Chaz and AJ asked their friend and retired Stamford Fire Chief Tom G to handle Top 10 duties this morning. Tom talked to the Tribe about the most useful tools that firefighters have at their disposal while on the job. (0:00)  Bruce Stephan is a survivor of the 9/11 attacks, and shared his story with Chaz and AJ this morning. Bruce and his wife were in different buildings that morning, and it was hours of anxiety and no communication before they were reunited. (4:43)  Dave Russell was in NYC on 9/11, responding with Engine 62, Ladder 32 to the World Trade Center. Dave and his fellow firefighters had to commandeer a city bus, and drive towards the scene without a proper fire engine or a clear idea of what they would be arriving to. (16:51)  Rory Thompson with the Bethel Fire Department was on the phone this morning, to talk about his time volunteering on the pile, immediately following the collapse of the World Trade Center. (37:01)  Chaz and AJ were taking calls from the Tribe, who shared their stories from 9/11. Alicia in Oxford remembers her brother calling her on his way to the Oxford airport, which was considered to be a safe option for potentially important aircraft to land. (48:15)

That decline shows up among threatened species as well as among birds we might find in our backyards like sparrows or woodpeckers. One way scientists track the size and health of bird populations is through bird banding and that's the focus of this episode of Stats and Stories with guest Dave Russel Our guest today is Dave Russell.  Russell is an Associate Teaching Professor in Miami University's Department of Biology and co-founder of the Avian Research and Education Institute. He's also a master bird bander, which means he can work with federally protected birds and train others to become bird banders.
