Today we will be exploring how body work and movement called Fascial Stretch Therapy can elevate your well being. To help explain the benefits of stretch therapy, we are joined by the owner of Trust Your Body, Rebecca Nunez. Rebecca, has a background in biology and switched from the medical field once she realized through healing her brother's severe injury through stretch therapy that modern medicine barely touches the surface in long term healing. For five years in the practice she uses her "trust your body" method to give her clients the tools to connect their brain to their body and to prevent pain and to live in tune with themselves. In today's episode we will be covering:What is Fascial Stretch Therapy and how does it defer from traditional training such as the Chiropractor and PT?The emotional benefits of Fascial Stretch Therapy and energy healing How we can use mindfulness to go from where we are currently in life to where we want to beWhy modern medicine wants you to fail To connect with Rebecca:Trust Your Body Website@bendwithrebecca If you want more self care tips along with daily affirmations, make sure to check out our FREE Self Care Guide to use daily.
Geoff Wade is a man on a mission. A mission to get people more flexible physically. As a strength & conditioning coach and trainer, he realized how both athletes and everyday folk were always so inflexible & tight. So he shifted his professional focus from primarily a trainer/gym owner to the founder of “Stretch-Flo”, his unique hands-on stretching techniques that combines Fascial Stretch Therapy, the use of modalities (ie. Massage gun), and some “secret” techniques that he created to help people get out of pain and become more flexible. Geoff Wade has been part of our TD Mastermind Community for a decade, is the stretch therapist for the Philadelphia Sixers and multiple NFL, MLB, and pro athletes, and he's one heckuva teammate, practitioner, entrepreneur…and family man. I believe you will hear that in today's IMPACT SHOW. Without further ado, let's dive in now and hear from the one & only Geoff Wade. Some of the things you will hear include: How a trip to San Diego to work with Todd's NFL athletes changed his trajectory. Geoff's background as a wrestler and athlete and family man. What does success mean and look like to you. What got you into your profession and ultimately allowed you to create your own stretch technique? What's the best/worst thing about being a business owner? What's the best/worst thing about being a Dad? How has being a Dad affected your mindset? Explain how your business has evolved over the 12 years it's been open. How did your upbringing prepare you for the “now”? What are some events in your life that impacted your life? What does the future look like for Geoff Wade and where can someone experience Stretch-Flo? Enjoy the “Jersey Talk” and fun banter that Geoff and I share about the Jersey Shore. The ABMP Podcast | Speaking With the Massage & Bodywork Profession
Structurally, the fascia system suspends, supports, and enables all anatomical movement from skin to cells and everything in between. In this episode of The ABMP Podcast, Darren and Kristin are joined by Stretch to Win founders Ann and Chris Frederick to discuss Frederick Stretch Therapy (FST) and its origin, how FST can be integrated with massage therapy and other bodywork, and what the future holds for FST. Ann Frederick is the creator of a manual and movement therapy and assisted stretching called Frederick Stretch Therapy (FST). Her technique was originally designed for professional football players in the NFL. It then evolved to the public to address common conditions of pain, movement dysfunction, and lack of flexibility. Ann directs her school of training in FST at the Stretch to Win Institute in Chandler, Arizona, and Toronto, Ontario. Chris Frederick is an integrative physical therapist/physiotherapist, lead teacher of FST, practitioner of Anatomy Trains Structural Integration, and practitioner of Taiji, Qigong, and Taoist meditation. Chris has specialized in providing manual and movement therapy for several professional dance companies—including the New York City Ballet—and for professional athletes. Former professional dancers, the Fredericks co-wrote the books Stretch to Win and Fascial Stretch Therapy, both in their 2nd editions. Chris also contributed chapters and other content for eight additional books, most of which are bestsellers in the categories of fascia, movement, and manual therapy. FST is based on original research completed in 1997 and 2017 and is scheduled for another study starting in 2023. The Fredericks are excited to share their experience and thoughts about the exponential growth of assisted stretching, what makes FST uniquely different, and how it is integrated with all forms of massage and bodywork to enhance results and success with your clients. Cultivating sensitivity and trust is essential to keeping clients safe – especially as we are aware that many women and men have experienced physical or sexual trauma. In this episode of The ABMP Podcast, Kristin and Darren speak with Dr. Ben Benjamin about how to avoid violating client boundaries, understanding the patient is in charge of the session, why it's important for the therapist to understand the power differential, and whether maintaining boundaries are a shared responsibility between client and therapist. Dr. Ben E. Benjamin has done much pioneering work in the areas of ethics, communication, and sexual assault prevention, writing articles on professional, sexual and business ethics. He is the co-author of The Ethics of Touch, a textbook used in schools throughout North America to teach ethics and boundaries to massage therapists as well as other hands-on health care professionals. He has been an expert witness in cases of sexual assault in the massage and bodywork field since 2004. In 1974 Dr. Benjamin founded the Muscular Therapy Institute, a school he owned and nurtured for over 30 years. In the 1980s he developed a 150-hour curriculum in ethics and communication skills for therapists in training. He has taught courses in ethics, boundaries, sexuality and communication to somatic therapists for over 30 years. Additionally, Dr. Benjamin earned a Ph.D. in Sports Medicine and has dedicated his life to helping people cope with and overcome the pain and stress caused by injury to the body in his muscular therapy sports injury private practice since 1963. In this episode of The ABMP Podcast, Kristin speaks with Gil Hedley about his philosophy around integral anatomy, the different layers of fascia, why fascia responds better to a gentle approach, and how working in the dissection lab helped him to appreciate, explore, and embody the wonders of the human form. Gil has been teaching “integral anatomy” in the lab, lecture hall, and online at gilhedley.com since 1995 to professionals from the entire range of healing and fitness modalities. He is the producer of the Integral Anatomy Series, the author of several books of poetry and prose, and has created the “Anatomy from A to Z” project, a comprehensive 240-hour on-camera tour of human anatomy based on his integral, whole-body approach. In the latest episode of the Empowerography Podcast, my guest is Emily Zaunbrecher. I was born in Baton Rouge, LA. I “grew up” in several places, because my dad was a college football coach. Always a Cajun girl at heart, though. I got my first college degree from the University of Florida in Visual Arts and worked as a photographer for a little while. I later decided I wanted to return to school for nursing. I worked for 7 years in a Neuro/Trauma ICU. That was wild… honestly, I feel like it's some of the toughest (/most rewarding) work out there, but I feel like it prepared me for ANYTHING. I once thought that nursing would be a lifetime career, and I will continue to maintain my license, but it became apparent after some time (in my soul, I think it was always apparent) that I was just not meant to work within “the system” forever. I started to learn yoga and then completed my yoga teacher training. I could then see the path to another way. As I was trying to figure out how to transition out of the hospital, I also became certified in a bodywork modality called Fascial Stretch Therapy and started on my fascia education. Eventually, circumstances aligned for me to be able to open my own yoga studio that also became sort of a private practice space for my expanding skill set. The space is called The Studieaux, calling back to my Louisiana roots. In this episode we discuss nursing, yoga, fasical stretch therapy, weightlifting, learning to let go and self-worth. Water treatments have a universal and timeless appeal. In this episode, MaryBetts Sinclair discusses how she “found” hydrotherapy, when—and why—hydrotherapy re-emerged in modern times, how massage therapists can incorporate hydrotherapy into their practices, and whether MTs should charge more for these services. She is the author of two books on massage for children, as well as the new edition of Hydrotherapy for Bodyworkers: Improving Outcomes with Water Therapies, Second Edition. Can reducing excess tension during bodywork sessions promote career longevity? Author and educator David Lobenstine thinks so. David is a proponent of efficient practitioner performance, and during this podcast we talk about his recent article in Massage & Bodywork magazine: “Find Your Floppy.” David breaks down the myth that massage therapists must work as hard as possible to be good practitioners, and he provides guidance for observing your technique and reacting while working. Take the floppy pledge and learn how to work as a diad with your clients. David Lobenstine has been massaging, teaching, writing, and editing for over 15 years. He is an authorized instructor of Pre- and Perinatal Massage Therapy workshops and coauthor of the book Pre-and Perinatal Massage Therapy. Authors Janet Penny and Rebecca Sturgeon join the podcast to discuss their new book and how it builds on the work of professional luminaries like Gayle MacDonald and Tracy Walton. We discuss mythbusting massage therapy and cancer care, working as part of an integrative team with other health-care providers, and considerations and treatment approaches. With the chances ever-increasing that all practitioners will work with someone either currently undergoing treatment or having undergone treatment in the past, it's critical to understand considerations when working with his population and the nuances of pressure, position, duration, and site to ensure client safety. Janet Penny is a registered massage therapist and has extensive experience working with people living with cancer in both her private practice and at an integrative cancer center in Ontario, Canada. She has developed an approach that addresses the multifaceted needs of oncology massage clients, including focus on pre- and post-surgical treatments, scar tissue, radiation fibrosis, and neuropathy. Rebecca Sturgeon started her career as a massage therapist in 2008 and began working with oncology patients in 2010. She has worked in clinical and community environments, providing massage and manual lymphatic drainage. She has been a massage therapy educator for the majority of her career and currently works as the Education Director for Healwell. The ABMP Podcast | Speaking With the Massage & Bodywork Profession
Low-back pain is certainly one of the, if not the most, pressing issues practitioners will face when working with clientele. More than 70 million people visit doctors each year with low-back pain, so as an MT, knowing the what and how of working with this population can be valuable. Dr. Ben Benjamin joins the podcast to talk about his personal experience with low-back pain, common myths and misconceptions surrounding this injury, the most common causes, how to prevent low-back pain through exercise and diet, and knowing when hands-on treatment is appropriate. Dr. Benjamin relays the value of a health history intake, hands-on tests for assessment, and when to refer out. Ben Benjamin, PhD in sports medicine, has been practicing massage since 1963 and has been nationally recognized for his contributions to massage therapy, receiving an induction into the Massage Therapy Hall of Fame in 2010. With his years of experience as a therapist, educator, and author, Dr. Benjamin has been regarded as a voice of authority in the muscular therapy field. He was the founder and president of the Muscular Therapy Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts, which began in 1974. Shortly after the Muscular Therapy Institute opened, Dr. Benjamin enhanced his practice by studying under Dr. James Cyriax, widely known for his pioneering work in orthopedic medicine. He has also integrated Aaron Mattes' Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) techniques into his therapy. With a passion for helping individuals cope with and overcome pain, Dr. Benjamin has been lecturing internationally for more than four decades and written countless articles in publications such as Massage & Bodywork magazine. Dr. Benjamin is also the author of several works referenced by those educators and students in the field, such as Listen to Your Pain, Are You Tense?, Exercise Without Injury, and co-author of The Ethics of Touch and Conversation Transformation. “Wellness encompasses a healthy body, a sound mind and a tranquil spirit. Enjoy the journey as you strive for wellness.” — Laurette Gagnon Beaulieu Love when the #FITFAM comes through on the T&T mic! Today I welcome longtime fit pro, Lin Hill, to join me and share her journey as a human, athlete, wellness practitioner/professional, and her overall whole-body approach to health and happiness. Lin has a verity of certifications, years of experience on all kinds of athletes and competitors (as well as civilians:), and is currently earning her Masters in Oriental Medicine and a Masters in Acupuncture.Anyone that has ever played sports knows how important it is to maintain your body and along the way you learn the importance of the mind and how it really all connects. We have made major strides as far as “wellness” goes in the last 5 years, people are starting to take change of their own wellbeing and are motivated by high health care costs and even more importantly, just general unhappiness, to take the rains and be more conscious consumers when it comes to their own health. Athletes are lucky to be exposed to some of these forward-thinking wellness modalities like fascial stretching, but luckily things are becoming more mainstream and affordable for every person that just wants to feel well. Sports and competing has brought so many great health tips, tricks, and lifestyle hacks to my life, I am so excited to see more and more people questioning a better way and embracing their own journey with health. It’s a jungle out there to figure out what is right for you, so when you come across someone like Lin, trustworthy and knows a variety of wellness approaches, you keep them in your corner. If you are looking to heal an old injury (or a new one), fine tune your athletic ability, further understand how your mind and body connect, or just want to loosen up, hit up Lin and see how her whole-body approach can help you! Mind, body, soul… always working to keep that balance- #TurmericAndTequila baby! Highlights: Mind, body, soul… and spirit! The physical and mental connect. Fascial stretching and all human optimization tricks. Health and wellness, health is wealth. Western and Eastern medicine and medical approaches. Merging of the worlds, humans young and old questing a better way. Starting a business and believing in yourself. Community and asking for help. Lin Hill: My name is Lin Hill (she/her) and I was born in China but adopted at the age of 4 and grew up here in Denver, Colorado. I received my undergraduate degree in Exercise & Sport Science with a minor in Psychology from Oregon State University. Since graduating, I've received a variety of different certifications including, Muscle Activation Techniques, Fascial Stretch Therapy, and Lokte Method. I currently run and operate my own business, Synergistic Movement, where I like to specialize in sports injury and recovery. I am also currently working on getting a Masters in Oriental Medicine and a Masters in Acupuncture from Southwest Acupuncture College. Sports were always a huge part of my life. I grew up playing soccer since I was 4, dove a little bit throughout high school, was on the rowing team in college, and I am actively playing rugby now! My sports background heavily influenced my career as I would not have been able to survive my many years of sports and injuries without the assistance of the medical staff I encountered over the years! Synergistic Movement: Synergistic Movement brings together two key factors to human movement and recovery. Mobility: the ability to move or be moved freely and easily. Stability: the property of the body to maintain or restore it's original condition when disturbed from a condition of equilibrium or steady motion. Both of these are crucial to getting you to move efficiently and pain-free to get you back to the things you love! The ability to have a session of Fascial Stretch and/or Lokte Method and immediately follow that up with Muscle Activation Technique will help an individual not only increase range of motion, but also maintain and build upon those gains. Lin Hill is a soft tissue specialist with experience in the sports recovery, sports injury rehabilitation, and overall wellness. She has worked with people of all ages, sports and lifestyle backgrounds. Her focus is to get your body moving as efficiently and pain-free as possible by restoring both mobility and stability. The body responds to stress, trauma, overuse, injury, and inflammation by decreasing range of motion and muscles “shutting down” (muscle weakness) which results in improper body mechanics. This often presents itself as pain. Restoring proper body mechanics will increase the efficiency of the body and decrease pain. website: https://www.synergistic-movement.com/ IG: @synergisticmovement Connect with T&T: IG: @TurmericTequila Facebook: @TurmericAndTequila Website: www.TurmericAndTequila.com Host: Kristen Olson IG: @Madonnashero Tik Tok: @Madonnashero Email: Info@KOAlliance.com Website: www.KOAlliance.com

Tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow are musculoskeletal pathologies hallmarked by elbow pain. However, even though these conditions cause elbow pain, they are not conditions of the actual elbow joint; rather they are overuse syndromes of the musculature of the hand and/or fingers. And these conditions aren’t just relegated to those participating in these two sports. These overuse injuries can be caused by actions as simple as gripping your steering wheel, a pen, or your cell phone too tightly. Listen in as Dr. Muscolino describes causes and approaches to this condition, and we hear how both he and co-host Darren Buford describe living with these conditions. Dr. Muscolino has been a manual and movement therapy educator for more than 30 years. He is the author of The Muscular System Manual; The Muscle and Bone Palpation Manual with Trigger Points, Referral Patterns, and Stretching; and Kinesiology. He teaches continuing education workshops around the world, including a certification in Clinical Orthopedic Manual Therapy, and has created LearnMuscles Continuing Education, a video streaming subscription service for manual and movement professionals, with seven new video lessons added each week. And he has created Muscle Anatomy Master Class, the most comprehensive and detailed muscle anatomy online class in the world, with each muscle taught in five distinct video lessons. Where do you hold your joy? Your grief? Stretch therapist and injury specialist Asma Kassam reminds us to listen to our own body's stories. KJ and Asma explore ways that health challenges--Asma herself has experienced female triad syndrome, adrenal fatigue, and numerous injuries -- prompt one to fully step into her mission. Asma serves as guide for women in trusting their divine feminine life force energy to find their optimal flow and live each day empowered, fierce, and in alignment. Takeaways:It starts with breath. Improper breathing leads to misalignment and 9 of 10 times causes injuries in the neck and shoulder regions. Dance it out, move out of your head and into your body.Women hold their shame in their deep abdomen: womb, cervix. Grief when stored in our bodies manifests in our digestion and in our shoulders. Our bodies will tell us what we need. Listen. Unlearn, relearn, break down the lifelong conditioning of "health" Be intentional with your downtime and rest. Engage with our femininity simply by being collaborative, intuitive, and listening to what we already know. Please Rate and Review This Podcast if our Stories have astonished you too.
