The episode is about how the experience of being lost in the woods is similar to the spiritual journey with God. It starts with the idea that when we don't pay attention to our GPS or trail markers, we can easily become disoriented in the woods. In the same way, when we don't abide in God and place our trust in worldly things, we can become spiritually disoriented and lost. The prophet Isaiah expresses this in Isaiah 22:11, we he poses the question "why should we bother with God when we have our own resources?" The answer to remind us of who God is and our purpose in life, today's conversation is amplifying the themes in chapters one and two of the Blue Cord Book.Hope Mills is the founder of Foreign Soils, a ministry to mobilize military wives to share God's love and truth with people who have never heard it before. Hope's own faith and trust in the Lord was shaped by her experience growing up as a missionary in Eastern Europe after the fall of communism. Thousands of people attended open air crusade meetings and were able to hear the gospel and get saved. Hope is encouraging people to join the online group that is kicking off on March 9th to further the gospel and spread God's love. Her parents were missionaries who held open-air crusade meetings. She was five when this was happening, and it left a lasting impression on her. As a young girl, she experienced first-hand the power of prayer when her family ran out of money. Miraculously, her mother found a hundred-dollar bill in her purse twice. This cemented her trust in God and her desire to be a missionary. She trained and was ready to go, but something unexpected changed her plans. She was preparing to go overseas with a specific agency when she suddenly got very sick and had to quit everything and move back home with her parents. There were feelings of a crisis of faith, but she was strengthened by a Bible study with a woman from a communist party who eventually gave her life to the Lord. During this time, Hope felt God's overwhelming love and eventually went to work with international students for six years. On a trip to the Middle East, she had a dream about walking through a large country looking for something and entering a mosque/museum where there was a woman sitting dirty and covered in sores. I can't wait for you to hear that story.#WomensBibleStudy #ChristianWomen #BlueCord #iHOPE #Evangelism #GospelofJesus #EvangelismTraining #CrossCulturalOutreach #ChristianWitness #JesusFollower #WomenWhoLoveJesus #MomsWhoLoveJesus-------->>>Helpful Resources: Foreign Soils: https://www.foreignsoils.com/“The Blue Cord" by Karen Bejjani Find it wherever books are sold online. The Blue Cord Small Group Discipleship Study. Take Your Learning DeeperJoin the iHOPE Community. Since his retirement from the military in 2015, he has worked for a veteran service organization in their mental health department. He and his team provide resiliency-based retreats for individuals, couples, and families. Rich has served as a ward mission leader and elders quorum president (several times each), as a high priest group leader and branch president, in the young mens presidency and bishopric, on the stake high council, and more. He currently resides in Hope Mills, North Carolina, near Fort Bragg, has been happily married for over 22 years, and has four amazing children and one pretty-OK beagle. Highlights 1:15 Introduction 5:15 Conversion story. Joining the Church at 20 years old. 8:15 Rich's background with the military 10:30 Rich's education and how he got into mental health 13:40 Therapy isn't for everyone. There are other options, such as retreats. 16:40 The importance of creating a unit in an elders quorum or Relief Society. Ask them about other aspects of their lives. 36:15 Other things to know about a veteran. What's their relationship to their spouse? Were there kids involved in their deployments? 37:30 One of the biggest problems for veterans is finding life outside the military because that's all they've known. Finding a job and transferring skills into a different reality can be very difficult for them. 42:00 We all get tied up in our identities. We let titles become our identity. Really it's only a small piece of us. 43:50 What can a church leader do to help guide someone as their identity is shifting? Sometimes it's clear when someone is struggling and sometimes it's easy for people to hide. 54:45 Rich explains how he personally was affected by PTSD 59:00 Coping mechanisms for PTSD and mental health. Rich's are physical fitness, music, and learning to take a moment. 1:01:00 Unhealthy coping mechanisms. These could be pornography, self medicating with prescription drugs, or alcohol. Instead of focusing on the unhealthy behavior, focus on the underlying emotions and thoughts. 1:04:45 The things that have helped Rich the most as he dealt with PTSD 1:06:00 We often hear about PTSD but two other mental health issues that veterans struggle with are survivor's guilt and moral injury 1:10:00 Knowing what not to say is more important than knowing what to say to people that are struggling. IGSTS Episode #16I got somethang ta say That justice is a blind goddessIs a thing to which we poor are wiseHer bandage hides two festering soresThat once, perhaps, were eyesThe Great Langston HughesDaunte Wright's murder. Was it a careless mistake or something more sinister? SAF Moe ur Prison Lawyer and Ron B in the Middle discuss the facts from their perspectives. Moreover, the hosts of I got somethang ta say, try to make sense of a verdict, that makes no sense. Under the current system of law enforcement, if a police officer is in the process of apprehending an individual for some alleged offense, that person has no right to resist. Even if the officer is in the wrong. That individual cannot use deadly force against the aggressor, however, it can and will be used against that individual. As most Americans are not overt victims of overseeing and control, a problem only faced by the most downtrodden, critical subjects such as the Potter verdict, over-policing, and hyper-minority incarceration may seem overly sensationalized, notwithstanding, as for African Americans who deal with it on a day-to-day basis, it is only the system reaffirming its grasp around their proverbial throats. The subject of unarmed men and women of color being murdered is a very sensitive topic; moreover, faced with the fact that law enforcement has been used as a tool to remove all human dignity from certain persons for the purpose of control, this conversation must be had, this space must be free and open until no person is killed simply for being unapologetically different in America!Justin Terrell (Executive Director) Minnesota Justice Research Center is our special guest and speaks truth to power. Mr. Terrell is a lifelong advocate for justice and he discusses politics in Minnesota and felons' disenfranchisement in the political process.Note:In Tennessee v. Garner (1985), thus. Supreme Court reframed such actions by police to fall under the Fourth Amendment. The Court commented that "Whenever an officer restrains the freedom of a person to walk away, he has seized that person . . . there can be no question that application of deadly force is a seizure subject to the reasonableness requirement of the Fourth Amendment." This case essentially abolished the over-broad use of the "fleeing felon" doctrine by striking down the use of "all necessary means" to apprehend fleeing suspects. This Episode 16 is dedicated to all humans who were murdered by police violence. Here are a few names:1. Tony McDade aka Natosha McDade, 38, Tallahassee, FL2. A cowboy is made in eight seconds. That's how long you have to last on a bull for it to count as a successful "ride." Anything less than that is a failure. Eight seconds, as the host of the 18th Airborne Corps podcast found out, is a lot harder than it sounds.   In episode 62 of the official podcast of the US Army, we'll meet a group of American Soldiers who are also professional and semi-professional bull riders.   Bull riding is an adrenaline rush. It initiates a sense of terror, power, and, once complete, relief. That's because it is INCREDIBLY dangerous....the bulls have no interest in your risk assessment. In fact, a professional bull rider is much more likely to be seriously injured than an NFL player.   Moises Silva, an Army Specialist stationed on Fort Bragg, has been riding bulls his entire life. He's been injured more than 20 times, cracked his skull, and spent a month in a coma. He's also gotten really good at hanging on and riding up to that eight seconds.   Casey Jones, another Army specialist, is one of the few woman Army bull riders. She absolutely loves everything about the sport: the training, working with the animals, the teamwork.   Both Moises and Casey join the podcast, both in the Fort Bragg studio and then at a rodeo in Hope Mills, North Carolina, for this episode.   One thing should be clear by the end of this episode: the host of this podcast will do ANYTHING to promote the 18th Airborne Corps podcast...to include risk serious injury at the hands of a 2,000-pound bull.   Find out how Moises and Casey engendered a sense of community with a small group of Fort Bragg Soldiers through this odd pastime. Find out what they got involved with bull riding, what they get out of it, and what they hope to achieve in the sport. Find out if our host can last two seconds on a bull.   The 18th Airborne Corps podcast is an official Department of Defense program. Recorded on Fort Bragg, North Carolina, a new episode is released every Tuesday.      Please subscribe to the 18th Airborne Corps podcast on Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-18th-airborne-corps-podcast/id1547996961), Spotify (https://open.spotify.com/show/15BMwodlZc84yiPK0AYSHq), or Stitcher (https://www.stitcher.com/show/the-doomsday-clock).   You won't miss any of the interesting guests or cool stories if you subscribe.
