On this episode of the Club + Resort Talks podcast, Editor-in-Chief Rob Thomas speaks with Monique “Mo” Gesualdi, PGA and LPGA Director of Instruction at St. John's Golf & Country Club in St. Augustine, Fla. Coach Mo was recently awarded the 2024 Troon Coach of the Year. She talks about her journey to becoming a golf coach and the health challenges she had to overcome in her 20s. Coach Mo emphasizes the importance of a holistic coaching approach that considers the physical, mental, emotional and nutritional aspects of a player. As a former high-level junior golfer herself, she believes she can relate to her students and guide them through the challenges they face. She also talks about her podcast, The Coach Mo Podcast, which features interviews with people from the golf industry. Coach Mo concludes the interview by expressing her excitement about the future of golf, with more girls and women getting involved in the sport. Rob and Senior Editor Phil Keren also discussed Phil's just-concluded trip to Cragun's Resort and Cragun's Legacy Courses in Brainerd, Minn. The 84-year-old destination offers two golf courses — the Lehman 18 and the Dutch 27 — and a Par 3 course, as well as opportunities to enjoy fishing, kayaking, boating and other water sports, as well as land pursuits such as tennis, pickleball, beach volleyball, biking and hiking. Phil and a group of golf writers visited Cragun's and accompanied groups that played both courses. Each course was designed by the Lehman Design Group, headed by former World No.1 PGA Tour player Tom Lehman, a Minnesota native. The Dutch 27 has a pair of 9-hole layouts (Blue and White) that can be played today, and a third 9 (Red) that is expected to open for play in May 2025. The resort has a staff of more than 300 employees, offers 300 rooms, suites, cabins and homes to rent, and 62,000 sq. ft. of multi-function conference and exhibit space. On an annual basis, Cragun's records 100,000 guest nights, which equates to 40,000 unique guests. The resort hosts about 200 corporate or association groups and anywhere from 25 to 40 weddings each year. Phil will have a story about Cragun's for the September issue of Club + Resort Business. Phil and Rob also discussed projects happening at resorts in Arizona and California. The Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Gainey Ranch is nearing the completion of its $115 million renovation and will soon be rebranded as the Grand Hyatt Scottsdale Resort. This project, expected to conclude in the coming weeks, will mark the debut of the first Grand Hyatt hotel in Arizona. The resort will feature six new restaurants, all developed in partnership with celebrity chef Richard Blais. These will include a modern Italian chophouse, a Southwestern grill, and two different poolside concepts. In addition to the new dining options, the Grand Hyatt Scottsdale Resort will unveil its fully renovated meeting space in October. This includes the 14,000-sq.-ft. Vaquero Ballroom and 52,000 sq. ft. of existing indoor and outdoor function space. By January 2025, the resort will open its expanded Arizona Ballroom, nearly tripling its size to 25,000 sq. ft., aiming to become a premier venue for meetings and events in the region. Silverado Resort in Napa, Calif. will once again host the PGA Tour's Napa tournament, now renamed the Procore Championship Sept. 12-15. During the last couple of years, a lot of infrastructure improvement has happened at the site, including the introduction of 130 new golf carts, a $1.5 million investment in turf maintenance equipment, the conversion of 9.8 miles of asphalt cart paths into concrete paths, and the expansion of the driving range by 9,000 sq. ft.

COACH DAR Golf is just as much a mental game as it is a physical one. That's what today's guest, Darleen Santore, believes. Coach Dar is a Board-Certified Occupational Therapist, performance coach, sought-after speaker, and the author of The Art of Bouncing Back. In this kickoff episode in our wellness series, listen in as Coach Dar unpacks the nine steps to building resilience, diving into such principles as embracing the suck and reframing negative thoughts. Coach Dar also talks about the power of feedback in refining our performance and realigning our goals, harnessing this feedback to make real-time adjustments during a match, and how to tap into our why power to fuel our motivation. Plus, we touch on the importance of creating our “bounceback environment” by making an effort to stay around positive people. Finally, we explore the impact of emotional intelligence. Coach Dar shares how self-awareness can influence our game, discussing the need to cultivate grit by “staying in the hard long enough”, and the power of being willing to “turn the page” and take a chance on bettering your game tomorrow. AFTERSHOW Alex Anderson, Katharine LiMandri, and I give our thoughts on my recent conversation with Coach Dar on the nine principles to building your resilience as a golfer. We discuss… ● The importance of remembering why we do what we do ● Why play with people who aren't as good as you ● Why a bad shot doesn't mean you have a bad swing ● Cultivating grit ● What we're doing to improve our golf game Connect with our Guests: Coach Dar: Instagram | Website Alex Andersen: Instagram | BabesGolf Katharine LiMandri: Instagram For more information on our 2024 retreats and tournaments, please visit: CompeteConfidenceGolf.com Subscribe to our FREE Female Golfer Facebook Group: First T Crew [Behind the Scenes of Women's Golf] Get in touch! Hello again Fellow Golfists,I had a great day out at the first event of the 22 - 23 PGA Tour season at the 2022 Fortinet Championship at Silverado Resort and Spa. I had a great time meeting and chatting with fellow golfists that had really cool stories to share about what golf means to them. I especially enjoyed sitting next to a lovely couple, who shared their pork jerky with me and who also happened to be from Gilroy California. They were the parents of Kyle Harrigan who is the Golf Course Superintendent at the North Course at the Silverado Resort and Spa. They were fun to sit with and chat with about all of the afternoon groups that were coming through the 11th tee. I then also got to sit next to a lovely couple who were from San Mateo and who also got to witness a hole in one on the 11th hole at the North Course at Silverado. I look forward to sharing my tidbits and little interviews that I collected today in the near future on The Knackered Golfist Podcast. Thanks for Listening to The Knackered Golfist Podcast!! Oh, by the way, The Knackered Golfist Podcast is now available on ListenApp.

I had the pleasure and privilege of being the start and finish line race announcer at the inaugural WineShine Half Marathon in Napa Valley this past weekend — and bonus! The day before the race, I got to host a live show at the Silverado Resort and Spa with superstar guests Alysia Montaño and Stephanie Howe. We talked a lot about the highs that come with racing (like Stephanie's Western States win, and the time Alysia ran the 800m in the U.S. National Championships at eight months pregnant), and we talk about the tough stuff. The ruts. The losses. The disappointments. Alysia and Stephanie are proof that this sport can make your dreams come true and break your heart a few times along the way. Jinghuan Liu Tervalon is a mother and a runner from Southern California. She started running 14 years ago to deal with heartache and to do something for herself before she eventually found a community that she connected with and started training in earnest for races. She's also a writer whose work has been published in Runner's World and Women's Running. In fact, last year she won a creative grant through the Brooks RunFulness Project to create a multimedia book project that showcases runners from the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. This week on the podcast I had an awesome conversation with Ben Rosario, head coach of HOKA Northern Arizona Elite, and Matt Fitzgerald, co-founder of 80/20 Endurance and prolific author of endurance sports titles, about their new book, Run Like A Pro (Even If You're Slow), which was recently published. This was more of a Coaches Corner discussion than my typical interview-style show and in it we discussed what amateur runners can learn from their professional counterparts while covering topics like training volume, recovery, nutrition, having a champion's mindset, and a lot more. Bold Sports Episode 97 A week Off due to Vacation Steelers- Cam Hayward, Kendrell Bell, Ray Seals Pirates- Joe Beimel NFL- Simeon Rice. NHL- Jeremy Roenick Riverhounds- the Hounds went to Nashville Saturday night and came away with a 0-0 draw. But with that draw, the Hounds locked up a Playoff spot. now, the Hounds had Memphis 901 tonight on the road and that ended ?? . the hounds are now needing their next 6 matches for collecting points for seeding purposes and chances at a Home Playoff Game. PGA Tour— in the Young 19-20 season, this is the Third Tournament coming upon. And the only way to watch is on Golf Network really. The Greenbrier , Sanderson Farms open and this weekend is the Safeway Open at Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa Valley . The players and times haven’t been released yet, but don’t expect a ton of big names. Pirates- thank god that there is only 6 games left and we can stop watching the train wreck that is the Bucs.. Complete disgusting news about Felipe Vazquez. Should have traded when had the chance but that is hind-site for ya. I believe that the whole damn organization needs blown up, but you have to start at the top, but I don’t see that happening . MLB- Yanks, Twins, Stroes, Indians, WC, with Rays and A’s Battling for the second WC. For the AL, As for the NL, Braves, Cards, and Dodgers, with Brewers and Cubs WC but the Nets still in the hunt. The Bucs can play spoiler maybe. Penguins- the Pens are 1-3 in the Preseason so far with 2 games left, one with the Wings and One with the Sabers both at home. Then the regular season starts October 3 rd with the Sabers at home. Coach Sully praises this years team and is very optimistic. We will do some more digging and have a better breakdown next week. NCAA Football- Pitt- Played PSU 2 Saturdays ago, Put up one hell of a game, the Panthers came to play. One bad coaching call of a Field Goal that was Missed on the goal line with 5 mins to play. Then Pitt got the ball back and moved downfield with 2 mins left to play and stalled out with 3 plays to the end zone from the 25 . Then this past Saturday , Pitt went up big on UCF in the first, and continuing the second . Then gave up 31 unanswered points in second half. Pitt, then had to come back with their final drive and called the “Pitt Special “ trick play with Pickett receiving the TD after a handoff reverse. The week the Blue Hens of Delaware come to Heinz Field. PSU- Took the win over Pitt two weeks ago and then had a buy week this past weekend and get ready to travel to College Park to take on the Terps of Maryland. WVU- After a big loss to Mizzu, Wvu had a big win over NC State, and this past weekend a nice win over Kansas . This week the Eers have a Buy and then Texas Longhorns headed into Morgantown. ND- after a huge win over New Mexico, Nd went to Athens and took on the Dawgs. The game was solid, and back n fourth with the Dawgs coming away with the win 23-17. The Irish have Virginia coming into South Bend this week. Top 25 NFL- AB played one game with the Pats, went the whole week of practice, then he gets cut on Friday. With him getting cut before Monday , his Bonus of 5 mill was due that he will not receive . Guess you shouldn’t send threatening texts and then leak them yourself to the media. Saquon Barkley is out 4-8 weeks with a High Ankle Sprain, Brees is out 6 weeks with a thumb, Nick Foles we touched on las show is out probably for the season , his back up Gardner Minshew is the toast of the town currently with his stash and cutoff Jorts. Michael Crabtree was released by Arizona and is now available to be picked up. Steelers- well, Big Ben is out for the season, first time in his career he had a season ending injury this early. He had surgery on his elbow, not Tommy John. The Seattle game when Ben was injured ended 28-26 with Mason Rudolf the one mounting the Comeback but falling short as the Defense breaking down. This past week the Steelers went to San Fran and the Defense did its job forcing 5 turnovers, but only transpired in 6 points as the Offense couldn’t get anything going. Then in the second half, the niners pulled ahead and the Steelers D let them march down the field as the D broke down, probably because they were on the field an awful lot, James Conners Fumble that let the Niners have the ball for the winning score. Minkah Fitzpatrick who we traded our first round pick next year for had a Pick, FF and 9 tackles. The trade made lots of people question life, but I think it will turn out for the better. Pitt Womens Volleyball ranked #4 in the nation and took a Home N Home from PSU.

Matt and Steve are talking about this week in sports updates, including: The Riverhounds have their last home regular season game with FC Cincinnati. The Riverhounds will finish in the top 4 in their group. With their season finish, the Riverhounds have earned a home playoff game. Will the Riverhounds finish third, or will they move into second for the playoffs. The Ryder Cup was pretty much one-sided after the day 2 morning session. Europe rolled to a 17.5-10.5 victory over all. Europe entered the final day, which was all singles matches, up 10-6. The PGA 2017-2018 season is over. The PGA 2018-2019 season starts with the Safeway Open in Napa Valley at the Silverado Resort and Spa. Not too many big names playing in the tournaments in the near future. Steve wouldn't be surprised if a few big names snuck into the early PGA 2018-2019 tournaments. We had 2 playoff games for the MLB division for the first time ever. First off, the Cubs/Brewers was exciting. The Cubs/Rockies was crazy. There were lots of chances that the Cubs just didn't capitalize on. The A’s/Yankees was closer than it looked. For the NL it looks like Braves/Dodgers, Brewers/Rockies. AL will be Cleveland/Houston and Yankees/Sox. Tom Willson hits 20 games. Scott Hartnell retires. The Capitols had a big win!! Penguins season is officially started! Pitt took a hell of a loss to UCF. Pitt comes back home to take on Syracuse. Syracuse saw a recent loss to Clemson. Kansas is headed into Morgantown to take on WVU. PSU is coming off a big loss to OSU which will screw the rest of their season. PSU is headed to Lansing to take on Michigan State. Notre Dame had a helluva game and a real good win over Stanford. The Irish are headed to Blacksburg to take on Virginia Tech. Steelers. At the end of the podcast, Kyle discusses the upcoming Safeway Open, taking place the weekend of October 4-7, 2018 at Silverado Resort in Napa, California. Through Cern’s work, he got to play golf at Silverado Resort in beautiful Napa, Ca. Cern shares his experience with playing some fancy golf, high-quality snacks at each hole, how he played and even some talk about the upcoming annual golf tournament. Upon entry to the golf course, Cern spots a Maybach car which comes in at a cool 250k to 400k for the model that is a few years old. Once Cern’s saw this and the golf bag checker he knew he would be in for a treat, but also disappoint on the greens. Before swinging the clubs Cern got a gift card to spend at some fancy golf clothes so he could be looking his best during the golf outing. He also got a goodie bag to stuff full of snacks, drinks and other goodies to take home. Tee time was 12:30pm and Cern had a few hours to do some palm pressing before. This was a best ball scramble tourney, and the gents that Cern played with were scratch golfers and play every weekend. Cern had his own personal win by only losing one ball during the 18 holes of golf in Napa. Cern almost got FORE'D by some women who were playing that have never played golf before. After the long day of golf, Cern treated himself to a Bombay Sapphire Gin and Tonic w/ lime. It was tasty and refreshing. Cern gives a rundown of all the bomb food they were serving at each hold. Tiger Woods gave Bay Area golf fans a few days notice that he wound be missing the Safeway Open at Silverado Resort, citing that his game was not where he wanted it to be for his PGA Tour return. Host Kyle and his longtime golf buddy Kev talk about what it means for Tiger to delay his PGA Tour comeback, and how golf fans should feel about his decision to postpone his comeback until he feels confident in his game. In addition, a recent report from The Golf Channel's Matt Ginella informs us that a new 18-hole course could be in play for the already spectacular Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. Kev and Kyle reflect on their past experience at 'The Sheep Ranch', and whether building a regulation golf course in it's place is good or bad for golf. This episode is proudly presented by GolfGuide.net and Golf Guide Magazine.
After a year-plus hiatus, the greatest player of our generation, Tiger Woods, is planning on returning to the PGA Tour at next month's Safeway Open at Silverado Resort in Napa. The hosts dive into what they're most excited about regarding Tiger's return, share their thoughts on the golf course at Silverado, and ponder what questions they'll ask Tiger and Phil Mickelson when they set foot in the tournament's media tent. Along the way, the hosts also talk FedEx Cup and why they couldn't care less about the PGA Tour's playoff system, Patrick Reed's family issues, why competing with the NFL on Sunday evenings is a fruitless pursuit, and why the NFL sucks in 2016. This episode, as always, is presented by GOLFGUIDE.NET. Visit the Golf Guide Store and save 20-70% on greens fees at courses throughout California, Nevada and Oregon.
