Säger Rutger Bregman i sitt reportage. Chip Frederick arbetade tolv timmar per dygn, sju dagar i veckan under extremt stressande förhållanden.

What's so funny about Larry Goldings?  He has been such a major musical force for so long, it's hard to remember a time when he was not around. He's one of the most accomplished, respected and admired hammond organ players alive and much of his career has been devoted to that instrument.  The trio he formed in the early 90s with guitarist Peter Bernstein and Bill Stewart has been one of the pillars of his musical life for over 30 years, and the three have remained United for decades. Their most recent record, Perpetual Pendulum, was released earlier this year. The recording session for the album marked the 30th anniversary of the release of their first record together - the 1991 album The Intimacy of the Blues. Larry eventually moved to the West Coast and carved out a reputation as not only a jazz musician but also a highly sensitive session player, sideman, collaborator, songwriter, and film composer.  Goldings is also no stranger to social media: For years he has posted clips of himself - not only musical, but also what you might describe as schtick or comedy. His alter ego, Hans Groiner, for example, claims to be an Austrian accordion player, pianist, educator and Thelonious Monk specialist who has  improved Monk's music by making it "more relaxing, and less offensive to the ear." In recent years he's also become a regular fixture with Scary Pockets, the LA based YouTube famous funk collective. Larry Goldings and Scary Pockets even have their own side project called Scary Goldings, they've recorded a bunch of albums and videos together, and over time have brought in Larry's longtime friend John Scofield to join them, as well as other viral superstars like MonoNeon and Louis Cole.  In this conversation, originally recorded in 2016, Larry talks about his early development and influences, his ongoing relationship with Peter Bernstein and Bill Stewart, working with John Scofield, James Taylor, Maceo Parker, Jon Hendricks, the New York - LA thing, his approach to accompaniment, organ playing and telling jokes on the bandstand.  www.third-story.comwww.patreon.com/thirdstorypodcast https://www.wbgo.org/podcast/the-third-story Music in this episode:  John Scofield “Do Like Eddie”Goldings, Bernstein, Stewart “United”James Taylor “School Song”Johnny Bowtie Barstow “First Noel” Hans Groiner - YoutubeLarry Goldings “Ivermectin”Scary Goldings “Larry Pockets”Jon Hendricks “Freddie Freeloader”Christopher Hollyday “No Second Quarter”Larry Goldings Trio “The Intimacy of The Blues”Jaco Pastorious “Word Of Mouth”Dave McKenna “C Jam Blues”Jimmy Smith and Wes Montgomery “James and Wes”Peter Bernstein (feat. Säger Rutger Bregman i sitt reportage. Chip Frederick arbetade tolv timmar per dygn, sju dagar i veckan under extremt stressande förhållanden. The Oral History Project episode today is a conversation between Winston and Tyjae, both men of colour who have spent time in the care system.   Winston was placed in care with Barnardo’s at the age of three, after his father, a soldier who had been stationed in the UK during WW2, returned to the US. He grew up in foster care and spent his teenage years in William Baker Technical School, known as Goldings, a residential school run by Barnardo's in Hertfordshire. The school is known, among many things, for providing all the Wimbledon ball boys between 1946 to 1966. Winston was one of them.  He’s talking to Tyjae, a young man from London, who attends our Youthbuild Academy in Lewisham. He, too, spent time in care in his early years. In this conversation, they each share their experiences of racism, Winston explains his involvement in his local Black Lives Matter protests and the hope he feels seeing young people’s interest in politics and social justice, and Tyjae, who is an aspiring musician, gets to play Winston some of his music.  The purpose of this type of conversation is to give 2 people, one older and one younger, the chance to compare and contrast a shared life experience. They get to swap some of the wisdom and knowledge they’ve gained on their respective journey’s, and we get to learn something too. Disclaimer: In an effort to keep the authentic voice of the guests, this episode contains language that may be considered offensive to some listeners.

I'm sure there's not a beer drinker out there who hasn't experienced the delightful tingle of a cask conditioned pint tingling on the tongue with zety notes, a thick creamy head; the unique taste pulled together from the Knowle Spring well; Simpson's Golden Promise malt; zesty and grassy notes from Fuggles and Goldings hops; and the a yeast strain that compliments all these flavours with a bready, nutty taste of its own. First introduced in 1952, the beer has gone on to be Champion Beer of Britain and Brewing Industry International Award winners over 25 times, and that’s just between the 1980’s to date. What makes Landlord so prestigious is their attention to detail and quality assurance; not just in the brewhouse but running throughout the entire business and brand. To find out more about one of Britain's most loved and respected family brewers, we sat down with Chief Executive Tim Dewey and Head Brewer Andy Leman to chat about the history of the brewery and Landlord, what makes their brewery process and beers unique, where they see British pubs and cask beer heading over the coming years, and some of the challenges that a brewer such as Timothy Taylor’s face in today’s market. --- Today’s episode of the Hop Forward podcast has been brought to you by Simpsons Malt, the UK’s independent Home of Good Malt. Founded in 1862, Simpsons Malt is a fifth-generation family-owned business which has a passion for making malts with taste, flavour and consistently high quality with the world’s best brewers and distillers in mind, helping them to craft the finest beers and whiskies. This is where various people got together to create amazing ideas that use a mixture of arts and technology which lead to a showcase – where members of the public could come and see the presentation of the ideas the teams came up with.“New Zealand’s arts, science and tech sectors come together to transform classical performing arts for the 21st century.”After an epic week traveling around the North Island our weary travellers made it back to Wellington to Goldings Free Dive for the wrap up of the week. The script was flipped however when the crowd at Goldings started asking our heros the questions this time. Some amazing stories (including whats going to happen to Farming in NZ and the future of food!). We also ponder the big question “Who’s your Rossie?”Thanks to all that come along and we hope you had a great time.------------------------------------------------------We share New Zealand tech, social media, startup people's stories.
