Nic and Tarina open the episode talking about their trip to Aruba. Nic comments on how he got a little sunburned—even after applying sunscreen every hour. And Tarina cringed at how their swimsuits were too matchy-matchy.Be sure to listen to the surprise Tarina found for Nic: An inflatable butt-mat. “Seat cushion,” Tarina corrects him. The question behind “What drives you?” is “Why do you do what you do?” Tarina became a nurse because she wanted to help people. Nic is a speaker because he wants to make a difference. Nic quotes his son, Cruze, from one of his TikTok videos: “The fastest way to kill something is to compare it something else.”We can easily fall into the trap of bigger is better or more is better. The first step is to look back before you look forward. Nic shares how he was always chasing money but then spoke to a high school graduating class. It's where he felt the most alive and it fueled his drive. If you're looking for your why, remember that “purpose leaves clues in our past” and tied to our emotions. This week we are discussing ‘How Much Change Can My Kids Take?' with Kyle Cruze. Our kids have experienced so much change already, and we know stability is important. How much change can they endure before there are lasting consequences? Kyle is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Tennessee. Since graduate school, Kyle has dedicated almost all his professional time to working with adolescent/teenage boys and their families. Recognizing the huge need that boys have for clarity and guidance, Kyle has sat with hundreds of kids and their parents with the goal of helping them navigate through the difficult and confusing aspects of this culture and life. His early lessons in life and relationships came through the paradigm of athletics. Kyle was blessed with the opportunity to play basketball all four years he was in college. It was through those experiences on and off the court that much of his curiosity and interest in people and their stories began. Prior to moving into full-time private practice, Kyle worked at a residential treatment center with high school boys and their families who were struggling with substance abuse and addiction. During these years, Kyle also frequently spoke at national conferences, local schools, and parent groups. Kyle was born and raised in Knoxville, TN. It was there that he met his wife Kristen who is a Franklin, TN native. Together they have two boys and a girl. Tarina and Nic spent time with Elle and Cruze over spring break. Nic comments on how expensive it is to feed his son, the carnivore. Not even the beans and rice at Chipotle. He then rants about how some people don't know the rules of airline travel. Tarina's water bottle—which does not leak—was placed in the overhead bin. You can guess what happened next. Together they discuss Malcolm Gladwell's book Outliers and the 10,000-hour rule—and how you have to put in the time. The important example from the book are the Beatles and how they had performed 1200 live concerts before going big. “What we don't see,” Nic says, “is the hours of time, the headache, the practice that it takes to be great at what you do.” He recalls his conversation with Manley Feinberg and the training work he did for Menards. As Manley said, putting in the reps made him a more successful speaker. Tarina talks about the book Grit Don't Quit—and what to do in the waiting. “Get out. Work out. Clean out.” Paying your dues requires wisdom to reach mastery, but it's not just about being skilled in a trade. Competence also means working on yourself. It means investing your time in you and your relationships. If you enjoy Nic and Tarina's podcast and get something from listening to “all this Nic Bittle Crap,” please hit the like button, share it with a friend, or both. TOPICThis week we are discussing our REWIND episode: “How To Tell If Our Kids Are Ok” with guest Kyle Cruze PAIN POINTOne of the most heart-wrenching parts of parenting is seeing our kids struggle. When our child is dealing with physical pain, we rush to their aid and see what we can do to help. Even if they're insisting they're fine, you know a broken bone when you see it. But, mental health is altogether different. While mental illness can and does present itself physically, so much of anxiety and depression happens inside the mind. Mental health is a serious topic that thankfully has become more widely talked about and acknowledged in recent years. We often feel helpless or unsure of what to do when our child is mentally struggling—especially as solo parents. How do we effectively help our kids deal with anxiety or depression in a healthy way? How can we tell if our kids are okay? We're so excited to revisit this episode. “For functional mushrooms, you need to take a medicinal dose daily for about three weeks to feel something. They do not work instantly. That's a big gap in the market that people don't understand.” —Charlotte Cruze When it comes to wellness, some pairings just make perfect sense. Mushrooms and chocolate may seem an unlikely match made in hedonistic heaven, but their union holds untapped potential. Mushrooms have long been prized for their healing properties across cultures. Science now shows their ability to boost brain health, energy levels, and more. Chocolate, too, has benefits, with flavonoids that uplift mood and antioxidants aplenty. By melding mushrooms' functional powers with chocolate's feel-good compounds, a new generation of treats could emerge. This episode explores the exciting world of functional mushroom chocolate with Charlotte Cruze, the Co-Founder and COO of Alice Mushrooms, a company pioneering the use of functional mushrooms in delicious chocolate formulations. With a master's degree in Food Studies from NYU and over 10 years in the consumer food industry, she is dedicated to educating people about evidence-backed natural wellness solutions. Through her leadership of Alice, Charlotte is helping more individuals harness the profound benefits of functional foods like mushrooms in an enjoyable and effective way. Listen in as Charlotte provides an overview of Alice's three flagship mushroom chocolate products, their thoughtful formulation process to deliver both instant and long-term benefits, and tips for taking the chocolates throughout the day. Justine and Charlotte also discuss partner dynamics in business and the importance of complementing each other's skills, the role of education in spreading awareness of functional mushrooms' profound effects, as well as real customer success stories demonstrating the life-changing impacts of mushrooms. Meet Charlotte: Charlotte Cruze is the co-founder and COO of Alice Mushrooms, a pioneering company crafting functional mushroom chocolates. She holds a master's degree in Food Studies from NYU and has over 10 years of experience in the consumer food industry. Prior to founding Alice, Charlotte worked on early-stage food brands and developed a passion for food's role in wellness. She is an advocate for natural, whole-food solutions and believes in food's power to profoundly impact lives. Under Charlotte's leadership, Alice has launched three flagship mushroom chocolate SKUs focused on energy, sleep, and arousal. She oversees formulation, operations, and education initiatives. Charlotte is dedicated to spreading awareness of functional mushrooms' benefits through delicious products and informative content. When not running Alice, Charlotte enjoys yoga, long-distance cycling, and learning about new functional foods.
If you've dipped your toe into the world of functional, non-psychedelic mushrooms, you've likely seen Alice's chic adaptogenic chocolates grace your social media feed or the shelves of your local boutique grocer—you have Charlotte Cruze to thank for that. In 2022, Cruze and her co-founder Lindsay Goodstein launched Alice with two products: Nightcap, a sleep aid, and Brainstorm, an energy booster. Today, the line has expanded to include an aphrodisiac chocolate called Happy Ending and a limited-edition lingerie collab with Fleur du Mal. But before she was creating mushroom chocolates, Cruze spent most of her career in media at companies such as Refinery29, InsideHook, and NBC. During that time, Cruze realized she loved the food industry, and in the early days of the pandemic, she enrolled in a food studies master's program at NYU with the intention of pivoting her career. From there, she took on a role as the head of operations at meal-kit company Quinn and later led growth at Nutella-alternative brand TBH. While Cruze was still working at TBH, Goodstein, a former pharmaceutical salesperson, tapped her to help build Alice, and the rest is delicious, benefit-packed history.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In this episode, Charlotte Cruze describes the need to find solutions in response to the pharmaceutical industry. As the COO and Co-Founder of Alice Mushrooms, Charlotte believes healthy food should be a source of happiness and health. When her co-founder had an idea to mix mushrooms, fast-acting nootropics, herbal supplements, and the delicious benefits of chocolate together, they created a healthy product that is powerful, purposeful, and accessible. Charlotte shares how Alice Mushrooms contain adaptogens, which pair immediate boosts to cognitive functioning with long-term benefits for a healthier, more joyful way of life. By finding a natural solution to everyday challenges like sleep and focus, each chocolate has the ability to regulate the nervous system and bring homeostasis to the body. Charlotte illustrates the approach, ingredients, and benefits behind their two products, Nightcap and Brainstorm, and the ways specific mushrooms provide immense benefits to nourish brain cells. Plus, we discuss the level of consciousness mushrooms can bring to help heal and nourish our daily lives. Listen in to learn more about how the power of mushrooms can bring homeostasis in support of the mind-body connection as a source of vitality, health, and happiness. Traffic cones are put on the bonnet of cars, which causes the vehicle to stop as the system does not know what to do, but it does not actually damage the car. Treating Porn Addiction Isaiah Cruz Today's interview is going to tread into a very sensitive area. We will be discussing pornography addictions and it may be an area that some may find a little sensitive. If you have young ones around, you may want to pause this until you are able to listen without worrying about the little ones. Yes, it's going to be that kind of interview. Amen! Today's guest is Isaiah Cruz. He is a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner specializing in addiction medicine. He has been helping people, mainly men, to overcome pornography, using medication. Porn addiction is probably the most prevalent addiction in the United States, but is also the greatest addiction not being talked about. It's possible you sit next to someone at work, on the bus or even at church, that has a problem with pornography. Yes, it is that prevalent. Help me welcome to the program, Isaiah Cruz! Isaiah, thank you for taking the time today to discuss this very sensitive topic that is affecting so many people. The first question I always start with is this. Other than that brief information I just shared, can you tell us in your words, “Who is Isaiah Cruz?” Let me just start with this question right up front… Most porn addicts are males. But are there female porn addicts as well? I remember, growing up in the 1970's, if someone wanted to look at porn, buy porn magazines, etc., they had to go to the local corner convenience store (we did not even have 7-11's back then), and hang around the magazine rack until nobody was near you and then grab a magazine and flip through it. But today, porn is available everywhere, even on your phone! How has this availability affected our society today? It's also one of the most profitable things on the Internet, which is one of the reasons they are so prevalent. Many people believe the United States is the leading cause of pornography addiction in the world. Mainly because of Hollywood and the liberal theology that promotes these things, things that God clearly states He hates. Do you have any statistics as they relate to pornography? Is porn a victimless crime? Can you share information on how porn relates to human trafficking? How are kids being affected by pornography? Can you share some warning signs that we should be on the watch for, not just in others, we will get to that in a minute, but let's start with our PERSONAL lives. How can a person know if they have a problem with porn? What about some warning signs that may be observed in others, spouses, friends, even pastors? What about spouses, what should they be watching for and how should they handle this? Does pornography steal intimacy or does it enhance intimacy? Does it create unrealistic expectations in the bedroom? Isaiah, we've discussed how prevalent pornography is, how damaging it is to relationships, etc. You specialize in treating porn addictions with medications. How can porn addictions be treated? Many men may feel a little self-conscious about going to their family doctor and discussing being given this medication. Your organization can do so online, how does that work? How long does it usually take before people see results and what would those results be? Are there any side effects they need to be aware of? Isaiah, this has been truly interesting. I know it's been a couple of years since I had an porn addiction expert on the program and I believe we've just opened the eyes of many new listeners. How can someone get in touch with you if they have any questions or would like more information? I'll put links to all of this down in the show notes below. Folks, as you have heard, porn addiction is dangerous on so many levels. This nation has a porn addiction and it has been covered up because nobody wants to talk about how bad it really is. This “hush-hush” has contributed to the addiction growing to, for lack of a better word, but one that will get
