An amazing conversation with Jahan Khamsehzadeh, Ph.D., who is a child of immigrants; mother from Mexico and father from Iran. His childhood was painful. He felt alienated at school. By high school he was clinically depressed and suicidal. Existence seemed bleak. A month after graduating high school someone he had just met that day gave me a handful of mushrooms while he was on my way to see my favorite band, Tool, play for the first time. Little did I know it was going to be one of the most significant days of my life. Once Tool hit the stage, the mushroom's effects began. My experience of time dissolved. There was only this present moment. My consciousness rushed toward a threshold that I perceived to be death. The movie The Matrix came to mind. I felt like the character, Neo, about to be unplugged from the Matrix. And like his first time being unplugged, I did not know what was on the other side. For fifteen minutes I held back from crossing this line and then, out of curiosity, I relaxed and let my being move forward. What occurred was an explosion in my consciousness to a degree I had never experienced. I could feel every cell of my being orgasmically rejoice in love and celebration. I felt eternal—that my consciousness existed before the Big Bang and will exist after death. There was a familiarity to this feeling, as if I had known it all along. Then a voice—strong and not my own—arose in my consciousness to say “Jahan.” I asked if this was real. The voice replied, “Yes.” Every wall I had built in my heart collapsed. I broke into a gushing river of tears for the next 90 minutes. That's the start of his journey and the passion he developed for what he is doing to expand consciousness through psychedelics.

Jahan Khamsehzadeh, Ph.D has spent two decades researching psychedelics in the context of both evolution and psychotherapy and says he “knows of no more powerful means of transforming consciousness than those that use the assistance of psychedelics.” In this in-depth and eye-opening discussion Jahan shares a pivotal psychedelic mystical experience. He presents key scientific research into the efficacy of psychedelic therapy for depression and other health issues, why modern Western culture has had such a legal and moral antagonism towards psychedelics and the emerging therapeutic landscape which integrates academia, science and traditional shamanism. He also gives context to microdosing with psilocybin mushrooms. ---Jahan's dissertation on psychedelics in the Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness program at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in San Francisco was later published as the book The Psilocybin Connection: Psychedelics, the Transformation of Consciousness, and Evolution of the Planet - An Integral Approach (North Atlantic Books, 2022). He graduated from the University of Arizona with a major in Philosophy and minors in both Physics and Psychology then going on to earn a master's in Consciousness and Transformative Studies from John F. Kennedy University. Additionally, Jahan has taken a comprehensive Hakomi somatic-psychotherapy training, assisted with the Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy Certificate training at CIIS for two years, mentored at the newly emerging School of Consciousness Medicine and trained in the Mazatec mushroom tradition. Currently, he works as a facilitator for legal psilocybin mushroom ceremonies in Jamaica with Atman Retreats, one of the few opportunities offered worldwide where people can legally experience psilocybin. www.psychedelicevolution.orgLiked what you heard? Dr. Jahan Khamsehzadeh was born on January 13, 1984 in Los Angeles, California. At the age of four, his family moved to Tucson, Arizona where they spent the next twenty years before leaving for graduate school in the Bay Area. Dr. Jahan Khamsehzadeh's parents were both immigrants, with Dr. Jahan Khamsehzadeh's mother coming from Mexico and Dr. Jahan Khamsehzadeh's father from Iran. Growing up was difficult for Dr. Jahan Khamsehzadeh as they felt alienated in school. By high school, Dr. Jahan Khamsehzadeh was clinically depressed and suicidal. Despite being a church-goer as a child, Dr. Jahan Khamsehzadeh became an atheist by their teenage years. Life seemed bleak for Dr. Jahan Khamsehzadeh. However, a month after graduating high school, an encounter with a stranger changed Dr. Jahan Khamsehzadeh's life forever. The stranger handed Dr. Jahan Khamsehzadeh a handful of mushrooms as they were on their way to see their favorite band, Tool, play live for the first time. This event would go on to be one of the most significant moments in Dr. Jahan Khamsehzadeh's life. Gary and Dr. Khamsehzadeh talk about the psychedelic evolution. We are all one. We should love every human because we are all connected. Love is everything. Psychedelics are crucial to open our minds to understand the universe and ourselves. There was a time not too long ago where I would've heard ideas like this and thought "what the f*ck kind of hippy nonsense are we talking about?" I am sure there are some people reading this who might be thinking that as well. I get it, without context or the full depth of what the words mean, it could sound like some abstract nonsense. That is why I strongly encourage you to listen to this conversation (and all of these conversations really--sorry shameless plug) with Jahan. You may not agree with the beliefs or views, you may still think drugs in any form are dangerous, and you may ultimately have a much more straight forward, less abstract view of life. That is OK. But how would you ever really know that if you didn't consider another perspective? How would you know if it is "hippy nonsense" if you didn't actually take the time to understand what is being said? That's why I do this show, to force myself to take the time and consider other perspectives. And I'm glad I did. Jahan is a Ph.D. who completed his dissertation on psychedelics in the Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness program at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS). He wrote a book, The Psilocybin Connection and he also provides Hakomi somatic-psychotherapy and psychedelic driven counseling sessions to clients (full details here- https://psychedelicevolution.org/). He is extremely well read and brings a deep scientific/data driven approach to understanding these "hippy topics." Learning more about psychedelics was super interesting, but as always my favorite part of the conversation was when we questioned and examined some of the concepts. We discussed/debated if psychedelics are necessary to achieve true humility, if loving everyone equally should be our goal, and if the Aztecs' demise was rooted in their use of psychedelics--just to name a few. Big thanks to Jahan for sharing his knowledge and openly exploring a bunch of interesting topics with me.
We have a special guest on our show today, Dr. Jahan Khamsehzadeh, who is an author of a recent book called The Psilocybin Connection. We talk about plant medicine and the various modalities that are used in healing these days with Jahan, who knows quite a bit about this subject. Jahan tells about his first experience with psychedelics and an impression he received and voice he heard, which he believes was God, which has set his life on a path he didn't anticipate earlier in his life. People who experience these types of experiences will often experience a natural regulation of the breathing that will help calm the individual and can put you into a meditative state. Sound is a very important part of the rhythm and can really help people to feel synchronized, which can be magnified through music. About Jahan 1:15Letting go of the limitations we have nurtured unconsciously 7:38Struggling with anxiety 9:10Breathing 16:05Music 21:05Shaman and its meaning 23:20The next evolutionary step 28:39Learning to love 36:25What people were missing with sex, drugs, and rock and roll 40:10Being homoluminous 45:34The brighter stars are binary 50:07Preparatory steps to consider 51:23“It's very clear to me that psychedelics have been the most transformative methods I've ever come across and I've done a lot of meditation, a lot of therapy, a lot of every modality you can come across, and I also felt this is where I could be the most useful. We're really missing this crucial element as a species that can really restabilize us, reintegrate us back into the planet and help us really discover who we really are as a species and as more of a larger spiritual being.” 3:39psilohealth.co

Grandpa Bill today introduces Jahan Khamsehzadeh, Ph.D. in this Prelude Show, to his appearance here in early 2023. Grandpa Bill today asks all listeners Do You Know Anybody Being Medically Treated with Psilocybin Mushrooms? Grandpa Bill will be asking my guest, Jahan Khamsehzadeh What is The History of Native American tribes of North America ceremonially use of psilocybin mushrooms as he understands it? The History of Psilocybin From Ancient Times to Modern Uses Creating a state of hyper-connectivity between brain networks, doubling the size of human brains, enabling technological innovations, and sparking ideas like religion and language. Psilocybin in Central America The ancient civilizations that most famously used psilocybin were in Central America. There is a lot of indigenous artwork in Central America that depicts mushrooms as a means of communicating with the gods. Proponents touted an increasing amount of research supporting the therapeutic benefits of psilocybin in treating depression, anxiety, PTSD, and addiction to other drugs.Indigenous tribes in Siberia used hallucinogenic mushrooms called Amanita Muscaria which, funnily enough, reindeer also commonly consume. These cultures still are known to collect and drink the psychoactive urine of said reindeer. Dr. Dustin Sulak, an osteopath in Falmouth, supports the bill. Sulak told the committee, "I have several patients that will take just a very small dose in the morning, and it controls their pain, and they're able to go about their day feeling a lot better without any impairment.” More info in todays episode and future episodes topics will include: #Psilocybin mushrooms #Psychedelics and evolution #The evolution of consciousness #Psychedelic therapy #Deep healing and spiritual exploration Please interact at my Anchor Message Board Leave me messages there. #Mushrooms #Consciousness #Transformation #Psilocybin #Evolution #Psychology #Psychedelics #Therapy #Alternative Healing Techniques --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bhsales/message

WHAT IS THE EVOLUTIONARY ROLE OF PSILOCYBIN IN LIFE ON THIS PLANET? This is both an explicit question and an implicit guiding inquiry in the discussion you will hear on this episode Adventures Through The Mind. Our guest is Jahan Khamsehzadeh, PhD. He is the author of The Psilocybin Connection: Psychedelics, the Transformation of Consciousness, and Evolution of the Planet—An Integral Approach. Together we have a conversation that waves in and out from the microscopic to the cosmological. We explore topics such as the role fungi have played and continue to play in the evolution and existence of life on this planet; how psilocybin may have assisted in the development of human consciousness; the role psychedelics can play in cultivating a strong, but healthy ego; why taking heroic doses is not the best way to heal or learn and it may actually hurt you; why an understanding of psychedelics requires us to transcend reductionism and materialism; and more. *** FULL TOPICS BREAKDOWN BELOW** ... Aside from academic work, he has undergone several major trainings, including graduating from the Hakomi somatic-psychotherapy comprehensive training program and training within the Mazatec mushroom tradition. He assisted the Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy Certificate training at CIIS for two years and mentored at the newly emerging School of Consciousness Medicine. He works as a facilitator for legal psilocybin mushrooms ceremonies in Jamaica with Atman Retreats, one of the few opportunities offered worldwide where people can legally experience psilocybin. Jahan is on the PsiloHealth integration team, volunteers at the Zendo Project (which provides psychedelic harm reduction at festivals), and leads a monthly group called “Developing a Relationship with Sacred Mushrooms” with the San Francisco Psychedelic Society. In this discussion we explore how to integrate psychedelic experiences - how to walk the talk and enact the changes in your identity that have been revealed to you during your trip. Integration is as key as the famous ‘set' and ‘setting' aspects of psychedelics work. This conversation is a comprehensive exploration of psilocybin mushrooms and their impact on our psychology, biology, and social development. How—and why—do psychedelics exist? Did psilocybin catalyze our early human ancestors' social evolution? How humanity has co-evolved alongside “magic” mushrooms—Jahan Khamsehzadeh, PhD, explores our historical and ancestral relationship to psychedelics and presents new and exciting research about what psilocybin can mean for us today. Supported by archaeological evidence, neuroscience, and academic studies, he explores how mushrooms gave rise to art and expression, impacted spiritual experiences, and even spurred human brain development. We also explore the topic of psychedelic therapy as Jahan has trained with the Mazatec people of Mexico in traditional psilocybin mushroom use as well as western somatic therapy and works as a facilitator and therapist for Atman psilocybin retreats in Jamaica.
