In this episode I have a chat with Jenna Hallam about sports nutrition. Jenna is a dietican and we discuss how sports nutrition has become more mainstream in endurance sports. The golden rule was it being a no nerd chat. No detailed grams per hour chats.. just the basics and how to go about eating well for your sport. A little bit of background on Jenna : Double degree in Dietetics and Exercise Sport Science and completed the SDA Nutrition Course at the AIS. Began her professional career with private nutritional consultations and group fitness sessions. In the search of stability Jenna found herself specialising in aged care nutrition and the typical progression to management positions. During her time in aged care Jenna has kept in the loop of sports nutrition primarily by dabbling with her partners nutrition, who has been training for and racing triathlons for some time now, as well as some nutrition coaching with another triathlete. Having stepped away from the aged care scene and attended more triathlons with her partner, Jenna's interest and curiosity in sports nutrition has been rekindled.

Warren has published numerous articles over three decades and has a special interest in speed and agility training and assessment. His research, among other results, led to the development of the Reactive Strength Index and his deterministic model of agility performance. Warren is here to talk to Rob about agility, including what has changed since his got into the industry over 30 years ago. He describes how there is often a disconnect between the physical and academic side of agility performance, and how that can be reconciled. Warren also discussed how the cognitive side of the model has translated into a coach's day-to-day work, and whether testing can be integrated into a high-performance setting. Warren also provides some exceptional insight into how to include change direction testing and agility training into a programme, including what to change between sports and different positions, such as attacking and defending players in a team sport. This includes strategies into how to enhance agility, and how to adapt them for a different level of athlete. For all this and much more, hit the play button now to hear Warren's thoughts on a subject very few will know more about. “Wellness encompasses a healthy body, a sound mind and a tranquil spirit. Enjoy the journey as you strive for wellness.” — Laurette Gagnon Beaulieu Love when the #FITFAM comes through on the T&T mic! Today I welcome longtime fit pro, Lin Hill, to join me and share her journey as a human, athlete, wellness practitioner/professional, and her overall whole-body approach to health and happiness. Lin has a verity of certifications, years of experience on all kinds of athletes and competitors (as well as civilians:), and is currently earning her Masters in Oriental Medicine and a Masters in Acupuncture.Anyone that has ever played sports knows how important it is to maintain your body and along the way you learn the importance of the mind and how it really all connects. We have made major strides as far as “wellness” goes in the last 5 years, people are starting to take change of their own wellbeing and are motivated by high health care costs and even more importantly, just general unhappiness, to take the rains and be more conscious consumers when it comes to their own health. Athletes are lucky to be exposed to some of these forward-thinking wellness modalities like fascial stretching, but luckily things are becoming more mainstream and affordable for every person that just wants to feel well. Sports and competing has brought so many great health tips, tricks, and lifestyle hacks to my life, I am so excited to see more and more people questioning a better way and embracing their own journey with health. It’s a jungle out there to figure out what is right for you, so when you come across someone like Lin, trustworthy and knows a variety of wellness approaches, you keep them in your corner. If you are looking to heal an old injury (or a new one), fine tune your athletic ability, further understand how your mind and body connect, or just want to loosen up, hit up Lin and see how her whole-body approach can help you! Mind, body, soul… always working to keep that balance- #TurmericAndTequila baby! Highlights: Mind, body, soul… and spirit! The physical and mental connect. Fascial stretching and all human optimization tricks. Health and wellness, health is wealth. Western and Eastern medicine and medical approaches. Merging of the worlds, humans young and old questing a better way. Starting a business and believing in yourself. Community and asking for help. Lin Hill: My name is Lin Hill (she/her) and I was born in China but adopted at the age of 4 and grew up here in Denver, Colorado. I received my undergraduate degree in Exercise & Sport Science with a minor in Psychology from Oregon State University. Since graduating, I've received a variety of different certifications including, Muscle Activation Techniques, Fascial Stretch Therapy, and Lokte Method. I currently run and operate my own business, Synergistic Movement, where I like to specialize in sports injury and recovery. I am also currently working on getting a Masters in Oriental Medicine and a Masters in Acupuncture from Southwest Acupuncture College. Sports were always a huge part of my life. I grew up playing soccer since I was 4, dove a little bit throughout high school, was on the rowing team in college, and I am actively playing rugby now! My sports background heavily influenced my career as I would not have been able to survive my many years of sports and injuries without the assistance of the medical staff I encountered over the years! Synergistic Movement: Synergistic Movement brings together two key factors to human movement and recovery. Mobility: the ability to move or be moved freely and easily. Stability: the property of the body to maintain or restore it's original condition when disturbed from a condition of equilibrium or steady motion. Both of these are crucial to getting you to move efficiently and pain-free to get you back to the things you love! The ability to have a session of Fascial Stretch and/or Lokte Method and immediately follow that up with Muscle Activation Technique will help an individual not only increase range of motion, but also maintain and build upon those gains. Lin Hill is a soft tissue specialist with experience in the sports recovery, sports injury rehabilitation, and overall wellness. She has worked with people of all ages, sports and lifestyle backgrounds. Her focus is to get your body moving as efficiently and pain-free as possible by restoring both mobility and stability. The body responds to stress, trauma, overuse, injury, and inflammation by decreasing range of motion and muscles “shutting down” (muscle weakness) which results in improper body mechanics. This often presents itself as pain. Restoring proper body mechanics will increase the efficiency of the body and decrease pain. website: https://www.synergistic-movement.com/ IG: @synergisticmovement Connect with T&T: IG: @TurmericTequila Facebook: @TurmericAndTequila Website: www.TurmericAndTequila.com Host: Kristen Olson IG: @Madonnashero Tik Tok: @Madonnashero Email: Info@KOAlliance.com Website: www.KOAlliance.com

Vinny Brandstadter, real-life meat gorilla, joins the show today to talk about principals of training, infrasternal angles, the importance of environment, balancing expectations, and narrowing your focus to get the results you want. He obtained a bachelor in Exercise Sport Science at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, interned at Peak Performance, and currently works at Hype Gym Union Square in New York City. Vinny is certified through the NSCA, USAW, FRCms, and Bioforce. We kick things off talking about that awkward transition period of going from school to the real world of training and the biggest challenges this presents. In particular, we hit on the importance of environment and principals as opposed to being married to specific exercises. From there, we jam on what a training session looks like for Vinny's clients, and how he goes about tweaking individual exercises to match a client's specific needs. The significant point here is using training as the intervention and not getting so lost that you have your clients on the floor, breathing for the entire session. Lastly, we discuss Vinny's current training, his methodology changes over the past few years, and his road to a 500 lbs front squat. Enjoy and hit that subscribe button if you learned a thing or two. High School Strength Coach Podcast | Strength & Conditioning | Performance | Training | Athletics
I talk with Scott Meier from the Farmington Tigers located in Farmington Minnesota in the Midwest. Farmington high is in one of the toughest conferences in Minnesota and Coach Meier knows he has to have his athletes ready for every sport because of this high level of competition. Coach Meier has a lot of great things to share in this interview and he goes into depth about the tiger strength and conditioning program and I am sure you will be able to pull more than a few nuggets of info out of it to help mold and refine your own program. Scott Meier will be starting his 18th year at Farmington this fall, and was the head Strength & Conditioning coach at Lakeville High School two years prior to that while working as a personal trainer. Scott has a B.S. in Exercise & Sport Science from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, and did his graduate work and teacher licensure at the University of Minnesota. His additional certifications have included: Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (NSCA), Certified Personal Trainer (ACE), and USA Weightlifting Certified Club Coach (Level 1). Scott coached the successful Farmington weightlifting team for 8 years and is a nationally ranked masters-level sprinter. Lots of great things to hear from coach Meier, so listen up! The first time I met Mike Bledsoe three years ago, he was hunched over in the corner of a busy porch at the convention meditating with a "" app. I took one look at this bearded, tattooed Crossfitter and judged him to be yet another exercise and fitness junkie meathead. I was dead wrong. Mike is profound, interesting, chock full of knowledge on everything from plant-based medicine to the fitness business to meditation and breathwork, and (like me) was homeschooled K-12. He is one of the founders and owners of Faction Strength & Conditioning Home of CrossFit Memphis. He has a degree in Exercise & Sport Science as well as a long list of meaningless certifications that might awe some people but not most and definitely not the people who are probably on this website. At 19 years of age, Mike thought he should donate his body and mind to the service of his country in the US Navy. It was there that he discovered that he didn’t like taking orders. He did extremely well and had a good time, but being part of a system was not his ideal (and he’s one idealistic dude). Getting out was scary, but made the entire world available to him. At the ripe old age of 24, he began college at the University of Memphis in the business department but before the first semester could end he changed his major to Health & Human Performance. It was there that he was first introduced to Olympic Weightlifting, by Dr. Brian Schilling. While in school he regularly donated his body and parts of it to research in the name of science. It was during his senior year that he and a guy named Rob Conner started CrossFit Memphis. Dropping out of school after the first semester of grad school, Mike devoted his time to growing the business and becoming a better coach. Mike “Matraca” Bledsoe (matraca means chatterbox in portuguese) is most well known for his ability to not shut up, and you'll understand why during our discussion in today's podcast, in which you'll discover: -Why Mike was so confused the first time he saw a PVC pipe in a gym.... -The strange story of Mike and Ben's meeting at Joe DeSena's farm in Vermont... -What Mike discovered by going on his first magic mushroom trip in a dog park... -How psilocybin and ayahuasca rewire neurons in your brains... -How to find a good shaman if you decide you want to do ayahuasca... -Mike's one-two combo for morning breathwork and deep tissue work... -Mike's evening routine, and what he completely avoids for 90 minutes before bed... -And much more...
