Do you unconsciously and repeatedly recall the same hurtful memory and can't let it go? Holding onto emotional baggage weighs us down and prevents us from living fully. But what if I told you we find true freedom in letting go? Imagine walking lighter, breathing smoothly, and feeling at peace simply by letting go. Thank you for tuning in to episode 383 of The Everyday Life Balance Show, a podcast dedicated to helping you achieve emotional freedom and balance in your everyday life. In today's episode, we'll explore releasing what no longer serves you, from painful memories to daily stress. You'll learn practical steps to free yourself emotionally, embrace peace, and create space for more joy in your life. Let's begin this journey together. Here is the truth: most of us feel stressed out because we struggle to let go. We often struggle with old habits that keep us prisoners in the same old story. However, how do you set yourself free? Let Go Of The Hurtful Memories Of The Past. Prisoners of the past hold on to what happened yesterday and fail to be present with NOW. Do you have an unpleasant memory you find difficult to let go of? It's time to shake it off, to feel the weight lift off your shoulders as you release these burdens because they no longer serve you. Holding on to unpleasant past memories stops you from living fully because it interferes with your emotional freedom or well-being and makes you a prisoner of the past. If this resonates with you, take a moment to reflect on the following: How does the unpleasant memory of the past affect your life now? Being a prisoner of the past can be a destructive experience that creates suffering. It's time to set yourself free! I recommend seeking professional help or a self-help solution like Dr Harry Barry's Emotional Healing process. I followed his process in the past; it's been life-changing. You can listen to my emotional healing experience in episode 380, entitled "Heal Your Heart: Finding Emotional Freedom Through Love.” Emotions are stored in the body; therefore, physical movement can be a powerful way to release tension and stress. Shake It Off Physically Too many people hold on to physical tension for too long. Here are some ways to help yourself and let go of the tension: Exercising will help you re-energise and shake off the stress of the day. For example, if you had a stressful day at work, physical exercise helps you change your state from exhaustion to mental and physical upliftment due to the release of feel-good hormones when you exercise. To let go of any mental and physical tension, make it a habit to boost your happy hormones with regular activity. By the way, it doesn't have to be strenuous because gentle stretches are highly effective. I stretch all the time. Smelling the roses is another way to let go. For example, a nice, meditative walk in nature surrounded by wildlife, trees, and flowers can help you let go of worries. As you stroll in nature or cycle, fill your lungs consciously with oxygen and slowly release carbon dioxide. Enjoy this peaceful moment as if you have no worries in the world. Allow yourself to let go. Dancing with your favourite music or singing in the bathroom is a great way to shake it all off as you allow your free spirit to express itself. When we hold onto pain, our body stores it as tension, affecting our nervous system. Exercise, whether it's walking, stretching, or dancing, helps shift stuck energy, allowing us to move forward emotionally and physically. Let Go Of Worry Learning to let go is a new habit you need to develop to invite more lightness into your life. This leads me to the subject of worry. Concerns or worries are disrupters of peace. Dale Carnegie affirms in his book "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living" that 70% of our worries are money problems. What about you? Worrying is one of the hardest things to let go of because it feels productive. But the truth is, worry doesn't solve problems; it only drains our energy and keeps us stuck in fear. Instead of letting worry control your thoughts, try this three-step method to regain peace of mind: 1. Identify your most significant worry, your 70%. Take a moment to clearly define what is causing stress. Write it down if needed. Often, when we name our worries, they feel less overwhelming. Worry can be caused by health issues, finances, children, and relationships at home and work. 2. Ask yourself: Can I control this? If the answer is yes, shift your focus to taking action. What steps can you take to improve the situation? If the answer is no, practise acceptance and consciously release it. Remind yourself that worrying won't change the outcome. 3. Replace worry with action or surrender: If the situation is within your control, take small, constructive steps to address it. If it's outside your control, use deep breathing, meditation or journaling to release the fear and shift into trust. By practising these steps, you train your mind to let go of unnecessary worry and focus on what truly matters. And lastly, let's talk about relationship worry. Improve your relationships As an advocate of the power of love, let go of wanting to be right all the time. It's ok to make mistakes. If you have a troubling relationship and the E.G.O (Edging God Out) gets in the way, lovingly solving the problem would mean seeking first to understand and then to be understood. There might be a misunderstanding you might not be aware of. Seeking first to understand opens our hearts and helps us see the situation more lovingly and with a new perspective. Miscommunication is a common ailment in relationships and leads to conflicts. If this relates to you, first seek to understand the person you are in conflict with compassionately. By the way, you might be thinking, why should I? However, give it a try. What happens in your mind and body when you do? Do you feel lighter or less angry or resentful? The process of seeking first to understand, then to be understood, taken from Stephen Covey's book "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People," which sold millions of copies, is a powerful way to view situations openly and let go of negative emotions. Today's episode is an invitation to develop a new habit: letting go. As you release, you let go of the unpleasantness, open up your heart again, and free yourself mentally and physically. In this episode of The Everyday Life Balance Show, I share how Love became my greatest healer and how it can become yours, too. Indeed, Love is a healing force and here is my story. “It's the first time I share this story with you. In my mid-twenties, the split between days of happiness and immense dissatisfaction was debilitating. In other words, I was on an emotional roller-coaster ride. I remember journaling a lot when I was a teenager. It was a great healing process. However, there was still a relationship I needed to heal—my relationship with my dad. My parents got divorced when I was three, and my dad's absence throughout my life meant that I felt rejected and struggled with self-acceptance. During my emotional roller-coaster in my mid-twenties, I realised something had to change. I needed to heal this sense of dissatisfaction and feel more stable emotionally. That's when I found Dr. Harry Barry, a renowned author and medic, and his powerful book: "Emotional Healing – How To Put Yourself Together Back Again," which is based on his years of research and experience in the field of emotional healing, and it transformed my life.” Here is what his book did for me: · I released any negative emotions that were sabotaging my wellbeing. · The most significant shift from pain to healing was when I did one of Dr Barry's processes and discovered the thoughts and memories in my subconscious that held me back. · I experienced the greatest emotional freedom. I had the most incredible revelation after Dr Harry Barry's healing process. This revelation did not happen immediately but months after undergoing some introspection. I realised that the hurt I felt had a purpose: to open my heart and grow in Love. As a result, I opened my heart and forgave my dad. I shifted from a place of anger and resentment to one of Love and gratitude. Indeed, I was grateful to my dad for giving me life, and his absence served the most positive purpose to grow in Love. Where would I be if I had not decided to heal my emotions? I would have contracted my heart from Love instead of opening it to more abundance and grace. Love is more than just a feeling; it's a choice we make every day. If you're wondering how to begin using Love as a healing tool, here are some simple steps to guide you: 1. Acknowledge the hurt or discomfort 2. Seek first to understand by understanding the other person's perspective 3. Choose to release the pain, even if it's hard. Healing might take time. 4. Practise gratitude for the lessons learnt. 5. Surround yourself with positive affirmations about Love and healing. Should you find yourself where I was and ready to heal the past hurt and emotions, it matters to do it with this outcome in mind: emotional freedom. Emotional freedom means being mindful of the present moment, waking up without the weight of past hurt, responding to life with peace rather than pain, and embracing every moment with an open heart. However, emotional freedom through expanding Love is even more powerful. It is the ability to feel all emotions without being controlled by them. It means acknowledging pain, fear, or anger without letting them dictate your actions or mood. You will overcome whatever shakes your emotional stability because you have built spiritual strength through your healing journey. Emotional freedom feels like being peaceful or choosing peace always over emotional turmoil. Let's do this heart-opening exercise together: Close your eyes lightly. Place your hand gently on your heart, and take a deep breath. As you inhale deeply, imagine Love filling your heart. As you exhale slowly, release any pain or resentment. You can say it out loud: I release any pain or resentment. Repeat this until your heart feels lighter. May this episode inspire you to embark on a healing journey. Are you ready to grow and be free? If so: Choose freedom over fear. Choose Love over life-long resentment. Choose wellbeing over dis-ease. Everybody naturally seeks happiness. However, let me share a secret of paramount importance: the more we embody Love as our guiding light and power, the happier we become. Let's begin. Setting Your Intentions An intention is a clear goal, purpose or idea you commit to carrying out. When you intend to create meaningful change, it's essential to approach your life with intentionality. For personal expansion, breaking free from limiting beliefs means committing 100% to stepping into your power. Take a moment to reflect: If you could wave a magic wand, what limiting belief would you let go of to make your dreams come true? What is one intention you can set today to help you move closer to personal freedom? Pause the episode if you need more time to reflect, and return when you're ready to continue. Intentions are powerful because they align your thoughts and actions toward a desired outcome. But before you can fully embrace them, it's crucial to identify the beliefs that may be holding you back. Where Do You Hold Yourself Back? What is a belief? It's the acceptance that something exists or is true. The etymology of belief is to have trust. However, our limiting beliefs keep us from thriving authentically. Henry Ford famously said, « Whether you believe you can or you can't, you are right. What you believe about yourself often stems from past experiences or societal conditioning, but they don't have to define your future. Let's take a closer look at areas where limiting beliefs may be affecting different areas of your life: 1. Finances: Do you believe there's a limit to how much you can earn or achieve financially? 2. Career: Are you holding yourself back from pursuing your dream job or career that aligns with your passion? Take a moment to journal your thoughts if it's safe to do so: What's one area in your life where your beliefs limit you? How would your life change if you replaced that belief with one that empowers you? Reflecting on these questions is the first step toward shifting your mindset. Champions remind us that there's always a next level of growth when we dare to exceed our expectations and believe it's possible. So, ask yourself: · What's your next level of growth? If you could wave that magic wand again, what would you accomplish after empowering your beliefs and tapping into your inner strength? Let's do a quick exercise: Close your eyes and visualize your next level of growth. Imagine yourself achieving a goal you once thought was impossible. What does it feel like? Capture this feeling in a journal entry or share it in the community with the hashtag #EverydayFreedom. Moving from doubt to faith is a necessary transition. By planting this idea long enough within your heart, you nurture emotionally the confidence and courage you need to grow and become unstoppable. We must first change our perspective of what's possible to step into this new reality. Freedom Lies in Perspective True freedom begins when you expand your perspective and believe in possibility. As Walt Disney said: “There are few heights that can't be scaled by someone who knows the secret of making dreams come true. This special secret can be summarized in four C's: they are Curiosity, Confidence, Courage and Constancy, and the greatest of these is confidence. When you believe in a thing, believe it all the way. Have confidence in your ability to do it right. And work hard to do the best possible job.” We build confidence through consistent action. Think about learning a new skill, like riding a bicycle. It might feel impossible at first, but with patience and practice, you find your balance and master the skill. Breaking free from limiting beliefs works the same way: one step, one action, one empowering thought at a time. Let's put this idea into practice. Take action today! Identify one small step you can take this week to build confidence in an area where you've felt stuck. Write it down, commit to it, and celebrate your progress. For me, 2024 revealed something significant: I thrive best within a clear and intentional structure. Without it, I find my energy scattering in too many directions. Following a clear structure was a powerful realization that reinforced how much I value creating order and flow in my life. What about you? What has 2024 revealed to you about how you operate at your best? Your Breakthroughs Now, let's look at your personal growth. What has been your most significant breakthrough this year? What lessons have deepened your self-awareness and helped you grow into the person you are today? These breakthroughs are the milestones of your inner journey. Incompletes: What Needs Carrying Over? It's also valuable to ask ourselves: Do you have any incompletes? These are the tasks, projects, or goals you started but didn't finish. Life gets busy, and not everything unfolds the way we hope. But that's okay. The question now is, which of these incompletes still feel meaningful and worthy of carrying forward into 2025? And which ones can we lovingly release, knowing they no longer serve us? Remember, a new year is a beautiful opportunity for reinvention. Let's choose what we carry forward with care and intention, ensuring it aligns with the person we're becoming. Reflecting on Your 2024 Achievements Next, let's review your year through the lens of achievement. Have you reached the goals you set at the start of 2024? Or perhaps, like me, you've made progress but haven't entirely checked everything off your list. That's perfectly okay, too. The most significant gift of this year for me, in terms of achievement, has been gaining greater clarity about my next steps. Even if I haven't achieved every goal, I've stayed committed to the path. And that, beautiful soul, is what truly matters. Success is not about perfection but the progressive realization of a worthy goal. And if you've stayed the course, even when others might have given up, you've already achieved something extraordinary. Dreaming Boldly For 2025 Now, let's turn our hearts and minds to the future. What are your dreams for 2025? I encourage you to dream boldly and without limits. Set aside any fears, doubts, or lack of confidence. Imagine, just for a moment, that you have all the power you need to make your dreams come true. What does your greatest dream for 2025 look like? The Power of Gratitude and Hope Gratitude reminds us of our connection to love, even in challenging times. To reflect on this, let's draw inspiration from the life of Nelson Mandela. In his autobiography, Mandela shared a profound truth about humanity and hope that sustained him through the harsh reality of imprisonment. He chose to believe in the inherent goodness in every heart, even in the darkest moments. Here is an excerpt that captures this beautifully: "I always knew that deep down in every human heart, there was mercy and generosity. No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than the opposite. Even in the grimmest times in prison, when my comrades and I were pushed to our limits, I would see a glimmer of humanity in one of the guards, perhaps just for a second, but it was enough to reassure me and keep me going. Take a moment to share love and appreciation for one another. Here is a fun idea: Create a "Gratitude Jar" for Thanksgiving. Have everyone write down the person they are most grateful for this year, then read the notes together. It's a beautiful way to connect and celebrate the blessings of your relationships. The Gratitude Practice This Week This week, I invite you to focus on harvesting Hope by counting your blessings. Here is this week's reflection exercise: Ask yourself: What blessings have enriched your life? Reflect: How does acknowledging these blessings make you feel? Write down your thoughts daily. As you build this habit, notice how gratitude softens and opens your heart. Gratitude doesn't just shift your perspective; it nurtures your soul. Our first step in week 1 was to practise gratitude daily to activate genuine happiness in our lives. You may find this practice challenging amidst the busyness of daily life. However, trust me, when you follow it through, it will become a common practice. Since gratitude is a practice that fills us with joy, this week, we'll delve deeper into its beautiful and intricate ways of connecting us with the people in our lives. Gratitude is a gift we can give to others and also a gift we can give to ourselves. This week, we'll reflect on two powerful questions that will help us experience gratitude in a whole new light. Your first reflection is: who are you most grateful for this year? Naturally, you will start with the individuals who have brought light and kindness into your life and shown you loving support and appreciation. They uplift us, see the best in us and inspire us to stay positive and keep moving forward. Think of them, and fill your heart with gratitude for their presence. Whilst this first reflection matters, let's take our gratitude practice deeper, shall we? The second reflection is: who are you most grateful for that has challenged you profoundly? Here is where the true transformation begins. Think about the people who have pushed your red button, tested you or caused discomfort this year. They may be individuals with whom you've experienced tension, disagreement, or even conflict. It's easy to feel gratitude for those who bring ease into our lives, but challenges often teach us the most profound lessons. These are the people who have helped you grow. They may have tested your patience, stirred your emotions, or made you question yourself, but in doing so, they became your best teachers. They showed you what you needed to hear, where you needed to grow, and how you could love more deeply. Take a moment to imagine one of these challenging relationships. Perhaps it's someone you disagreed with, someone who didn't meet your expectations or even someone whose presence unsettled you. Reflect on how these experiences helped you grow. Now, picture turning those emotionally intense moments into love by fostering understanding. When we stop seeking to be understood and instead choose to understand, we unlock the healing power of compassion. Let me repeat this sentence. When we stop seeking to be understood and instead choose to understand, we unlock the healing power of compassion. Forgiveness begins to take root. In its essence, forgiveness is about “giving love forward.” This transformation from frustration to clarity, peace and love allows us to release anger, disappointment, and resentment. Gratitude for these relationships becomes a way of saying: “Thank you for helping me grow in love.” By choosing to be grateful for the growth spurred by conflict, you release the hold of negative emotions and begin to see the world with newfound clarity. Only in Love can you see clearly. The next step is expressing your gratitude. As William Arthur Ward said: “Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.” Take time this week to reach out to those who matter most to you. Let them know how much they mean to you, whether it's a parent, a friend, a mentor or someone who played a pivotal role in your growth this year. Remember to include the individuals who have challenged you, when you compile your gratitude list. Thank them for the lessons, wisdom, and opportunity to grow in the energy of love. When we pause and take notice, we start to see that happiness is not a destination, but it's present with us, waiting for us to notice it in tiny, precious moments. I'm excited to embark on our seven weeks of gratitude journey with you. I invite you to play full-on and have a fun experience. Before we start, ground yourself and take seven deep breaths in and out. So you breathe in deeply and breathe out slowly seven times. Gently close your eyes, if it's safe for you to do so, and imagine the positive impact focusing on gratitude will have on your life. The purpose of this experiment is to guide you gently towards a long-term gratitude practice you do daily. Longitudinal studies suggest that regular gratitude practice over time has enduring positive effects. Let us now review why gratitude increases your happiness: An attitude of gratitude uplifts our spirits and increases our mental and physical well-being. How do you feel when you are thankful to someone else? When we focus on the negative, “what does not work,” the doom and gloom, gratitude brings us back to our aliveness and positivity. Expressing gratitude extends our love as we recognize the goodness in our lives, even through the ups and downs. It also helps us cope with stress and buffers the impact of life's challenges. Therefore, gratitude helps us activate and optimize positive emotions like joy, happiness, satisfaction, optimism and contentment. Focusing on the positive aspects of life with a regular gratitude practice is linked to greater life satisfaction and fosters a more positive outlook. Indeed, neuroscientific research indicates that a grateful mind has measurable positive effects on brain regions related to social bonding, empathy, and emotional processing. Another benefit worth noting is the link between gratitude and higher levels of self-esteem: recognizing and appreciating our strengths contributes to a positive self-image. So let's do it! Let's increase our gratitude this week by deepening our love, hope and faith. Gratitude is the starting point of happiness. Let's return to Love. Love is our salvation, and it is essential to intensify that energy in times of doubt, disappointment, frustration, anger, stress and despair. Take a deep breath into your heart centre, in the middle of your chest, and your physical heart, and align your thinking with abundance as you say thank you from the depth of your heart. This week, we will practise gratitude by gently opening ourselves to life's wonders, little by little. Every day, take a moment to identify three things you are grateful for. These can be small, ordinary, or even unexpected. It could include things that lift your spirit, and bring a little spark of joy into your day. Like the comforting warmth of your favourite drink, a stroll in the park, the song of a bird, or a moment of stillness when you just breathe. By being grateful for life's simple pleasures, you raise your energy to a state of appreciation and positivity, viewing life with warmth. Here is your daily reflection: Write these moments down, letting yourself linger with each one and feeling the happiness they bring. Even a few words are enough to capture the feeling. Each reflection becomes a key, unlocking happiness and lighting up your heart. Remember: “When you say yes! to love, you say yes! to life.” Gratitude is a notable well-being enhancer. The more grateful you are, the more blessings you attract when you align with the energy of appreciation. To make it fun this week, take photos or draw the simple things in life you are most grateful for. As you progress through this week, notice how gratitude can transform your perspective on each day. Feel how these moments of happiness expand in your heart. This is the beginning of our journey, one gentle, graceful step at a time. Until next time, I'm sending you lots of love and light.

Ray Martin, also known as The Daily Explorer, is an entrepreneur and award-winning business leader. But for the Christian, joy, unlike happiness, isn't a temporary emotion. Joy is confidence in God, and it's something that no circumstance or person can take away. That's a huge difference!
