Unlike rules-based teachings prevalent in both modern and ancient texts, Vedic teachings are renowned for not prescribing commandments or rigid “rules.” Instead, Veda offer timeless wisdom through lessons that we can interpret and apply according to our level of consciousness. One of the core Vedic teachings, The Mahabharata, contains a specific set of chapters known as the Bhagavad Gita — the Song of God. Within these chapters lies a profound teaching distilled into just five words that, if fully understood and implemented, have the power to end our suffering. In English, these words are: “Established in Being, perform action.”In this episode, Thom unpacks the meaning and transformative impact of this teaching. He also shares the technique that enables all of us to integrate this wisdom into our daily lives. If you'd like to dive deeper into the Bhagavad Gita, we invite you to take a look at Thom's Exploring the Bhagavad Gita series of courses. These engaging and lively courses examine how the ancient and profound lessons of the Bhagavad Gita can be applied to modern life. You can find out more at https://thomknoles.com/bhagavad-gita/,Episode Highlights[00:45] The God Song[03:34] Mahabharata[05:29] Pandavas and Kauravas[08:12] Krishna's Choice: Army or Advisor/Charioteer?[09:47] Arjuna's Dilemma[13:09] Go Beyond All Relativity, Perform Action[16:29] How to Solve All Problems[19:11] Brahman Saṃsparsash: The Kiss of Totality[22:12] The Universe Having a Human ExperienceUseful Linksinfo@thomknoles.com https://thomknoles.com/https://www.instagram.com/thethomknoleshttps://www.facebook.com/thethomknoleshttps://www.youtube.com/c/thomknoleshttps://thomknoles.com/ask-thom-anything/

Christian Heritage Church in Tallahassee Florida - Pastor Steve Dow - Sermons, Teaching and Inspiration from CHC Today!

The Master key to Releasing Grace This lesson explores the concept of grace in Christianity, emphasizing how a revelation of God's unmerited favor through Jesus Christ leads to obedience. 1. Understanding Grace Key Scripture: John 1:16-17 • Grace Comes Through Jesus (John 1:16-17): The Old Testament Law exposes our need for salvation, but Jesus offers grace and truth, providing not just awareness of sin but also redemption. • The God of Love and Grace (2 Corinthians 13:14): God's grace is complete, encompassing the love of Jesus, God's Fatherly affection, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. • Grace Through Knowledge (2 Peter 1:2): A deeper understanding of God and Jesus increases our experience of grace. 2. The Beauty of God in Creation • God's Majestic Creation (Psalm 8:3): The wonders of the heavens and God's handiwork inspire awe and reverence for His power. Creation's beauty is but a glimpse of Elohim's Awesomeness and Majesty • Personal Reflection on God's Beauty (Psalm 27:3-4): A yearning to dwell in God's presence and behold His beauty signifies a heart captivated by His grace and majesty. 3. Responding to God's Beauty 1. The Beauty of Christ (Song of Solomon 3:6): The imagery of Christ's arrival, fragrant and glorious, evokes believers' worship and wonder. 2. We all have a choice after we all see his beauty. What will you do about it? Do we ignore it and go about our lives? Do we shout, or shed a tear? Or do we live in pursuit of seeing and being consumed by the awesomeness of his beauty and Majesty? Living in Love with God (Song of Solomon 1:4): A relationship with God begins with love and leads to a desire for intimacy with Him, rejoicing in His love. Caring for What God Cares About Just as love for a person leads to an interest in their values, love for Christ compels us to care about what matters to Him What is on our Beloved's Revealed Heart Desire and Will today, this week, and this year? +++++++ You can find our service times on our website: https://allnationstallahassee.com/ You can find sermon highlights on Twitter here: https://mobile.twitter.com/allnationstally

We had Darren Littlejohn on episode 176 two and half years ago to talk about his first book, The 12 Step Buddhist and he's back to talk about his latest work Compassionate Recovery: Mindful Healing for Trauma and Addictions. The importance and need for the work contained in the aforementioned book by my friend Darren cannot be understated. To paraphrase Darren and to attempt to encapsulate his latest work, compassion and mindfulness is in so many ways the direction, it is the journey, it is the result, it is the manifestation, it is the fruition of much of what we're trying to achieve in Recovery. Adverse Childhood Experiences, or ACES, trauma, and addiction cause emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual dysregulation that are very often well outside our window of tolerance. When this occurs, we resort to counterproductive thoughts and behaviors, that turn into patterns, that cause a negative feedback loop of deepening counterproductive behaviors. Addiction then, is on a spectrum and recovery too, is on a spectrum. Because addiction is progressive, so too must be our recovery. We must do the work, by identifying the wounds and applying the medicine so we can heal lest we experience unmanageable restlessness irritability and discontentedness or said another way dysregulation that can threaten emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual wellness and if left to continue to spiral downward can result in the ultimate consequence. The work and the medicine, in this case is self-compassion combined with mindfulness. Accept ourselves, connect with ourselves, be there for ourselves now and all times before this moment. When triggers come up, that threaten to be unmanageable the work is deploying tools and strategies to be there for ourselves with compassion and mindfulness. We can pause and choose to conjure self-compassion and mindfulness. Doing this work changes how we experience and respond to all situations in life in an increasingly manageable way that spirals up and raises our baseline and increasingly enables and strengthens our connection to ourselves, our spirituality and ultimately our connection to others which in a very visceral way is recovery personified. Listen along as Anthony leads us through the Song of Songs. Notes/Quotes: Text: Song Of Songs  Title: Wonder, Wisdom, & Work Reading 3:1-5 - Crystal “Without the Song we would be left with only spare and often negative words about a reality that is crucial to the human experience: love and sex. God in his wisdom has spoken through the poet of the Song to both encourage and warn us about the unquenchable power of love and desire. The Song celebrates the joy of physical touch, the exhilaration of exotic scent, the sweet sound of a lover's voice, and the taste of another's lips. The Song is a divine affirmation of love and an acknowledgement of the pain that often accompanies it.” – Tremper Longman “The woman speaks significantly more than the man does, and her words begin and end the Song. She also uses the pronoun ‘I' and ‘myself', along with the phrases ‘my soul' and ‘my heart', far more frequently than he does: he hardly talks about himself and engages in little of the self-reflection that she does.” - Ian Duguid (Ez. 16:1-22) 4 And as for your birth, on the day you were born your cord was not cut, nor were you washed with water to cleanse you, nor rubbed with salt, nor wrapped in swaddling cloths. 5 No eye pitied you, to do any of these things to you out of compassion for you, but you were cast out on the open field, for you were abhorred, on the day that you were born. 6 “And when I passed by you and saw you wallowing in your blood, I said to you in your blood, ‘Live!' I said to you in your blood, ‘Live!' 7 I made you flourish like a plant of the field. And you grew up and became tall and arrived at full adornment. Your breasts were formed, and your hair had grown; yet you were naked and bare. 8 “When I passed by you again and saw you, behold, you were at the age for love, and I spread the corner of my garment over you and covered your nakedness; I made my vow to you and entered into a covenant with you, declares the Lord God, and you became mine. 9 Then I bathed you with water and washed off your blood from you and anointed you with oil. 10 I clothed you also with embroidered cloth and shod you with fine leather. I wrapped you in fine linen and covered you with silk. 11 And I adorned you with ornaments and put bracelets on your wrists and a chain on your neck. 12 And I put a ring on your nose and earrings in your ears and a beautiful crown on your head. 13 Thus you were adorned with gold and silver, and your clothing was of fine linen and silk and embroidered cloth. You ate fine flour and honey and oil. You grew exceedingly beautiful and advanced to royalty. 14 And your renown went forth among the nations because of your beauty, for it was perfect through the splendor that I had bestowed on you, declares the Lord God. 15 “But you trusted in your beauty and played the whore[b] because of your renown and lavished your whorings on any passerby; your beauty became his. 16 You took some of your garments and made for yourself colorful shrines, and on them played the whore. The like has never been, nor ever shall be.17 You also took your beautiful jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given you, and made for yourself images of men, and with them played the whore. 18 And you took your embroidered garments to cover them, and set my oil and my incense before them. 19 Also my bread that I gave you—I fed you with fine flour and oil and honey—you set before them for a pleasing aroma; and so it was, declares the Lord God. 20 And you took your sons and your daughters, whom you had borne to me, and these you sacrificed to them to be devoured. Were your whorings so small a matter 21 that you slaughtered my children and delivered them up as an offering by fire to them? 22 And in all your abominations and your whorings you did not remember the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare, wallowing in your blood. (Ez. 16:30-34) 30 “How sick is your heart, declares the Lord God, because you did all these things, the deeds of a brazen prostitute, 31 building your vaulted chamber at the head of every street, and making your lofty place in every square. Yet you were not like a prostitute, because you scorned payment. 32 Adulterous wife, who receives strangers instead of her husband! 33 Men give gifts to all prostitutes, but you gave your gifts to all your lovers, bribing them to come to you from every side with your whorings. 34 So you were different from other women in your whorings. No one solicited you to play the whore, and you gave payment, while no payment was given to you; therefore you were different. "the couple are not called husband and wife, but the centrepiece of the book is a wedding scene that concludes with the consummation of their relationship (3:6 – 5:2). It is in this poem that the man calls the woman ‘bride' (kallâ) for the first time. The word occurs no fewer than six times in this poem (4:8, 9, 10, 11, 12; 5:1) and nowhere else in the Song, emphatically connecting the sexual experience described here with the appropriate legal status that goes with it.” - Ian Duguid  “The direct echo of Genesis 3:16 reveals a redemptive reversal of desire through use of the rare Hebrew word “desire” (Heb. teshuˆ qaˆh). In Genesis, Eve's desire for Adam indicates a tension and imbalance of power between the created beings, “your desire shall be for your husband and he shall rule over you” (Genesis 3:16). In the Song, this same word is used of the man toward the woman to communicate a profound mutuality and shared desire: “I am my beloved's and his desire is for me” (Song of Songs 7:10). Mutuality in terms of male and female relationships was God's intention all along.” - Katlyn Richards “To miss that connection between human and divine love, which allegorical interpretation makes instinctively, even if sometimes inappropriately, is to miss something profound and important. The awesome power and unique nature of human love within marriage is precisely what makes it such a perfect analogy for the relationship between the bride of Christ and her husband, or between the individual believer and God. The original human one-flesh intimacy in the garden was never simply about Adam and Eve enjoying each other's company. It was intended to reflect an image of the nature of God himself in his intertrinitarian relations – two distinct and different people who become one flesh, conjoined forever. This same intimacy will ultimately be extended to the bride of Christ by her Saviour; as a result, application to the relationship of Christ and the church flows naturally from the Song of Songs, in a metaphor designed by God himself (Eph. 5:22–33). Of course, the metaphor of bride and bridegroom is an analogy, as are all metaphors. This frees the interpreter from trying to find forced spiritual significance in every poetic detail of the text. But the metaphor is a rich and profound mystery that will repay much pondering.” —Ian Duguid

What it's All About:Well, you heard about the Triple Goddess, but have you heard about the Triple God? Because we live in a patriarchal society, we pagans emphasize more on the goddess than the god. So, I will balance things out on this show and talk about what it means for our spiritual lives when there is a male deity involved as well - because that's just how it goes sometimes! The spirit guide of the Week is Brahma and the dream symbol is fire.Songs Featured:1. Golden Apple by Faun2. I Am the God/dess Devine by Lucidian3. The God Song by Reclaiming Featuring Starhawk4. Meet me in my choir room.   Before the wide use of modern musical instruments, the earliest Christians in my community used drums, shakers, rattlers, tam-tam, and other local musical instruments in singing praise and worship of God. It was a beautiful experience I would always like to emulate. You would surely enjoy this splendid idea with me as you enter my choir room. Enjoy yourself!  We are Fellow Workers with God 1. For we are partners working altogether for God and we are all in God's field. For we are only builders of God's house, using the gifts that he gave us free. Chorus: We are fellow workers with God, We are fellow workers with God, We are fellow workers with God, We are fellow workers with our God.   2. Will you build the house of God in gold? Will you ... What an astonishing story! In just a few short verses, Scripture introduces us to a baby born at one of the worst times in history, in some of the worst conditions imaginable. The king's edict has gone out that all newborns like him are to be put to death immediately after they are born. In an act of defiance, the two Hebrew midwives honor God over the king. The baby is hidden in a basket in the bushes by the river, found by an Egyptian princess, returned to be nursed again by his own mother, then adopted into Pharaoh's household and raised and educated in the palace as an Egyptian prince! This one whose life was supposed to have been snuffed out, was loved and cherished by the very one who had willed his demise! Moses heard the song.

Abraham was born approximately 2100 years before the angel-heralded, midnight manger birth in Bethlehem, so when Joseph and Mary's firstborn revealed this startling truth to some Jewish leaders: “I have existed long before Abraham was born, for I AM!” (John 8:58 TPT), John tells us the immediate, violent reaction was to put Jesus to death by stoning, for blasphemy (they failed to bring him down, that time). Jesus cited the beloved Patriarch partly because of the Jews' veneration of their ancestors, their lineage, their vital connection to genealogy, their heritage, but mostly to encourage them to reach for God's metastory, the big picture. Abram, as he was first named, was the son of Terah, an idolater, living in distant Mesopotamia. He was catapulted into God's mission, the scope of which stretched past all known boundaries and required a dizzying, near-insane degree of trusting, loving submission to this God who was calling him. I'm convinced he obeyed because he was able to hear it - The Song.

Call to Worship: Psalm 97InvocationSong of Praise: “Psalm 99”Corporate Confession of Sin: Holy Father, forgive us. Though you should guide us, we inform ourselves. Though you should rule us, we control ourselves. Though you should fulfill us, we console ourselves. For we think your truth too high, your will too hard, your power to remote, your love too free. But they are not! And without them, we are of all people most miserable. Heal our confused mind with your word, heal our divided will with your law, heal our troubled conscience with your love, heal our anxious hearts with your presence, all for the sake of your Son, who loved us and gave himself for us. Sid James and a Japanese Ghost Walk into a Bar On this week's mammoth slate of movies, Off the Shelf includes the overlooked Robert Altman feature "3 Women", Raymond Bernard's staggeringly authentic adaptation of "Les Miserables", and a genre twofer - "Maggie" starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and proof of the resurgent Korean New Wave in "The Chaser". In lieu of our usual Film of the Week, we also cover the beautiful "Song of the Sea", Abel Ferrara's "Pasolini", Robert Carlyle's directorial debut "The Legend of Barney Thomson" and the almost-indescribable "Hard to be a God" - four smaller-scale features that deserve a more recognition.
