Aktiekursen er styrtdykket. En direktør er stoppet. Konkurrenternes testresultater imponerer.
Men, med Leonard Cohens ord: ”There is a crack in everything – that's how the light gets in”! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Minden negyedik európai olyan épületben lakik, ahol a beltéri levegő minősége elmarad a nemzeti szabványoktól, és több mint 30 millió polgár él túl sötét lakásban, ami negatív hatással lehet mind a mentális, mind a fizikai egészségre. Minden ötödik hazai lakás penész problémával küszködik. Hogyan lehetnek egészségesebbek és fenntarthatóbbak épületeink? A felújítás költsége miért jó befektetés a jövőbe? "If you can dream it, you can do it". These words come without hesitation from Lone Feifer, Director of Sustainable Buildings at VELUX Group. Family-owned Velux empowers its employees to dream, which means the organisation is able to pioneer and deliver in the long term. Supported by visionary leadership, Lone and her team are used to achieve the goals set by the organisation to achieve the ultimate goal for Velux: to create health and well-being for people and the planet through daylight and fresh air. This is Design Can, in collaboration with 3 days of design and Velux. Today's episode is a conversation between our host Kristina May and Lone Feifer.
A circular approach, which disconnects economic activity from the ever-increasing consumption of natural resources, has emerged as a key strategy for making our societies more sustainable and helping mitigate the climate crisis.Circularity is particularly important for our built environment, as construction and renovation sites alone currently generate over a third of the waste that ends up in Europe's landfills.EU figures also suggest that greenhouse gas emissions from material extraction, manufacturing of construction products, and the construction and renovation of buildings account for 5-12% of EU countries' emissions.Despite the environmental benefits of embracing circularity, the uptake of circular principles in the construction industry is sluggish. In the second of our special live podcasts—recorded at our event on circularity in Brussels at the end of May 2024—the panel discusses the barriers to shifting to circularity in the construction sector and how they can be overcome.Joining Sean Carroll on today's episode are:● Philippe Moseley, Team Leader with the European Commission's DG GROW● Adrian Hiel, Head of Campaigns and Media with Energy Cities● Julie Kjestrup, Head of Policy and Thought Leadership with the VELUX GroupOur thanks go to lead co-organiser ABB and our supporting organiser VELUX for making the event possible.Download our award-winning app and enjoy access to all exclusive features. As Europe progresses towards achieving a climate-neutral economy by 2050, the concept of circularity has emerged as a powerful approach to reducing emissions, minimising waste and promoting sustainability. Adopting a more circular economy entails Europe transitioning from its linear economic model of producing, consuming, and disposing of materials to new approaches that aim to keep materials in the value chain for as long as possible. This will involve reducing resource extraction and ensuring that we operate within our planetary limits. In the first of two special live podcasts—recorded at our event on circularity in Brussels at the end of May 2024—the panel discusses the impact of new regulations out of the European Union aimed at improving circularity and its impact on design and supply chains. Living Places is an experimental village in Copenhagen that challenges the way we build and live today. Initiated by VELUX and built in partnership with EFFEKT Architects and Artelia, the temporary village's low emission homes suggest a whole new way of thinking about a series of urgent matters: From environmental footprint to indoor climate, biodiversity, affordability, and community building. As a case study for the Reduction Roadmap project, a plan to reduce the CO2 emission of new housing projects, Living Places eschews costly, high-tech solutions, focusing instead on what can be done right now, for a relatively low investment. But what will it take to change our mindsets when it comes to housing? In this episode of Let's Talk Architecture, Michael Booth meets Sinus Lynge, co-founder and Creative Director of EFFEKT Architects. Together they visit Living Places and discuss the future of low-emission, high-quality housing. Let's Talk Architecture is a podcast produced by Danish Architecture Center, with sound edits by Munck Studio.

Episode 35. AJ Climate Champions with Hattie Hartman. Environmental engineer Patrick Bellew of Atelier Ten shares insight from having worked on high-profile architectural projects, including the new Google HQ at King's Cross designed by Heatherwick Studio. He explains that post-pandemic ventilation rates in commercial offices have tripled with radiant solutions replacing blown air systems, and how this can be done while still controlling energy use. Episode 34. AJ Climate Champions with Hattie Hartman. Glasgow climate activist Scott McAulay and ACAN's Rosie Murphy advocate for a curriculum which empowers students as changemakers. McAulay, founder of the virtual Anthropocene Architecture School, argues that the answer to every brief should not be a new building. Architects must rethink their role as stewards of the built environment rather than designers, and students should be taught to scrutinise a brief in its larger context. Perhaps a vacant or underutilised building nearby can be transformed to meet a client's needs. For show notes to this episode, go to www.architectsjournal.co.uk/podcasts In association with Velux
Episode 33. AJ Climate Champions with Hattie Hartman. Velux director of sustainable buildings Lone Feifer explains why ‘relative' sustainability, improvement on previous standards, is no longer good enough. ‘One planet means one carbon budget with a fixed amount available for buildings,' she says. It's not about improving relative to previously accepted standards. Lone also describes how Denmark's new building regulations, effective in January 2023, will regulate whole life carbon by requiring life cycle assessment for projects and setting benchmarks for different building types. For homes, Feifer advocates the Active House Alliance's adaptive comfort approach rather than the absolute comfort ranges prescribed by Passivhaus.

In this final instalment of the story of sailing solo around the world covers the last leg of the Velux 5 Oceans Race from Charleston, USA to La Rochelle, France. This was the best leg of the entire race for me but there were still some major difficulties to overcome including a massive flooding incident that saw air crew being scrambled in Halifax, Nova Scotia and one of my canting keel ram pins breaking 400Nm from the finish. I take a little time at the end of the episode to reflect on what the entire escapade adds up to in my mind and look forward a little to the next lap of the planet in November 2020. In this episode I continue the story of my voyage solo across the Southern Ocean in the Velux 5 Oceans Race. In Episodes 6 & 7 of the Podcast I described the massive damage I suffered to my mainsail and how I struggled through to get it fixed and continue racing; Now I conclude the Southern Ocean Leg with the exciting dive towards the Horn followed by a major storm that promises to make my Horn rounding memorable if not traumatic! I also answer a listener question and explain the difference between an Open 60 & an IMOCA 60 and discuss the pitfalls and delights of having to prepare 5000 Calories a day for yourself offshore. In this episode I discuss the start of the Velux 5 Oceans Solo Race Around the World. Safe to say it was not the slick operation you may have perceived if you were standing far enough away on start day. Nearly crashing into the Canary Islands because I did not set my alarm clock, a huge headsail tears loose and nearly dismasts the boat; close calls with big ships & learning to sleep in 20 minute bursts -it's all here!
