“There are two ideal profiles for a procurement founder … you have industry veterans that live the problem, feel the pain, go out and create a solution to solve that pain. That's been a tale as old as time. … There's also serial entrepreneurs that don't have a procurement background but understand a problem and want to go study it and bring on others to help them.” In recent years, there has been an “explosion” of procurement tech startups. But not all procurement startups are able to reach their full potential. In this episode from Digital Outcomes 2023, Philip Ideson speaks with Jack Freeman, procure tech investor and Partner at PeakSpan Capital, about the challenges and opportunities procurement tech startups face, particularly in category specialized solutions like SaaS, vertical software, finance, or construction. Jack shares his perspective on: The most common reasons procure tech startups struggle Strategies for avoiding the most common roadblocks founders and CPOs face when working with or launching young or emerging technologies The skills and background procurement tech founders should develop to successfully raise the capital they need to scale their technologies and go to market The nuances of what makes a successful procure tech founder Links: Jack Freeman on LinkedIn Watch Digital Outcomes 2023 on Demand

Jean Lynch got started in racing back in 1957. Her husband, Ed, had a friend who was in the jalopy division at a track close to where she lived, called Hyde Park. Jean attended one of the races with Ed when he went to work the pits. In those days, women and children were not allowed in the pits, so Jean sat in the stands with her young son. From that day, Jean and Ed became fans of the sport of racing. They began making the trip to Langhorne to see the big race. After about a year, Jack Freeman, who was a part of the Langhorne Track crowd, approached Jean at home one day and expressed his interest in obtaining the track at Latrobe, and asked if she would be interested in helping with the operation. She agreed to the proposal and went ahead and sold tickets to the spectators, then signed all the cars in, lined up all the cars, scored all the cars, then she paid off and went home, wrote the stories, did the points and composed the release for the next week. She became a "women of many hats". The tribute program of Jean Lynch tells the whole story.
1995's GLORY DAZE tells the story of Jack Freeman, played by a young Ben Affleck at his most sour and unlikeable, and his four college housemates as they face graduation and make an attempt to prolong their carefree lifestyles before going their separate ways. At one point Affleck's character says “Wanna get a 12er and shred?" and then skateboards around to a New Bomb Turks song, hence why we're covering it. In addition to talking about all the things about this movie that don't work - from its copious use of terrible Warped Tour punk music to its writing, directing and performances - Kevin and Mike keep coming back to a movie they both love, Noah Baumbach's KICKING AND SCREAMING (not to be confused with the Will Ferrell soccer comedy) - a film that came out the same year as GLORY DAZE, is about basically the same thing, and yet manages to be great in every way the GLORY DAZE manages to be terrible. We know you'd rather be bowhunting, but pick up a 12er anyway and listen along as we shred GLORY DAZE to pieces.

DFW comic Jack Freeman chats with Brandy about how he’s managing to stay sane while having only his plants to keep him company during Coronavirus isolation, how his self-deprecating style of comedy has helped him cope with his depression, and why being disabled but not looking disabled has led to tense situations on stage.

And we are back! March Madness is almost to an end, but we have our 4th guest on the show, Mr. Jack Freeman aka Mr. Love! This man is ALL ABOUT LOVE. Jack is a performer of SXSW and you can catch him singing on a random Sunday if you're brunching in Houston. Jack has come to drop knowledge on being an upcoming artist, relationship lessons, and of course what is love.
For some reason, this one left me very depressed. Maybe it's because I began the show (after briefly playing some Al Green to hype myself up) ranting about awful people (Asia Argento, Louis C.K., the dude in Memphis who had sex with that corpse) and awful things (the increase in STDs, the time I was recently an unwitting accomplice to a gas-station robbery). Or maybe it's because my guests are fun-loving, local hip-hop trio The Hue, and how they had a camaraderie and charisma on the mic that sadly alludes me. Or maybe it's because I kept getting feedbacks off the mics and the whole thing sounds like a gotdamn amateur hour. Oh whatever -- enjoy the show. As for music, I play tunes from Jack Freeman, The Suffers featuring Lyle Divinsky and H.I.S.D. (Hueston Independent Spit District) featuring Michelle Thibeaux. The Sour Hour airs Wednesday nights, 9/8c, on KPFT HD2. Listen live at http://kpft.org/listen.
