Illuminating the Inner Landscape: Eastern Wisdom for Mental TransformationAre you struggling with feelings of being trapped in cycles of mental and emotional suffering without understanding why? Do you sense there's untapped potential within you, yet can't seem to access it? This illuminating lecture may hold the key to your transformation. In this podcast episode, we discuss how ancient Indian philosophical systems—Sāmkhya, Vedānta, Yoga, and Tantra—serve as powerful maps of consciousness, maps of wholeness, that can revolutionize your approach to mental health and personal growth. The episode describes why most people remain unconscious of their inner world and how this lack of self-awareness creates the greatest obstacle to healing. You will learn how these timeless wisdom traditions break down overwhelming mental challenges into manageable components and provide structured pathways to recognize your true nature beyond suffering. This lecture reveals why many people find it easier to identify with their limitations than their strengths, trapped in what Jung called the "dark shadow" while resisting their "golden shadow" of inherent wisdom, creativity, and resilience. Through the lens of Eastern philosophy, you'll understand how transformation occurs not by eliminating your darker aspects, but by reclaiming your disowned strengths. You'll gain insight into:How Sāmkhya provides the vertical structure of existence, revealing the organization of your mindWhy Vedānta's five koshas (sheaths) offer crucial depth perception for targeted healingThe practical wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita for everyday mental wellbeingHow Patanjali's Yoga creates a methodical path toward inner liberationTantra's powerful energetic techniques for tangible transformationThis episode introduces our comprehensive Yoga of Mental Health Workshop Series, a four-part exploration integrating ancient yogic wisdom with modern psychological insights. Each workshop includes teaching lectures, guided meditations, and interactive Q&A sessions and comes with a CPE certificate upon completion. All participants receive 24/7 online access to recordings and resources after each live event.Begin your journey from darkness to light, from unconsciousness to self-awareness, and discover the extraordinary healing potential that has always existed within you.
In this episode of the Creative Genius podcast, I interview Rebe Huntman about her debut memoir, "My Mother in Havana, a memoir of magic and miracle." Rebe shares her personal story of losing her mother at a young age and the subsequent decades of feeling disconnected from her memory. Driven by a deep longing and intuition, Rebe embarked on a 30-day DIY pilgrimage to Cuba to seek a different perspective on grief and connection. The conversation delves into how Rebe's background as a Latin dancer led her to discover the spiritual roots of Cuban dances and the traditions of honoring the deceased. Rebe recounts her experiences immersing herself in rituals dedicated to the goddess Oshun, visiting the sanctuary of Cuba's patron saint, and meeting with a spiritist who she hoped would connect her with her mother.Rebe and I discuss the importance of intuition and following one's unique path, even when it doesn't seem logical. We also explore the disconnect in Western culture from ancestral connections, magic, and meaningful rituals, contrasting it with the Cuban traditions of keeping the dead close. The conversation touches on the challenges of staying creative and connected to one's inner voice in the face of overwhelming global issues and personal fears. Rebe shares her belief in creativity as a portal and emphasizes the importance of honouring inner longings and choosing to champion humanity. She also shares her personal rituals for grounding and connecting with her intuition and ancestors, offering practical advice for listeners seeking to do the same. Ultimately, Rebe's story is a powerful reminder of the resilience of the human spirit, the wisdom of intuition, and the potential for magic and miracle in our lives, even in the darkest of times.

On this episode of Crazy Wisdom, Stewart Alsop speaks with pianist and AI innovator Ayse Deniz, who is behind "Classical Regenerated," a tribute project that uses artificial intelligence to bring classical composers back to life. Ayse shares how she trains AI models on historical documents, letters, and research to create interactive experiences where audiences can "speak" with figures like Chopin. The conversation explores the implications of AI in music, education, and human perception, touching on active listening, the evolution of artistic taste, and the philosophical questions surrounding artificial intelligence. You can connect with Ayse's through Instagram or learn more about her work visiting her website at adpianist.com.Check out this GPT we trained on the conversation!Timestamps00:00 Introduction to the Crazy Wisdom Podcast00:17 Exploring the Classical Regenerated Project00:39 AI in Live Concerts and Historical Accuracy02:25 Active Listening and the Impact of Music04:33 Personal Experiences with Classical Music09:46 The Role of AI in Education and Learning16:30 Cultural Differences in Music Education21:33 The Future of AI and Human Interaction30:13 Political Correctness and Its Impact on Society35:23 The Struggles of Music Students36:32 Wisdom Traditions and Tough Love37:28 Cultural Differences in Education39:57 The Role of AI in Music Education42:23 Challenges and Opportunities with AI47:21 The Future of Governance and AI50:11 The Intersection of Technology and Humanity56:05 Creating AI-Enhanced Music Projects01:06:23 Final Thoughts and Future PlansKey InsightsAI is transforming how we engage with classical music – Ayse Deniz's Classical Regenerated project brings historical composers like Chopin back to life using AI models trained on their letters, academic research, and historical documents. By allowing audiences to interact with AI-generated versions of these composers, she not only preserves their legacy but also creates a bridge between the past and the future of music.Active listening is a lost skill that AI can help revive – Modern music consumption often treats music as background noise rather than an art form requiring deep attention. Ayse uses AI-generated compositions alongside original works to challenge audiences to distinguish between them, fostering a more engaged and analytical approach to listening. The nature of artistic interpretation is evolving with AI – Traditionally, human performers interpret classical compositions with emotional nuance, timing, and dynamics. AI-generated performances are now reaching a level where they can mimic these subtleties, raising questions about whether machines can eventually match or even surpass human expressiveness in music.AI's impact on education will depend on how it is designed – Ayse emphasizes that AI should not replace teachers but rather serve as a tool to encourage students to practice more and develop discipline. By creating an AI music tutor for children, she aims to support learning in a way that complements human instruction rather than undermining it.Technology is reshaping the psychology of expertise – With AI capable of outperforming humans in various fields, there is an emerging question of how people will psychologically adapt to always being second-best to machines. The discussion touches on whether AI-generated knowledge and creativity will demotivate human effort or inspire new forms of artistic and intellectual pursuits. The philosophical implications of AI challenge our sense of reality – As AI-generated personas and compositions become more convincing, distinguishing between what is “real” and what is synthetic is becoming increasingly difficult. The episode explores the idea that we may already be living in a kind of simulation, where our perception of reality is constructed and mediated by evolving technologies.AI is accelerating personal empowerment but also risks centralization – Just as personal computing once promised decentralization but led to the rise of tech giants, AI has the potential to give individuals new creative powers while also concentrating influence in the hands of those who control the technology. Ayse's work exemplifies how AI can be used for artistic and educational empowerment, but it also raises questions about the need for ethical development and accessibility in AI tools.
Yuria Celidwen, an Indigenous researcher in the Department of Psychology at University of California Berkeley, discusses how contemplative practices in Indigenous traditions can expand mindfulness, heartfulness, compassion, and planetary flourishing. Her new book, 'Flourishing Kin: Indigenous Foundations for Collective Well-Being,' argues that relationality lies at the heart of Indigenous cultures, as seen in seven key principles. Celidwen explains that happiness is "only possible in community, when we cultivate our relationships toward all kin, from human to more-than-human, and to our living Earth." Learning to listen mindfully to life is an essential process in healing the Earth, the alienation of modern, Western cultures, and Indigenous cultures traumatized by genocide and other colonial traumas. In today’s episode, I’ll be speaking with Solveig Barrios, the co-founder of The Mayan Wisdom Project, a Guatemala-based Indigenous education platform and marketplace bringing ancient Maya teachings, culture, and wisdom to the modern world. Driven by concern over the misappropriation and dilution of Mayan traditions, Solveig has repurposed deep insights and lessons from her late father, the renowned Mayan spiritual leader, Tata Carlos Barrios, into online educational content for a burgeoning international community. In addition to providing masterclasses on mental health, wellness, and transformative Mayan practices, Solveig leads community projects with leaders of the Q'eqchi Maya nation in the town of Lanquin, Guatemala, in order to uplift and empower them. To support the local economy in Guatemala, the Mayan Wisdom Project works directly with Indigenous, family-owned businesses and regenerative farmers to bring their products to the global market. We talk about the following and so much more: The inspiration behind the Mayan Wisdom Project and what motivated her to embark on this journey The significance of Mayan wisdom in today's world, and why she believes it is important to share it with others How she goes about collecting and preserving Mayan wisdom, and what methods does she use to ensure its authenticity and accuracy Some key teachings or insights from Mayan wisdom that she believes are particularly relevant or impactful for people today What can we learn from their perspective on time and the cosmos? They explore the origins and mythological significance of this enigmatic savior, believed to be born in a cave, and the profound symbolism behind this imagery. 1. In his sermon, Tim talked about two parallel lines of church history. The first, the Historical Tradition, is characterized by dogmatic theologians and the general domination of men within its points of significance. In contrast, the Wisdom Tradition is characterized by mystical theologians, and women take a much more significant role in its history. The slide showing the two timelines is below. Does one of these feel more familiar to you? Its story more known or more relevant? Are there specific people or moments of significance in either that are personally important to you? If so, share about why. Are there some that you feel led to learn more about? If so, share about why. What thoughts are prompted by noticing the contrasts between these two timelines while also recognizing their concurrence? What influence might recognizing these parallel traditions have on your overall understanding of the history of Christian theology? Is it important to hold both of these traditions in view when considering Christian theological history? Why or why not? 2. Julian of Norwich's theology was neither sentimental nor sweet. She dove headfirst into difficult topics, including the problem of evil. In doing so, she wrote about Christ on the Cross. But unlike the views of her contemporaries, she didn't see anger and wrath in the picture of the cross, but rather God's solidarity and love. In the cross, she saw God absorbing man's evil and returning only forgiveness. Consider these different ways of understanding the cross. How do they compare with your own sense? Do you think of the cross as being more about wrath & anger? Or about solidarity & love? Whether you lean more toward one of these interpretations or some mixture, share about your sense of the cross and its relevance to your own personal faith practices. How does your conception of the cross affect your overall practice of your faith?3. Tim taught that Julian saw, in Christ, an invitation to bring our brokenness to God - a process that requires growing in self-knowledge. And that this process helps us to participate in God's well-making more and more. What are your thoughts about the link between growing in self-knowledge and God's ongoing well-making in the world? To what extent do you tend to think of your own self-awareness work as connected to God's redemptive processes? Do they seem linked or rather separate? What do you make of the through line drawn by Tim through the theology of Julian of Norwich? How does this influence your thoughts and feelings about the extent to which you've engaged in self-knowledge work? What feelings does this entire idea prompt in you? How significant does it feel?
In this episode, we dive into the transformative invitation found across diverse spiritual and philosophical traditions: “Come and see.” From Jesus' call to his disciples, to the Tantric embrace of the sacred in all things, to Nietzsche's challenge of revaluing all values, we explore how this call invites us beyond beliefs and doctrines, into direct, lived experience. Drawing on the Yogacara teachings of mind-made reality, the awe-inspired insights of Dacher Keltner, and the mysterious nature of the sacred in indigenous traditions, we uncover a common thread. This invitation is not to observe life from a distance but to fully engage with its complexity and depth—to experience meaning, connection, and truth for ourselves. Join us as we trace how this timeless call echoes through different cultures, philosophies, and paths, showing us that true wisdom lies not in theoretical knowledge but in a life fully lived.

Connect with Dr. Nikos Patedakis: Visit his website: Dangerous Wisdom Find additional resources at dangerouswisdom.org/resilience Get Resilience Assessment for yourself or your team In this episode, Dr. Nikos Patedakis discusses "Resilience 4.0," a deeper, wisdom-centered form of resilience derived from ancient philosophy. He explains how wisdom traditions can guide individuals to live more authentically, fulfil their core values, and embrace resilience that transcends mere survival. The conversation covers the essence of mindfulness, the power of philosophical exploration, and actionable practices that help integrate purpose and awareness into daily life. Key takeaways: Resilience 4.0: True resilience isn't just about bouncing back; it's about achieving a state of wisdom-centered strength. This "Resilience 4.0" is rooted in ancient philosophy, offering a more profound, anti-fragile resilience that allows individuals to thrive amid life's challenges. Philosophy as Everyday Practice: Philosophy is not reserved for academics—everyone has their own approach to life. Dr. Patedakis emphasizes that we are all philosophers in how we navigate relationships, work, and values. The Importance of Psychological Flexibility: Drawing from wisdom traditions, psychological flexibility is crucial for resilience. It's about shifting perspectives, practicing compassion, and seeing beyond surface reactions. The Power of a Non-Dualistic Mindset: Rather than seeing ourselves as separate from our surroundings, we can foster resilience by embracing a non-dual perspective, acknowledging that we are both part of and connected to the world around us. Finding Fulfilment Through Purpose: Resilience is sustained by finding fulfilment and grounding actions in a "why" that aligns with core values and love. Dr. Patedakis encourages listeners to explore their "why" with depth, whether in personal growth, family, or greater good.

We often mistake experience for wisdom. But today, our guest challenges this notion. Wisdom isn't just about ourselves; it's about the legacy we craft. How do we become good ancestors and leave the world better than the one we entered? Join me in a conversation with Nikos Patedakis, a philosopher dedicated to unleashing wisdom and compassion. Brace yourself—the ideas exchanged in our conversation were nothing short of mind-expanding. Nikos, armed with multiple philosophy degrees, including a PhD, wields wisdom, love, and beauty to transform lives. Through his role as a consulting philosopher and educator, he reshapes individuals, cultures, and our world. In this episode, we explore wisdom traditions and the need to deepen one's understanding of oneself and the mind. We discussed: What it means to have a wisdom-based approach to life How to weave a lifetime of your experiences into wisdom Considering your legacy and how you would love to be remembered Why mindfulness makes life much more interesting as you age The concept of ‘training for death' (and why you shouldn't put it off) Why leaving work behind isn't really about filling a void in your life Connect with Nikos Free resources on compassion training: https://dangerouswisdom.org/meditations Nikos' book recommendations on the subject of living well and dying well: The Art of Living: Peace and Freedom in the Here and Now by Thich Nhat Hanh Dying with Confidence: A Tibetan Buddhist Guide to Preparing for Death by Anyen Rinpoche The Five Invitations: Discovering What Death Can Teach Us about Living Fully by Frank Ostaseski How We Live Is How We Die by Pema Chodron The documentary Tukdam Interview with Doug Tallamy about creating the world's biggest national park in your own backyard

Wisdom is a universal language. Insightful parables are found throughout various cultures in history which offer wisdom about how to live a fuller life, being in harmony with nature, and abiding by universal energies and principles. Gods and Goddesses throughout literature emulate many of these qualities. These stories are based on ancient texts, with an esoteric approach, rather than literal, explains our guest today, Obadiah Harris, Ph.D. (now deceased). Dr. Harris was the President of the Philosophical Research Society, founded by Manly P. Hall, and had combined his skills as a community educator and administrator with the study of the world's wisdom traditions. He explains how these stories and traditions ask us to see the inner meaning. He explains how esotericism is an attempt to release the individual from a literal hold. Esoteric movements today are moving away from literalism. People are searching for answers and looking for what works. If we look within, we can explore and find our own truth. Dr. Harris received his Ph.D. in Education from the University of Michigan as a Stewart Mott Foundation Fellow. His work in community education includes service as Associate Professor and Director of the Center for Community Education at New Mexico State University, and as Associate Professor and Director of the Regional Center for Community Education at Arizona State University. Dr. Harris's study and practice of the great Eastern and Western traditions has helped shape and direct his life. Info: www.prs.org.
The Shawnee, a native American tribe, tells a tale of brother crow and brother buffalo which imparts the wisdom of balance: to only hunt the buffalo when it is necessary for food and skins, but to remember that each creature is our brother and sister too. Tales like this one are not uncommon in many indigenous cultures around the world. Through an illustrative story set in nature, they transmit the ethical, epistemological, and metaphysical beliefs of the tribe from one generation to the next on topics such as virtue and vice, creation and purpose, life, death, and what comes after. Yet the collective body of knowledge and beliefs of such tribes are not considered philosophy, but are rather placed in an adjacent and loosely defined category called “wisdom traditions.” And this label is hardly reserved for indigenous knowledge systems. Buddhism, Humanism, Taoism, Transcendentalism, Confucianism and Quakerism have all been called wisdom traditions by some. In what way do wisdom traditions differ from philosophy? Are they considered “lesser than” or are they on equal ground but utilize different ways of knowing? Is the term subversively pejorative? Or does its separate status identify something uniquely different and profoundly important?Open Door Philosophy on Twitter @d_parsonage or @opendoorphilOpen Door Philosophy on Instagram @opendoorphilosophyOpen Door Philosophy website at opendoorphilosophy.comContact us via email at contact@opendoorphilosophy.com
The Nazareth to Nicaea vodcast discusses the historical Jesus, the Christ of Faith, and everything in between. We look at the many texts and traditions, the stories and artifacts, the heroes and heretics of the christological controversies. We cover the debates, the doubts, and the dissenters about all things related to Jesus and the early church. In this episode, Dr. Mike Bird examines the main christological features of Colossians 1:15-20. In particular: Jesus as the image of the invisible God (4:52) Jesus as the firstborn of all creation (6:40) Jesus as agent and goal of creation (9:45) Jesus as head of the church (11:45) Jesus as the first principle and firstborn from the dead (12:38) Jesus as pre-eminence and fullness of deity (14:45) Jesus as reconciler of all things (18:45) Further Reading: Bird, Michael F. Hi everyone, welcome back to The Wisdom Tradition podcast. In today's episode, we will be picking up where we left off in Part 1 of our series on "Mandala Design and the Philosophy of Meditation". The particular theme of this episode is on "the occult science of visualization". Visualization exercises utilizing mandalas were an important part of the meditation disciplines utilized by the ancient Mystery Schools. In this episode we will be exploring various angles on how these exercises work and what psychological principles they leverage. For the written article, please see my Substack. Link here. Hey everybody! Episode 92 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with Linda Christine Adams. Linda was recommended to me by a mutual friend of ours, Kylea Taylor, who I interviewed in episode 59. Kylea spoke very highly of Linda as a healer and wisdom keeper so I took her word for it and was very happy to have connected with Linda. Linda has been walking her path of medicine and healing since a young age and has studied many modalities of healing, weaving them together in her practice. We spoke about Acupuncture, Chinese medicine, ayahuasca, dietas, iboga, and distance healing. It was a pleasure for me to connect with Linda and have her share her knowledge and wisdom and I hope you all enjoy this episode. As always, to support this podcast, get early access to shows, bonus material, and Q&As, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy!“From an early age, Linda has been initiated by elders, healers and shamans from around the world. She is the innovator of Empyrean Energy Work, Holographic Reflexology and Elemental Qi Gong. She channels high frequencies of Light from the Cosmos and Healing Love from the Great Mother through her voice and through her remote work. She is a passionate guide in healing our separation from Earth and in the reweaving of earth based culture. When I was 19 I received a very clear message that my life path was to be of service. At 20 she had an accident that left me unable to walk. This was the first initiation on her path as a healer, and how she met her first teacher and regained the ability to walk.Since that time healers, teachers and shamans from many places and many traditions have mentored and initiated her and the process continues to this day.Her studies have called her to the far corners of Earth, from Vietnam to the High Andes, the Amazon Rainforest and beyond.A near death experience in 2017 opened her capacity to channel the Light frequencies of the Cosmos and shortly after this she received a visitation by the Great Mother Herself. All of this wisdom and experience is integrated into all that Linda offers.Through her interactive remote work Linda specializes in integration of non-ordinary experiences, working with core wounds, healing through ancestral lineages, and helping to clear blockages to awakening and the expression of our true gifts.”To learn more or to connect with Linda, visit her website at: https://www.intotheheartoftheworld.earthIf you enjoy the show, it would be a big help if you could share it with your own audiences via social media or word of mouth.
