a star for your significant other this V-Day. As you know Dr Fitness is a chiropractor and he helps people deal with pain on a regular basis. He came across the Painmaster patch and he can't stop talking about it. This small portable device uses micro current therapy which uses small pulsating currents of electricity that cannot be felt on the afflicted area in order to alleviate the pain. You just slap a couple of these patches on the area that hurts and forgot about it for a few hours. Then low and behold you will be amazed at the improvement in the pain. It is common for patients to have pain at an 8 level when they go to sleep then wake up and the pain is down to a 3 or 4 level when they use the patches. Only doctors can prescribe this therapy so be sure to ask your doctor about it. If they have any questions they and you can check out Fran's websites www.painmastercanada.com or www.painmasterpatch.com Fran said that if you want to try the device risk free have your physician send an email to chris at painmasterproducts dot com and (for a limited time) he will send a device to your doctor for you to try at no charge. This device does a great job at reducing inflammation and helping injured cells to heal. Dr. Fitness also chimed in with his tips about what to do if you have a lot of weight to lose. Here are a few of Dr. Fitness' tips...Number 1, set short term goals. Number 2, manage your expectations...you didn't gain the weight in 30 days and you definitely won't lose the weight in 30 days. And Number 3, don't have an all or nothing mentality. If you only have time to exercise for 10 minutes do that...a little bit each day is better than nothing. There was a lot more from Dr. Fitness, so you will have to listen to the show to find out all the rest of these great tips. And I'm sure he'll post all the tips on his blog. The doctor also announced that he has been chosen to be an expert on the Fit America contest.
