From childhood fossil finds and career-defining mistakes to life in remote field camps, mentors who shaped generations, and the enduring magic of rocks in three dimensions, the discussion ranges across decades of geological experience. It's a warm, story-driven reflection on geology as both a science and a way of life — where every rock has a story, and the people chasing them matter just as much as the discoveries themselves. Nick Jeffery and John Granger sat down today to talk about the wonderful comment threads beneath their Hallmarked Man posts since publication day. They see every comment on every thread and realized no one else was seeing the brilliant theories and ideas from the Hogwarts Professor community.John was tasked with reviewing every comment post publication comment thread to identify the best offering they had not discussed in previous posts. Nick had the harder job of culling that list down to the best ten ideas; he balked and chose thirteen. John added two, just because. They both recommend you click on the links below as you listen to Nick and John embrace, push back, and marvel at the great Serious Striker conversations to be had here. The best of the best? J. S. Maleksen's ‘Dirty Bomb Charlotte,' which makes the credible argument that Rowling has written a back-stage scenario in which Charlotte seduces Ryan F. Murphy to destroy Robin Ellacott. Why? When? What? How? Read the comment beneath the #1 link below and listen to Nick and John talk, no, rave about this seemingly off-the-wall bit of speculation. And then wade through the rest! Thank you to all the contributors to our conversations; please remember it was Nick, not John, who decided not to use your idea. Hallmarked Man Names and Part One ring-charting later this week — stay tuned!Links to Reader Ideas and Theories from the HogPro Comment Threads1. J. S. Maleksen: ‘Dirty Bomb Charlotte:' Ryan Murphy Killed CharlotteThank you for discussing my first Running Grave RFM comments. As you may have noticed, my theory is a bit of a work in progress. In keeping with the Hogwarts Professor/ Rowling Studies standards, I am striving to put it all together and set forth a textual basis for my contention that the relapsing, unstable RFM we see in the later parts of RG and all of HM is the dirty bomb left by Charlotte with the intent of exacting revenge on Robin and Strike. In RG, after listening to a portion of Charlotte's final 3 voicemail messages, Strike frets about the possibility that Charlotte will seek out RFM and spin a web of lies to him. He expresses concern in his inner monologue that RFM would have no loyalty to Strike and that RFM could use the information to turn Robin against him.Understanding that I may be in nutter drawer/Gateshead territory and mindful that I am diverging from my original post slightly, I contend that RFM met up with Charlotte at some point, maybe in the month or two, before she died. She used McCabes (the agency she hired to get dirt on Jago in IBH) to get info on Robin, discovered RFM, contacted him seduced him, and filled his head with lies about Strike and Robin. On the night Charlotte dies, RFM is there. They are drinking together. They get into a fight. She assaults him (like she assaulted Strike and Dormer) and because ‘he is mean and aggressive when he gets drunk' (yes this is where this line from Wardle in RG becomes relevant) he hits her back, they fight, and she dies. He makes the murder look like a suicide, writes a suicide note that is based on the information she has given him about Strike and her family and her kids. There is nothing in the suicide note about Strike being in love with Robin. Remember, the only evidence that this appears in the note is Strike's egotistical presumption that is based solely on Strike's conjecture.RFM uses his position at the Met to make sure the final determination is suicide. The guilt and self-loathing he feels thereafter causes him to spend as much time as possible in Spain (rather than taking the earlier flight to see Robin after she escapes from Chapman Farm.) It also causes him to declare his love for Robin on his first night back with her. He's drinking and unraveling and he thinks if he can make it work with Robin and rescue her from an abusive Strike, it will make up for the fact that he committed murder. This also explains his mistakes in the gang shooting case, including roughing up a suspect and all of the descriptions of him being overly stressed and exhausted including on the night he got Robin pregnant. This is the thought process that led me to post under Nick's ‘Charlotte was Murdered' thread. It just took me a little longer to articulate it.Once again, thanks to both of you for all of the fine work you do.* Catherine: Strike 9 will be about Strike searching to find Lost Robin/Psyche3. Rob Collins and King Collins Dormer are fast becoming well known throughout the United States of America, thanks in part to their design of cult hero golf course at Sweetens Cove Golf Club in Tennessee, and their big, bold, home run hitting design of the golf course at Landmand Golf Club in Nebraska, both under the former guise as King Collins. Apart from these special two designs, a number of other new golf course designs coming soon in the USA, and the addition of Trevor Dormer, thus becoming King Collins Dormer, they have something very new on their horizon. Their first new 18 hole course design outside the USA. And it will be at one of Australia's most talked about golf course destinations, 7 Mile Beach! Yes, with the 1st 18 hole course designed by Clayton DeVries Pont (CDP) soon to be open for play, King Collins Dormer are champing at the bit and ready to begin the design and construction of their addition, to not only this incredible golf site, but the Australian golf landscape!Recorded during US Masters week, Rob Collins and I discuss his background to give the wider Australian audience a better understanding of just who both he and King Collins Dormer are. Oh yeah, and as it turns out, there's the uncanny prophetic skills of Rob picking the Masters winner after just 1 round! Rob takes us through his career in golf course design and we ride the wave of emotions that he has experienced to get to where he is today beginning with his first golf course baby - Sweetens Cove. From Sweetens to Landmand, and the small public 9 hole golf course redesign of Overton Park in the middle, would prove significant to the public's understanding of what the formerly known King Collins design team was capable of. Their fun, engaging, interesting and considerably entertaining designs had them standing out of the crowd. Enter the not yet open, 7 Mile Beach golf complex, the vision of Australian professional golfer and now golf course developer Mat Goggin, and the world has the ingredients for something truly sensational. For all the fans out there of Australian golf courses and Rob Collins, this is one conversation you don't want to miss out on. AUDREY'S CHILDREN stars Natalie Dormer as Dr. Audrey Evans, the oncologist whose staging system revolutionized how childhood cancers are treated. Before her work in the '70s, these cancers were handled with a sort of one-size-fits-all approach. The result of Evans' research was a categorization of cases, impacted by age, tumor location, length of time diagnosed with the disease and more. She advocated for more aggressive chemotherapy regiments, sometimes utilizing a combo of drugs. This wasn't a popular idea at the time, but given that era's survival rate for pediatric neuroblastoma patients was merely 10%, I think said situation couldn't hurt from tougher solutions. Nowadays, the survival rate's jumped up to over 80%.Evans' work didn't just stop in the clinic; she recognized that a child's success with treatment depended on their family's ability to sustain the burden. If they couldn't afford the treatment or the housing required to be close to their kid, families would be forced to cut the help short. Unacceptable. As a result, Dr. Evans partnered with the Philadelphia Eagles football team and McDonald's to open the first Ronald McDonald Charity House.Dr. Evans was indefatigable, which makes Dormer's portrayal that much more impressive. She's in almost every scene, carrying her gait with poise and purpose despite whatever setbacks. It's even a pain getting records with which to build a case study. Never mind trying to nab funding. Never mind having to look at nerve-shredded families in the eyes and update them on the state of their dying kids. But the upside is that the lighting seems to be on Audrey's side. Canaan Mann and director of photography Jon Keng frame their characters against large, backlit windows, which suggest that, even in a dour-looking hospital, the sun and beauty of nature are desperate to break through, giving these kids hope. I mean, it can't ALL be up to Audrey, her full-faced smile and baby blue heels, right?AUDREY'S CHILDREN premieres in theaters on March 28. While Natalie Dormer's filmography does rock quite a few standout projects and roles, when she first started her journey in screen acting, she quickly recognized the fact that there weren't enough “three-dimensional, fleshed-out female protagonists." She explained, “You would be sent the script for ‘the girlfriend,' ‘the wife,' or ‘the antagonist,' and the majority was so two-dimensional.” However, that's changed considerably over the years. “Now when you're scrolling on whatever platform you're watching and seeing the amount of fleshed-out, three-dimensional, anti-heroic female protagonists … it's just night and day.” It's night and day, indeed. You want some proof? Go check out Dormer's latest film, The Wasp.Dormer stars opposite Naomie Harris in the stage-to-screen adaptation as two estranged school friends, Carla and Heather, who reunite and get involved in some rather diabolical events. As Dormer put it, they're “women who are both capable of profound darkness and profound vulnerability,” a combination that consistently tests your nerves and allegiance all through the film. With the twisted psychological thriller now playing in theaters, Dormer joined me for a Collider Ladies Night conversation to discuss some influential moments in her career that paved the way to embracing the opportunity to portray such an angry yet vulnerable character in The Wasp. Getting people to change how they do things can be hard, even if everyone agrees that things need to change. Take energy transition, for example. The case for switching to greener, more renewable sources of energy is well-made. And well-understood. But whether it's in your own home or the business you work in and lead, the challenge is now how do we make that change happen? And when there's so many solutions and little consensus on which is the right way to go, how do we not let paralysis take hold and stop us from making progress? Because we do need to make progress. By 2050, we need to have evolved the way we live and work if we're to hit our net zero targets. The way we power our homes. The way we power our industry. The infrastructure that supports the supply of energy. It all needs to change. But what's the solution? Is it solar? Wind? Hydrogen? And who is responsible for making it happen? Trever Dormer has traveled all over the world to build golf courses. Many days, home has been St. Lucia, or Thailand,  or Nova Scotia. But even if every location was as great as these, Kimberly, BC is best because it's really home. Purcell Golf lies in the Kootenays right by the St. Mary's river. When plans for the PIE (Purcell International Education) began in 2020, a school campus was to be built on a portion of the existing 18-hole golf course. After negotiations, Kimberly Golf Club- now Purcell Golf-was invested in and is here to stay.  The club needed  someone to turn the community asset into a centerpiece for the town itself. It was obvious the man for the job was Trevor  Dormer. Enjoy the conversation between me and a Father/Husband/Shaper/Architect building golf in his hometown, for his hometown. It's a good one. Bio:Dr. Anton Dormer was born to immigrant parents within the City of New York. His mother is from the Caribbean Islands of Guadeloupe FWI and his father is from Jamaica. Both of them where very influential in Dr. Dormer entering the healthcare field.  Dr. Dormer grew up in a household where education was valued. Both his parents were in school throughout his educational experience from elementary, high school, college, and even medical school. They come to the United State without a high school and over 30 years went from having not even a high school degree to obtaining their college, masters, and doctoral degrees. Dr. Dormer has also an interesting education pursuit with many up and down. For example, he started out with the wrong person during the 10th grade and barely went to his classes. When he graduated from high school, he had less than a 3.00 GPA. It would seem that his dream that his had since his earliest memory would be dashed. To make matter worst and teacher would did not care for him much gave him a very poor grade in Chemistry which was a surprise to him and to his mother, who actually cried at his graduation.  Dr. Dormer was a nerd and his social skills was not the best.  Even so,  it was during high school in which a teacher took him under his wing. Ms. So' Brien, who was his science teacher, took him under her wing and he became her teacher's assistant. During his 11th and 12th grade he was making all of her labs for her science class. It was this experience that propel Dr. Dormer is decided during that time to become a physician scientist.    In addition, during this time he learned about the Black American scientist Percy Julian, who also owned his own company and was a self-made millionaire. I said to myself if he could accomplish so much during the time of segregation that I do even better during this hear and now.I made a goal after high to graduate at the top of my class from college with no C on my transcript and in four years. I was able to accomplish that goal, graduating from Oakwood University Summa Cum Laude with no Cs on his transcript and in four years. He was also accepted to several medical schools. He had a passion for research and so during medical school he was able to work during the summer on projects involving the areas of diabetes and immunology. Upon finishing medical he went on to work in the area of health administration. He has been able to work at several education settings including teacher as the associated professor at Atlantic Union College (AUC) and Washington Adventist University (WAU).He was recruited to WAU to bring research to the institution. It become a struggle since there was no faculty research environment to bring  this opportunity to the school. However, in the middle of this disappointment was able to start PepVax, Inc in 2013. The company focuses of licensing and developing targeted human health solutions via it patent protected technology called SMARTmid(tm), which heck-invented. Several companies has spun off from PepVax, making Dr. Dormer a serial entrepreneur. In 2019, he started BioLabShare, LLC when he was trying find affordable wet lab bioresearch space in Baltimore. The mission of the company is to address the current shortage of wet lab bioresearch space while diversifying human healthcare solutions.Connect with Dr. Anton Dormer!Website: www.pepvax.cowww.biolabshare.netEmail: anton.dormer@pepvax.coYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChbk5dl4twH60Uw-1Fp4NFAFacebook:https://www.facebook.com/anton.dormer/https://www.facebook.com/BiolabshareInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/win_it_in_a_minute_moments/LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/antondormer/https://www.linkedin.com/company/64553185/admin/

He's remembered for his letters to his son and other notable people of his day. He once advised his son, l recommend you to take care of the minutes, for hours will take care of themselves… Yale University has Chesterfield's note containing the words to On a Lady Stung By a Bee.   To heal a wound a bee had made  Upon my Chloe's face, It's honey to the part she laid, And bade me kiss the place. Pleased, I obeyed, and from the wound Suck'd both the sweet and smart ; The honey on my lips I found, The sting within my heart.   September 22, 1800  Birth of George Bentham, English botanist, writer, and teacher. He was going to be an attorney but pursued botany after living in the country. His thinking was preserved in a diary, which he kept for over fifty years. George once wrote, I decided that my means were sufficient to enable me to devote myself to botany, a determination which I never…. [had] any reason to [regret]. George's longest professional friendship was with the botanist John Stuart Mills who had lived with the Bentham family as a teenager. A pragmatist, George finished his Flora of the British Islands by writing every morning before breakfast. He purposely used simple language so that his book could reach a wider audience. George wanted everyone to see fundamental differences in plants. The useful way he classified plants laid the foundation for modern taxonomy. Later in his career, George co-authored the three-volume Genera Plantarum with Sir Joseph Hooker. The "Bentham & Hooker system" was widely used and made plant classification easier. George also worked with Ferdinand Mueller to create an impressive nineteen-volume flora of Australia. In 1830, George discovered Opal Basil (purple) which is prized for its flavor and color. But the plant George is most associated with is an Australian sister plant to tobacco, Nicotiana benthamiana. The plant was named in his honor and is used to create vaccines for the Ebola virus and the coronavirus. George died two weeks shy of his 84th birthday.   September 22nd   Today is the Feast Day of Phocas the Gardener, a Turkish innkeeper and gardener who lived during the third century. A protector of persecuted Christians, Phocas grew crops in his garden to help feed the poor. His garden aided him in living his most-remembered virtues: hospitality and generosity. When Roman soldiers arrived in his village, Phocas offered them lodging and a homemade meal using the bounty of his garden. As they talked, Phocas realized they had come for him. While the soldiers slept, Phocas went out to the garden to dig his own grave and pray for the soldiers. In the morning, Phocas revealed his identity to the soldiers who reluctantly killed him. Although gardening can be a solitary activity, Phocas illustrated how gardens create connection and community. Phocas is the Patron Saint of flower and ornamental gardens,  farmers, field hands, and market gardeners.   Unearthed Words Louisiana in September was like an obscene phone call from nature. The air--moist, sultry, secretive, and far from fresh--felt as if it were being exhaled into one's face. Sometimes it even sounded like heavy breathing. Honeysuckle, swamp flowers, magnolia, and the mystery smell of the river scented the atmosphere, amplifying the intrusion of organic sleaze. It was aphrodisiac and repressive, soft and violent at the same time. In New Orleans, in the French Quarter, miles from the barking lungs of alligators, the air maintained this quality of breath, although here it acquired a tinge of metallic halitosis, due to fumes expelled by tourist buses, trucks delivering Dixie beer, and, on Decatur Street, a mass-transit motor coach named Desire. ― Tom Robbins, Jitterbug Perfume   Grow That Garden Library Wild Interiors by Hilton Carter This book came out in 2020, and the subtitle is Beautiful plants in beautiful spaces. And this book has one of my favorite covers ever! So hats off to the book designer who came up with that incredible cover. Carter is a master of greenery, and his approach to creating a welcoming room is making your plants feel right at home. Carter uses his book to take us on a tour of a dozen different homes that all feature their own unique ways of incorporating plants into their interiors and design. Each space is thoughtfully laid out, super comfortable, and beautiful. This book is 224 pages of plants at home in the home - and what a welcome addition for each of us to make. The flames could be seen for twenty miles. Modeled after the Crystal Palace but constructed primarily with timber, The Garden Palace was built at a record pace and completed in just over eight months for the Sydney International Exhibition in 1879. It dominated Sydney's skyline for only three years. In its glory, a statue of the Queen stood beneath the palace dome made of thirty-six stained-glass windows. After the Exhibition closed, the Garden Palace was unfortunately used to store important records (including the 1881 census) and countless irreplaceable Indigenous artifacts. The cause of the fire has never been established. At the time of the fire, a French artist named Lucien Henry captured the fire on canvas. His assistant, George Hippolyte Aurousseau, recalled the moment in a 1912 edition of the Technical Gazette: Mister Henry went out onto the balcony and watched until the Great Dome toppled in; it was then early morning; he went back to his studio procured a canvas, sat down, and painted the whole scene in a most realistic manner, showing the fig trees in the Domain, the flames rising through the towers, the dome falling in and the reflected light of the flames all around. Today the Pioneer Memorial Garden rests on the site where the dome would have been. Built in 1938, the garden commemorated the 150th anniversary of European settlement in Australia.   Thanks for listening to The Daily Gardener.
