In this episode, Gary talks to Jamie Alderton. They talk about finding what you enjoy - and finding what you don't- and then tweaking and changing your life and business direction based on that. Jamie shares his learning curve and what enabled him to get initial success with running a business, even though he - in his own words - did not know what he was doing back in 2012. As he sees it, his entrance fee was the seven years of being disciplined in the military and the mindset of continual learning and constant improvement that period instilled. This is a brilliantly open episode as Jamie (or some of you might remember him as Grenade Jay if you have followed his journey for that long!) shares that he is enjoying what it is that he's doing at the moment and finding that business / work / life fulfillment has been a process in its own right. He also shares that making marginal gains every single week, month, and year is something that has a life-altering impact over a sustained period of time. This show is also a good dose of motivation too as Jamie shares the importance of focusing on where you are right now and working out how to do the best you can with what you have in this moment. What Is Covered In Today's Episode Of The PRO Podcast: Jamie's amazing journey from military career to gobally recognised athlete Jamie's sotic mentality How to making solid investments in yourself Spotting opportunities in other industries and using your skillset to open doors Some of the basics of running a business and getting initial success We hope you enjoyed today's episode, please make sure you subscribe, rate and review the show on your favourite platform. Today’s running partner is Jamie Alderton, who shares his personal growth tips for success. He is a world renowned Bodybuilder, Personal Trainer, Fitness Model, World Record Holder, Motivational Speaker, Author, Blogger, Instagram Legend, Retired Soldier and all-round influencer of Body, Mind and Business. Before you are getting the wrong idea, I’d like to confirm that this all refers to one person! Jamie or Jay, as he calls himself is a modern (almost) rags to riches story! As in all of these stories, it’s the main protagonist, who has to decide what they want for their future and instead of just dreaming, take some action.Jay truly did take action, holding onto his army mindset. After seven years of having someone tell him what to do, he utilised that voice - that continued in his head aimlessly - and gave it the outlet to eat healthy and right, to train rigorously. He didn’t stop there. He uses the same method to work on his Social Media accounts and on his business. This week on Inspired Edinburgh we have Voices In The Dark. Voices In The Dark is a podcast founded by Andrea (Dre) Domenichini and Jon Waterlow with a focus on 'learning how to human'. They have been breaking down Robert Greene's book The 48 Laws Of Power and discuss how understanding and implementing these Laws can enrich ones life personally, professionally and spiritually. They have also done guest interviews with the likes of top body transformation coach Jamie Alderton and entrepreneur Peter Sage and have appeared on the Shredded Brainiac podcast with Ru Wikmann. One of my favourite interviews to date, we go deep on a plethora of topics from the human experience, understanding people, psychedelics in relation to autism and depression as well as exploring the backgrounds of Dre and Jon. A fascinating conversation and a perfect way to maximise two hours! WATCH IT ON YOUTUBE As the title of his book suggests, Jamie likes to flex his mind as well as his biceps, and in this exclusive interview we dive into some powerful ideas about life, goals, self-perception, relationships, mental health, and more: What can the gym teach you about life? How to learn discipline, but not be trapped in obedience: how Jamie went from the soldier mindset to super successful entrepreneur The incredible power of turning your life into a game The power of listening other people… and how to avoid serially triggering each other’s insecurities Debunking the myths that fitness magazines continue to peddle: what do you really have to do to get the body you want? And why does that even matter? Why setting goals can be counterproductive When things are tough, how to tell when it’s time to go ‘all in’, or to recognise that you’re on the wrong track What does it mean to be a man in 2017, and what should it mean? Breaking down the stereotypes of The Meathead and The Geek The difference between Knowing and Doing, and why most of us get stuck at Knowing ‘Fun Shit Friday’ – what it is and why you should have one too Check out Jamie’s most-gifted book, the 30-million-copy bestseller, Psycho-Cybernetics
LAW 32: Play To People's Fantasies You're living a fantasy, whether you know it or not. We all tell stories about ourselves and the world around us, making us intensely vulnerable when someone comes along and bursts our bubble. Or, perhaps worse still, when they tease us with the possibility of making those fantasies real... Fantasies can be dangerous things, and Law 32 explains why. When we want a fantasy to exist badly enough, we're alarmingly good at ignoring any evidence that exposes it – everyday life can be so mundane or even painful otherwise. But Robert takes no prisoners and goes on to describe the unpopular reality that real success and quality work take consistency, discipline and time... And the reasons why we belligerently go on searching for quick fixes and shortcuts. Needless to say, this offers plenty of opportunities for the power-hungry. This week's episode includes tales of travelling alchemists, Dre's spiralling 'cheat days', and the online scams which both of your dear hosts nearly fell for. We discuss the psychological reasons why it's so hard to break out of familiar patterns; why trying to live up to other people's fantasies about you can be beneficial; and why those Nigerian email scams just keep on going. We also delve into the way language works; why we tend to believe the present will last forever; and why people who entwine their identities with their jobs are generally insufferable. We lament the endless proliferation of online coaches coaching you how to coach others to coach you (or something), coin the term Procrasturbator... and Dre promises to get you off, no matter what. And that's just for starters; this episode is pretty awesome, even if we say so ourselves. This episode includes: How to recognise when people are acting on autopilot and how to deal with their emotional outbursts What Donald Trump and Adolf Hitler have in common Health and fitness magazines and the fantasies (lies) they tell you The importance of teaching others in order to learn things yourself Telling the truth is often just a blunt instrument The utterly obvious (but deeply unpopular) secret to success Blogging scams and money laundering which all too easily play with your fantasies The classic illusion we choose to believe: the Honeymoon period in relationships Why everything is a fantasy anyway, but is that a bad thing? Purpose is a feeling, not a destination Romance or reality? Do we have to decide? The power of words The serious dangers of putting this Law into practice Mentioned in the episode: Our friends over at Diapers Off – a podcast which we produce, all about men, growing up. The After Nepal episode: what happened to Jon after a month of meditation in a Buddhist Monastery The article on the new edition of Mein Kampf selling like hotcakes Jamie Alderton's excellent book, Mindset with Muscle The cool cartoon show, BoJack the Horseman Show favourite, The Truth by Neil Strauss The episode of Sherlock we discussed The book Everything Was Forever, Until It Was No More by Alexei Yurchak Alan Watts's book, The Wisdom of Insecurity Chris Ryan's books, Sex At Dawn, and Civilized To Death Steven Pinker's The Better Angels of Our Nature Challenge: Come up with a fantasy pitch for your business or yourself. How can you shape your message to play to people's fantasies... and how do they react when you do so? Be silly. Be kind. Be weird. Join us as we continue our 48 Laws of Power review, exploring Robert Greene’s provocative and compelling book, in which he lays bare the history, practice, psychology, and philosophies of power that ultimately shape all human relations. Often seen as a handbook for the ‘modern Machiavelli’, we take a closer look, beyond the hyperbole, and discuss how understanding and implementing these Laws can actually enrich your life personally, professionally and spiritually. Jon and Dre aim to get to the heart of each of the Laws, grapple with their sometimes disturbingly amoral nature, and discuss what the Laws mean in everyday life (often revealing their own experiences – good and bad – when they’ve either observed or transgressed them).
In this episode Mark interviews fitness cover model, author of 'Mindset with Muscle' and owner of Grenade Fit gym, Jamie Alderton. Jamie literally blew up on social media in 2016 with his no nonsense videos, his well documented 6 month transformation on youtube and pics of him looking shredded on Instagram. His journey however with fitness started at the age of 14 when he first discovered weight training and continued during his 6 year stint in the military which taught him the discipline to go on to complete and win in bodybuilding shows. Sponsored by Grenade Supplements Jamie shares his secrets that keep him in fantastic shape all year round despite being a Dad and juggling business and family. He also delves deep into mindset and goal setting and reveals why he thinks many busy over 30s men fail when it comes to the goals they are setting and how to put this right. We also go into more detail on his time spent in the military later in close protection security in which he served in Iraq and Baghdad. And of course no podcast would be complete without delving into the guests current training and nutrition. This podcast has it all, grab yourself a coffee, sit back and relax and enjoy all 1 hour 24 mins. Keep Truckin Coach Tregs www.30plusmensfitnessplan.com
