Send me a text message, if you have enjoyed this weeks episode, I would love to hear from you! Hey Hey,It's been a while since my last episode. In fact, I haven't published an episode of Just For Today since early November '24 when life became overwhelming, and I had to step back indefinitely. In this raw and vulnerable update, I share what's been happening behind the scenes – the heartbreak, the emotional roller-coaster, and the days when simply keeping my head above water has been a struggle.I recorded this a couple of weeks ago and waited for my intuition to tell me when to hit publish. Today felt like that day. My hope is that by opening up about my journey, it might help or validate someone who's also struggling, reminding them that they are not alone or losing their mind.At this point, I'd normally say ‘Enjoy,' but today, I'll simply say... Speak soon.❤️ Steph xxIf this conversation resonates with you, please share it with someone who could also benefit from these insights. Hey Hey!In this weeks episode of Just For Today, I, Steph Grainger, therapeutic mentor, delve into the often-misunderstood concept of toxic positivity. We've all heard the mantras: stay positive, keep smiling, and look on the bright side. But what happens when this relentless pursuit of positivity becomes a mask for genuine human emotion?Join me as I explore the dangerous edge where positivity tips into toxicity, dismissing the full spectrum of our feelings. I'll discuss a recent encounter with a client who believed that positive thinking was the only acceptable approach to life's challenges. Together, we'll unpack the notion that encouraging a constant state of happiness can actually lead to the suppression of 'negative' emotions, creating a cycle of self-blame and shame.Through this episode, titled "The danger of Toxic Positivity," we'll confront the reality that genuine positivity does not involve ignoring the difficult days but embracing them as part of our human experience. Emotions are our messengers, and to deny them is to deny ourselves the opportunity for true healing and growth.I'll share personal insights and strategies for recognising and processing these emotions, emphasising the importance of working through feelings rather than wearing them as a badge of honour. And for those of you who might be on the receiving end of toxic positivity or unknowingly dispensing it, this conversation aims to foster understanding and authentic connections.Just for today, let's commit to being present in our lives, to truly listen to what our emotions are trying to tell us, and to support each other through life's ups and downs without judgment. If you're enjoying the podcast, please share it with someone who might benefit from our talks. Hey Hey!On this week's episode of Just For Today, join me, Steph Grainger, as we venture into the often misunderstood waters of our emotional tides and the role hormones play in them. In an episode I've fittingly titled "Let's Stop Blaming Our Hormones for Our Feelings," I take a stand against the age-old narrative that women's moods are at the mercy of their hormonal cycles. As I navigate the perimenopausal seas myself, I share my personal reflections on the amplified emotions that come with the ebbs and flows of our monthly cycles. But here's the thing – while our hormones may turn up the volume on our feelings, they are not the puppet masters of our reactions. It's time to debunk the myth that women are held hostage by their biology and to embrace the power of self-awareness.I delve into the importance of tracking our emotional triggers throughout the month, not just during the premenstrual phase. By understanding the root of our intensified feelings, we can address underlying issues such as the need for appreciation or the fear of rejection, rather than dismissing them as hormonal whims. This episode is an empowering call to action for all women to honour their emotions as messengers, to engage in self-reflection, and to communicate their needs effectively. It's about reclaiming our narratives and rewriting the script on how we perceive and talk about women's emotional health. For those seeking to deepen their connection with themselves and to navigate life with a clearer understanding of their emotional landscape, this conversation is a beacon of clarity and empowerment. And for anyone interested in my "Steph in Your Pocket" program for personalised support, all the details can be found here.So just for today, let's commit to being present in our lives, to truly listen to our bodies and minds, and to appreciate the now. It Can Only Get Better From Here. Mental health problems can have a wide range of causes. It's likely that for many people there is a complicated combination of factors – although different people may be more deeply affected by certain things than others. For example, the following factors could potentially result in a period of poor mental health: - childhood abuse, trauma, or neglect - social isolation or loneliness - experiencing discrimination and stigma, including racism - social disadvantage, poverty or debt - bereavement (losing someone close to you) - severe or long-term stress - having a long-term physical health condition - unemployment or losing your job - homelessness or poor housing - being a long-term carer for someone - drug and alcohol misuse - domestic violence, bullying or other abuse as an adult - significant trauma as an adult, such as military combat, being involved in a serious incident in which you feared for your life, or being the victim of a violent crime - physical causes – for example, a head injury or a neurological condition such as epilepsy can have an impact on your behavior and mood. (It's important to rule out potential physical causes before seeking further treatment for a mental health problem). --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/saunaie/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/saunaie/support

The party has to end sometime It all starts on New Year's Eve. A night that has to be a success, whatever the cost. For Joni and her friends, it'll be a party that promises all the high stakes and glamour of any other, but by sunrise they'll be dealing with something darker than the usual post-party comedown. Not that they let this stand in their way. For this is their year to revel in all that the playground of London has to offer: sneaking into places they shouldn't, breaking every rule, falling in love with the wrong people. All the while avoiding one undeniable truth: it's not if the party ends, it's how. JUST FOR TODAY is a bittersweet evocation of the end of innocence, and an exhilarating celebration of having nothing to lose - until suddenly, you do.

Recover Your Soul: A Spiritual Path to a Happy and Healthy Life
The Al-Anon principles have been a foundation of my Soul Recovery. In this episode I walk through Al-Anon's 'Just For Today' quotes. Each of these simple messages remind us that just for today we can make different choices in how we relate to those around us, and take better care of ourselves. This is my take on the quotes from my experiences and the Soul Recovery Journey. The episode finishes with an original song "Calling For Me" which is inspired by my own Soul Recovery. For more about Al-Anon visit the website - https://al-anon.org/ there are meeting in person and virtually all over the world.
