Send us a textIn this episode we talk with pro trail runner and SubHub Podcast co-host, Dani Moreno about:How a running break between college and her pro career helped reignite her passion for runningHer nutrition strategies, and how they've changed as she's evolved as a runner, including through an eating disorder in her youthHer love and gratitude for sportDani Moreno is a pro trail runner residing in the Eastern Sierra mountain town of Mammoth Lakes, CA. She moved to the mountains at the end of 2020 from the coastal town of Santa Barbara, where she lived for a decade. While at UC Santa Barbara, she competed for the women's Cross Country and Track and Field programs, producing times that made her competitive on the conference and national level. After college, she took a break from running to rediscover herself, leaning into outdoor guiding and things like climbing, spearfishing, motorcycle riding and other activities that pushed her to her physiological limits. She found nothing gave her quite the same satisfaction as running and began dabbling in trail running, which reignited her passion. Soon she was exploring the Los Padres National Forest's front range on her off days. Trail running immediately appealed to all aspects of her personality in a way that no other type of running had before. As she began to race trails, new opportunities arose and doors opened. She began traveling all over the world, feeling gratitude the whole way. That feeling hasn't quit since 2016. Since her debut to the sport, she has exploded on the sub-ultra and ultra scene, with an incredible number of podium and top 10 finishes, including being the top American at UTMB's World Championship OCC race in Chamonix in August 2024, a top 5 finish at the 2024 Broken Arrow Skyrace 26k, 1st at Canyons Endurance Race, 1st at Kodiak Ultra Marathon 50k in 2023, 2nd at Mammoth Trailfest 26k in 2023, and many others. Please note that this podcast is created strictly for educational purposes and should never be used for medical diagnosis or treatment.Connect w/ Dani: @dan_yell_aSub Hub Podcast (Listen to Kyla's episode here)Mentioned:Adidas TerrexNeverSecondBobo's BarsKodiak OaMORE NR New customers save 10% off all products on our website with the code NEWPOD10 If you would like to work with our practitioners, click here: https://nutritional-revolution.com/work-with-us/ Save 20% on all supplements at our trusted online source: https://us.fullscript.com/welcome/kchannell Join Nutritional Revolution's The Feed Club to get $20 off right away with an additional $20 Feed credit drop every 90 days.: https://thefeed.com/teams/nutritional-revolution Interested in blood testing?

Working with the land, tuning into the pulse of place - the Aztecs knew what was up. They were engineering geniuses who worked with the lake around which Tenochtitlan (ancient Mexico City) was built to create a rich permaculture system - chinampas - fringed by canals and waterways. When the Spanish landed and took over they didn't get it. They said ‘drain that lake', make this place make sense - and the city has been sinking at a terrifying rate ever since. Despite the atypical build, Dani nearly nabbed an OTQ time at the Ventura Half Marathon several weeks ago. In this episode she details her recent training, her spectacular race at Ventura, her strategy for Boston, and her race weekend logistics. Finally, Dani talks about her new podcast, Sub Hub, that you can find on your favorite podcast provider.

As a newly minted thirty-year-old, Dani Moreno has already been racing trails professionally for the better part of a decade. Over the last couple of years, she's solidified her status as one of the world's best sub-ultra distance trail runners, a position she's reached through patience, consistency, and an intuitive knowledge of exactly the right time to give it some gas. This approach continued to pay dividends in 2022; Dani finished in podium position at both the Mont Blanc Marathon and OCC, two marquee international races historically swept by euros. As the calendar ticked over into 2023, we sat down with her to recap a few memorable performances from the previous year; discuss how she mended her broken relationship with running after graduating from college; offer some beta on spearfishing, of all things; and a whole lot more. Meet Dani Moreno, 3rd place woman at UTMB OCC, the FIRST American to make the podium! Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (OCC-Orsières-Champex-Chamonix) is a 55km race with 3500M+ of climbing and is one of seven races featured in the event that takes place annually at Chamonix in France. Dani found herself in 20th place in the first half as she began the climb up Champex & moved into 15th place when she crested the top. Despite being so far back at this point, Dani never lost faith, kept grinding, and battled her way all the way to the podium! "It's one thing to have the race plan, but to actually be on the starting line and trust the plan. The plan was to build confidence throughout the race because I race more ferociously and fierce when I'm building confidence." Dani's inspiring story is one of patience, self-belief, trusting the process, and having huge gratitude for family, friends, and sponsors who love and support her journey. It began 5 years ago when she met and formed a powerful partnership with her coach, Terry Howell, who believed in her from their 1st meeting. I'm so excited to continue following Dani's ascent in the world of Ultra running! Existen 6 emociones universales: Tristeza, Rabia, Miedo, Orgullo, Alegría y Amor.

Dani Moreno is a professional trail runner sponsored by shoe company Hoka One One, as well as a female run apparel brand named rabbit. Can you elaborate further on that? What was the transition like to post-collegiate running? What drew you to trail running? How was that transition? You wrote a powerful blog post about looking like a “true runner.” Can you elaborate further on your intention behind writing this post? In your eyes, what does it mean to be a true runner? What is currently making you thrive in life? What does “a day in the life of Dani” look like? Sounds like The GoPro Mountain Games will be fun!! What is in store for you at that race? What can runners expect? What does being a Strong Runner Chick mean to you? How can listeners connect with you?
