In Episode 5, we explore Julian of Norwich's Sixth and Seventh Shewings, where she is shown the eternal joy that awaits those who serve God in love, and the mysterious rhythm of spiritual consolation and desolation. Julian reveals that no act of agape love is forgotten, and even our hidden sacrifices are honored by the Lord with lasting joy. She also experiences the rise and fall of spiritual feelings, learning that God remains constant in both peace and pain. Her revelations echo truths later taught by St. Ignatius of Loyola: that spiritual desolation, while permitted, is never without purpose. Through it all, Julian teaches us to remain rooted in God's unchanging love—trusting that His presence holds us through every joy and trial The post Ep 5 – The 6th and 7th Shewing – All Shall Be Well w/ Kris McGregor – Discerning Hearts Catholic Podcasts appeared first on Discerning Hearts Catholic Podcasts.

Alfred Ip talks to Film Director Ray Yeung about his life story – growing up in Hong Kong and then furthering his education in the UK, where he studied law, then finding his passion in film making. Ray talks about “叔叔 Suk Suk” which introduced the novel topic of two elderly gay men falling in love in Hong Kong, representing a minority within a minority. He goes on to talk about his latest film “從今以後 All Shall Be Well” and hearing real-life stories which inspired Ray to script the story about a lesbian couple and the family dynamics that suddenly roll out after one of the women passes away. Ray talks about the casting and the reasons behind the choice of Maggie Li (Lin Lin), as well as the choice of portraying the characters without using a typical melodramatic way to unfold the story. He wants the audience to empathise and reflect on the family dynamics and the many shades that each character brings to the story. He wants everyone to reflect upon their own selfishness and what they would do in a similar situation, as well as questioning if there's a more or less hidden level of homophobia.   More LGBTQ content: https://www.hugillandip.com/the-hip-pride/

Masih Alinejad, Iranian American journalist, women's rights campaigner and a Time Woman of the Year 2023, is an outspoken critic of the Iranian government. She joins Anita to talk about her fight for women's rights in Iran. ‘Just Saying' is a memoir by the bestselling author Malorie Blackman, former Children's Laureate, best known for her Noughts & Crosses series for young adults. Malorie received eighty-two rejection letters before she finally found a publisher. Seventy published books later it is no exaggeration to say that Malorie Blackman has changed the face of British literature forever. Malorie joins Nuala to discuss her life and works. 650 years ago a woman we only know as Julian of Norwich produced a book which challenged the ideas of the time about sin and suffering. It presented a radical vision of love and hope that “All Shall Be Well and All Shall Be Well and All Manner of Things Shall be Well”. We hear from a listener, Sophie, about the words that she turns to for motivation and encouragement. Blended families are created for all sorts of reasons. Because of break-ups or the death of a parent, through fostering or adoption. Kate Ferdinand, previously Kate Wright of The Only Way is Essex fame, married the former footballer Rio Ferdinand in 2019, four years after his first wife Rebecca and mother of their three children, had died. As a new step mum she struggled partly because she felt very alone and that no-one understood what she was going through. But there was also very little out there to help someone in her situation – the step-parenting parts of books and websites were tiny, she says. Kate has now written her own book - How to Build a Family. She joins Anita to discuss her experiences. Most of us are familiar with the story of Anne Frank, the young Jewish girl who wrote a diary while hiding from the Nazis with her family, in Amsterdam during the Second World War. You are probably less familiar with the name of the woman who agreed to keep them safe in those secret attic rooms. Miep Gies was Otto's secretary, and when they were eventually located and sent to their deaths, it was Miep who found Anne's diary and kept it. A new TV series tells the whole story from Miep's perspective, and she is played by the British actor Bel Powley. Bel joins Nuala to talk about playing an ordinary woman who displayed extraordinary courage. Presenter: Anita Rani Producer: Hanna Ward

All Shall Be Well: Conversations with Women in the Academy and Beyond

"I start off with trying to make sure the student knows someone is looking forward to seeing them." — Jana Young How do you prepare to successfully kick off a new school year? Listen in on our first in a series of episodes where we answer some of your Dear Mentor questions. Let me invite you into a special episode, our first in a series of episodes where we answer some of your Dear Mentor questions. First up: back to school rhythms. How do you get geared up for the semester? What habits get you in the mindset for an energizing start to the school year? Karen Hice Guzmán, director of Women Scholars and Professionals, sat down with three women faculty members — representing the fields of chemistry, music, and business — and recorded their best tips and wisdom to help you start your school year on the right foot.  Let me add a special note here for those of you who are not professionally aligned with a school schedule at this time of year — you are welcome, too! The ideas that emerge from these three conversations can be applied easily to a number of contexts, so we hope you listen in and glean the wisdom that connects with your life and work situation. And one more thing: If you're wondering what happened to "All Shall Be Well" and "Women in the Academy and Professions," there's no need for concern! You're in the right place — we've simply decided to change our name. So have a listen! We're so glad you're here. — Ann Boyd For show notes or more information please visit our article at The Well. All Shall Be Well: Conversations with Women in the Academy and Beyond

"God has given us the gift of ethnic differences as a conduit to his witness and to the growth of his church." — Helen Lee Join us for this conversation with author Helen Lee as we talk about ways we can cultivate safe environments that support families and church communities leaning into discussions about race. Let me invite you into a conversation with Helen Lee, author and director of product innovation at InterVarsity Press. In the context of a racialized culture in which tension and violence is a daily reality, Helen and her co-author Michelle Reyes have written a book for families. The Race-Wise Family is a book designed for parents and caregivers who wish to imbue their family culture with sensitivity and nuance around the concept of race. Although the book is written for parents, I found that the wisdom within this book can be almost universally applied in the life of anyone who wishes to create a safe environment for young people to explore and grow in their ability to heal our communities from the devastating effects of racism. Helen doesn't shy away from the need for deep thinking and soul-work on the part of the caregiver, but also suggests a number of very simple and practical ideas that could be implemented within moments. This book is an important contribution to our national and church-wide conversation about race, and Helen is just a delight to talk with.  Programming Note: We'll be taking a two-month summer break here at All Shall Be Well. Our team will be resting and reconnecting and planning for the future during June and July, so we encourage you to catch up on back episodes, get some rest yourself if you can, and watch for our next season to begin in mid-August. So have a listen! We're so glad you're here. — Ann Boyd For show notes or more information please visit our article at The Well. David was betrayed when he was hiding from King Saul, but he trusted in the name of God, and so can we. No matter how confused and bewildered we have become, God hears us when we call on His name. We call Him into our twisted and damaged lives to show mercy, and to pick us up and carry us into the light once more. With such a faithful God, we can truly say “all shall be well” because we trust in God and call upon His name. Jonathan Noel sings “All Shall Be Well”.

Today, in our series of "Life, Love, & Light" podcasts on The Mystical Path, we consider the Path of Illumination. We hear Julian of Norwich describe her own experience of illumination when she saw the sudden and blissful transformation of Christ on the cross -- from suffering to perfect joy. Julian herself was lifted up in a transport of ecstasy. This is the illumination that the disciples, male and female, experienced at Easter. Like them, Julian was overwhelmed by the reality of resurrection -- that Christ had conquered suffering and death once and for all. Yet she understood that right now we still abide in the reality of the cross; we still live within the passion of Christ: “in our pains and in our passion, dying.” However, Julian envisioned that, at the last moment of our lives, suddenly Christ will “change his countenance toward us, and we shall be with him in heaven.” By this she meant that Christ will instantaneously convert all our suffering into joy, simply by transforming our mind's ability to perceive him.We reflect on the fact that as we move from the Path of Purgation onto the Path of Illumination, we, too, may experience moments of deep inspiration, vivid images, graces that come pouring out upon us, voices telling us what to do, all good things. We may have glimpses of light and momentary “beholdings,” as Julian of Norwich called them. However, we must not think we have already reached perfect union with God. There's a big distinction between the glimpses that arise in our minds in the early and later stages of the Path of Illumination. So as not to be misled, we must continue to be faithful to our contemplative practice, morning and evening -- becoming aware of our thoughts but not grasping onto any of them. We must remain open to the presence of God and not crave spiritual "perks." We don't want to be satisfied by the insights and inspirations that come from our own mind; we want only those that arise direct from the Divine Source. Cultivating greater awareness and stillness in our meditation practice will also enable us to deal more capably with the life situations in which we find ourselves -- after meditation. Teresa of Avila linked the Path of Illumination with the Prayer of Quiet. At this point, we are able to remain silent and focused more easily in meditation -- and for longer and longer periods of time. We begin to experience a different level of Divine Reality and to rest in this "divine milieu." Then, as our awareness of Divine Presence becomes sustainable, we learn to trust  it more and more.  Perhaps for the first time,  we feel truly "alive"!PLEASE SHARE these podcasts with family member and friends who are seeking a mystical path and a contemplative practice in their lives. And let them know about the upcoming Virtual Retreat I will be leading on the Revelations of Julian of Norwich:  "All Shall Be Well"  (May 1st-2nd, 2021). Even while we’re not through all of the challenges that 2020 brought to us, it still felt right to look back on the year that we had together with the All Shall Be Well podcast. As I listened to some of the conversations with our fantastic guests this year, I was struck by the way many of our guests invited us to remember the goodness of God, especially as we endure difficulty or heal from past experiences. My hope is that this year-in-review episode may allow us to see how Jesus has been with us in 2020 and remind us that he goes before us into this new year, whatever unknowns it may bring. -Caroline Triscik, host of All Shall Be Well: Conversations with Women in the Academy and Beyond Listen in as Women in the Academy and Professions associate Caroline Triscik leads us through a review of some highlights of All Shall Be Well from 2020, featuring guests, Sheila Wise Rowe, Aundi Kolber, Grace P. In the midst of a society decimated by the Black Death, suffering the economic effects of disastrous harvests and undergoing major political upheaval resulting in crippling taxation, Julian of Norwich wrote that Jesus said to her: “All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.” This is the blessed assurance we have in Jesus. What would it take for you to live with absolute peace and deep joy today? What would it take for you to live with the unmovable attitude and spirit … that all shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of things shall be well? It’s hard to see the deeper things when life is full and busy. In this conversation with Catherine McNiel, we talk about how we can be awakened to God’s presence in creation. We’re invited to see God move in our actual, concrete reality — in the beauty and in the decay and despair. This isn’t a garden-variety book (or conversation). She says, “if we’re not tempted by despair, I don’t think what we’re experiencing is actually hope.” Listen in to a wonderful conversation and win a free book too!
