Alright, Brave Table fam, this is a super FUN episode. How can we use play to nurture trust, strengthen ourselves physically and mentally, and connect deeper with others? One answer is AcroYoga, and I'm so excited to have with me for this conversation the Co-Founder of the AcroYoga movement and author of Move, Connect, Play: The Art and Science of AcroYoga — the amazing Jason Nemer! Jason's work was featured in Tim Ferriss' New York Times bestselling book, Tools of Titans. He's also coached big-time names like Sergey Brin and Ashley Judd and has brought his training to team-building events for major companies like Google, FourSigmatic, and TrueX. Jason is a rockstar when it comes to turning sucky life moments into big, juicy dreams. Instead of succumbing to injuries he endured as a young acrobat, he found lessons and wisdom in his setbacks so he could fly forward (literally and figuratively!) into performing at the opening ceremony of the 1996 Olympics! It was here that Jason experienced a visceral sense of community for the first time and knew it would be his mission in life to cultivate the same experience for others. With his business partner Jenny Sauer-Klein, they would go on to birth AcroYoga into this world! You definitely want to tune in for Jason's story, loves. Plus soak up all the knowledge and profound insights he has to share. Here's a taste of what we talk about… - How to stop people-pleasing and prioritize what feels good to you - The value of being patient and slowing down - Strengthing your relationships through trust-building and play - Being unapologetic about your own self-care - How to start viewing selfishness in a positive light - How AcroYoga can help create more peace and harmony - Why it's so important to play in relationships - Testing your physical and mental limits and realizing you're much stronger than you think! Make sure you also check out… - Jason's website at https://www.jasonnemer.com/ where you can get your FREE copy of his 5-day Trust Challenge! - Grab a copy of his book on Amazon (also available at all major retailers) https://www.amazon.com/dp/1250774179?tag=macmillan-20 - Find him on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/jasonnemer - If you loved this episode, you'll also love the one I did with Aaron Alexander: Being in Alignment With Yourself https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/aaron-alexander-being-in-alignment-with-yourself/id1608226580?i=1000568986081 - And this one with Emily Hirsh: Taking Ownership of Life Circumstances by Reframing Your Reality To Make It Work for You https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/emily-hirsh-taking-ownership-of-life-circumstances/id1608226580?i=1000566487215 - And with my soul brother Erwin Valencia: The Power of Connection in Friendships & Long Lasting Relationships https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/erwin-valencia-the-power-of-connection-in/id1608226580?i=1000562182397 Thanks for listening, and I hope you loved this episode! Do you make time for play in your day? In this episode of the Align podcast, Jason Near and I chat about the benefits of acroyoga, playing, and connection for our health. While we tend to forget it, humans do need to experience play to feel their optimal selves. We also chat about the concept of the “perfect fit” when it comes to AcroYoga. Jason Nemer is a world-champion acrobat and the Co-Founder of AcroYoga. Jason's work was featured in New York Times Bestselling author Tim Ferriss' book, Tools of Titans. What we discuss: 03:20: What does it mean to have space in the body? 08:35: What are meridian lines? 18:04: What is AcroYoga? 21:19: What can people learn about their bodies in this process? 31:13: Does the concept of “perfect fit” exist? 43:13: What are the benefits of “play”? 48:50: Where does DougChiang fit in? 01:10:19: What does it mean to be extreme? So much in the world of spirituality may feel overly heavy or serious, but Jason Nemer believes there's other ways. A student of gymnastics and acrobatics (and a former Olympian), Jason Nemer is the co-founder of AcroYoga, a form of partner yoga with some of the playfulness you get in other acrobatics. Top 5 Things You'll Learn from This Episode: how he grew up being trained by top Russian and Bulgarian acrobatic masters, how the download for acro yoga came in we explore this quote from his new book: “AcroYoga not only has the power to change the body you're in, it also has the power to change the direction your life is going” keeping the integrity of acro yoga in-check, even as it has spread to the world some honest, vulnerable shares of his experiences in spiritual entrepreneurship He also discusses the restoring ceremonial power of tea (and we talk about comparing tea cabinets!). Make sure to join us in our closing practice: a special breath and mantra sequence passed onto Jason from a master teacher of his. Find more from me on IG at @IAMALYSONCHARLES or alysoncharles.com. In this episode, Anne Muhlethaler, host of Out of the Clouds, interviews consultant and experience design specialist Jenny Sauer-Klein. Jenny is passionate about how we get together as groups and how we learn, and she regularly consults for organisations like Google, Airbnb, Dropbox and the Haas School of Business. She is a wonderful facilitator who has spent her life creating lasting experiences for a myriad of different audiences and is a frequent presenter at international conferences and has been featured in The New York Times, Forbes, Fast Company, and Inc., as well as Tim Ferriss' book “Tools of Titans”.In this conversation, the native New Yorker shares with Anne her personal journey, how she went from Broadway actress to yoga teacher, which led her to therapeutic acrobatics and then on to launching AcroYoga with co-founder Jason Nemer. Jenny talks about how she stepped away from this previous career despite having scaled AcroYoga to an international brand, community and organisation with millions of practitioners, and how she came later to understand that the values that AcroYoga was based on -- trust, connection and playfulness -- were still her core values that would guide her towards her next steps.Jenny also explains her thoughts on how we gather and learn. The two go over some of the pillars of the experience design training program Jenny created (named Scaling Intimacy, which Anne took last year) and how you can help people make a crowd of 100 people feel like a gathering of 10. The three-day workshop caters to those wanting to develop interactive and engaging live events where collaborative learning and connection are privileged over content. Finally, the new mom talks about her experience of pregnancy during COVID, and distils the essence of the TED talk she gave (while 8 months pregnant) in January 2021 on the 3 Keys to Virtual Connection. If you are into leading engaging events or want to create meaningful experiences and inspire your communities with a sense of purpose and connection, this is the episode for you. Yes! We made it to 100! This podcast has been a labor of love for the last 3 years. I've had the immense pleasure to chat with some of the most accomplished yoga teachers, wellness experts, and spiritual teachers in the west so they can share their work and best-kept secrets with you. Some were genuinely excited to come on, others I had to slightly harass and I've reached out to many more who never even made it on. I want to take a moment to say thank you to all our guests so far, for giving freely their time, sharing their expertise, and being so open and generous with the process… For today's episode, we are celebrating, by first, doing a recap of the episodes that were the most listened to in the last 3 years. We'll also go over the episode that you guys voted for to enter our celebration giveaway and I want to underline a couple of episodes that I think were underrated but that were special to me and that should have made it to the top of the chart in my opinion.100TH EPISODE GIVEAWAYIf you voted for your favorite episode, thank you so much! Our randomly selected winner for our 100th episode giveaway is Flo Dupuy from the US. Self-Care does not equal beauty practices and services. It's available to all. Its goal is to give you the tools and resources you need to have the impact you feel inspired to make.2- The most important way to practice self-care is to be in a deeper relationship with your nervous system to recognize when you are edging towards depletion, so you can put extra strategies in place before you are burned out. These strategies can include yoga, physical activities, breath, meditation, diet, sleep, and more.3- Boundaries are another way to practice self-care: recognizing what you can say yes to, sustainably, and learning to offer an honest no when it's not sustainable for you. Get in the habit of saying I'll get back to you, so you can truly feel into it.4- Organization is another tool that will help you manage your life, schedule, and energy input and output. It will show you a clear picture of where and how you need to create spaciousness in your life.5- Find the choices you have available to you within your current circumstances and make the choice that supports you to show up the best way you can.QUESTIONS SHE ANSWERED DURING THIS EPISODE:Self-Care is a buzzword. Why do you think we still need to have this conversation… to continue to talk about it?What is self-care for you?In contrast, what is promoted as self-care, that might not really be it?What are some examples of self-care practices that would be available to all?ABOUT OUR GUESTAfter teaching yoga for ten years, Mado met her fairy godmother business coach. Before you know it, this bowl is so full, we can't see who we are anymore. The process of getting back to the core of who you are is to start emptying the bowl. Some people need a trauma, others have a restlessness and go on a quest for answers, others receive invitations from mentors and teachers. 2- All you need is within you. You are not lacking anything. We have all the answers. We have an immense capacity to learn, we have innate intelligence and wisdom. That's why journaling can be so powerful. It's a tool to tap into the answers you have within. When you invite yourself to look at yourself, you have an opportunity to shift, adjust, and transform. There's no way to improve yourself if you're not paying attention to where you are. When journaling, create a space where you will be uninterrupted, you are not distracted, start with open-ended questions. Invite yourself to reflect on your day. start paying attention to how you navigated your day and what kind of impressions you left on others today, pay attention to your daily you. 3- When we hold on to pain and trauma we are actually creating inner turmoil in our being. When you carry pain you behave differently than when you release pain. That's why we need to pay attention to our behaviors and choices. They are the symptoms of the pain we are holding. Acknowledge an event that happened, understand it to reframe your relationship to it, find the lesson and see if you learned it, then open yourself to let it go. Letting it go will create more space in your being for love and joy. 4-The higher you raise your vibration, the higher you can get to a place of observing yourself and your experiences without getting into shame, blame, or anger. So you are not triggered by emotions. It's easier for emotions to move through you if you are holding a positive energy field to deal with it. You have to be ready energetically before you can deal with it emotionally. To elevate your vibration, check in with your heart and your gut, pause, breathe deeply, open yourself and release stress and tension. When you feel light, your vibration is higher, you might smile more.5- Joy is your soul talking to you. Make room in your day for things that you enjoy and that make you smile. Get into the habit of finding ways to be joyful. It's a huge part of truly being who we are.QUESTIONS SHE ANSWERED DURING THIS EPISODE:Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your spiritual awakening journey? How did it change you?How do we enter our journey of self-discovery including the recognition of our spiritual self? How do we create a journaling container to be able to go deep in our reflections?Do we need to let go of judgment to truly start emotional healing? How does it look/feel to raise your vibration? How can we know if we are in a lower vs higher vibrational state? What is the concept of all you need is within you?If we do have limiting beliefs that get into our way, how do we start to get rid of them, or at least challenge them?ABOUT OUR GUESTDawn James became a Conscious Living teacher, after experiencing a spiritual phenomenon called Samadhi. So are the gemstones. We, as humans can entrain our energy with the ones around us. The determination of the healing aspect of each stone has come from intuition and experimentation. And these findings have been validated through different cultures over time.2- For empaths, it's important to clear any new stones and to clear them every time you use them or wear them. In all cases though, trust yourself with what you need and follow their intuition on it.3- Sage, sound healing, moonlight, and saltwater are all good ways to clear stones.4- When picking a stone, take a few deep breaths, hold the stone, notice what it's "saying" to you, how do you feel, if it aligns with what you're looking for or in need of.5- As a practice, you can clear the stones, hold them, use affirmations with them, meditate with them, wear them on you, use them in home decor, on an altar, and in beauty routines. You can also place them in plants. Create a relationship with a stone. Add them to any healing or personal practices.QUESTIONS HE ANSWERED DURING THIS EPISODE:What is the difference between gemstones and crystals? What makes certain stones healing? So Athleta has generously offered to give a $100 gift card for our giveaway.MY 5 BIGGEST TAKEAWAYS FROM THIS EPISODE1- You don't need to know everything. You just need to be a few steps ahead of your students. Don't think your teaching to yourself or other teachers, remember that most of your student just need self-awareness, to get into the present moment, to relax, to quiet down their minds. Things that are a given for you, where you are in your journey are new to a lot of other people. Get in a value-giving mindset. Be there to give. It will take some of the pressure off.2- Saying you're nervous can be helpful. It takes away the power behind the uncomfortable emotion. That way, you don't have to fake anything. It might help you connect on an authentic level with your students. You can also try a technique called image streaming.3- Don't speak about things you haven't emotionally processed properly yet.4- You need to also distinguish between a real mistake that holds consequences and something consequence less like a slip of the tongue. When you do such a mistake, you can point it out, laugh it off and keep going. Oftentimes, other people didn't even notice. When it's something really big, you might need to stop, officially correct what you said, and potentially apologize.5- You can't 100% trust your own heightened judgment of what is happening in real-time. A way to prevent making too many mistakes or getting too much in your head about the perceived mistake you're making is to stay anchored in the present.QUESTIONS HE ANSWERED DURING THIS EPISODE:What is public speaking and why is it something we should care about as yoga teachers even if it's not really covered in TT?How do we become less self-conscious? Get rid of self-doubt or our unconscious patterns that get in the way?How do we embody authority or power, presence, and aliveness? What do you think about announcing to your class that you are nervous? What can we do when we forget what we were saying or make a mistake to keep our composure? How can we use our own yoga practice to set our internal presence in a way that reflects an external presence of calm and leadership?ABOUT OUR GUESTSylvain Hache aka Sly is an ex-chronic stutterer that morphed into an award-winning, international-touring musician who has been interviewed on live TV & Radio in multiple countries, in 2 languages. He has been coaching and training people since the age of 16 and now helps you ‘'End-Stage Fright & Master Public Speaking, Anywhere From a Zoom Call to Carnegie Hall'' using Rockstar Presence Principles he distilled from over 500 shows in 35 cities and 5 countries on 2 continents. His website: www.RockstarPresenceSecrets.com''The Imposter Syndrome Crusher Course''Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/5a5fdec3a4d96aa520f89227. This week I chat with Jason Nemer about his upcoming book release; Move, Connect, Play; The Art and Science of AcroYoga. In addition to chatting about AcroYoga we discuss some of the noble elements of acro that we can apply to our lives to flourish as humans and to build up our communities. This conversion was one of my favorites because of my personal interests in acrobatics and the power of healing through human connection and safe touch. Jason is the founder of AcroYoga.Org, a author, a Yogi, a Bodyworker, and an amazing human who lives the principle of Move, Connect, Play. The year 2020 brought a lot of challenges that brought distance in the practice of acro and body work. However, though dedication and embracing community it is returning with new workshops, retreats, and this fantastic new book. Episode 185: Jason Nemer is the co-founder of AcroYoga. He has been blessed to have many great teachers on his path. His family was always very supportive of his many passions. His younger brother brought him into gymnastics and from there he found acrobats playing at the gym and was hooked on both. During his teenage years he trained with some of the top Russian and Bulgarian acrobatic masters. Competing among the best acrobats in the world inspired his practice and taught him about humility. In 1991, after 4 years of dedicated practice at the age of 16, Jason represented the US at the World Championships of Sports Acrobatics in Beijing. In 1996, he performed acrobatics in the Opening Ceremonies at the Olympic games. Yoga came to him in his last semester of university in 2001. After that first class there was no looking back. Connection to the breath and the lifestyle philosophy of yoga filled him with so much joy and new ideas of how to bring his past passions into a new form. Currently he travels to teach, study and bring communities together. He believes this practice can be used as a tool to heal and connect people in a playful dance that can promote global peace.
Jason Nemer is the co-founder of AcroYoga and has spent the past decade on the road spreading the practice around the world. Today, we are joined by a very special guest, and someone who, without knowing it, has dramatically improved my own life in the last half a year. His name is Jason Nemer, and he is the co-founder of and driving force behind the rapidly growing sport of AcroYoga. Haven't heard of it? Well… Acro Yoga is a partner acrobatic practice that combines elements of gymnastics, yoga, and thai massage to create an incredibly enjoyable and powerful experience. Far beyond just the physical exercise and fitness element, my own experiences with Acro Yoga have been deeply healing and uplifting emotionally and spiritually - for reasons that we'll get into in the episode. Today, Jason travels the world sharing this incredible practice with people everywhere. He's been featured on The Tim Ferriss Show, Forbes, and more… and today, we're very honored to have him here. In this episode, we talk about… well, obviously, Acro Yoga… but much much more. We talk about what the practice is, and the surprising ways it will impact your life. We talk about trust and emotional health. We talk about how to start a global movement. We talk about learning… and much, much more. Personally, I think this was one of our best episodes ever - up there with our award-winning episode with David Heinemeier Hansson - but maybe it's just the huge amount of admiration and gratitude I have for Jason and his work. Don't know.
My guest on this episode of the podcast is Jason Nemer, co-founder of AcroYoga. Jason is an incredible character, who travels the world with next to nothing. He introduced me to my latest obsession -- AcroYoga. Along with Gymnastic Strength Training, I've been doing AcroYoga -- and I think about doing it all the time. AcroYoga is closer to partner acrobatics: Cirque du Soleil routine meets sensual-but-not-sexual contact. Even if you have no interest in doing AcroYoga yourself, there are many takeaways and recommendations in this episode that can benefit your life. And for those of you that are interested, we even do a couple of video demos, which can be found here. But don't feel like you need to step away from the purely audio experience of this podcast to follow along. Incidentally, the video was recorded at Creative Live, my favorite place to learn online. I've taken hundreds of courses there, but the one I'll recommend is Six Months to Six Figures by Peter Voogd. Enjoy the show! Because you can get services previously limited to the ultra-wealthy and only pay pennies on the dollar for them, and it's all through smarter software instead of retail locations and bloated sales teams. Check out wealthfront.com/tim, take their risk assessment quiz, which only takes 2-5 minutes, and they'll show you for free exactly the portfolio they'd put you in. If you want to just take their advice and do it yourself, you can. I will be talking with Jason Nemer, co-found of AcroYoga, one of my own personal favorite activities. AcroYoga blends the wisdom of yoga, the dynamic power of acrobatics, and the loving kindness of healing arts. These three lineages form the foundation of a practice that cultivates trust, playfulness, and community. Jenny Sauer-Klein and Jason Nemer co-founded the practice in 2003, which has since touched the lives of hundreds of thousands of people world-wide.
