Drums & Demons: The Tragic Journey of Jim Gordon by acclaimed music critic and author Joel Selvin. In addition to a large feature story in The Guardian, advance reviews are starting to come in and the responses to this biography on the groundbreaking drummer and his troubled life are universally positive. “It's a one-of-a-kind story, and captures the total highs and unbelievable lows of a man who helped create our present-day music of the spheres,” Americana Highways commented. The Houston Press said, “In his research, Selvin had to learn almost as much about mental health and medical conditions as music.” NYS Music says the book “provides the first comprehensive view of Gordon's vast musical achievements and a harrowing yet empathetic appraisal of the most treacherous of mental illnesses which brought him down,” referring to Selvin as “One of rock's greatest journalists.” The Arts Fuse credits Selvin in chronicling the drummer's rise as a gifted young musician and highlights that the book's “research is comprehensive.” Publisher's Weekly states, "Without downplaying the gruesome details of Gordon's crime, Selvin gracefully portrays the musician as 'more than his disease.' This affecting account sheds new light on one of rock's most complicated figures.” Library Journal's review points out, “It's a tribute to Selvin that he handles the contrasts and complexities of Gordon's life with sympathy here, while not shying away from the toll Gordon took on those around him . . . consistently compelling from start to finish.” Selvin's riveting narrative follows the man who many consider the greatest rock drummer of all time, from his humble beginnings as a teenage touring musician, to his many landmark accomplishments in the studio and on the road, through his downward spiral into mental illness, matricide and incarceration. With the cooperation of the late rock legend's family, and based on his trademark extensive, detailed research, Selvin uncovers one of the darkest stories in popular music, further cementing his reputation as a master of rock noir.

From the conversation that I had with Julio Agustin, who is a Theatrical consultant and entrepreneur, I have some key takeaways I wanted to share. First, resisting change and things shifting often makes your experience during the change or shift worse. Do your best to release control and let the change happen. On the flip side we all reserve the right to change our mind. If you want to change or shift, do it. You have a right too, it's your choice. Finally, let all your creativity out. Live the biggest fullest life you can, and let your creativity lead the way! Julio Agustin is an associate professor and director of Music Theatre at Elon University. He has performed in six Broadway shows (Chicago, Fosse, Steel Pier, others). As a director-choreographer, he has been nominated for such awards as the Audelco Award, Best Director (Sweet Charity @ New Haarlem Arts Theatre, NYC); Syracuse Area Live Theatre, Best Choreographer (In the Heights @ Hangar Theatre); and Houston Press, Best Choreographer (Guys and Dolls @ Theatre Under the Stars).  He has written the book and lyrics to two musicals and is the author of The Professional Actor's Handbook: From Casting Call to Curtain Call and also “Navigating the Musical Theatre Industry for Latinx Actors” in the upcoming Latinx Actor Training published by Routledge.  Get In touch: Julio Agustin  Instagram: @JulioAgustinNYC Website: https://www.julioagustin.com/ Ayana Major Bey  Website: www.ayanabey.com Instagram: @ayanambey, @theartistpivot  Monthly Newsletter: https://www.ayanabey.com/podcast Show Sponsor: Get 10% off your first month with BetterHelp at https://betterhelp.com/artistpivot  ******* Host & Exec. Running a business is challenging, and there are many aspects to focus on. Marketing is an extremely important function for most businesses, as this is the way to get the word out about the company and attract new clients. However, as times change, marketing systems need to change as well. The demands from customers change quickly, there is more of a dependence on technology, and a constant social media presence is imperative.  For small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), keeping up with changing marketing needs is tough, if not impossible, when relying on in-house marketing professionals. It is very challenging to find experts in all areas to launch and maintain a marketing campaign without blowing the budget out of the water. For SMBs, this is just not realistic from manpower or financial perspective.  This is where Marketing as a Service (MaaS) comes in. It allows startups and smaller companies to execute marketing campaigns to their fullest while allowing in-house personnel to focus on the fundamental and daily business needs of the company.   ABSTRACT:  Marketing as a Service is about much more than just marketing. It is not a one-size-fits-all approach, as providers get to know and understand each business so they can meet individual needs. Businesses of all sizes should focus on what goals they want to achieve and the strategies they want to use to get there. A good MaaS company wants to dig into the business to see what platforms and tools are currently being used as well as the people and processes that can be used to drive success.  Companies that have decided to hire a Marketing as a Service provider should do some analysis of their own operations before hiring so that they can get the best resources for their money. A good question to ask is ‘why do we need outside help?' If SMBs can pinpoint these issues, whether it be general inefficiencies, poor client retention, missed deadlines, or poor ROI, they will be able to get more out of a MaaS.  In this masterclass we will walk through the proper questions a company should ask themselves and the proper questions they should ask different MaaS companies as they seek the right partner. We will also walk through a number of case studies showing the results of a successful MaaS strategy in different industries and situations. Finally, we will open up the floor for questions about the MaaS concept and its application to SMBs and Enterprise businesses.Check out upcoming DigiMarCon Digital Marketing, Media, and Advertising Conferences & Exhibitions Worldwide at https://digimarcon.com/events/

Well, we're hopping back in time, or rather warping, with The Rocky Horror Picture Show.  Another cult classic delight from the same glorious mind that brought you, Priscilla, Terry J. Nelson.     The krewe discusses the myriad pitfalls of gender and sexuality, Matthew tries to keep up his good Catholic boy facade, Terry fusses over Jasper, Hannah enlightens the krewe about the origins of the Rainbow Flag, and Garrett just tries to keep the show moving.     There may be some problems with the delivery, but there's a little something for everyone to love in this 1975 banger.  The krewe even kicks around the idea of a Priscilla-RHPS double feature with dress-up.  And while there was a bit of a power struggle over who gets to bring Dr. Frank-N-Furter back to life (what self-respecting actor wouldn't want to try their hand at the inimitable Tim Curry?), there's nothing but glam and love for this film, despite Matthew's protestations.   Damnit, Janet.  Just get into it already.   Show Notes:   This episode contains mentions the following: divorce, sexual assault, transphobia, TERFs, homophobia, consent issues, violence, slut shaming, elder abuse, and child molestation.    Sources: BBC. This two-part series is one of the most scandalous and high-profile cases in Texas true crime history: the mysterious death of world-ranked equestrian and socialite Joan Robinson Hill. She was the daughter of wealthy oilman Ash Robinson and lived in the illustrious neighborhood of River Oaks in Houston. The chain of events leading up to and after Joan's death is incredibly bizarre and would prompt one of the most unpredictable medical investigations and legal proceedings ever before seen in the Lone Star State.Sources:Ewing, B.
