So, how many people do you know who have had a children's book written about them? Concept Study for Observing Galactic Neutrinos in Neptune's Atmosphere by Trent English et al. on Wednesday 12 October I discuss the feasibility of a conceptual space-based neutrino detector that utilizes the Ice Giants as Targets for Galactic Neutrinos. The purpose of this research stems from the concept of wanting to find a new method of observing the Galactic Core (GC) of the Milky Way and the Supermassive black hole, Sag A*. Observations of the GC have been made in every accessible wavelength except for the regions of space that are too dense for photons to probe. In these regions, we may instead use neutrinos. Neutrinos from the Active Galactic Nucleus are emitted at extreme energies, 10 GeV to EeV scales, but have an extremely low flux measured here at Earth. Neutrino telescopes such as the IceCube Observatory have only been able to measure a handful of neutrinos that might correlate to the GC. But using Gravitational lensing, our sun can be used as a lens which increases the 'light' collection power for neutrinos by a factor of $10^{13}$, with the trade-off that the minimum focal point is located at 22 AU. This means that Uranus and Neptune are suitable natural targets for these neutrinos to interact with and observe the effects of a spacecraft in orbit. Initial studies use GEANT4, a particle physics simulation toolbox developed by CERN, to facilitate the propagation of energetic particles passing through the atmosphere of Neptune. Various aspects are studied to understand the behaviors of these particle interactions. For each of these aspects, we modify several variables such as particle type, energy, interaction depth, and orbital distance from the surface. Naomi is a postdoctoral fellow at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and Howard University in the USA where she works on all things Ice Giants (Uranus and Neptune) in particular looking at them with JWST. The perfectly timed episode follows on from newly released images of Neptune taken with JWST that Naomi had been working on and we discuss the future of Ice Giant science with JWST and a mission to Uranus. After a health giggle session over an excessive use of the word "Uranus" we dive into the science of what a mission to the planet could help us reveal and what makes the Ice Giants so unique.

A photochemical model of Triton's atmosphere with an uncertainty propagation study by B. Benne et al. on Monday 12 September Triton is the largest satellite of Neptune and probably a Kuiper Belt Object that was captured by the planet. It has a tenuous nitrogen atmosphere similar to the one of Pluto and may be an ocean world. The Neptunian system has only been visited by Voyager 2 in 1989. Over the last few years, the demand for a new mission to the Ice Giants and their systems has increased so that a theoretical basis to prepare for such a mission is important. We aim to develop a photochemical model of Triton's atmosphere with an up-to-date chemical scheme, as previous photochemical models date back to the post-flyby years. This is done to better understand the mechanisms governing Triton's atmospheric chemistry and highlight the critical parameters having a significant impact on the atmospheric composition. We also study model uncertainties to find what chemical studies are necessary to improve the modeling of Triton's atmosphere. We adapted a model of Titan's atmosphere to Triton's conditions. We first used Titan's chemical scheme before updating it to better model Triton's atmosphere. Once the nominal results were obtained, we studied model uncertainties with a Monte-Carlo procedure. Then, we performed global sensitivity analyzes to identify the reactions responsible for model uncertainties. With the nominal results, we determined the composition of Triton's atmosphere and studied the main chemical processes. We highlighted key chemical reactions that are the most important for the overall chemistry. We also identified some key parameters having a significant impact on the results. Uncertainties are large for most of the main atmospheric species as the atmospheric temperature is very low. We identified key uncertainty reactions that have the largest impact on the results uncertainties. A photochemical model of Triton's atmosphere with an uncertainty propagation study by B. Benne et al. on Monday 12 September Triton is the largest satellite of Neptune and probably a Kuiper Belt Object that was captured by the planet. It has a tenuous nitrogen atmosphere similar to the one of Pluto and may be an ocean world. The Neptunian system has only been visited by Voyager 2 in 1989. Over the last few years, the demand for a new mission to the Ice Giants and their systems has increased so that a theoretical basis to prepare for such a mission is important. We aim to develop a photochemical model of Triton's atmosphere with an up-to-date chemical scheme, as previous photochemical models date back to the post-flyby years. This is done to better understand the mechanisms governing Triton's atmospheric chemistry and highlight the critical parameters having a significant impact on the atmospheric composition. We also study model uncertainties to find what chemical studies are necessary to improve the modeling of Triton's atmosphere. We adapted a model of Titan's atmosphere to Triton's conditions. We first used Titan's chemical scheme before updating it to better model Triton's atmosphere. Once the nominal results were obtained, we studied model uncertainties with a Monte-Carlo procedure. Then, we performed global sensitivity analyzes to identify the reactions responsible for model uncertainties. With the nominal results, we determined the composition of Triton's atmosphere and studied the main chemical processes. We highlighted key chemical reactions that are the most important for the overall chemistry. We also identified some key parameters having a significant impact on the results.
