This spring I'm releasing bonus episodes of The Take Home. No new lectures on leadership, instead I'm sharing the amazing podcasts created by the students in my Leadership for Sport Professionals class. Today's bonus episode features "Until Next Time" produced and created by Dabney Moore, Alan McGuire, and Peyton Wagner. In the podcast, they interview Michael Lahoud who is an Analyst for CBS Sports Golazo Network, a color analyst for Austin FC, and on-air talent for ESPN soccer. And in a previous life, he was an assistant soccer coach for Trinity University, which is where our paths crossed, and he first meet Alan. During the interview they discuss the Behavioral Approach to leadership and the Path-Goal Theory. Michael was a standout student-athlete at Wake Forest and the stories he shares about lessons learned, starting in the recruiting process, are outstanding. "Do you want to make history?" What an amazing question and by answering yes, Michael did indeed make history by winning a National Championship at Wake and influencing so many other indivudals in the years afterwards. With a lengthy professional soccer career at Chivas USA, Miami FC, SAFC, FC Cincinnati, among others, Michael also played in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and AFCON Qualifiers and numerous other matches with the Sierra Leone National Team. I love how Michael talks about the need to take risks, to say YES, and to keep showing up. Great leaders know that, "closed mouths don't get feed" and Michael certainly personifies that mantra. This is a fast-paced, delightful conversation. Enjoy! The music for the episode, The Gentleman, was created by DivKid.

Welcome to a special episode of the African football round-up as the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers kick off!Throughout the history of the FIFA World Cup, Africa has often found itself underrepresented. We trace back the journey to guaranteed qualification including the continent boycotting the 1966 FIFA World Cup. We then ask if 9.5 qualifying places is the right number. We think that 9.5 ensures there are enough places for top African sides and doesn't dilute quality. Finally we recap the first day of qualifying including three David vs Goliath matchups including: Egypt vs Djibouti, Algeria vs Somalia and Nigeria vs Lesotho

The Football Association director of the Women's Professional Game – Kelly Simmons - tells us 5 December was chosen as the date for this year's women's FA Cup Final between Arsenal and Chelsea as it marks the 100 anniversary of the governing body banning women's football. Simmons describes that decision as probably the lowest point in the history of the game and says the FA are keen to be positive about the day and celebrate how far the women's game has come in the years since. Simmons also discusses what needs to change in international football following a series of one sided Fifa World Cup Qualifiers – including England's 20-0 win over Latvia this week. Jamaica netball captain Jhaniele Fowler tells us how she didn't let a serious heart condition she developed as a child, stop her pursuing a career in sport. Fowler has only just stopped taking medication for rheumatic heart disease. She also tells us how her playing schedule and the Covid-19 pandemic have combined to keep her and her daughter apart for the last two netball seasons. Fowler describes surprising her daughter by arriving home from overseas unannounced and how her dream is to have her on the podium with her at a Commonwealth Games or World Cup. Fiona Brady, a Special Olympian who has represented Ireland in Basketball, Tenpin Bowling and Floorball, joins us to discuss the impact of not being able to play sport during the Covid-19 pandemic has had on her. This week saw International day of persons with disabilities take place and a new campaign called "Faces of Basketball" is aiming to give people with intellectual disabilities the confidence to return to sport. In Sporting Witness, we return to 1961, when England's top players threatened strike action in order to force the Football League to scrap its limit on wages of 20 pounds a week. Their victory was a turning point for the sport as it ushered in the modern era of football mega-salaries. The late England captain Jimmy Armfield, gives us his recollections of the period. And – we're live in Saudi Arabia with Jennie Gow ahead of the first ever Formula 1 race in the country, John Southall is at the London Stadium ahead of West Ham United v Chelsea in the Premier League and Jamie Broughton joins us with the latest from the UK Snooker Championship. We're just over a year away from the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and at this rate, we could be cheering on Team Canada in Qatar for just the first time since 1986. They still need to finish as one of the top 3 nations in qualifying, but with a big win last night, they're poised to accomplish just that. Our show contributor Jawn Jang has more.
On this week's show we review the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers, as Ivory Coast miss out on a play-off place, and as South Africa alleged dirty tricks as they lost 1-0 to a soft-looking Ghana penalty. And in the EPL, managers Eddie Howe, Steven Gerrard and Dean Smith kick off with new clubs.

What an entertaining (Well, Hilarious) one it was. But before we get to that, we start off with some news from the Premier League. Aston Villa have acquired the services of the Liverpool Legend Steven Gerrard as their Manager. Another managerial change came from Norwich appointing Dean Smith. The Ex manager of Aston Villa was scooped up by the Canaries. We then move on to the Fifa World Cup Qualifiers that happened and we took a closer look at the England team. They won their fixture vs Albania 5-0 and against San Marino 10-0. Harry Kane claimed & goals in those two matches and Harry Maguire scored in each of the matches. The two Harry's were "silencing their critics" according to some media outlets. We discuss this and give our thoughts on the two. We also get into a discussion of the "stat padding" we see amongst the European Nations and whether this is an unfair advantage over teams from other continents. We then move on to the controversial calls we witnessed in the African Fifa World Cup Qualifiers. The South African National team went up against Ghana in a vital fixture for Qualification. There was a penalty given that has gotten people talking so the hosts discussed what they thought. All of this will be the topics in this weeks episode.
Welcome to another episode of the Crossing Soccer Borders podcast show. We talk about the upcoming CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers including the biggest rivalry of Mexico vs USA. With Team USA beating Mexico for a record 3 straight times, adding another "Dos A Cero" to the record. Mexico is still in a good spot in the table but will tension increase if they lose against Canada? Can Pulisic and USMNT be consistent and gain points against Jamaica? Which of the teams currently in the bottom 4 of the table have a shot at the 1/2 ticket spot? Hosted by Rudy and Rodrigo Segura. . Be sure to Like, Share and Subscribe! .
