A Note from James:Imagine you are dying or you're about to die. Let's say you were hit by a car, you're bleeding out, you're on the way to the hospital but you just have this sense that you're not going to live, and you see visions of someone you knew in the past, maybe a mother or a father, and they're saying, "Don't worry, we're here for you." Come down this light at the end of a tunnel. Does that change your experience of life if you then survive? Well, we're going to hear from Sebastian Junger, who wrote "In My Time of Dying: How I Came Face to Face with the Idea of an Afterlife." And if you don't know who Sebastian is, he's written many books about being a war reporter, his experiences in war zones, and other intense situations. But this is perhaps his most intense book that I've read, where he's not talking about deaths on the battlefield or in a war zone, but his own experience of dying and what happened to him during that experience. It really makes you think. And I've been thinking about it a lot for personal reasons this past week. I hope everybody enjoys it. If you do, please retweet it, share it with your friends, and subscribe to the podcast so all the good little algorithms work for me. Thanks so much, and here is Sebastian.Episode Description:In this compelling episode, James Altucher converses with Sebastian Junger, acclaimed author and war reporter, about his harrowing near-death experience and his exploration of the afterlife in his latest book, "In My Time of Dying." Junger shares the profound and mystifying moments he faced at the brink of death, challenging his atheistic beliefs and scientific understanding. This episode isn't just about a personal encounter with mortality but dives into the larger implications of consciousness, the mysteries of the human mind, and what it means to truly live after facing death. What You'll Learn:The profound impact of near-death experiences on one's worldview and beliefs. The intersection of scientific rationalism and mystical experiences.Insights into the psychological and emotional aftermath of surviving a near-death experience.Theories about consciousness and the potential for an afterlife from both scientific and experiential perspectives.Practical lessons on living a more appreciative and meaningful life after a brush with death.Chapters:00:01:30 - Introduction: Sebastian Junger's Near-Death Experience00:04:41 - The Moment of Crisis: Abdominal Hemorrhage and Medical Intervention00:09:00 - Encountering the Void and Seeing His Father00:14:22 - The Medical Miracle: Innovative Interventional Radiology00:24:26 - Rational Explanations vs. Mystical Experiences00:31:30 - Unexplained Phenomena: Quantum Mechanics and Consciousness00:41:29 - Personal and Philosophical Reflections on Life and Death00:52:30 - The Aftermath: Dealing with Anxiety and Fear00:56:35 - Finding Meaning and Appreciation in Life Post-Trauma01:02:15 - Writing About the Experience: Structuring the Narrative01:05:28 - Final Thoughts and TakeawaysAdditional Resources:Sebastian Junger's Official WebsiteIn My Time of Dying: How I Came Face to Face with the Idea of an AfterlifeTribe: On Homecoming and Belonging by Sebastian JungerWar by Sebastian JungerQuantum Enigma: Physics Encounters Consciousness by Bruce Rosenblum and Fred KuttnerBiocentrism: How Life and Consciousness are the Keys to Understanding the True Nature of the Universe by Robert Lanza ------------What do YOU think of the show? Biocentrism: Unraveling the Illusion of Space & Time

The Red Light Report

What if I told you that time and space are truly illusions and only constructs used by humans to better understand and operate in our world? That there is no such thing as an "external" and "internal" world and what we think we see "out there" is literally occurring and being conceived inside our head? Based on physics and biology, this is all true; is our consciousness that dictates all that we see and perceive in our world... If this is all tough to comprehend and wrap your mind around, you are certainly not alone. This is all the basis for biocentrism.   Recently, I have been reading a series of books on this very topic (Biocentrism, Beyond Biocentrism and The Grand Biocentric Design, all by Robert Lanza, MD) and it has been extremely mind-bending, mind-expanding and, ultimately, still tough to fathom, as it all completely flies in the face of the paradigm we have all been entrenched in for hundreds and hundreds of years. Within all of this, there are also explanations of light, such as what it is, the role it plays in life and how we interact with it as beings. I find it all very fascinating! So today, I share some excerpts from the first two books to give you a peak into the world of biocentrism. Perhaps it will resonate with you and expand your mind like it did mine. Perhaps it is just "too out there" for you. Regardless, I ask that you listen to his episode with an open mind. After all, our mind and consciousness is where our entire world of reality exists... “Opponents replied that when you modeled a hurricane, nobody got wet. When you modeled a fusion power plant, no energy was produced. When you modeled digestion and metabolism, no nutrients were consumed – no real digestion took place. So, when you modeled the human brain, why should you expect real thought to occur?” Welcome back to another episode of Made You Think! In this episode, we're talking all things consciousness and simulated reality with Permutation City by Greg Egan. Classified as a hard science fiction novel, the book tells the story of a man who seeks to create immortality by creating "software" copies of the mind. We cover a wide range of topics including: The complex nature of consciousness Egan's "Dust Theory" What it's like to live in a simulation Ethics surrounding death and dying The possibilities that come with computer intelligence And much more. We're discussing Permutation City, a 'hard science fiction' book from 1994. This book explores many concepts including The Dust Theory and achieving immortality through copying your consciousness. (4:24) Intro to Dust Theory. There are infinitely many universes existing at all space and time. As soon as a universe is perceived by a conscious intelligence, that universe comes to exist, and that universe will always continue to exist as long as there is consciousness to observe it. (8:11) Are we in a simulation? We learn in response to stimuli which is also how LLMs (large language models) learn too. (13:12) Nat, Neil, and Adil define consciousness, discuss the idea of transporting consciousness, and how we differ from LLMs. We have a private and inner mind that generates its own thoughts and feelings. We can't be certain whether computers have this or not. (22:01) There's an 'engine' in our heads that is focused on our survival and continuation. (23:21) Ethics surrounding death. One can argue that life is short, but when you've lived for thousands of years through copying your consciousness, it becomes a question of when it's enough. (28:39) If we could somehow prevent bodily decay and the death of our loved ones, would we ever be ready to die, and is aging something that we can slow down or affect?  (33:43) In the book, from the perspective of the humans, the copies are just programs who look intelligent, but they aren't real. From the perspective of the copies, it's all very real. (41:31) Time dilation and running consciousness slower for the copies. The slowdown doesn't necessarily affect the copy. The time perception is still the same to them, but it may affect how they interact with the real world. (46:08) There's a baseline risk for being alive. You can try to get all of your life risks to zero, but it is best to accept that there will always be some general risk. (51:49) Collaboration in publishing. While most books have a single author, it may add some dimension to get expertise from guest authors with knowledge in different fields. (54:50) What did Greg Egan regret most about Permutation City?  (1:02:11) That concludes this episode! Stay tuned for our next episode on History of the Peloponnesian War. "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light." Welcome back to another episode of Made You Think! In this episode, Neil and Adil discuss the next book on their Great Books Project: the book of Genesis. The book begins with the story of creation and wraps up with the lives of Jacob and Joseph, with numerous stories, lessons, and genealogies in between the 50 chapters.   We cover a wide range of topics including: Science and religion: Do they conflict or complement each other? The beginning of time and formation of Earth How depictions of God, or a higher power, differ across religions The stories of Adam, Eve, Jacob, Joseph, Abraham, Isaac, and more Whether the Bible should be interpreted literally vs. allegorically And much more. The book was passed down through the oral tradition, and wasn't written down until hundreds of years after it was spoken. It has also been translated into over 700 languages. It poses the question, who wrote down the story, and how much of it has changed being passed down orally?  7:11 Adil talks about books he has read previous to Genesis by Karen Armstrong. One thing he notes is that the Bible was not meant to be read literally. Of course, there are parts that can be taken literally, but many of the stories are allegorical and symbolic in meaning. 12:45 Jacob's story: Jacob wrestles with someone who is unnamed, though interpreted as God. At one point, they touch hips and he walks away injured, but he has that injury for the rest of his life. This story, if not taken literally, can allude to the internal scars that you have battling and wrestling with your inner demons. 14:01 The structure of Genesis. First comes the story of creation, followed by the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve. The term Toledot meaning “generations” or "descendants. The last section of Genesis is dedicated to Jacob, which sets up for the following book in the Bible, Exodus. 15:27 The story of Joseph and Jacob. This story resonates on a moral level with people because it serves as a reminder that the journey is just as important as the destination. Your journey may not always go as planned. Even if you have everything you want, you may still have regrets about how you got there. 19:00 Neil makes a connection to the Bhagavad Gita. One of the morals of this story is very similar. In the end, the good guys got what they wanted and won the war, but lost everything in the process. Was it worth it? It's a similar message that Jacob's life represents in Genesis.  20:05 The redeeming arc for Jacob came through his brother Esau and how he forgave Jacob for his wrongdoings. When they met, it may appear that Esau was upset and Jacob was ready to meet his fate, yet he ended up being forgiven. Through that forgiveness, Jacob was transformed. 23:21 We're all on our own path to learning, both spiritually and religiously. Growing up, you tend to adopt the beliefs of your family and other surroundings. We often believe that when something isn't completely certain, that it must be wrong. 27:16 Evolution, the beginning of time, and extraterrestrial life. When you think about how everything has been formed in a way that led to life here on earth, it's astonishing. If the universe is indeed infinite, then it's very possible that it lines up for other life forms to exist elsewhere, and they could exist under completely different conditions than on Earth. 31:23 Adil makes a connection to the book Vehicles. The knowledge we have isn't always solid and requires faith to believe in.  34:10 Organized religion has tended to go with a more literal meaning, for example modern Christianity in America. One common belief is that if you're scientific, you can't also be religious and it's made into a dichotomy. It's possible that they can be completely aligned with each other. Both can be viewed as tools for understanding the world better, and they don't have to necessarily be viewed as opponents. 36:03 Why do subjective experience exists? If the goal of life is just to produce offspring and continue the circle of life, why do we have this personal experience of life, and how is it beneficial? There isn't much of a scientific explanation for it. 38:55 A lot of the early scientific research in Europe was done by religious people to prove God was real, and that aspects of religion that can be backed by science. The two stories diverged and this led to religious texts being interpreted more literally. However in other religions, Islam for example, it's typically believed that science and religion work together. 41:34 Adam and Eve story, and the significance of the serpent if you take the Bible symbolically. The snake has a unique hold in human psychology. Neil and Adil talk about different animals and how they're perceived in different communities and religions. 46:15 Eve's name means "living" in Hebrew, but it comes from a root that can also mean "snake". There are a lot of unanswered questions that came up, and as we continue to Exodus, we may learn some of these answers to these questions. 51:20 The curses in the book of Genesis are all tied to the knowledge of self awareness and the future. Childbirth was the curse passed on to women, and even early on, women have a knowledge of the pain of it. Men have the curse of labor and work. While the benefits of knowledge and self awareness are received, this also comes with these curses. 53:00 Two main ways that God both gifted and punished His people were through fertility and land. Neil and Adil discuss the story of Abraham, Issac, and Ishmael.  1:01:33 "In the sweat of your face shall you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you shall return." In Abrahamic religions (including Christianity, Islam, and Judaism), they bury their dead. In other religions, there is no burial. 1:06:33 Depictions of God in different religions. In some religions they feel a depiction of their god it's a good way to connect, but in others it can feel alienating. 1:07:13 With each theory about how the universe was created, you can keep asking the question, "What came before that?" The infinite universe as constantly expanding and contracting. The idea of biocentrism, and how it's the observer that makes something a reality. 1:14:36 Thanks for listening! I'm going to explain them in clear, easy to understand words. Then we are going to talk about many theories within science based on trying to understand the results of experiments: the Many Worlds Theory, the Holographic Principle, Quantum Realism, Simulation Theory, and Biocentrism. Then we are going to discuss some crossovers between metaphysics and quantum physics that I both agree and disagree with.

In this episode we have the extraordinary theory of Biocentrism to consider: the hypothesis that the space, time and matter arose from life, and not the other way around. This theory obviously flies completely in the face of material science's Darwinian view that life and consciousness evolved slowly out of ever more complex systems of matter. Now we've heard in multiple interviews on the show so far that similar theories like Panpsychism, the hypothesis that consciousness is fundamental to the physical world, are hugely increasing in popularity and not only among philosophers but also among physicists, perhaps because many of the anomalies coming out of quantum experiments can be explained in a panpsychist model. But this is the first time as far as I know that a scientist has argued that life itself is fundamental to the physical world. Perhaps to many scientists it would sound absurd, but as the theory has been popularised by award winning Stem Cell biologist Robert Lanza, it seems important that we give this theory a closer look. Given our physics slant on Chasing Consciousness, we are extremely lucky to be speaking today with Robert Lanza's co-author on the new book about the theory “The Grand Biocentric Design, How life creates reality”, physicist and author Matej Pavšič Matej Pavšič has been a theoretical physicist at the Jožef Stefan Institute in Slovenia for over 40 years, working on Mirror Particles, Brane Spaces, and Clifford algebra and spaces among other areas. Maybe by looking at some ideas from physics, which has some truly unusual ideas as to the nature of things. The universe might be made of tiny vibrating strings, or physicalized information. It might be a hologram, or a big brain, or an artifact of statistics. All these ideas seem to point to an underlying code of some kind. Which begs the obvious question, what happens when you die?http://www.troubledminds.org Support The Show! https://rokfin.com/creator/troubledminds https://teespring.com/stores/troubled-minds-store #aliens #conspiracy #paranormalRadio Schedule Mon-Tues-Wed-Thurs 7-9pst - https://fringe.fm/iTunes - https://apple.co/2zZ4hx6Spotify - https://spoti.fi/2UgyzqMStitcher - https://bit.ly/2UfAiMXTuneIn - https://bit.ly/2FZOErSTwitter - https://bit.ly/2CYB71URobert's Book -- https://www.amazon.com/Stories-Fractured-Mind-Robert-Collection-ebook/dp/B07D1RVX7Yhttps://www.instagram.com/tamlbam/https://salsidoparanormal.podbean.com/Follow Tinfoil Timothy -- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUvcPlGBPdX89xCA3TRsX-w Follow Jennifer -- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdXA9TJW5fE3d9fK0lAcN9g----------------------------------------------------------------------------https://anomalien.com/quantum-physics-suggests-that-death-doesnt-exist-and-it-is-probably-just-an-illusion/https://www.academia.edu/16617464/Biocentrism_how_Life_and_Consciousness_are_the_keys_to_understanding_the_true_nature_of_the_Universe_Robert_Lanza_and_Bob_Bermanhttps://thereader.mitpress.mit.edu/the-many-worlds-theory/https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/qm-manyworlds/https://www.robertlanza.com/does-death-exist-new-theory-says-no-2/https://educateinspirechange.org/scientist-concludes-death-not-exist-just-illusion/https://allthatsinteresting.com/what-happens-to-your-body-when-you-diehttps://www.jw.org/en/bible-teachings/questions/when-you-die/https://www.universetoday.com/113900/parallel-universes-and-the-many-worlds-theory/https://www.academia.edu/2593017/Philosophising_consciousness_from_string_theoryhttps://studentsofthedream.com/string-theory-dreaming-consciousness/https://www.spiritualresearchfoundation.org/spiritual-research/afterlife/into-the-light/https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/why-people-see-the-light-near-death_uk_5979c5c9e4b02a8434b424d6https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2002/10/what-s-the-deal-with-the-bright-light-you-see-before-dying.htmlhttps://www.rogerebert.com/roger-ebert/the-quantum-theory-of-reincarnationhttps://reincarnationafterdeath.com/can-science-prove/https://www.debate.org/opinions/is-reincarnation-possible?_escaped_fragment_=&_escaped_fragment_=#!https://www.academia.edu/2593017/Philosophising_consciousness_from_string_theoryhttps://archive.vn/HXz0m/again?url=https://www.newsweek.com/where-do-you-go-when-you-die-increasing-signs-human-consciousness-after-death-800443

Acting in uncertainty - Bayesian thinking & probability 14:37 Supernaturalism, Religion & Morality - Using Holism "circle of life!" to justify harming/killing others - The centrality of compassion 18:16 Moral Scope & Considerability - Anthropocentrism, Sentiocentrism, Biocentrism, Ecocentrism - Combining ecocentrism & a compassionate animal welfare perspective. Compassionate conservation - Invasive species governance - How we categorise non-human animals (invasive, companion, farmed, vermin...) - Sentience as a grounding - The instrumental or intrinsic value of ecosystems 25:00 The Future - breaking out of anthropocentrism - Naturalism & sentiocentrism vs. social norms and indoctrination - The damage caused by anthropocentrism - EU Lisbon Treaty (2009) recognition of animal sentience - Human cultures & customs & industry used as justification for harm & killing - Transformative governance: Integrated, inclusive, informed, adaptive. Attending catholic schools. Believing in god. - "I didn't like being Catholic. I found it very restrictive... I didn't like having to pray - it felt fruitless" - Ethics was being thought about but "I didn't like the conservative values" e.g. abortion, contraception, sex - "It just struck me as false." - Catholicism did leave the impression that it's important to think about morality - Majoring in philosophy 8:25 What Matters? - "Morality is objective" - "Even relativists behave like morality is objective... why would you argue unless there were some right answer?" - Even under objective morality duties vary by context - Moral objectivism doesn't have to imply moral realism - Consistency, coherence, flourishing, co-op as potential groundings - Goods (welfare, resources, health, relationships), functions (distribution, efficiency, increases) & constraints (respect) values - "I don't know if pleasure always wins out" - Pluralism within Sentientism 21:15 Moral Scope? Sentience - Anthropocentrism, Sentiocentrism, Biocentrism, Ecocentrism - Sentientism as Sentiocentrism & Naturalism - Sentiocentrism itself implies naturalism. It conflicts with many supernatural/religious worldviews (e.g. soul as basis for moral value, use of science to assess sentience) - Hard cases of marginal sentience (brain injury, foetal development, simplest animals) 28:27 The Journey to Sentientism - Taking a PhD animal ethics course taught by Will Kymlicka based on Zoopolis - Concluding that "Sentience is the correct criterion for inclusion in the moral community" - Pluralism re: various goods. But sentience is a condition for the non-welfare elements to count as good (e.g. health only matters if the being cares about being healthy) - "Veganism is a moral requirement if sentiocentrism is right" - Going vegan during the PhD. Welcome back, love! Today we were joined by Claudette aka Cloudette! This week we talked about the language of the stars, ancestral healing, and the relationship between us and stars. Joins us for an amazing conversation about metamorphosis, learning new abilities, feeling more connected to earth and sky, and trusting your intuition! Points of interest: "Let´s acknowledge the stars, let´s acknowledge all the energies in the world" "Our ancestors used the stars to calculate the nature of the cycles of our universe" "When you get your power back, when you detach from the label, you have to understand the energies" About Claudette: Claudette Outland is a 57-year-old African-Native American woman from Bryn Mawr, Pa. USA. Knowing very early on that a life living in the USA would not fulfill her artist soul, Claudette took the suggestions from a well-known Astrologer and took a year off from studying photography at Parsons School of Design in NYC to travel to West Germany in April of 1984. She used her skills as a photographer to support herself and to secure a grant for a short film entitled Sightseeing. During the film production, commissions for her handmade trademark velvet cap led to the beginning of her career as a milliner. After building the internationally well-known and successful hat brand 'Chapeau Claudette pour de Bonnet,' she sold her hat boutique 'Chapeau' which included over 100 vintage wooden hat blocks and moved to London in 1995. Concessions at three Fashion markets, a hat boutique off Brick Lane and international demand for burlesque headpieces eventually led to the 'Chapeau Claudette Handmade in London' concession in Topshop's Flagship store in London in 2005. Due to the passing of her partner and the offset of her mother's dementia, Claudette left Topshop in 2010 and eventually moved her hat studio to London her flat, where began taking daily photographs of clouds which coincided with the beginning of her spiritual awakening journey. Her conscious decision in the spring of 2015 to prioritize solutions for her mother's dementia changed again her career path. The visits to the Red Sea in Egypt for her mother's health, allowed her to research and develop her philosophy that she calls Skystrology. Cloudette teaches Skystrology in One2 One tutorials and online courses, whilst continuing her research into Biocentrism and Astronomy's connection to Skystrology. Her client base mostly includes Holistic Healers, Light-workers, Empaths and Spiritual Practitioners connection to Astronomy. We discuss: Academic silos between animal/environmental/constitutional law and between law, philosophy and advocacy The disconnect between environmental and animal ethics and law Growing up in a Catholic household, more social than spiritual Appreciating religion as a topic of study, not as something to practice Exploring Eastern religions and spirituality Feeling deeply spiritual without religion Compassion as a theme in many religions Remaining open-minded about religious ideas Agnosticism and atheism Awe, wonder and connectedness within a naturalistic worldview and their commonality with supernatural/spiritual emotions Freedom of belief, but not freedom to use supernatural beliefs to harm others Compassion for all living things & respect for nature, but not realising the link to animal product consumption (even as an environmental law professor) until teaching animal law “How can I have been morally asleep for so long?” The brain-washing of animal product consumption: health, normality Not knowing any v*gans The difficult social process of giving up animal products How much easier going v*gan is now Is the ethical argument re: animal farming over? The Chinese Connection. Family planning in China is highlighted. Is America headed this way? Apparently so, with homosexual "marriage" now having become legal, and laws being bent to allow these to "adopt" children--wombs for rent may be around the corner, with government oversight, of course. Highlighted in the book by Kimberly Ells, The Invincible Family. Ultimately, WHICH candidate: President Trump, or Joe Biden--is soft on China? The answer is obvious.  California Wild-fires. Who or What is to Blame? Climate Change? No. It goes back to "Re-inventing Government" by Bill Clinton and Al Gore whereby "Biocentrism" was adopted and management of forests and woodlands was dramatically changed. Today, with little management such as harvesting and clearing, trees are allowed to grow much more closely together than ever before. This is highlighted in an article in The Epoch Times (9/16-22/20, p. A 17) by H. Sterling Burnett. "Unnatural density allowed what were formerly isolated pockets of insect manifestations to morph into massive infestations killing large swaths of forests. There are now more dead trees in many federal forests than live ones, drying out and become growing stockpile of fuel for wildfires."  John Kachelman, Jr. Alabama preacher, teacher, missionary. "Consider Yourselves Warned, America!" John points out that major alarm bells are ringing, if we will but have ears to hear them. One of these is the softening of Americans to accept a "delayed results" from the election. John exposes the TRANSITION INTEGRITY PROJECT, and its organizers, including John Podesta and Bill Kristol. Another major player, Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook is lining up America with propaganda to influence the upcoming election in favor of Biden. - - American Liberty with Bill Lockwood is about the culture of America — not simply about politics.

Many mainstream scientists are talking about a simulated or digital reality.  We chat about the evolution of different theories, i.e.. string and quark, and entanglement and the observer affect. Jim takes us through the Mandela Affect, quantum computing and how trauma can be passed down through generations.   Jim’s old book lays out the four main categories of evidence; consciousness is fundamental and primary, all matter is digital/data, all matter is data, everything is illusion and the system/thing is digital. His new book will have many more categories and will make these theories more scientific.   We also chat about virtual reality and other theories like the Big TOE, Biocentrism, many worlds and holographic universe….    http://www.theuniversesolved.com/    In the intro Darren and Graham chat about the past life reading they just had!
