THANK YOU SO MUCH for your FABULOUS podcasts, which by the way, have inspired and taught me more than any magazine or book on the shelf EVER could! I may not be a bride...well, I was almost 27 years ago, and my oh my how things have changed; however, I am a Mother of the Bride and not just one bride, but TWO brides. Yes... both of my daughters are getting married one month (technically 5 weeks) apart. The first daughter got married on February 2nd and is currently on her honeymoon, and the second wedding will take place on March 9th. Both daughters have completely different styles, so the second wedding is certainly not going to be a “copy and paste” kind of wedding. Your podcasts have educated me and allowed me to envision a perfect wedding day for both my girls in two totally different spaces! There is absolutely NO WAY I could have planned these weddings without the help of Kim and Shannon! (I actually refer to these two rockstars to my family and friends as my “virtual besties” although I’ve never met them personally!) If you are the bride or the Mother of a Bride, I strongly recommend their podcasts to you! It was a game changer for me, and for that, I will forever be grateful to my two virtual besties!

Asian and Pacific Island Weddings – Episode #118 Today we have with us guest host, Rebecca Grant of New Creations Weddings. Rebecca began her wedding planning career on the island of O’ahu. She has planned weddings in Oahu, Maui, Portland, and the greater Seattle area. Rebecca is seen as the premier authority on Asian wedding customs within the Seattle market. She is here today to give us a little insight into Asian/Pacific Island Weddings. Tell us about your journey, how did you become an Asian/Pacific Island wedding specialist? What traditions do you most often see? Chinese weddings Japanese weddings Filipino Hawaiian What do you do if a couple is Asian, but doesn’t really want to bring in a lot of culture or traditions into the wedding day? We understand and respect family dynamics We understand what is done if an item or gift is given See if we want to honor parents/grandparents Are there other vendors that are bilingual or specialize in Asian weddings? I have found several photographers and a few videographers, however, have not been able to find an officiant or DJ that is bilingual. What do you do in that case? Bring in a professional interpreter or have a family member who is comfortable What about Asian desserts? We go through an Asian bakery or if a traditional cake is wanted, there are several bakeries that offer less-sweet cakes/pastries. What do you suggest if a couple is getting married at a venue that has in-house catering? Will they be able to replicate a lot of the flavors/specialty foods? Most venues are very respectful of the needs of Asian cultures, and if they don’t have a chef who is experienced or confident in that, they are willing to bring in an outside vendor to be sure it is as authentic as possible. Bridal Shower Etiquette- Episode # 113 Are you subscribed to the show? Well, don’t miss a show! Subscribe to From Ring to Veil anywhere you listen to podcasts. If you don’t know how just let us know and we will help you!! We received an email from a listener asking about bridal shower etiquette and we thought it would be a great topic to discuss. Courtney Shaw's email answer Who hosts? Family members Groom's mother or sister Bridal Party According to Emily Post, the MOH or bridesmaids are not required to host but are encouraged to do so. The Hostess is required to give a gift. Showers should be intimate gatherings, so close friends and family are usually invited. Please ask the bride's advice on who to invite. When to host- two months to 2 weeks before wedding date Guest to the bridal shower should be wedding guests You can have multiple bridal showers, would choose a different theme for them Personal Household Charity Couples Honeymoon/Travel Also if having multiple showers, it would be better to invite people who haven't attended one already, immediate family not included. If invited to more than one shower, you need to only bring a gift to the first one attended. Gifts are usually opened after food is served, Your guests expect you to open gifts so they can ooh and awe over what they gave you. Put the registry info on the invite it will let your guests know what you want and need.  Also for a Personal or lingerie shower include your sizes. You do not need to pass around your personal gifts, you can hold them up and they can gasp at them but please don't pass around. Depending on the type of shower, you do not need to have games to play.  Say you are having an afternoon tea, I wouldn't play silly games. Not all of us have been a bridesmaid.  So not all of us know what it's even like. Jen has been to many, so we see her as an expert.  She's here to help us view the wedding from a different perspective. A few things that she shares with us: Tells us about herself. Tells us about her book: Always a Bridesmaid, for Hire.  What is it really like to be a bridesmaid? Realistically what can a bridesmaid do for the bride? What should she be expected to do? Neutral Wedding Colors - Episode #102 Are you subscribed to the show? Well, don’t miss a show! Subscribe to From Ring to Veil anywhere you listen to podcasts. If you don’t know how just let us know and we will help you!! What is a neutral color? Neutral colors include hues like beige, black, gray, ivory, taupe and white. Neutral usually means without color, but these hues sometimes have faint undertones of blue, gold, peach, pink, tan and yellow. Neutral colors do not show up on the color wheel. People in fashion, decorating and other professions that use colors prominently refer to neutral colors as earth tones. These colors have a flexibility and visual balance that works in a number of settings. They also have a classic, subtle feel in rooms, clothing, and furniture that also make use of bolder and more vibrant colors in their designs. Neutral wedding colors can be achieved in a lot of ways.  It doesn't just mean cream and tan! The key to a neutral palette is to be subtle.  Combine it with sparkle or metallics. Pink and Olive Ivory and Greenery Grey and Organics Silver and Golds Light Grey, Blush and pale green Gold and Lilac River rock color palette- muted grays, browns, blacks The use of natural elements and textures give your neutral wedding some depth and dimension. In this episode, we answer the hard-hitting wedding questions about shoes, veils, and peeing with your dress on! We took to the internet and found questions that real brides are asking.  Here are a few of them! Veil or no veil? Should I wear white? How do I make my mother in law happy without compromising on my wants? Where to get your measurements taken? Do I need to include the dress code on the invite? Do I really need welcome bags for out of town guests? Do I really need someone to hold my dress while I pee? Is there an appropriate way to kiss at the ceremony? Where do I put my engagement ring during the ceremony? What is the best way to greet our guests? Can I take my shoes off at the reception? In this episode, we are giving you a few options for honoring the ones that have passed, during your wedding. There are things to consider first but we have a few ideas and suggestions to help you decide what is the best way to honor those you love(d). Consider first:  How recent is the loss? If recent, you must grieve first only because you want this to be a happy occasion. Will your guests be crying tears of sadness or joy? Do you want your tribute to be secret or public? Honoring lost loved ones at your wedding : Wear something that reminds you of that person Use something they have given you Tribute in the ceremony program Light a candle Photo table Toast in their memory Reading for poem Instead of favors donate to their favorite charity Moment of silence Save them a seat – rose or bouquet Wrap bouquet in a tie that he once wore Sew cherished photo into your wedding gown Handwritten note that you have from them Man"s dress shirt sewed into your dress Tiny picture frames or frame on bouquet Wedding band bracelet Carry Family heirloom Include family recipe on menu Floral arrangement in their honor and include a note in the program Include their fav flowers in your bouquet Favorite song for ceremony and more [Tweet theme="basic-white"]I found a great #weddingplanning #Podcast about how to honor the ones that have passed on. that we here at From Ring to Veil are not fond of the wedding favor unless it is something unique or practical.  We feel that as a guest a favor and/or a gift is not necessary.  Guests are there to enjoy and share in the wedding celebrations.  BUT if you feel as though you need or want to give a favor please do.  But before you hand out the bubble or jar of jelly, do a little research and go with something unique that isn't going to be left or thrown away. We have some wedding favor do's and don'ts for you to consider. Do  Put a bit of yourself into the favor. Example: You or your groom are an artist, make something that is reflective of you so that it is personal Make sure there is a purpose or meaning behind it.
