The Friends of the Bill Brinton Murray Hill Library sponsored a special Lit Chat Interview with local poet Michelle Lizet Flores. Michelle spoke with fellow poet and Lit Chat alum, Jessica Q. Stark, about her latest book of poetry.  Michelle Lizet Flores is a graduate of the FSU and NYU creative writing programs. She currently works as a Creative Writing Instructor at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts and co-hosts the What's in a Verse Poetry Open Mic at Rain Dogs. Publications include The NCTE English Journal, Salt Hill Journal, and The Talon Review. A finalist for the Juan Felipe Herrera Award for Poetry, she wrote the chapbooks Cuentos from the Swamp and Memoria, and the picture book, Carlito the Bat Learns to Trick or Treat. Her short fiction is in the anthology, Places We Build in the Universe. Invasive Species, her first full-length collection of poetry, is currently available from Finishing Line Press. Interviewer Jessica Q. Stark is the author of Buffalo Girl (BOA Editions, 2023), a finalist for the 2023 Maya Angelou Book Award, Savage Pageant (Birds, LLC, 2020), and four poetry chapbooks, including INNANET (The Offending Adam, 2021). Traditionally they are for girls, but he wants to have one, and is challenging the norm. We talk about our own experiences with Quince's and which one of us had one? Quinceañero is also breaking ground being a Musical, and yes Justin did write the lyrics to the songs in the movie. He decided to make this a musical because he wanted this film to bring some happiness and joy to society right now, with all we have gone thru the past year and half. The film is happy and bright but it does touch a very deep topic of acceptance, acceptance in our families with our loved ones and in society. Justin share's with us the inspiration behind the movie and how they want the audience to take away acceptance from this film. Quinceañero is part debuted at LaLiff Loss Angeles Latino International Film Festival. Stefanie Lizet is an artist, she is also a young woman making a name for herself in the male dominated world of lowriders and motorcycles, establishing herself as an incredible pinstriper in the custom paint world. Stefanie first learned the craft as an apprentice to the legendary painter, Danny D of Danny D Studios. She was also one of two women of 50 artists invited to exhibit pinstriping and lowrider-inspired art at the Petersen Automotive Museum for "The High Art of Riding Low: Ranflas, Corazón E Inspiración," an exhibit that celebrated lowriding art, iconography and Chicano pride. Stafanie's contribution was part of a collection of everyday objects painted in the lowrider-style, Stefanie painted a toilet seat.

Aujourd'hui, on reçoit Sabrina Debusquat, auteure de "J'arrête la pilule" aux éditions Les Liens qui Libèrent. Son enquête publiée début septembre lève le voile sur les effets secondaires de la pilule contraceptive : baisse de libido, effet cancérigène sur le long terme, et même embolie pulmonaire. Elle nous explique qu'aujourd'hui encore, de nombreuses femmes ne sont pas écoutées quand elles interrogent le corps médical à propos de leur contraception.  "La pilule n'a pas été créée ni financée par des gens qui pensaient au bien-être des femmes." En deuxième partie d'émission, Cécile Lizet et Lucie Berson de l'association Astérya nous présentent leur Guide Pour Agir. Cette association, qui s'applique à soutenir diverses initiatives citoyennes, a compilé plus de 1000 manières de s'engager au quotidien.
