Welcome to Mysteries to Die For.I am TG Wolff and am here with Jack, my piano player and producer. This is a podcast where we combine storytelling with original music to put you in the heart of a mystery. All stories are structured to challenge you to beat the detective to the solution. These are arrangements, which means instead of word-for-word readings, you get a performance meant to be heard. Jack and I perform these live, front to back, no breaks, no fakes, no retakes. For Season 6, Jack and I have again decided to go ad-free. I do this because I love mysteries, Jack does it because he loves me. Jack maybe a starving college student but it's because… We do ask you support the writers of our show. This week it's KM Rockwood. Check her out on her website and social, buy and read her stories, help other readers find her. Make writing for Mysteries to Die For the best decision she could made. In your review, tell her Tina and Jack said ‘Hi'. This is Season 6, Things that Go Jack in the Night. This season contains truly imaginative mysteries around one of the most common words in the English language. From the brandy distilled from hard cider known as applejack to that nefarious one-eyed jack, to the animals, vegetables, fruits, tools, weapons, and slang, the way the word “jack” is used in the English language is truly unique, inventive, and too numerous for us to count. And yes, it is also the name of my piano player and producer. For Episode 1, Pepper Jack Cheese is the featured jack. This is A Package of Pepper Jack Cheese by KM RockwoodABOUT KM Rockwoodkmrockwood.comKM Rockwood draws on a varied background for stories, among them working as a laborer in a steel fabrication plant, operating glass melters and related equipment in a fiberglass manufacturing facility, and supervising an inmate work crew in a large medium security state prison. These jobs, as well as work as a special education teacher in an alternative high school and a GED teacher in county detention facilities, provide most of the background for novels and short stories.ABOUT Pepper Jack CheeseFrom the website for Shisler's Cheese House in Orrville, Ohio – 24/7 hotline https://cheesehouse.com/Pepper Jack Cheese is a cow's milk cheese that blends the creamy, buttery flavor of Monterey Jack cheese with the intensity of spicy peppers. Jalapeños, serrano peppers, and habañero peppers are all used to create heat. As the cheese ages, the peppery flavor intensifies. Some older pepper jacks can taste quite zesty, but generally, the cheese is only aged for a few months. It will take on a creamy color and semi-firm textures.Monterey Jack Cheese was made by the Mexican Franciscan friars of Monterey, California, in the 19th century. Then David Jack, a California businessman, decided that the market for the cheese could be developed. He produced the mild, white cheese that we now call Monterey Jack. Later, producers began to add small pieces of spicy peppers to the curds of their Jack cheese, creating Pepper Jack Cheese.

Have you ever heard the phrase “we saved the best for last?” Today we finish up our series on Jesus and the government and I believe this is thee best Biblical text on the topic. This section in our series is like the grand finale. What would you say are some finales that have been grand? Crowder had a good one at the fair-Circ de soli on vacation involved something death defying probably with fire, but the most legendary one I know happens every July 4… at the Orrville Fire Dept Fireworks show! Today's text reads like the OFD 4th of July fireworks grand finale. This is our last message in this series and it's the one the really booms. No one ever went to the Orrville fireworks and wondered if the fireworks were over. If you've been there, after the grand finale, the sky is white with smoke, your ears are ringing and you know you've just seen the best fireworks display in the Wayne co. maybe the state… maybe the country... Well after this sermon, I hope you will feel you have just experienced the best text in the Bible on how a Christian relates to the government. I hope your ears are ringing with the word of God, so that you can live without fear of government, and have a new understanding of who actually is the ultimate authority in our lives and how we can be in communion with him-while submitting to the government. Here's the point: Earthly government has a good purpose but is always under the authority of a bigger AND better God in heaven. As was explained last week-these verses were written in a time of intense persecution. What I find fascinating, is that in the last 2000 years Christians have faced, endured and lived thru almost constant persecution, all over the world often, from all sorts of bad governments! The Bible has been the consistent guide and inspiration to these persecuted people. They didn't read these verses and say “forget this-obviously this does NOT apply to us”-No Way! And this is why these verses remain even for us today! These texts still help Christians in Africa, Asia and the middle east where government are utterly hostile, to keep the faith and have bold witness. My hope is they will help us as well… open your Bibles to Romans 13:1… let the booming begin…

Love With(out) Boundaries How Do You Recognize a Christian? August 29, 2021 It was American advertising executive and author Lois Wyse who came up with a tagline for a small company in Orrville, Ohio, which made them famous across the country: “With a name like Smucker's, it has to be good.” And Smucker's has been a household name ever since. She's also credited with saying, “If I had known how wonderful it would be to have grandchildren, I would have had them first.” As many of you know, DeeDee and I have a 3-year-old granddaughter whom we adore. Being Avery's Pops and Grammy is pure joy. We love hanging out with her; reading books, watching movies, taking walks, dancing, singing, making dinner…just about everything is more fun with Aves. As our only grandchild, she has our undivided attention and affection. And she definitely has us wrapped around her little finger! I mean…we've already bought her her first car! Our love for Avery is deep; but as much as we want to hear her laugh and see her happy, we still have boundaries in place that ensure our relationship with her is healthy. She doesn't get candy for breakfast, we don't let her run rampant in the streets without supervision, sharp knives are a no-no! Beyond that, well let's just say Pops is the tops in her world right now. This week, in our series How Do You Recognize a Christian, we're taking a look at the short book of 2 John. Though only 13 verses long, this letter from the Apostle John holds important truth for us. In just a few verses, John tells us how to keep our love for others within safe boundaries – by building into our lives two solid guardrails that protect us from going off course: truth and discernment. As pastor Chuck Swindoll writes, “Love flows with life-giving power, but without boundaries, it can do great harm. In the name of love, we can go too far.” Throughout his first letter, John challenged us over and over to love one another. Now in his second letter, he helps us better understand what love should look like.

Hattie M. Felder was born in Orrville in Dallas County, Alabama in 1928. When she was 21 years old, Felder moved to Birmingham, where she could live with extended family while completing school and supporting a child. She attended beauty school at night and worked in the kitchen at a nursing home during the day. Even then, in the early 1950s, Felder was a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), which the State of Alabama shut down in 1956. When former members and leaders of the NAACP formed the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights, Felder joined it as well. Many adults in the Black community did not openly participate in Movement activities because they feared loss of their or their spouse's jobs. Felder, however, was self-employed as a beautician, so she did not hesitate to go to jail on Easter Sunday 1963. Listen to Hattie Felder tell what it was like to be involved in the NAACP in Alabama in the 1950s.

James Armstrong was born in Orrville, Dallas County, Alabama in 1923. After military service in Europe from 1943 to 1946, he returned to Alabama and worked in Selma and in Mobile, where he married. Since 1953, Armstrong has been self-employed as a barber in Birmingham. Armstrong was a founding member of the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights (ACMHR). Beginning in 1957, the entire Armstrong family took a lead in Birmingham's efforts to end desegregation when Armstrong registered his children to attend school at Graymont Elementary, an all-White public school. When the children were denied entry, Armstrong filed a lawsuit and a team of lawyers, including Arthur Shores and Constance Baker Motley, handled the case. Six years later, Armstrong's youngest children entered and desegregated Graymont Elementary School. Listen to Mr. Armstrong as he describes the day in September 1963 when his two youngest sons finally enrolled at Graymont Elementary.
