Kristy Norbert, co-founder and executive director of Empowered Network, is a licensed social worker with over 20 years of experience who has developed trauma-informed programs aimed at helping trafficking survivors achieve long-term stability and self-sufficiency. Her insights reveal the critical intersection between human trafficking and mind control, similar to the techniques employed by cult leaders. Empowered Network assists survivors of human trafficking in moving beyond immediate crisis services to achieve long-term stability. I was honored to nominate Felicia Rosario, MD, to get support from the Empowered Network. Felicia was in the Larry Ray cult at Sarah Lawrence that was featured in the Hulu series Stolen Youth. I appeared in the fourth episode, listed under ABC Nightline-Impact Stolen Youth; in that episode, I met Felicia and Daniel Levin, the cult's whistleblower, and talked with them about their experiences. Larry Ray was convicted of trafficking and is in jail for the rest of his life. I am happy to say Felicia is returning to become a forensic psychiatrist and will attend the IALMH.org congress with me this July 22-26th in Barcelona.  Learn more about Steven Hassan and Freedom of Mind Resource Center. Today, Hulu releases a 3-episode doc series called “Stolen Youth,” directed by Zach Heinzerling. The pole star for this low-dopamine, low-cortisol, non-true-crime, survivor-centred documentary is Daniel Levin's painful and radiant memoir, Slonim Woods 9. In 2010, Levin was drawn into an extended-family domestic abuse group led by Larry Ray, the father of one of his friends at Sarah Lawrence College. It took him years to leave, years to begin to recover, and years to become the de facto subject coordinator for this film. Matthew talks with Zach and Daniel about what it takes to really listen to survivors of group abuse, and how the arts of memoir and documentary can be doorways to reconnection and integration. In an interview debrief, Julian and Matthew discuss why reviewing Stolen Youth is such a relief in the current Wild West cultsploitation landscape. Well-told stories in this zone—and we need more of them—educate, de-sensationalize, and de-stigmatize. They humanize every step of the journey: from recruitment, to enmeshment, to complicity, to recovery, to creativity. Daniel Levin is an award-winning writer living in Los Angeles. He holds an MFA in poetry from the University of California, Irvine, where he taught creative writing and rhetoric. His writing has appeared in Provincetown Arts, The Sarah Lawrence Review, The Westchester Review, and The Bennington Review. During his time at Sarah Lawrence College Dan, as a 19-year-old sophomore got involved with Larry Ray the leader of what turned out to be a dangerous cult. Dan has written about these harrowing experiences in his new memoir SLONIM WOODS 9 A stunning firsthand account of the creation of a modern cult and the costs paid by its young victims. In the first half of their two-part conversation, Daniel shares with Rachel how he first came into contact with Larry Ray the dangerous cult leader, currently on federal trial for sex trafficking, extortion, conspiracy, and a string of other crimes. He discusses how Larry was able to evade detection on campus even while living in dormitories. Together Rachel and Daniel examine what he was feeling as he fell under the control of this manipulative and dangerous man, pointing out the red flags and explaining what prevented him from seeing them at the time. In his new book Proof of Life, American author Daniel Levin dives into the Syrian shadows - an underground industry of war where everything is for sale: arms, drugs, even people. In this thriller/memoir he draws on his perceptions and experience as a a lawyer turned armed conflict negotiator who, for the past twenty years, has worked with governments and development institutions worldwide. After a fairly worldly upbringing, he served in the Israeli Special Forces, studied law, taught in Arabic, and now uses his extensive Middle Eastern contacts and cultural understanding for diplomatic and mediation efforts as well. In this interview, I showed up for the story of a Syrian hostage negotiation, and stayed for the wide-ranging discussion of the importance of historical context in any conflict resolution and the potential institutional reforms that must also take that into consideration. We talked about the government/ruling situation in Afganistan, Lebanon, and Isreal - and the author's uncanny sense of smell. More about Daniel Levin ---> https://www.daniellevinauthor.comResources mentioned:Lichtenstein Foundation for State GovernanceEmpire of the Summer Moon, S. Daniel Bruce Levin walked away from a huge opportunity (to work his way up from pushing a broom to running a billion-dollar business), to hitchhike around the world to find happiness and inner peace. His life has been dedicated to finding the peace and contentment that comes from truly knowing yourself. His mission has become holding the space for others to find that peace too. One day away from being ordained a Rabbi in Jerusalem, Israel, Levin left to come back to America. In this week's adventures, Taylor talks to Danny Levin, author and visionary of the book 'The Mosaic', about the ways in which humanity and society connect through energy, and how the world can come together in beautiful ways if we truly listen to each other. KEY TAKEAWAYS Ultimately, we will become one self, and the other selves we have inhabited during our journey through life will become the fondly remembered pieces of a person we once were. When we can walk into a conversation with no agenda, and truly listen to what others are saying, and when we can embrace another person despite differing opinions or belief, we achieve true love. Most of the problems in the world could be completely resolved if we could only learn how to listen to each other. Our minds search constantly for the formula to life, but our hearts are happy to experience each moment as though newborn. BEST MOMENTS 'Everything I'm experiencing right now is that there's one beautiful self' 'It's this beautiful feeling of love' 'I don't love them for what they believe - I love them for who they are' 'Hidden in the voices of those who disagree with us are the things that we can't see' VALUABLE RESOURCES The Adventures Of Self Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/the.adventures.of.self/ Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/The.Adventures.of.Self The Mosaic by Daniel B Levin (Amazon) Daniel Levin - https://danielbrucelevin.com ABOUT THE GUEST Danny Levin walked away from an opportunity to run a billion dollar business, to hitchhike around the world to find happiness and inner peace. What does it feel like when someone truly listens, and receives, you with their unconditional self? Your entire body relaxes and your cares drip away. It's the unicorn variety of listening where you know in your heart the person doesn't need a list of accomplishments in order to view you as 'worthy of their time'.If you haven't experienced being listened to in this way before, imagine it for just a moment. What would that FEEL like for you in your body? When I first heard Daniel speak, I found myself listening in a way I don't usually. I leaned in closer (to the computer screen). I didn't think about what I would say in response or even whether I agreed or disagreed with what he was saying. None of that seemed to matter at that moment in time while I was listening.I simply followed the melodic cadence of this voice. There's a catharsis of the art of listening. I was transported to a realm where love and hate were one and the same and wholeness was the flavor of the century. Authentic, unconditionally, listening truly is an art form; we all could use some practice. Before you read these show notes, I ask you to listen to the podcast first with a focus on expanding your awareness of how you feel. How does the energy feel in your body when you drop all pretenses and just listen? What happens inside when you move out of your mental space and into your energy body? Both Daniel and I would love to know what came up for you when you listened to this podcast. Leave us a comment. We will listen, unconditionally. Daniel Bruce Levin walked away from a huge opportunity (to work his way up from pushing a broom to running a billion dollar business), to hitchhike around the world to find happiness and inner peace. His life has been dedicated to finding the peace and contentment that comes from truly knowing yourself. His mission has become holding the space for others to find that peace too. One day away from being ordained a Rabbi in Jerusalem, Israel, Levin left to come back to America. He opened a cafe and bookstore in San Francisco and then went to live for 10 years in a Monastery in the Foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains as a Monk . He became the Director of Business Development at Hay House and played a big part in helping it grow from $3,000,000 to $100,000,000 over the next 10 years. Levin is a rare blend of mystic and businessman; he believes it is his ability to see things from different perspectives that draws people and companies to work with him and it is what brings him his greatest joy. He is the author of THE MOSAIC, a beautiful fable that touches the heart and soothes the soul, but to this day, he feels he is not the author. He knows it was the characters of the fable that actually wrote this story. to learn more about me, please go to: https://www.DanielBruceLevin.com https://www.TheMosaicOnline.Com www.TheMosaicPodcast.com https://www.TheMosaicOnline.com/Conversations to get The Mosaic, please go to: https://themosaiconline.com/shop/ or go to amazon: http://a.co/dvgsgG3 to join THE MOSAIC/HIITIDE book club https://hiitide.com/crews/themosaic to subscribe to my YouTube channel, please go here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVQAe3mbYOT0AFY6Zr-xskg?view_as=subscriber

I do organizational psychology with companies; one form of that or another. I'm doing exactly what my life was set up to do.” – Daniel Levin “My belief system is, I can never be great doing someone else's life." – Daniel Levin “Who cares how many times we fall. At the end of the day, the only thing that is important is that we got up one more time than we fell. That is all that matters.” – Daniel Levin “Your humility is beautiful. But never allow it to become a hiding place for you to shrink from your greatness. It is time to do what you were created to do.” – Daniel Levin from his book The Mosaic “So many of the people that I met, and I helped to become really big people lost the sweetness and the innocence and the beauty of who they were, and they started to believe the press clippings of who they had become.” – Daniel Levin   Resources Mentioned: danielbrucelevin.com   The Mosaic by Daniel Levin The Mosaic Podcast   Linkedin for Daniel Levin
