This script provides a comprehensive exploration into regenerative agriculture, the historical and present-day challenges of farming practices, and their broader implications on climate and environmental sustainability. Hosted by Red Hills Rancher, discussions include insights from Dale Strickler, an expert in agriculture, diving into topics such as soil health, crop subsidies, and land management. It critically examines the impact of agricultural policies like subsidies and insurance on farming diversity and practices, and the ecological consequences of 'death farming'. Furthermore, the script covers the potential of regenerative techniques and diversified livestock systems, like incorporating goats to combat invasive species, and how these practices contribute to making farms drought-resilient and restoring soil health. Insights on government initiatives like the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) and the transition challenges from CRP lands back to crop farming are also discussed. Additionally, the script touches on the partnership with LandTrust and the inception of LandTrust Plus for enhancing recreational access to lands, alongside the implications of recreational activities on these environments. HeavyFinance incentivizes farmers to adopt climate-friendly practices by providing financial support for the transition from conventional to regenerative farming.  Founder Laimonas Noreika, with a background in FinTech, was inspired to start the company after learning about the financial challenges faced by farmers, he said in an interview on sidelines of TechChill conference in Riga. HeavyFinance has evolved from a lending business to a climate-focused enterprise, leveraging a business model based on Verra standards to issue carbon credits to farmers who sequester CO2. They are now active in six European markets and are launching an Article 9 fund to further support regenerative farming practices.  The company aims to create a financial ecosystem tailored for farmers, offering products like green loans to facilitate the switch to sustainable farming, with the ultimate goal of scaling up to meet the significant financial needs of small and medium farms across Europe. The company is working on unlocking institutional capital and launching a securitization deal, with plans to expand its support and educational efforts in 2024. Learn more about your ad choices. Today we're heading to rural Dixon, Iowa to meet Lauren Schroeder and her mom Katie on their family farm, and Lauren's FFA advisor and ag teacher, Jenna Kingsley.  Lauren is a junior at Calamus-Wheatland High School. She shows sheep and rabbits at county fairs, plays softball and volleyball, she's the junior class president, and somehow, Lauren, who is a three-time National FFA grant recipient and a My Impact Challenge Special Award winner, has found time to grow more than $15,300 in retail value of fruits and vegetables over the past two years and donate them to local nonprofits.  Having already donated more than 7,000 pounds from her bounty of 25 different crops, Lauren will triple her impact when she meets her goal of expanding to two acres and growing and donating a total of 20,000 pounds of fresh produce to at least 10 organizations by the end of her community service project in the summer 2025. We have a lot to talk about like where in the world Lauren came up with this idea, how many green beans she's donated and how she likes to cook them at home, why she's watering it all by hand with watering cans, how Jenna sees Lauren's project inspiring others, and what impact her generous bounties have had on communities.  Her mom, Katie shares her recipe for homemade spaghetti sauce, how Lauren gives with the goodness of her heart, and, a heartwarming story about the time she saw firsthand how the fresh produce affected a mom and her children at a domestic violence shelter. Pascale  --------------------- FULL TRANSCRIPT --------------------- Hello, beautiful souls!  A warm welcome to Week 3 of The Gratitude Experiment.  Thank you for joining episode 317 of The Everyday Life Balance Show. I'm your host Pascale Gibon.    To all our American listeners, Happy Thanksgiving week! May this holiday be a joyful time with your loved ones and friends.    It is easy to lose sight of gratitude when hope seems distant, but I urge you to reconsider its power.   Let us draw inspiration from an excerpt about human nature and hope from Nelson Mandela's biography.  Despite the harsh reality of his imprisonment, Nelson Mandela saw hope and humanity. He believed in the inherent mercy and generosity in every human heart, a belief that sustained him even in the darkest times.    Here is the extract:    “I always knew that deep down in every human heart, there was mercy and generosity. No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than the opposite. Even in the grimmest times in prison, when my comrades and I were pushed to our limits, I would see a glimmer of humanity in one of the guards, perhaps just for a second, but it was enough to reassure me and keep me going. Men's goodness is a flame that can be hidden but never extinguished.”   Nelson Mandela's resilient heart is a testament to choosing hope and gratitude in the face of adversity.  Imagine how different his experience might have been if he had succumbed to hatred or resentment. His ability to see the light, even in the grimmest circumstances, is a powerful lesson in gratitude.   Gratitude is your glimmer of hope and your heartfelt expression of appreciation.    As we reflect on Mandela's wisdom, this week, let us embrace the magic of reinvention and creation.  Albert Einstein famously said: “Imagination is more powerful than knowledge.” Each day brings the opportunity to reshape our lives through our creative power.     As you gather with family and friends for Thanksgiving, share a moment of love by seeing the light in each other.    I invite you to engage in a meaningful practice: count your blessings from a place of gratitude.  Ask yourself, what blessings have enriched your life?  Then reflect on how acknowledging these blessings makes you feel.  As you build the habit of daily gratitude you grow a loving heart.    Henry Ward Beecher beautifully said:    “Gratitude is the fairest blossom which springs from the soul”    In our first week, we explored remembering the love we have received. Often, we overlook all the love given to us, but gratitude helps us acknowledge and cherish it. Think about the times you have felt grateful and how it uplifted your mood.    You are the architect of your life.  Your perceptions shape your reality.  The Gratitude Experiment is here to guide you towards focusing on abundance and the positive aspects of your life.   I encourage you, for this week's gratitude challenge, to count your blessings.  Share your stories and progress on my Facebook fan page or our private community on Facebook Awaken Your Authentic Self Community.    Join me next Monday as we continue to enhance our happiness through gratitude. Remember, when you say yes! to love, you say yes! to life.    I wish you a fantastic week filled with gratitude, care, abundant love and light.

This Holiday Season with so much uncertainty around we bring to you again an episode of hope and giving. Please donate generously to this non-profit The Farmlink Project started by Aidan Reilly and James Kanoff - winners of 2021 Congressional Medal of Honor Service Award.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Farmlink Project was started at the height of the pandemic in April 2020 to fight food insecurity by repurposing surplus produce. Back home in Los Angeles at the start of the pandemic, with nothing but time on their hands, Aidan Reilly and James Kanoff were like many of us disturbed by the long lines at the food pantries alongside farmers throwing away their produce, eggs, milk ... and their harvest. The boon of an efficient supply chain in the food industry can be a major problem with any slight disruption. The Farmlink Project, a non-profit run by 200 plus volunteers, operates in 48 US states and Mexico bringing the excess produce of farmers to food banks. They are the recipient of the 2021 Congressional Medal of Honor - Citizen Honors Award - awarded to outstanding Americans who have gone above and beyond to perform extraordinary acts of courage or service. Meet James Kanoff, Ben Collier, Will Collier and Aidan Reilly. Learn how they created The Farmlink Project to combat hunger and heal the planet by linking farmers to food banks. The nonprofit, grassroots organization run by 250 volunteers, was just awarded the 2021 Congressional Medal of Honor Service Award. Due to the effects of COVID-19, over 54 million people were experiencing food insecurity. At the same time, the four founders read an article in the New York Times and learned that fresh food was going to waste on farms and food banks were running on empty, so they decided to do something about it. The Farmlink Project connects farms that have a surplus of fresh, nutritious produce to communities in need with the added bonus of decreasing greenhouse gas emissions! Hear how they are addressing challenges of food waste, food insecurity and the environment--incredibly inspiring. As seen on Today Show, CNBC, Washington Post and more.

A CWCIT interview with Fr. Joseph Fitzgerald, CM, a Vincentian priest who has served in Panama since 2005, shortly after being ordained. In 2007, he began serving at the Vincentian mission in Soloy, traveling to 50+ villages throughout the mountains, often on foot or horseback, to work with and minister to the Ngäbe people, who are Panama's largest indigenous group and among the poorest. In addition to sacramental ministry and agricultural and artisan projects, a significant part of the Vincentians' ministry has been accompanying them in their struggle to maintain their cultural identity and values, as well as their lands, which have been increasingly threatened by mega-projects such as open-pit mineral mines and dams. Fr. Fitzgerald holds an MA in global development and social justice (St. John's University, New York) and a PhD in theology (Pontifical Bolivarian University, Bogotá). Since 2016, he has served as executive secretary of the National Coordination of Indigenous Ministry (CONAPI) of the Panamanian Bishops' Conference. And in 2019, he published a book in Spanish, "Danza en la casa de Ngöbo: Resiliencia de la 'Vida Plena' Ngäbe frente al neoliberalismo" (To Dance in Ngöbo's [God's] House: The Resilience of the Ngäbe 'Full Life' in the Face of Neoliberalism).

The challenging farm economy can bring uncertainty, stress, and anxiety. This can lead to negative effects on health --, particularly mental health. While often seen as taboo, having help and support for people experiencing mental health struggles is critical. Advocating for farmers and supporting them is part of the Land O’Lakes, Inc. DNA. This is an episode for farmers and anyone who might want to seek help or know someone they want to help. Land O’Lakes hosted events in rural communities called Harvesting Hope – which helped educate farmers about the signs of stress and where to seek help if needed. We're continuing work to make the necessary connections to help farmers and their families through difficult times.
